August didn’t grow up with much money, but she didn’t complain. There wasn't much to complain about when one never knew of anything different. She found fulfillment through other channels, ones her classmates or neighbors lacked; a thought she kept reminding herself whenever she felt as if fate had given her a bad toss of the coin. “There is a bright side to everything” was the motto which kept her so cheery when she grew never getting new clothes until she outgrew her old ones. Her parents ran a local bakery that had been in the family for as long as anyone could remember. She helped them prepare fresh baked goods every morning before school and worked the register on the weekends. Their bakery sold fresh bread and pastries in the main store and also did custom orders and catering for clients. They never bothered to really advertise as word of mouth drew in enough customers to keep the place profitable. Her parents weren’t in the business to create anything than what they were passionate about, the smiles and compliments of people who ate their food and felt compelled to recommend the store to their friends. They didn't bring in the big bucks, but it was enough to get by. As their reputation grew, so did their business. Now, the family is in a much better place than it had been.

As a child, August had a boundless amount of hyperactivity that her parents decided to put into good use by teaching her baking and decorating techniques. Her positive attitude and cheery demeanor drew a lot of attention towards her in school. She was a friendly acquaintance of almost everyone, but didn’t have that many people that she considered to be her friends. Many of her peers found her to be okay in small doses but simply “too much” to be around for too long. Understanding of her faults, August never felt compelled to change. If she tried to be different, there would still be something about her that someone wouldn't like and that would defeat the purpose of changing who she was in the first place. Therefore, August is comfortably and firmly herself.
