Saarn is a camel spider, and it's very important to him that you understand that he is not actually a spider. He doesn't need to rely on venom and do nothing in some pansy web. Instead, he prefers to just overpower his prey with his impressive speed and crushing jaws. He isn't a brute, there's always a good reason for the biting he inflicts, but it is his first approach to problems. He can run up to 10 mph, and his bites can break bones. He's terrifying, and relishes that fact, but it's mitigated slightly by his diminutive size. He's just big enough that he still fits in Abris's hand.
[break][break]
Saarn would, of course, could never be any element except shadow. The ancients' name for camel spiders, Solifugae, literally means "to run from light." For Saarn, he finds comfort in the darkness. It's why he prefers to stick around Abris, instead of wandering about by himself. From Abris's pockets he can see everything that she does, while still remaining hidden. Whenever needed, Abris has found that Saarn is the perfect size for throwing at unsuspecting opponents. Saarn has, understandably, mixed feelings about this. On one hand, it doesn't seem terribly dignified for a proud creature such as himself, and it also immediately puts him out in the open. On the other hand, who or what he was just thrown at is rarely ever prepared to stop him from biting them.
[break][break]
Saarn's coloration is a mosaic of different shades of desert brown, arranged in a camouflage pattern. On the right terrain, it can make him almost impossible to see, but most of the time it simply makes him look intimidating. He has a slender body, exaggerated by his massive jaws (official name for these are chelicerae). Saarn can use his jaws to make a rattling echo, described by some to be reminiscent of animated skeletons. Should one ever need to discern Saarn from other camel spiders, it should be noted that he has a pair of thin red chevrons on the underside of each of his legs, occuring a couple centimeters out from his body and pointing inward.
