Once-ler is a earthy green sphenodon punctatus with dim moss green eyes. He is often referred to as terrifyingly large - ranging up to 8.5 feet long and weighing around 190 pounds - which significantly boosts up his confidence. Another daunting aspect of this reptile are his razor sharp claws. Their length isn't anything too spectacular (due to his regular pedicures), but they are certainly tailored for one specific purpose: to kill.

While Phillip adores his scalely friend, it is an undeniable fact that he is beyond narcissistic. He would drone on and on about the simplistic beauty behind his "shimmering green scales" and his "overwhelming skill", even going as far as to say that Phillip is holding him back. This attitude always results in Once-ler biting off more than he can chew. To put things nicely, he is extremely ambitious and often overestimates his skills.

Another aspect of his character is his harsh nature with others. Sugar coated words disgust every fiber of his being, so whenever an opportunity presents itself, he will gladly use it to point out someone's flaws. Phillip is almost never fazed by his snide remarks, which always leaves Once-ler bitter. Though, truth be told, this cold-blooded beast has a soft place in his heart for Phillip. So, if the child were to ever fall in harms way, he would certainly be the first one to come to his defense.
