 blue moon you saw me standing alone | he nods a farewell, is about to depart, when the implications of saoirse's words sink in. he freezes in the same instant as her, staring at her with wide, shocked eyes. "your ink- you are máire callaghan-?" the syllables, stuttered and fragmented on his tongue, slip out of him without his control- he tries, mind whirling, to reconcile the woman he has come to know with what he knows of the famous but extremely reticent author - that is to say, not much save for rumours and speculation. but saoirse- máire- callaghan ( understandably ) does not respond to his half-question. the moment of suspended shock passes and she is suddenly a blur of moment; a frantic goodbye, panic in her eyes, turn heel and vanishing in a blur of pink. he does not call after her, does not chase her down. her life is none of his business, after all, famous author or not, and evidently she did not wish for him to find out. as... dispiriting as it is that she does not trust him, would react in such a manner, he understands ( he has no right to her trust - they are strangers still ). he... only wishes that she had not vanished before he could assure her that he would not reveal her identity. perhaps the next time they meet, then. if they will ever meet again. |
