Florence and Jonas Mayflower first moved to Sundial around 20 years ago. The young couple already had their first child, and seemed to prefer the safety of the larger city in order to raise the family. Determining where exactly they came from (or anything else about their past) are treated with a casual resistance full of vague hints and lies. Mostly the latter. [break][break]
She grew up in a forested area that no longer exists. Instead of sticking around, she set off for a life full of adventure. That didn’t work out. So during her usual work, this strange guy showed up who eventually started to teach her how to properly use magic. Then they got married. [break][break]
Florence was the normal one who stayed at home and took care of everything. Made friends with the neighbors. Baked cookies. Jonas had joined Silvertongue and spent most of the time working. They spent time with the same people while barely interacting with each other. The money was good and no one complained. [break][break]
This may have carried on until the end of time, until a change started to happen. Namely, her oldest child began to develop their magical potential. Florence knew they would need someone better at spells than herself help out…but admitting her own weakness sort of inspired her to try again. To become a better witch. She couldn’t even remember what to call her affinity. How would she begin to explain if they wound up inheriting this trait? [break]
The old woman with the weird enchanting. It was hard to tell if she actually made friends among the Silvertongues, as she did not seem to enjoy being around them for several years. Being treated as equal to someone her child’s age certainly didn’t sit right with her, but it had to be done. Even a mercenary group wouldn’t send a fledgling into a dangerous situation, and the added contact with other witches did help her improve. Slowly. [break][break]
Joining either of the other two covers would not have worked out. Those people would be more interested in getting to know her and how useful she could be. Attempts to have her explain this magic that she barely understood herself. It just worked. For the time being, Florence felt content to leave it as a mystery. A secret worth guarding like her country of origin. Assassins aren’t supposed to reveal the tricks of their trade, so an assassin she would be. [break][break]
Her husband did not seem to approve. Although, with the kids out of the house and both of them working, it wasn’t as though they ever sat down and had a heartfelt discussion about it. He always went off on the important missions to other cities. She kept to herself and continued to get stronger. Maybe some day she could go on that adventure she always dreamed of. [break][break]
Why do you waste my time?
Is the answer, to the question on your mind

I’m sick of all my judges
They’re so scared of letting me shine
