this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.

It is not death that I fear, but never living.
Another grunt forced its way from between Tsubaki's teeth, her hand contorting in a rather unnatural posture as the tendrils deposit a larger crate in the wagon bed. The shadowy tentacles relax, seeming to dissolve into the air around themselves. Tsu had never felt amiss in the underbelly of Eclipse Town. The well trodden paths and ruts of caravan wheels reminded her of time spent beyond the walls and in the wild. She catches the hint of a fragrance against her nose, inhaling deeply to catch their use.[break][break]
"Chamomile," she mutters. "Good for calming frayed nerves." The wolf raises his head from the shadows, sniffing about as well. "I'm impressed you could pick that out from the reek of garlic." She snorts in mock offense. "What, did you think my nose would stay dull after 6 years with an alchemist?" She scratches the wolf behind his ears, flicking a sheet of paper from her belt. "It says that a girl from the Helios Knights would be coming to help on the wanted ad. You don't suppose she got lost in the caverns?"[break][break]
She shrugs as Echo disappears into the form of her shadow. "Fair enough. She'll turn up eventually." She rolls her neck, sighing a bit before springing forth a set of shadow tendrils to lift another box, returning to the task at hand, aiding the caravaneers in their preparations.
Candamius Lux was late again. How was it that she was continuously late for the important jobs? She had been late for her narwhal-sitting job as well. This was not going to help her, this being late all the time. Maybe I do need to get an alarm clock, she thought with a distressed sigh. She hated alarm clocks though. They were loud, obnoxious, and it was a horrible sound to wake up to—that stupid tiny hammer beating against those little bells. It was such an unpleasant way to wake up.
“You really should invest in an alarm clock.” She heard Kokabiel’s voice echo chidingly in her mind.
Dami groaned, hating how Kokabiel’s statement matched up with her own internal conversation. She hated when he said things that lined up with the responsible thing she should do that she didn’t want to do.
“We’ll talk about it later,” she grumbled aloud. Right now, she had to focus on getting to the loading site.
She huffed, puffed, and wheezed, determined not to slow down until she arrived at her destination. She dropped her head as she strained with effort, forcing herself to run forward, though her lungs were screaming at her to stop.
“You’ll be too tired to even work if you keep this up,” Kokabiel commented, but Dami ignored him and pressed on.
She was nearly there! She just had to round this corner and then she’d be there. As she rounded the corner, she lifted her head and saw the loading station. The other witch—a witch from Silvertongue, as Dami had learned—was already there, loading the crates. Dami huffed her way over to the other witch, stopping nearly dead in front of her.
“Sorry… I’m late,” she apologized between breaths. “I… overslept,” she finished shamefully.

Tsuga waves dismissively, haphazardly tossing a sack of foodstuff onto the wagon bed. "No such thing as late here. They leave when they're ready, and as long as you're contributing to the work, you'll get your pay." She turns to face the girl, the shadows under her cloak seeming to stir as the glow of blue comes into view, the gaps between Echo's teeth becoming clearer as he takes in the girl's scent. The glow swiftly disappears as Tsubaki approaches the girl, "Besides, it's not like you live here. The only people that ever come to the tunnels are people that need to."[break][break]
She hefts another bag of food, tossing it to the girl. "We just need to load these wagons up with the bags and crates near them." She eyes the girl again as the shadowy form of the wolf suddenly oozes from beneath her cloak, picking up more bags with tendrils of shade in her stead. Her eyes narrow as she traces the body of the girl, seeming to bore through what lay on this plane and look a little beyond. Tsubaki nods in satisfaction before turning back to her work. "You have a good bond. I can't tell much beyond that, but you're heading somewhere, that much is certain."[break][break]
Candamius was relieved, to say the least, that her partner was not upset by her late arrival. The other girl’s manners surprised the summoner. Had Candamius been partnered with anyone else, she probably would have been scolded for her tardiness. Dami could hardly believe her luck and she was silently thanking her lucky stars for such a partner for this mission. Of course, she really did need to invest in an alarm clock, as much as she hated the idea. She couldn’t keep sleeping in and waking up to find herself overdue for a mission. It wouldn’t help her to advance within the Helios Knights. She had to do better.
With this in mind, Dami was determined to prove herself. And on this mission, too!
She looked up at the other witch with some surprise and embarrassment. Dami had completely missed what she had said until Dami had heard her say “You have a good bond.” Dami blushed a little. “Thanks,” she answered shyly in return, tucking a pale strand behind her ear.
She chuckled a little at the other girl’s comment about where they were going. “I think we’re just trying to get towards an apprenticeship more than anything right now,” she confessed. Dami didn’t have a great many ambitions—other than to prove herself to the family clan, but that wasn’t something she was going to openly admit.
Ultimately, she just liked to think that she wanted to prove herself to everyone: that she wasn’t cursed and that she didn’t need to be accepted by her kin—that she didn’t want to be. Really, she wanted to throw their rejection of her back in their faces when she became the most powerful Lux in all of Sundial. Then they might rethink how they treated her.
“So I guess we better get to work!” she added with a soft smile, completely recovered from her run and eager to prove herself.
She walked over to one of the closed crates and began to try to lift it. She barely lifted it off the ground before she had to set it back down. “These are heavy!” she cried with surprise, dismay creeping across her features.

"You can leave the crates to me," Tsubaki sighs, "just load the sacks in, and make sure the crates that are already inside are roped into place. You'll be useless here if you hurt yourself. Most of the men need to work in pairs to lift the crates, though Echo and I can do it with shadows if we're close enough together." She steps back towards the wolf, the process of his lifting increasing as their shadows came back into contact in the dim lantern light. "I'm not familiar with your magic, so I can't really gauge what you could do with that, but there's plenty more bags than there are crates."[break][break]
She continues her work in silence for a bit, simply observing the girl before striking the conversation up again. "So what made you take this job? Working in the caverns isn't exactly glamorous work. Did you just happen to be in the area, or are you here for something else and just needing extra money?" Tsubaki hoists herself up onto the bed of the wagon, uncorking her water skin and taking a long drought. "You don't seem like the kind of boy to take this kind of work, so you've got me a bit curious."
