The only daughter and eldest child of two young Jester’s Den witches, she was born quite literally with a silver spoon her her mouth. However, after the birth of her younger brother most attention that was previously given to her was focused entirely on him. Sibling rivalry was common between them as they vied for the affections of either parent, but that did not mean they held a hidden dislike for each other. Quite the opposite, really — Hanh and Ma Thi were two peas in a pod and inseparable even at a very young age. They lived a pleasant, upper–middle class life in the Nguyên estate. Their parents loved them, they had enough money to support both children and they wished for them both to become powerful mages on their own right. There was never a dull moment in the Nguyên household.
[break][break]
Yet when Ma Thi was five–years–old tragedy struck when a stray candle caught the entire manor in a fiery blaze that left nothing untouched. It burnt the house to the ground and took the lives of their parents and Hanh. Ma Thi personally does not have many memories of that horrible night, but she does know that she was taken under the care of the Sundial government and forced into foster care. Throughout her childhood she went through a plethora of “parents” she never truly cared for and they did not care for her much all the same. She was always given back up because she was said to be a very rude and disruptive child, breaking things and talking back often. The change was extremely hard for Ma Thi; she lost her little brother who she had vowed to protect, and her parents who swore to protect her. For fifteen years she went through the nation of Salem, hoping to be adopted and loved but too afraid to let someone care about her. She was terrified at the prospect of losing someone she cared for.
[break][break]
She just couldn’t take the heartbreak a second time.
[break][break]
Relief soon found her in the name of a retired Helios Knight who has always wanted children of her own but was unable to conceive. They both had a tumultuous start as a new family, but after a few months of leaving with her Ma Thi began to thaw the ice that was her heart and let the beautiful witch in as her step-mother. Her name was Ann Rothschild, blonde–haired and fair–eye’d, she was everything Ma Thi wanted in the mother she barely remembered: capable, elegant, courageous, and gorgeous. She learned everything she knows know from Ann, tips to talk to your familiar with less difficulty, she learned the basics of Summoning and how to put on makeup. Ma Thi was already said to be a pretty girl, but Ann always said mascara and a bit of blush never hurt.
[break][break]
And she was very much correct by that statement; attention from boys her age was quite common but wearing makeup enhanced her natural beauty and brought attention to certain features that would have previously gone unnoticed. Her lips seemed fuller with red lipstick, certain eye shadow brought out her baby blue eyes, concealer made her pale skin seem smoother to the touch — her new life made her into a new, happier person and boys trampled themeselves to get her hand.
[break][break]
Not that she ever paid too much attention to the hounds barking and drooling at her feet.
[break][break]
Although Ann instilled within her a secret love for romance, theatre, and aesthetic, Ma Thi was solely focused on becoming a strong witch just as her biological parents would have wished her to be. Ann had always wanted Ma Thi to join the Helios Knights ( the woman was quite the loyalist, much to Ma Thi’s chagrin ) she never pressured her adopted daughter to make rash decisions, something the young girl had always appreciated and loved about the aging woman.
[break][break]
With her heritage in mind, Ma Thi joins the coven of Jester’s den because she knew her parents would have loved that. She knew, maybe somewhere up above, they were smiling thousand-watt smiles.
[break][break]
She knew that with them Hanh would be cheering her on, too. She joins for him, her parents, and for her future. Though she misses her family terribly she is determined to not let the past affect her bright future. One day she will inherit the Rothschild family’s accumulated wealth and retire in the lap of luxury where she belongs.
[break][break]
Until then, she will survive.
