within sundial's walls, miro's shoulder reaches a respectable height somewhere above ninos' knee, and his docile demeanor belies the startling speed with which he can run. outside, he is a considerably larger creature, with his shoulder standing level with his witch's. a mottled coat characterizes this creature, an asymmetric dappling of black and white; he appears to don no accessories, unless one counts a friendly canine smile.

TECHNIQUE - DARKNESS
the witch can now solidify and manipulate their own shadow, creating whip-like projections to attack the enemy. however the range and strength of these shadows depend on the strength of a witch, so fledglings might not be able to do much.

CAGE OF SHADOWS
TECHNIQUE - DARKNESS
the user uses the shadows around the victims(s) to create a cage that traps opponents within. the size and the durability of the cage depends on the skill of the witch - experienced users may be able to target people with great specificity, whereas fledglings are limited in their ability to manipulate the shadows. like all darkness techniques, this technique works best where there is plentiful shadows, and is more difficult to use when the light is strong.

provided they are under a cover of shadows and staying relatively still, the witch can be practically invisible to the naked eye if they so choose. they can probably get away with running a bit, but they ought to be careful of the light, and users of night vision, witch’s intuition, etc.

SHADOW TENDRILS
TECHNIQUE - DARKNESS
this technique allows the witch to split their shadow into tendrils that can act like tentacles to wrap around things and bring them to or away from the witch. the number of tendrils created and are able to be independently manipulated depends on the skill of the witch as well as the amount of shadows present. experienced witches may even be able to use their tentacles to bat away projectiles launched at them, though how effective such a defence may be depends on the force of the projectiles and the skill of the witch.

while this scroll was originally published by killian marjane as a sarcastic response to sylvia yanus declaring him a recipe thief in one of her books, this has become one of the modern alchemist’s favorite tools. using this scroll on any object will give the alchemist an instant insight on its ingredients, or used materials. the more experienced the alchemist, the more useful this scroll becomes as they will be able to extrapolate more things from the information supplied.

when ingested by the witch, it enhances their overall pain tolerance considerably, pushing themselves to perform feats otherwise thought of as unlikely. like with the rest, caution is advised when using this: while the witch may not feel the strain of pushing themselves that far, they are likely to feel its effects as soon as the elixir wears off. inexperienced witches typically injure themselves far more than experienced users who know where their limits are.

when ingested by a target, this causes severe disorientation, and is increasingly potent depending on amount ingested, and its brewer’s rank. over time, prolonged usage may lead to disorientating dreams or even memory loss. while advanced users are able to create a gaseous version that disperses upon shattering the vial and spreading mass confusion, beginners are unable to apply it in any other way other than ingestion, making its use rather situational.

Scroll - Transfiguration
If a witch so chooses to advance to the third scroll, they can learn how to transform themselves into a simple object no larger than themselves. Witches can copy and take on the appearance of another object - with experience, a witch may even be able to utilize an object’s magical or technological properties. Beginners, however, usually start with a physically similar version of an object. Staying too long as an object can have catastrophic consequences - the witch may become permanently stuck in their transformation. It is rare for that to happen though, as the witch can tell when they’re overstepping their boundaries - usually through pain or an uncomfortable sensation.

While shifted into this creature, the witch will be able to utilize the earth technique "Lift" on regular earth, metal, and crystal.

this scroll teaches the witch how to enchant a pair of mirrors to create a two-way communication device. the reflection of one mirror is shown on the surface of the other, and vice versa, allowing communication between them. the distance for which they are effective is determined by the strength of the witch who created them.

as the name suggests, this particular thread holds the power of healing within its delicate spool. the weaver can spin this thread into an object to be worn, helping to heal the wearer of diseases, moderate injuries, and ailments through skin contact. the effectiveness will rely on the capabilities of the weaver and their mana storage. the intent of the weaver is also crucial at this point as it is assumed that such items may be gifted or sold. the more intent there is to heal within the item (coinciding with the weaver's power), the more efficient. and naturally, vice versa.

coming back to sundial was never part of the plan, but here he is nonetheless. it's a rough landing, granted, and he falters at first, hit face-first with bad memories and an urge to flee. gradually, with the help of old and new friends alike, he begins to find his feet in the city, settling into old habits and hobbies, slowly easing his way into using his magic once more, finally culminating in his participation in the empyreal cup itself. he gets much further than anticipated.
