The only family she's known were the ones she chose, and she wouldn't have it any other way. Street kids, urchins, call them what you want- they were there for her and she was there for them.
[break][break]
It was easy to garner sympathy when she was ten, and begging was enough to get by. But as she grew older the coin slowed down and people sneered at her in the streets- so instead of asking for it, she decided to take it. Panhandling gave way to pickpocketing, and she found she had a talent for it, her fingers light and nimble. And though it started out as a means of survival, Adaline was starting to enjoy the thrill of it.
[break][break]
But there were always more mouths to feed, other hungry children besides herself, and pickpocketing wasn't as sustainable on her own. She started breaking and entering, pilfering food and medicine and clothing directly, passing the goods out to her fellow urchins when she returned. Things didn't always go smoothly- nights where she returned with nothing, nights where she got caught; one nasty encounter earned her a knife slash across her right eye. While she wouldn't call it a living, it was enough to get her and the people she cared about by. That was all she wanted.
[break][break]
After everything, it was only natural that Silvertongue would be the coven to offer her a place. Adaline didn't hesitate- it was an opportunity, and you didn't just turn those down- especially when she figured no other covens would have her.
[break][break]
She still goes back for them, especially the younger ones. Teaches them skills, reads to them, helps them out whenever she can. They are her brothers and sisters, her closest family. Nothing will convince her to leave them behind.
