We are raised where the sky meets the sea, on ships in the midst of a sapphire expanse and where archaic laws of the mainland dare not touch. Before we are even permitted to feel the dryness of solid ground, however, we can see the whole of Salem and its riches (and, of course, how they may be attained) through the eyes of our kin. We learn through their experiences and the guidance of the atheneum heads of the Court who link our minds and merge our senses.
[break][break]All significant activities of the Court are communal, and each of our futures are determined by the whole, for the sake of maintaining the influence of our name and the comfortable leisure of their lives. Not all can become leaders, and not all could remain drifting on their little paradise at sea.
[break][break]When a child of the Court is born with a gifted mind, they are groomed to become one of the heads, the all-important centers of their mental network. There is little risk in this, since the atheneum blood runs strong in their family's veins. How could someone with such incredible memory not grasp the most basic of mind-based spells?
[break][break]
It was a great sorrow, a decade or so ago, when the Court had discovered that they had erred; what they thought was their most gifted head in training was, in fact, a defect.
[break][break]
The error had developed too much to be permanently removed from the Court without emotional disruption, but it could not be allowed to taint their highest social classes.
[break][break]
So, instead, it was sent away as a diplomat and trade manager in Sundial. It would have been an honorable position for any of the Courtmembers on the mainland, or even for the lower-ranking members of their fleet. It was, by all written and remembered accounts, an amiable transition. The defect would be merged with their consciousness increasingly less over the years, and the Court's past mistake lost its significance in their mind after this correction.

How?
[break]It was a great sorrow, a decade or so ago, when the Court had discovered that they had erred; what they thought was their most gifted head in training was, in fact, a defect.
[break][break]
No--
[break]The error had developed too much to be permanently removed from the Court without emotional disruption, but it could not be allowed to taint their highest social classes.
[break][break]
You can't just--
