It was rare for him to find himself having to babysit his youngest brother, but here he was, hands grasping the younger boy's to make sure he didn't suddenly run off when they were still several blocks away from the park. Little Andy was bouncing with energy at the prospect of going to the park to play, and several times had to tug at Tony's arm to urge him to move faster.
Out of all his siblings, Andy was the one he felt the least closest to. He had been less than a year old when his mother got sick and he had to spend even longer times outside finding work. His other siblings took care of Andy at home while he was earning money through both legitimate means - and otherwise. And as he grew older, the pattern never changed. Sure, he played with all of his siblings when he was free or when he took care of them as a whole, but he'd never gotten to know Andy as well as the others.
This was, he supposed, the perfect opportunity to bond a little.
As soon as they stepped foot inside the familiar grounds of the park, Tony released his brother and watched as he rushed towards a playground like a raging bull. Chuckling, he followed at a slower pace, unworried as the young boy began to climb up the slide.
He made his way to a bench nearby and sat down, sighing as he took out a coin and began to flick it up into the air, catching it as it fell. If his estimations were correct, he had a couple of minutes before his brother's attention drifts off to look for some other source of entertainment.

[attr="class","salvatore"]Yaela had promised to take her daughter for a walk and then some ice cream, but could not remember how or why they decided to visit the park. Now, Yaela did not have anything against parks per se, but places like these had a habit of inviting the wrong...crowd. Such as bums, stray dogs, and...children. God, she hated being surrounded by other people's kids. Sticky little hands and fingers...
"Oh, Merrill." The child grinned up at her, face miraculously clean of the frozen treat. "We aren't staying long, so don't get too comfortable."
The child pouted but quickly caved. "I'm just glad to spend it with such a beautiful mother." She winked and gestured with one hand.
Yaela held back the urge to snort. "Flattery will get you nowhere, sweetie."
"Who cares! I wanna go on the slide."
The girl was off before her mother could complain. She really could not see the appeal in -- what exactly was it that people did here? Nature walks she could understand, but...
Feeling somewhat disgruntled, Yaela chose the seat closest to the slide: a bench half occupied by a young, blond man. She was an alchemist, a healer, but skeptical of finding anything of use in a playground. "Hmm..."
There was a sort if scuffle on the playground equipment, with Merrill as the main offender. She was hassling a boy around her age, insisting that she go first...despite him being there before her. "Merrill! Play nice or we're going home." As if she needed any excuse.
"But mooooom." The girl cut herself short after a glare from Yaela.
Hoping that the kids would behave themselves, Yaela nodded in the direction of the man. "Kids, huh? Which one is yours?

An older red haired woman and her little girl approached them while Andy was still playing. Tony stopped tossing his coin in the air, pocketing it and straightening up as she sat down on the bench beside him. As always there was this need to behave and look as innocent as possible whenever he was around older, authoritative figures.
Before he could start a friendly conversation with her, he heard the sound of a commotion at the slide. His brother was arguing with the same red haired girl from before as they both stood at the top.
While the woman beside him shouted to side with Andy, he placed a hand to his mouth as he shouted, "Let the lady go first Andy! You'll get your turn right afterwards, trust me. You'll look cooler that way." His father had always instilled this need to be polite and courteous to women no matter their station. He had picked it up easily from his childhood, and he hoped Andy would as well.
The young boy was pouting and crossing his arms in serious displeasure, but he stepped back and allowed the girl to go first. Tony grinned at him and threw a thumbs up of approval before turning his gaze to his new bench partner.
"I'm sure you can figure out by that exchange who I'm looking after. But he's not really mine. He's my little brother." He held out a hand to the other woman. "Anthony Skies. And that over there is Andrew."
[attr="class","azotar"][googlefont="Iceland:400"]Die reinste Freude ist die Schadenfreude
[attr="class","salvatore"]For a moment there, Yaela worried she'd have to do something about Merrill herself. Despite her warning, she and the boy had not backed down yet. Until the blond man spoke up to address the boy she assumed to be his son. Merrill beamed at the man for taking her side, whereas Yaela smiled in amusement. He was right about that last part; a man who could keep his cool and back out when needed was attractive. One who insisted on butting heads was...well, it reminded her a little too much of her ex-husband.
A grinning Merrill edged around the petty youth and made her way down the slide, laughter and red hair trailing behind her. Soon the boy would follow, and they would repeat the process of taking turns until they grew bored and moved on to something more respectable, like the swings.
"Not yours? You could've fooled me. You're so good with him." The sign of a good brother, perhaps? She took his hand, gave it a firm squeeze like her father taught her, shook and released. "And I'm Yaela. Yaela Fuchs. That's my little girl over there, Merrill." She motioned towards her cascade of red hair. "It runs in the family.
"Gross, mom," the girl called out.
In her eyes, Yaela was flirting with the brother of the "enemy." Apparently, the kid was not as blind to her mother's coquettish behavior as she'd initially thought. She had a feeling that the girl was lurking around and oversaw her encounter with Valencia...which would explain some things. "I am not," she replied with false indignation.
She could feel the girl making faces of disgust when she turned back to the young man. "Must be interesting to have a sibling so young. I was an only child, myself." Couldn't begin to imagine it, either. She was spoiled and stuck to her father like glue. It was frustrating enough to share him with her mother, though tolerated it out of reason. "Merrill's the same." That, she had conflicting feelings about. Being an only child got lonesome, but she was not fond of children and could barely keep up with her own. Merrill was a handful at times.

Tony sighed, slouching his shoulders a bit as he watched the two kids start playing together. He knew a thing or two about what usually happened when children fought over something. Becoming the mediator was always something he tried to avoid.
Hearing Merrill make such a comment after the two adults introduced themselves to each other made Tony glance in the little girl's direction in confusion. So far his conversation with the other woman had been polite and plain, so he didn't understand what would make the girl be so disgusted by it.
Shrugging off the strange behavior and treating it as a kid thing, he turned his gaze back to the woman who called herself Yaela. "I'm the oldest of five," he explained. "It was definitely interesting. And chaotic." Though he had to grow up faster than the rest, he was still their brother and often enjoyed teasing them and playing pranks on them. They were always the first victims of his experimental ideas.
"I can't imagine being an only child. It must be very quiet in the house." Their house was always alive with noise and life. It was wild and messy, but it was homey and filled with love and laughter. He wouldn't change a thing, even after everything that happened to their family.
When Merrill demanded something from his younger brother, he glanced back at the two kids and watched as Andy - remembering his brother's words - grumbled as he followed after the girl towards the swing.
"I'll only do it if you promise to let me take a turn after!"
"Sounds like they're already becoming fast friends," he commented with a chuckle as he looked back at Yaela. "Your daughter's quite the beautiful, strong-minded girl isn't she? Probably takes after you."
[attr="class","azotar"][googlefont="Iceland:400"]Die reinste Freude ist die Schadenfreude
[attr="class","salvatore"]...Oldest out of five? Good lord. Yaela's eyes went big at that little tidbit of information. Her parents did well for themselves, and were technically one of those families with old money and some status. But even then, she doubted their household could maintain a house of seven. Oh, and could you just imagine how rowdy things could be? On top of her other hang ups, just no. "It was quiet, yes, but I wasn't terribly lonely. I had friends."
She became popular some time after puberty, particularly with the boys. It wasn't something she liked to brag about, considering how quick some of them were to turn on her or spread rumors and pillow talk. "It's rough on Merrill, I can tell. I try my best to keep her entertained and make her feel loved, but... Yaela worried the girl might act out or gain a similar reputation when she was older. Even though she made it a point to shield her daughter from the rough and tumble of daily life, Merrill was a very sharp kid. Just how many times had she secretly watched Yaela out and on the prowl?
She smirked at how the children were playing, Merrill taking the lead and Andy begrudgingly trailing behind her. A girl like that would not struggle to get what she wanted out of life, which, in Merrill's case, she hoped was filled with ambition for a better life and status. Chasing boys (and girls) was all fun and games, until you found yourself tied down.
"I certainly hope so. Merrill could always do with more friends. And Andy seems like a nice enough young lad." There were many boys who would refuse or even try to wrap their little hands around that mass of hair. Yaela had had her fair share of confronting their parents.
"So, Anthony…have anyone special in your life?" They were already on the topic of family, so.

He smiled and nodded in agreement. At least she had friends she could hang out with, if there was no other sibling at home who could play with her. While he didn't have many friends himself, he could imagine how lonely it would be if you had no siblings and no friends at all. There would be no one to talk to or to lean on when you need help.
Andy was pushing Merrill on the swings, and like most children, his earlier grumblings was gone and he was more focused on pushing to make sure the other went as high up as she could go. Watching the two of them reminded Tony of how worth it his sacrifices had been. To give up his own childhood so that his siblings could have theirs, getting to see them enjoy life without the pressures of reality weighing down on them, provided him with strength and the resolution that his choices weren't wrong.
"They might have had a rocky start, but I'm sure they'll get along well. Andy comes here often so as long as you do as well, they'll bump into each other a lot." Before Yaela could inquire, he added. "I don't actually get to hang out with my siblings often. I just happened to have some free time today, so I decided to spend it with Andy." If Yaela and Merrill hadn't arrived, he would've been the one pushing Andy on the swings, or running around after him in the playground. In this case, he was grateful for their arrival.
When Yaela asked about his love life, Tony smiled while shaking his head. "Nah, I don't have one yet. I just haven't found the right girl I guess." He shrugged. "I'll meet her someday."
[attr="class","azotar"][googlefont="Iceland:400"]Die reinste Freude ist die Schadenfreude
[attr="class","salvatore"]One of the things Yaela did not look forward to as a parent was... dating. Or the dreaded teen years, but that was easier to handle, at the very least. In some ways, she could understand why her parents were so exasperated or hated anyone she introduced them to. Even the nice guys were suspect. Anyone who wanted to be in a romantic relationship with their daughter was suspect. And god, could she relate to that so much right now. Doubly so, as Merrill's father was one of those "badboys".
And if anyone treated her daughter the way he treated her... and she caught wind of it...
Yaela smiled at the two children and their current innocence. It was almost a shame they'd have to grow up at some point.
She turned her smile back to Anthony, amused and a little surprised that he was still out on the market. He didn't strike her as the sort to be without a girl or two on each arm. But then, you never could judge a book by its cover. "Oh, really, now? You'd think a handsome man who cared for his siblings would draw all the girls," she said with a light laugh. "But I can understand that." She held up her barren ring finger, devoid of any telltale sign of recent usage.
"I myself am unattached." Unlike her teen years, she had to be careful with her choice in partners. "I feel like marrying young was a mistake sometimes, but then I wouldn't have Merrill." Who she liked to call her little blessing and a curse -- never out loud or to her face, of course. "Do you have a type, at least? Or an ideal match?" This conversation was veering off the usual small talk she engaged in, but could produce some minor entertainment.

At her compliment of him, Tony grinned and shrugged. "I know right? Hard to believe I'm still single." There was a slight flush to his cheeks as he looked away from her briefly.
"Eh. Who knows how the female mind works." Remembering who he was talking to, he glanced back at Yaela hurriedly and threw his hands up defensively. "I mean - not that you're like them. You're very nice. Not that I'm trying anything with you." He shut himself up immediately, eagerly moving on to the next topic of their conversation - which turned out to be a bit more sombre than the first one.
"I'm sorry to hear that. Must be rough raising a kid by yourself." He bent forward as he clasped his hands together on his lap, smiling as he watched over Andy once more. "But yeah, there's always a blessing in disguise. Even if we couldn't see it immediately." Thoughts went through his mind of his own parents, who had made the mistake of having five kids when they couldn't support them all. A part of him had always wondered if they resented them for driving the family to poverty and starvation. Worse, his mother got sick after giving birth to Andy. It was a rough few years, that was for sure.
Alas, the conversation went back to him soon after. At Yaela's question, he furrowed his brows. "My type? I suppose...I like women who are adventurous. Fun and exciting, willing to try new things out. Someone who would laugh at my jokes no matter how cheesy or corny it is." He blushed at that point, quickly hiding it with a grin. "And of course they have to be as drop-dead gorgeous as I am!"
"Do you..." He paused, then shrugged to himself and boldly went on. "Do you ever think of finding another partner again?"
