born into this world as meek as a mouse, fuel velez remained that way for all his life. he was lucky enough to be with a small family who loved him - one big brother, one father, and one mother. he'd always been a momma's boy while his brother spent more time with dad. he learned how to cook, then how to clean (and his brother did too, complaining about it), then how to take care of the garden. he became often bullied in early school life for any reason his peers could possibly find - kids were like that, weren't they? while most his age learned how to grow thick skin and build a barrier, to not take childish remarks to heart...[break][break]
he was different. he changed to fit those around him, seeing it as his only purpose. from the beginning, he thought he lived primarily for others. so first it was because his hair was too curly, and he begged his mom to start straightening it. then it was because his voice was annoying, so he stopped speaking, then it was because he was too quiet. nothing he did pleased the people around him...except, family. his family was the one who loved him no matter what he did, as a family should be.[break][break]
it was for that reason he stopped trying to make friends, or get the attention of those around him. he already had a loving home, and he was never a selfish boy - he wouldn't ask for anything more than that. fuel remained silent. magic did not interest him until his mother began to urge him to join a coven. they'd always been a poor family, but she promised to do all she could to help him prepare for joining the knights. she saw potential in him. so he pushed his fear deep down inside and promised to work on his magic - for mother. his big brother was out in the world, rarely visiting home. his father had fallen into the trap of working too much to make ends meet, despite being loving whenever he could be around.[break][break]
and so when mother passed away...[break][break]
it was either this, or lie down and accept that he had no use anymore. but he knew that's not what his mother would've wanted. she was always a spunky woman, wanted him to fight for himself, wanted him to be strong. so the only thing he could do was become a fledgling and hope for a new purpose to swing his way. maybe, just maybe, he could find someone or something else to live for, if not his mother's lingering spirit. [break][break]
the only choice he had was to hold on.[break][break]
make it work, make it easy
make it clever, craft it into pieces
