ranks
as soon as a witch joins a coven, they are issued a rank. this rank increases as the witch's affinity increases and they bond more with their familiar. increases in rank result not only in items and skills, but also an expansion in the mana pool of the witch and their familiar, which allows the witch to have greater and stronger applications of their unique witch skill.
ICLY, witches obtain new ranks from fledgling to novice from their coven, whereas novices, adepts, and acolytes take exams to rank up.
[break][break]
please note that each rank up have different requirements.[break][break]
001.
fledgling any human being with even a remote interest in witchcraft is a fledgling by most standards. unfortunately, if you've just received your license, this is where you stand as well. no one has heard of your name, and even in the coven the most of what you'll be getting are condescending smiles and encouraging pats on the back. good luck getting anyone but your familiar to listen to what you have to say.[break][break]
go deliver letters, eavesdrop, work part-time, help an old man with his plumbing, or put up decorations. no way anyone will trust you more than that.[break][break]
rank up at 10 AP and a ic post count of 15.[break][break][break]
002.
apprentice now you're a bonafide witch. the coven members acknowledge you as a little rookie. you're free to practice witchcraft on your own, and may even start dabbling in creating magical items to sell. at the very least, people recognize you as an apprentice of so-and-so coven, and you're free to take on missions that seem at least a little more interesting. unlikely anyone will be giving you the pass to go outside the limits of the watchtowers, though, unless you're being supervised by the coven you belong to.
[break][break]
go rescue that cat, steal a purse, organize an event, patrol a safe area, or maybe apprehend a criminal if you're feeling up to it. have faith that each action is now starting to garner you more respect.
[break][break]
rank up at 25 AP with a post count of 30, and at least 1 non-event thread with 7 posts by your character OR 1 quest[break][break][break]
003.
novice you're a regular at the coven, you've done your family proud. it's noted with regret when you're missing from coven meetings, you've already taken up a new affinity to make sure your wits stay about you. you have enough experience to be laughing at fledglings and taking on apprentices. you probably have a handful of scrolls at your disposal and magic is now an integral part of who you are. your familiar is strong enough to be a force in its own right. most people are more than happy with obtaining this rank. but the question is, are you?[break][break]
go take on a criminal, aid in the rescue mission in the wilderness, explore, help out with a raid, teach an apprentice, and enjoy the most varied jobs in all of sundial and a good amount of popularity to boot.
[break][break]
rank up at 50 AP, a post count of 50, 1 quest, and the adept test[break][break][break]
004.
adept you've decided that magic is more than integral and there's no turning back. working together, you and your familiar can take down an enemy group easily. separated, you are both forces that inspire fear. coven meetings without you seem strange, and you've probably earned a reputation. You are now eligible to represent your coven leader in council meetings.
[break][break]
go destroy a criminal gang, hunt monsters, conduct a raid, and enjoy your personal freedom as a well-respected witch.
[break][break]
you will need 75 AP, 100 posts, and 1 non-event quest, and complete the acolyte's test (one staff modded IC, non-DE mission that may or may not contribute to site plot...) to rank up again.[break][break] [break]
005.
acolyte you're starting to reach the pinnacle of your chosen fields, a widely regarded expert in the magic you specialise in. you're a respected individual who is recognized wherever you go, a household name and a pride of your coven. when you speak, people listen, when you suggest something, it's probably going to be done. You're one of the faces of your coven, and may now start a coven of your own if you so wish.
[break][break]
go oversee a mission, purify a monster-filled area, destroy a settlement, meet your fanclub-- wait....
[break][break]
to rank up, have 100 AP, 200 posts, 1 non-event quest, and complete the master’s test (one staff modded IC, DE mission that may or may not contribute to site plot...)[break][break][break]
006.
master things aren't as much of a challenge as they once were. your presence on the field alone can decide if the battle is won or lost. your familiar can comfortably deal with a few novices on its own, and together you are respected duo capable of being both saviors and destroyers.
[break][break]
go save an island, level a mountain, oversee a raid, tear apart a criminal empire, destroy a city, and enjoy being the amoung the best of the best.
[break][break]
promotion to high priest/ess will be decided by the council/staff.[break][break]
[attr="class","stafftemptitle"]
HIGH PRIESTS AND HIGH PRIESTESSES
the venerated witches, the ones that run the show, and influence salem with their steps. generally older, experienced witches often no less than
twenty-six years of age. they are extremely well respected, and practically own an area which they influence greatly, and have a mass of followers dedicated to them. they are usually all guild masters, or ex-guild masters, and are allowed as guests to sit and participate in council meetings. though rogue-witches are technically incapable of being formally made a high priest or priestess as it is an honorary title, the public (and sometimes even the council) bestow the title verbally to dangerous witches who have through fear, earned the right to be one of the most dangerous witches in salem.
[break][break]
to obtain this rank, your character must be a master of their craft, and the member playing the character must message staff with reasons as to why their character should receive this promotion (or proclamation).
