People come in flavours.[break]
Or so, that's what her grandmother always used to say. A ludicrous thought, but one that brought colour into the despair-stricken world she inhabited. Living in the Hovel, Sel was nothing more than one of the thousands of faceless denizens who inhabited its streets. Nevertheless, she was happy thanks to her grandmother. If Sel was to name her grandmother's flavour, it would have been the flavour of spicy hot chocolate, unabashedly bold yet full of gentle warmth. Perfect for a fiery woman whose confidence was only matched by her kindness. However, like all good things, Sel soon lost this precious taste. [break]

When her grandmother died, Sel was left to wander the streets alone. In due time, she slowly began to despise the world she lived in becoming nothing more than an empty shell of the smiling child she used to be. At that point, the only thing worse than the humiliating words, disgusted glares or malicious blows, was the daily excruciating hunger she would feel in her gut. It consumed her mind. Drove her insane to the point that she was willing to sift through the dregs and scraps of others for a single morsel to eat.
[break] Pride meant nothing to her.[break]
Eventually, Sel ventured into the city center and witnessed for the first time, the mounds of pristine food that was thrown away each day. Barely content to just eat her fill, Sel began to haul back anything she could find and started her own business reselling her 'wares,' to the same people who have previously thrown them out. To make them seem more palatable, she learnt how to cook and would steal spices from the nearby merchants. For a time, it worked, brilliantly as well. All it took was a little imagination, a little razzle-dazzle and something went from, your, 'Average roast chicken,' to 'The exotic poulet rôti of the west.' However, after an unfortunate run-in with a Helios Knight revealing her secret, people found out, wanted her dead and if it wasn't for some chef from the Sun Cafe interested in a bizarre child's story, things would have been a lot more short and a lot bloodier. A few lies that she was some unruly kitchen help, a promise to end her business, a glint of gold and before she knew it, Sel was smack-bang in the center of the Sun Cafe. To be honest, many of the cooks at the Sun Cafe practically raised Sel, teaching her not only how to cook but also how to fight (that is the way of the frying pan) and what it means to be compassionate. In return, Sel is extremely fond of the Sun Cafe and the members of the Joker's Den which often inhabit the Cafe. That being said, years of crazy assignments to gain rare ingredients on the whim of the head chef, crazy antics from the Sun Cafe's customers, and the kitchen's preferred method of school of hard knocks to teach Sel has only reaffirmed her general negative attitude to life. (Not like it wasn't low enough). [break]
