this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall

It took Tony most of the morning to get ready, but now that everything's been prepared and set properly, all he really needed to do was work his magic and witness his plan come to fruition.
Dressed in a sharp and neat suit, Tony was getting ready to start selling drinks. His stall was made up of bright, extravagant decorations, ribbons and flags sticking all around its sides. On the table was the actual product, a barrel of the drink, and several empty cups next to it. Behind was a sort of room, built up using simple cardboxes he also decorated using his illusion spells. In fact, the only thing that was real about his stall was the table and the drinks.
Just goes to show that one person could do a lot with just a few tricks up their sleeves.
What would truly be eye-catching about his particular stall though, was the large sign he put up next to the stand.
"Guess what the drink is made up of and your first cup is for free!"
People would flock to him, eager to have a nice, refreshing drink without having to pay for it. Said drink was red, so there was not a lot of guesswork that needed to be done. Still, many have failed to make the correct guess. He would lead each one inside the dark room to reveal to them the answer, and the reactions he got were always mixed. But no matter who it was, he made each person swear that they wouldn't reveal the answer to others. It was only fair after all.
So here he was, smiling brightly and waving as he called out for anyone who wanted a drink - and challenge them to a little game if they were cunning enough to try.

Sometimes, just sometimes (and you wouldn't ever hear her say this out loud, of course) Asha felt like she was, to put it flatly, out of her depth inside the Helios Knights. And the past week, in particular, she had had the sudden urge to escape the clutches of the many colorful characters of her coven and explore beyond the city center of Sundial. [break][break] She found herself renting a room in the residential area to observe the Jamboree (ah, wasn't Sundial so cool with little festivals like this? back at home they probably would have shrugged off the whole celebration and called it a work day instead). She'd been warned of the prank stalls, of course, but she couldn't just not try all of them. [break][break]
When the silver-haired girl arrived at the stall boasting a free drink, her hair had feathers in it and a part of her face was dabbled in food color. In other words, she quite had little left to lose, and among those surely not her dignity. [break][break]
"Hello! This seems like fun." she said cheerily, despite the evidence of multiple tricksters having a field day with her. Asha looked at the drinks offered with big, curious eyes. It looked red enough to guess the obvious, but there had to be something behind the trick, otherwise the boy wouldn't be smiling with such confidence. Even though she'd been fooled a dozen times over by now, she really couldn't lose hope that she'd leave one stall successful. [break][break]
She finally looked up after a minute of pondering, staring the blonde haired boy in the eye as she tried her best million dollar smile. "Do I get a free hint?"
A pretty, white haired young woman approached his stall next. Tony stared at all of the paraphernalia that covered her, and had to bite his lip to keep from laughing. Clearly this young woman had gone through other stalls already, and came out of it at the losing end. As it was, he had a grin on his face which he worked to cover up by stepping closer to her and throwing his arms wide.
"Welcome! Yes, my stall is lots of fun. And guaranteed not to ruin your already beautiful visage." He winked before continuing. "The drink is good, I promise you. And all you need to do to get it for free is guess what it's made up of."
The white haired woman approached the barrel to inspect it. Since she didn't touch it yet, he gave no protest and waited for a while. Still, he kept a close eye on her, wary of any subtle hand gestures or mouth movements. When she looked back at him with a charming smile and a request, he smiled back as he wagged a finger.
"That wouldn't be fair to the others who've already tried I'm afraid." He placed a hand to his chest in mock horror. "Imagine what they would think if I gave in because of a pretty face. They would think me a cad!"
After letting out a distressed sigh, he smiled. "So there you have it. Don't worry about guessing incorrectly. Nothing bad's going to happen if you do. You'll just have to pay for the drink."
He held a cup under the faucet as he poured some of the red liquid substance from the barrel. Then he held it out to the woman with a questioning gaze.

[break][break] Asha giggled good-naturedly at the man's wink, finding that charm did indeed work both ways as they said. Asha had heard the description, and confirming it once more from the stranger's lips wasn't too bad, although by the look on her face she was quite ready to get her hands on the drink. [break][break] Her request was met with a simple denial, and she pouted but didn't say anything. It had been a long shot to begin with, but she had to try her girlish charm every once in a while or it might just fade before her eyes. Or so they said. [break][break] "I see," she mumbled thoughtfully, looking back into the barrel and then up at the vendor. "Well, it smells...of fruit? But doesn't have the tinge of wine..." [break][break] Stop acting like you know what you're saying, Polaris grumbled lazily, causing Asha to click her tongue and roll her eyes, despite the familiar not being very apparent. It was a rude thing to do, but since Asha almost never had enough space to bring out her enormous polar bear, she'd have to suffice with telepathic communication. [break][break] "Is it made of..." She frowned once more before guessing. There was obviously some trick to it, and she felt bad for picking the obvious choice. Her violet eyes flickered around the stall, showing a sharpness that betrayed her softer exterior. [break][break] "Strawberry?" she asked harmlessly, vaguely wondering how much she'd have to spend to be made fool of again.

Arms crossed confidently, Tony waited with a smile as the woman thought over her answer, muttering out her thoughts and ideas about the drink. He gave no hint at all, keeping his face steady; his smile unchanging. Many others have tried to guess what the drink was made up of, and Tony has heard all types of answers from reasonable to ridiculous. Finding out how other minds work was entertaining, especially if they were unique and odd.
Her answer, when it came, was easy and simple. Not that he judged her for it. Strawberry was one of the first things a person thought of because of its color, and one could taste a hint of said fruit in the drink if they really thought about it.
"Well then, allow me to show you what this drink is made up of." Tony went around the stall, towards the large room he set up behind. Standing in front of what served as the entrance, he gestured grandly at it, urging the white haired woman to go through first. "Step inside and feast your eyes upon this ingenious mixture!"
There was only darkness within, and no one would be able to see a thing at first. As Tony stepped inside with her, he raised a hand and snapped his fingers. All of a sudden light flared in the room as candles suddenly lit up, and revealed a large tank with blood-red liquid right in the center. Inside were several decapitated heads floating and knocking into each other randomly, their faces frozen in expressions of horror and extreme pain.

[break][break] Asha was not quite sure what to expect from the prank stall, because in her opinion her guess was fairly accurate. She was certain she knew the smell and flavor of strawberry when she was presented with it, so she wasn't quite sure what the trick was going to be. When the male told her to head off into the room to see the actual ingredients, she pouted for a bit. "You mean I wasnt correct?" she asked, giving the barrel a disgruntled looked before relunctantly following the boy. [break][break] He motioned for her to move in front of him and she did so easily, her thoughts not very focused on the external world as her mind did a bit of muttering on its own. She frowned when presented with a dark room. "Hey, what's the dea--" [break][break] Ashanti wasn't exceptionally squeamish, but she was an average girl for the most part. And so when she was presented with a pair of horror-struck heads that were rolling about in a pool of their own blood, her mind pulled a blank and she started to scream. [break][break] "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" Horrified did not begin to cut it. She couldn't even think as the mere sight of the heads filled her mind with all kinds of imagery. For a bit. And then it went blank, and she concentrated on the force of her scream. [break][break] Polaris woke to the sound of Asha screaming, and it was at the moment he knew he'd failed the poor girl as her guardian. Shit. He materialized immediately into the vacant space of the cardboard room, the glowering monster thrashing wildly as he attempted to get a grasp of what was going on. In the process, he knocked over a table and turned his glare towards Anthony. [break][break] Asha, on her end, had barely managed to stop screaming, although her eyes were shut and closed tightly, and her hands hung over her head as if to protect herself. Huh. At least the knights had taught her well.

The screams of his victims were like energy drinks to Tony. Every time he went inside with someone, he couldn't help but admire the magnificent artwork he created with mere cardboard boxes. Everyone's reactions were slightly different, but most had the same look of horror that the white haired woman currently had. She had the loudest scream though.
What he didn't expect was for a large creature to suddenly appear out of nowhere and growl in anger. Tony had to step back a few steps as the furry form took up space.
"Stars and stones! What the hell is that?!" Judging by the fact that it appeared just as the woman screamed, it was probably hers. And probably trained to attack anything that hurt or frightened its master.
When it turned to his direction, he immediately held up his hands in the air. "It was a joke! A simple, completely harmless prank! Today's the Joker Jamboree after all! See? She's not hurt or anything at all. Just a bit frightened. Aren't you miss?" He almost missed the way the creature knocked over the table. The tank tumbled over then landed on the ground as mere folded cardboard. With a trembling finger, he pointed at it. "There! Look! It's not real. I just used spells to make it look like a tank."
Flinching from the creature, he closed his eyes and looked away with a squeak. "Please don't eat me. I don't taste very good. Ask my familiar. He's bitten me more times than I can count." Wait. That doesn't really help his case. "He throws up and gets sick every time he takes a bite at me, but he does it even though he knows he's going to suffer. He's a masochist that way."
As he kept speaking and stalling for time, he glanced at the white haired woman occasionally, hoping that she'd come to her senses and hold back the monster that looked like it was about to pummel him to mush.

Unfortunately for Tony, Asha was still in a state of fear-induced panic, the rapid heart rates clogging any attempt at conscious, coherent thought. She has her hands raised to protect herself, and due to the sheer lack of thought inside her mind, Polaris was certain she had died or at least was in no capable state to make a decision for herself. Blinded by his own rage, Polaris wasn't really able to tell what the man meant by prank or Joker's Jamboree, and the mighty bear took a menacing step towards the man, killer frost escaping narrowly parted lips.
[break][break]When Ash did regain some semblance of consciousness, she saw first a pile of cardboard on the floor where the tank had been. And then it all hit her as she remembered exactly where she was. She was in Sundial City, not some monster's dungeon. And outside of this little room, there was a festival going on. The Joker's Jamboree of all things.
[break][break]She stood up, still staring at the cardboard while the prankster begged for mercy some meters behind her. Was she an idiot? No, she had just fallen hard for this man's prank, and embarrassment coursed through her like a well-worn river of familiar emotions. Well. It was the Jamboree, which meant she could get her revenge sooner rather than earlier.
[break][break]She turned around and stalked towards the man, in a manner all-too similar to her familiar. "How dare you make a fool of me!" She shouted, and Polaris roared inches away from the man's face. She tried to keep the anger for as long as she could letting it settle for a good and terrifying amount of time. She wanted to continue the act, maybe find some other lie to say.
[break][break]Except she really wasn't good at lying on such a grand scale, and she stumbled over the next few sentences before sighing all lack-lustre. "Just kidding, really."
[break][break]Ash suddenly felt tired and one foot felt weaker than the other so she leaned helplessly against her familiar, half of her small and delicate frame cushioned in the furs of the giant polar bear. She mumbled something and Polaris snorted before finally moving his head away from the man's face.

Tony's words seem to fall on deaf ears. The white haired woman said nothing, and the giant, furry monster only seemed angrier as time passed. And here he was, doing so well his with grand masterpiece. He couldn't have imagined that a single woman might be his downfall.
If the thing attacked, he was more than ready to drop his entire business and run for his life. Body tensed up, he was getting ready to do just that when finally the other woman finally came to her senses and straightened up. Tony watched as she turned around, marching straight for him, looking very angry.
In the most sincere, straight face he could make, he spoke. "A goddess like you should never be worried about looking like a fool. Anyone with eyes would see that." His expression shattered as the creature moved closer to him. He flinched and leaned as far back as he could, without knocking over the cardboard box they were in.
After a short while, he sensed the thing backing away and opened one eye halfway to stare at the white haired woman and her...pet? guardian? They had backed off, and - for now at least - were sincere in dropping the matter peacefully.
He straightened up, still looking warily over at the fuzzy bear, as he spoke. "I'm really sorry about scaring you like that." Placing a hand on his chest, he went on. "Please let me make it up to you somehow. Maybe with lunch or dinner somewhere?" At the offer, he gave the most charming smile he could make.

Asha's angry face had flickered to flush but she had persevered, only relaxing once her intimidation was done. When she had leaned into Polaris, it had been in part to cool off her own burning face.[break][break]
She pouted with her face still pressed into Polaris's white fur before angrily jumping out, one finger pointing angrily at the boy who seemed around her age. "Yeah?! Are you expecting me to believe you now?" she demanded before sighing, completely exasperated.[break][break]
In between the physically exhausting stalls she went to before reaching Tony's, and now this boy's mentally and emotionally exhausting stall, all Asha wanted to do was curl into her polar bear and sleep. Unintentionally, she mirrored the boy's smile with a weak one of her own.[break][break]
Ignoring his offer entirely, she instead went to look around the room, leaving Polaris still standing midway between her and the trickster. "So you just made the whole stall an illusion, huh? That's pretty awesome." Which brought her back to her own melancholy regarding her affinity. Sigh. Illusion sounded so fun...[break][break]
"Are you a Jester?" she asked curiously. She was planning on going to the Sun Cafe tomorrow and wanted to be prepared if she ran into the illusionist again.
Tony cleared his throat and smoothed out the wrinkles on his clothes as he straightened up, still maintaining the smile. Unfazed by her lack of response to his invitation, he rested a hand on his hip as he used his other to knock lightly on the cardboard box wall.
"I know. Ingenious isn't it? And cost-effective. I didn't need anyone to help me set up my stall to look as grand as others out there." It was the many perks of being an illusionist. The facade and presentation were more important than anything else. A lesson he embraced and lived by ever since.
At her question, he smirked. "Depends. What answer would you like to hear?"
He moved closer to the middle, raising his hands up at the big bear that was still eyeing him, and dragged his body until he was standing right beside the table. Every step he took was slow and careful so as not to startle the creature into attacking him. With deliberate movements, he picked up the box and placed it back on the table. As he let go, the cardboard box once again flickered into the image of the tank with the floating heads.
"Regardless of whether they're right or not, I show them this. It's the prank." He turned back around to face her. "Are you still interested in knowing if you got it right?"
While he waited for her answer - with the intention of asking her out as compensation instead of having her pay for the drink - he heard Loki's frantic voice in his head.
"Your cover's blown. Time to close shop."
As soon as he got the message, Tony clapped his hands and brightened up at the white haired woman. "Well! You know what? I've given you enough trouble so let's just say the drink's for free eh? It pains me to scare such a cute lady." He began to slowly back up towards the entrance, stopping to take a bow when he reached the frame.
"Alas, it is time for me to go. Perhaps fate shall bring us together once again. Adieu!" Spinning around, he began to run to the right, with Loki bouncing down from the top of the cardboard box to lead him away.
Right behind their tails were a group of witches, panting and red-faced. "Those drinks were ours you thief! Get back here!"
