Born as William Privera he grew up in a home where he felt every day like he didn't belong. His parents were very strict to both him and his sibling; often purposefully pitting them against one another for their attention and approval. It wasn't a very happy childhood to start with. It is no wonder he doesn't talk about it. To be completely honest besides his sibling he hasn't been in contact with a member of his family in nearly a decade when he ran away.
At the age of twelve a circus came through town and both kids stowed away with them. The ringleader was the one who caught them and had planned to send the pair back home. The two kids managed to convince to woman to let them stay under the guise of her niece and nephew by giving her a sob story of being orphaned; having run away from the orphanage where they were regularly abused verbally. Having lost her own child previously they become a sort of second chance for her and she treated them like her own. They even took on her last name as their own for appearance purposes.
They become part of the act; pulling their own weight in exchange for the silence of the ringmaster to the others. It was fun. It was joyous. It was an actual childhood for his sibling and part of one for himself. They got along with most of the people there and were able to learn/grow as people without the poisonous influence of their family.
They were of course during this time searched for and not found thanks to the transient nature of the circus. Officially they were declared missing still as no bodies have been recovered. The circus itself has since ceased operation thanks to various political pressures upon them by the helios knights leading to many of the members to join the covens full time. Jester's Den is the perfect place to be... no questions asked as long as you don't do anything crazy.
