One day, the leader of the band of children (and coincedentally, Idris' worse tormentor) vanished. He went to bed, and the next morning, he wasn't there any more. A short search produced no results. Not that it mattered. Parentless children were never missed. Idris made a lot of friends after that.

Or maybe he just doesn't care to.
age five
All he had of his parents was a small box of memorabilia. In a group of foundlings, sentimental objects were worth nothing. He tossed the whole thing in a river. Except for a little trinket with six sharp points that dug into his skin and left little red marks behind. He didn't know why he kept it, but throwing it away seemed wrong somehow.[break][break]
age six
The other kids in the orphanage didn't interest him, but they didn't give him the option of leaving them alone. The smallest of the group, he was all too easily bullied; but not crushed. He learned about them. Their interests, their passions, their vulnerabilities.[break][break]

age nine
He couldn't stay at the orphanage forever. There were other things calling to him. He didn't know what, but he knew they were out there. One day, Idris vanishes from the orphanage. Idris wasn't ready for the world outside.[break][break]
age eleven
But he survived.[break][break]
age twelve
And he found a family. Not that he cared about that kind of thing. The witch just happened to have a symbol similar to his. A little trinket with six sharp points that dug into his skin and left little red marks behind. Interested, Idris had followed the witch. They made him promise a lot of things. He promised, because if he did, they would help him learn.age nineteen
Idris learned a lot of things. He learned to control his affinity. He learned to control his elements. But he didn't learn how to keep his promises.[break][break]
Or maybe he just doesn't care to.
