this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.
First mission. Maybe he should have picked something a little easier? Sybil was slightly concerned about what may happen, after all, what if the storm underground was indeed life threatening? Though the request did ensure that it wasn't (hopefully). So here he was, standing outside the shop of the alchemist, waiting for the apprentice to turn up. Sybil had never been to this part of Sundial before, it was... Different to what he was used to. People from his social class never came here, and if they needed some supplies from one of these shops then they'd get it delivered or picked up by someone else. It was kind of nice for him to experience something his brothers or cousins would never do, it made him feel normal (and kind of relaxed).
Sybil peered through the dusty window, looking inside the gloomy shop and seeing all kinds of concoctions lined up on shelves, each one a different colour and some were even glowing! Potion making did always interest him, the recipes seemed simple enough most of the time but it was the putting together that he sucked at (last time he tried to make a potion it didn't go well, then again, anything magical he does is rubbish). "Bobo said the store would be closed, but shouldn't she be here by now?" Sybil scratched his head, looking around the bustling street in search of the apprentice and another witch who would be joining him on this errand. Before they started the mission, they first needed the elixir and the location of Bobo's secret laboratory...

When Evanora had decided to take on this mission, it hadn't been on a whim.
There are still bruises and cuts that mar her skin, but that doesn't deter her. She wants to be stronger, and nobody will stop her. Nike may have bested her, but soon she'll be kneeling before her, and there's only one way to do it. Missions and training, repeat. She'd taken on the most difficult quest she'd found on the board.
Calming the storm in the sewers; it doesn't sound that hard. If it is, she'll deal with whatever's thrown at her. Another witch is supposed to partake with her, and she reckons that it can't be that hard, especially with another apprentice accompanying them.
Evanora arrives at the alchemist's shop--it seems as if her partner's already there. She smiles and waves, lips quirked into a small grin. The shop looks closed--hopefully the apprentice will show up soon.
"Hi! My name's Evanora. Are you here for the sewer mission...?"
Sybil was slowly becoming uncomfortable standing out here in a busy street, that once 'hey this isn't so bad attitude' quickly vanished. Now here he was trying to keep his cool by leaning against the brick wall and picking at his nails. "Just keep your head down and nobody will talk to y- Oh!" he jumped, startled at the sudden introduction from another witch. "Y- Yes! The sewer mission. Uh, Sybil's my name!" he'd reply awkwardly, a dumbstruck grin across his face as he did his best to come across as friendly,"I guess we just need to wait for Bobo. I don't know where she is, surely she should have been here by now? Right?"
Where on earth was she? From the sounds of things, she seemed like she wanted this sorted out as soon as possible, so why wasn't she here on time? All the worst possibilities started going through his mind, what if the storm gets out of hand before she gets here? Or maybe the alchemist in charge would show up and turn them into frogs!
"HeeELLOooOOO!"
A sudden screaming could be heard from the down the street, running up was another young woman in usual witch clothing - black pointy hat and dark green cloak, her shoes were mustard yellow and her blue hair was all knotted. Sybil guessed this was Bobo. She came running up the hill with a miniature cauldron swinging from her left hand, popping and fizzing with each step she took, "I'M BOBO ARE YOU THE PEOPLE HERE TO HELP ME!? YES THANK GOD YOUR HERE! I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT I WAS GOING TO DO HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Sybil would lean over to Evanora slightly and raise his hand up to his mouth, whispering in her ear, "She's crazy." He'd quickly return to a standing position with his arms flailing in the air to pretend to be just as excited as Bobo was, "AAAHH NICE TO MEET YOU TOO!"
The couple began screaming excitedly at each other for the next moment or two (or three). Eventually she stopped, chucking the (dangerous looking) cauldron carelessly on the floor and stretched her arms up into the air, "Sorry I'm late dumplin's! Got in a bit of a pickle with some guy's hedgehog," she scoffed, "Apparently I 'can't just take it's spines for potions without asking first'. Pfft, grumpy pumpkins."
She trailed off halfway and started staring up into the distance, utterly entranced by the sky. It was like she completely disconnected from what was happening. "Uh? Hello?" Sybil waved a hand in front of her face. Nothing. "Bobo?"
BANG!
The cauldron exploded with a miniature cloud of blue smoke, making Sybil instantly start coughing and was also useful in getting Bobo's attention again, "Oh yeah! The elixir!" She hopped down to her knees, shaking the pot and spitting in it. Sybil had never seen an alchemist work on potions before, but he had a feeling this certainly wasn't the right way. "So, you just gotta... Bleugh, sticky. You just gotta throw this mixture at the storms source and it should make it stop. I think. That's what the book said anyway." she glanced up at the two, an evil smirk across their face, "HA! Kidding! I didn't read no book, I just kinda guessed it. I'm that good ya see!"
"Oh my god."Sybil groaned, fearing for his life at this stage as he put his face in his hands. Bobo would grab a small glass flask from his bag and dip it inside the cauldron, taking a portion of the strange liquid before popping a cork top on it, "DONE!"

When she calls out to him, he suddenly jumps. Evanora reels back a little, and he introduces himself as Sybil. Had she known that he was this flighty, she would've been a little less loud. He sounds like a friendly enough person, though, and Evanora shrugs. She's fine with how this is going, so far.
"Hello Sybil, it's nice to meet you." She says, giving him an easy smile. She looks around--it seems like the alchemist isn't quite here yet. She shrugs, hoping that she wouldn't take too long. "Bobo, that's her name right? She--"
She's suddenly cut off by a loud greeting, her voice too loud for the current situation. Evanora hunches her shoulders, flinching from the sudden interruption. A young witch suddenly appears next to them. She looks exactly like a stereotypical witch; black pointy hat, mustard yellow shows, and a green cloak to boot. Such colors and clothing seemed...unusual for this time and age. Despite this, however, she seems well intentioned.
"N-nice to meet you." She stutters, laughing, nodding and agreeing when Sybil says that she's crazy. He plays along, flailing his arms in faux excitement. Evanora can't help but laugh at such antics, watching patiently as they screamed at each other for a couple minutes.
Eventually Bobo places the cauldron on the floor, her face looking into the distance. Sybil waves a worried hand in front of her, and Evanora lilts her head to the side, wondering whether if this woman was really sane or not.
She jumps as a loud bang fills her ears, the cauldron exploding in a cloud of blue smoke. Attention caught, Bobo turns back to the cauldron and begins to work on the elixir. Evanora stares at the mix of random ingredients, briefly wondering whether it would actually work or not. But she supposes that Bobo's the alchemist, not her.
However, it's not exactly comforting to hear the alchemist say that she guessed it. It's most certainty a recipe for disaster...literally.
"Merlin," Evanora murmurs under her breath, loud enough for Sybil to hear if he listened carefully. She watches as Bobo takes the glass flask and dips it into the mixture, green liquid popping and crackling before them. She pops a cork on top and presents it to them with a loud done!.
Evanora reluctantly takes it into her hands, swirling the liquid inside. It doesn't look right...but a mission is a mission. She took it; it's only natural that she finishes it. She looks at Sybil with a mixed expression; a lip quirked into a grin, hints of nervousness in the mix.
"Well, I guess we should get going?" She says, holding it up to her face. She looks in the direction of the sewer, a manhole in the middle of the street. It's a long ways down, and she doesn't look forward to it.
People were really starting to wonder what on earth was going on with the three witches. It definitely wasn't the strangest of sights to see in a place like this, but the smouldering cauldron likely didn't help. It was like a smoke signal for 'Hey, over here! Some crazy shits about to happen!', attention that Sybil wasn't the biggest fan of.
Bobo started coughing again, waving her hand around before grinning at Evanora, "Me? Nah I got places to be! Ingredients to get! Know what I'm saying eh?!" She slapped her knee before hoisting up the cauldron, "Come on follow me, we'll be there in a jiffy."
Sybil turned to face Evanora, his face deathly pale with fear as he took his first few steps after Bobo the alchemists apprentice, "I'm sure it will be fine..." It was clear Evanora was also slightly stressed out by the situation, even if she was hiding it from Bobo. Sybil had no idea how a witch like Bobo could be so calm about the whole situation, if the situation really is as bad as the notice suggested then there could be some serious danger! The three walked through many twisted roads, each shop different from the next, all selling some kind of magical service.
"Okay, this one." she whispered, pointing at a rusty drain down a dark alleyway. "Just climb on down and follow the path down the sewers. You should know it when you get there."
How reassuring.
Sybil nodded slowly, holding out a hand to take the flask of the elixir that will supposedly help them. "Okay well... I hope this works."

She can feel people staring at her back, and from the looks of the cauldron, and from the woman's eratic behavior, she wasn't surprised. It smolders, glowing brightly as a small fire burns underneath. Evanora's surprised that the city hasn't laid down ordinances on such a hazardous act, even if it is traditional.
She tries to hide her face of relief when Bobo told her that she wouldn't be joining them. At least, she puts in the effort to look slightly sad, her eyebrows drawn and an expression of sympathy on her face. "A-ah, a shame." She murmurs.
She takes a glance at Sybil to see how he was fairing--and it's not much better. The paleness of his skin only accentuated his pallor and she has to commend his attempt to ease her. "Y-yeah, we'll be alright." She agrees. The people eventually grow uninterested in leave, to her relief.
When Bobo walks them down twisted roads, and Evanora thinks that she may just get lost in the concrete jungle, streets unfamiliar in this type of area. She looks down at the drain, the metal of the rusted drain looking more unappealing by the minute. Sybil takes the flask in his hand and nods slowly.
"Well, we have nothing to lose." Except maybe our lives-- Sushi pipes up, and Evanora shushes him in her mind. She says a quick thanks to Bobo, sends a prayer to Merlin, and begins her descent into the darkness below. Luckily, she can cast her spells and provide at least some light down there.
Regardless, she just hopes that the gods smile upon them today.
There was no chance to give Bobo a proper goodbye, she just ran off singing and dancing, not a care in the world. Sybil was still new to the more middle class world, so he had trouble deciding if this was a common occurrence... Probably not. Gulping down his fear and mustering up his courage, he'd soon follow Evanora down the sewers, being careful not to drop the potion (who knows what kind of disaster could happen).
"It's uh... Quite dark down here." Sybil stated, careful not to slip or fall. He eventually landed on the ground with a soft 'thud' when his shoes met the ground. Although it was quite dark, there was a sound of trickling water. Despite being a big coward, Sybil found it very comforting in the dark, probably due to his affinity with darkness and connection with his creepy giraffe.
"Y- Yeah, very dark. Did you bring a torch or anything?" he fumbled against the wall, using it to guide his way further down. Then, there was a howling sound in the distance and a flash of purple, lighting the place up for a split second.

"Yeah, it's a little dark." Evanora murmurs absentmindedly as she descends. It's not long before her feet meet the concrete, and she makes room for Sybil to do the same, and before she can say anything else, she hears a howl. The sound echoes and bounces off the walls, and leaves her ears ringing in the lingering silence.
A flash of purple soon follows, and lights up the dreary walls of the sewer. She freezes, her heart pounding against the skin of her chest. Memories past of her childhood lurk in the back of her mind, and she steels herself against such dangers.
"We'll be fine. Sushi, could you cast some light for us?" She says, her voice suddenly firm. Her familiar, a pink fairy armadillo, materializes on her shoulder. Light runs down their armor, and it illuminates the concrete walls.
She licks her lips and casts a glance at Sybil. Footsteps loud against the muted sound of rushing water, she starts walking in the direction of the purple flash.
Despite being in a dark underground sewer, the sound of running water was quite pleasant. A soothing noise that allowed Sybil to concentrate on, rather than whether or not he's going to be electrocuted. What made it more calming however was the warm glow of light coming from the... Familiar belonging to Nora. Sybil stopped ans stared, wondering what kind of animal it was but... Yeah, he didn't have a clue. A rat? Turtle? A rat-turtle? And why was it pink? The boy furrowed his eyebrows out of curiosity before hurrying forwards to catch up with her. Evanora seemed very determined, and much more braver than Sybil could ever be.
"So, Bobo said we just pour this liquid on it right?" he held it up in front of him, the light from 'Sushi' reflecting through the glass vial. "But, how exactly do you pour an elixir on a storm?" That was what had been bugging him, how was this small bottle supposed to cover a storm? Would it be a big cloud? Lightning? The witch shuddered, twitching his nose while keeping a tight hold of the elixir.
sfx:CRASH!
Another crack of lightning followed by a crash of a thunderous roar. They hadn't even got that far but it already felt closer. Sybil had almost stumbled into the running water he jumped so much. "Oh goodness!" With each step they took further, the hairs on his body seemed to stand up. Now was that because he was nervous? Or the static in the air?

She wrinkels her nose at the smell of the sewer. Sundial is usually rather clean; she'd never expected to see something so dirty underneath it's pretty exterior. It wouldn't be the first time she's seen the ugly side of the town, however. A good glance at the hovel should be enough explanation for anyone.
But she digresses.
Sybil quickly catches up to them, holding up the elixir for them to see. She looks at it, and shrugs. "I think we need to go to the source, or the center of the storm. We can figure it out from there" Her confident answer is far cry from how she really feels; nervous and anxious, perhaps more than she should be.
Another crack of lightning rips across the sewer, and she feels the roar rumble in her chest. Each step felt heavier, as if something bad was going to happen. She hears a rumble beside her; distant at first, but it grows loudly, until it's too loud to ignore.
"Do you hear that?" She says, and looks at Sybil with wide eyes.
So, there wasn't exactly a real plan at the moment, but instead they literally just had to decide on the spot. That's fine. Everything is fine. Sybil was grinning, not because he found everything funny, but he sometimes grinned when he felt awkward or nervous and now was one of those times. "Part of me wants Bobo to be here but the other part of me thinks she'll put me in an early grave." he stated, trying to lighten the mood (which was rather hard when the air around you felt like it could make you blow up any second).
A few more strikes of lightning shook the place, but this time it didn't make him jump as much. What did make him grow slightly curious however was the strange continuous rumbling, which Evanora also seemed to hear as well. "Y- Yeah I do?" he replied with a high intonation, unsure of the sound. But as it grew louder, he finally realised what it was.
Slowly, he would turn around, slowly at first, but his eyes widened when he spotted the whole sewer full of water rushing straight towards them. "Oh shi-"
There wasn't exactly too much time to think. It swept them off their feet (or him at least), and Sybil was then flapping his arms and legs around as he whizzed through the sewer. Instead of worrying about drowning however, all he could think of was whether this water was clean or... Not clean.
