history
i guess
- born an only child to two witches who divorced when lilie was barely five years old. her mother wasn't one to hold a job, so she lived primarily with her goverment-employed father. both doted on her when she was young, seeking to be the coveted "favorite parent".
- as she got older, her mother began to move on: new husband, new child, new life. lilie felt like an extra,
and began to see less and less of her maternal family. it wasn't anything traumatic, her father never remarried and had plenty of attention to give her. - more time passed, and she began to blossom. she was developing interests and hobbies, things like makeup and clothes and particularly how to make them her own. things that a middle aged man found hard to relate to, wasn't sure what to with. so he didn't. when she expressed interest in creating her own outfits, becoming a designer,
he tried to steer her away. she should settle into steady work, he said. go to college, do something lucrative rather than take risks in the creative industry. lilie's father grew more and more heavy-handed and insistent when it came to his daughter's future. she pulled away. they began to grow further and further apart. - finally, she broke away entirely. enrolled in college for business to appease her father, snuck in creative electives on the side). he was encouraged enough by the show to find her a studio to rent out closer to her classes -- he'd pay the rent, he said, if she covered utilities and continued taking classes toward a practical degree. it was enough of a compromise for her, even if she's gotten tired of playing good student. in her own place, she's left to her own devices and her own life.
