this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.

he arrives a while before they are due to depart, limbs and dark shirt pressed into the shadows cast by a rising sun in an inconspicuousness incongruous with his bright, fire-red hair. observe before he is observed himself - gain an impression of the client before the mission begins - habits braided into his instincts and solidified by experience. at least his partner is known, is trusted.
aurélia katona: kasimir smiles slightly, visions of fire and fury rising to the fore, the phantom taste of ash and copper-salt on his tongue. rarely have there been a mission in which their partnership has not ended in flames or destruction - literal, not metaphorical - and he finds himself in part anticipating what ruination they might wreak this time. the other part of him, of logic and rationality, that remembers how he s h a t t e r e d the last time he ventured into the wilds not a few weeks ago, rather hopes this journey might be a rarity of peace, unlikely as that is.
footsteps; his eyes sharpen, posture straightens; stepping back deeper into the shadows that cloak him so; lie in wait.

YOU'VE WAITED IN VAIN BECAUSE THERE'S NOTHING FOR YOU
There was something beautiful about destruction and the chaos that would ensue, nothing was ever left unscathed when she worked with Kasimir Burovski; their presence was something to be feared– the flames were anticipated. She was always fond of the smoke that would linger within the air, how it tasted against her tongue or how the flames they leave would spread without hesitation if left alone long enough. A smile settles against her lips at thought, the trouble welcomed without second thought; Kasimir was a close friend and valued partner after all.
She forces her hands deeper within her pockets are she treks further down the beaten road, pale colored eyes peering towards the looming trees the forest of percival had to offer; curious of what creatures lied within the darkness though the thought of their presence failed to startle her. While the escort mission was far from what she was used to, the details failed to be daunting and her own confidence left unrattled. However, she had no doubt that Martinez Ginkus would be a little fearful of the raised monster activity.
Her steps would eventually slow before her own movement would grow to a halt, her breath slowing for just a moment as she glanced around the rendezvous location– there was little sign of Kasimir lurking about. A small sigh slips past her own lips, her head turning slightly as she faintly hears the crunch of footsteps in the distance. Her gaze narrowed for a brief moment though promptly lightened when she noticed a short stout man approaching.
“Mr. Martinez Ginkus,” She addressed with a gentle smile, her sharp tongue refrained for now, “It’s good to see that you made it unscathed, unfortunately, we’re still awaiting the arrival of my partner.” Some portion of her believed that Kasimir had arrived before either one of them though another part wasn’t quite sure.

you saw me standing alone
she appears like something out of a vision, hair like the fire of sunset, eyes the pale green of chrysoprase jade; his expression brightens fractionally and kirjava hums with something approaching fierce anticipation in the back of his mind. kasimir is a hairsbreadth away from stepping out of the shadows to greet his partner when the faltering cadence of more footsteps announce the arrival of another; he stands still and waits, instead, as their client approaches aurélia.
a short, rather stout man, ginkus greets aurélia with a genuine if not quite nervous smile, bobbing his head as he stammers a hello. kasimir finds himself raising a brow at the sheer twitchiness of their client - and wondering how exactly the man will fare given his and aurélia's mutual tendency towards attracting trouble and causing fire, fury, and destruction. kirjava snickers; 'that is not very nice,' he tells her, but it is not possible to lie in his mind, and the amusement saturating his mental tone betrays him.
but. but, he has delayed for long enough; kasimir slips out of the shadows, quietly taking a spot just outside of their client's peripheral vision, catching aurélia's eye as he does so. a hint of mischief sparks across his face before he hides it behind his customary stoicism. "mr ginkus," he greets, very deliberately not reacting to the way the man jumps in surprise. he inclines his head towards his partner. "aurélia." a glance at the forest that looms in front of them. "shall we?"
YOU'VE WAITED IN VAIN BECAUSE THERE'S NOTHING FOR YOU
There was a genuine nervousness that seemed to radiate from her stout client, the uncertain smile that seemed to settle onto his lips upon hearing her kind yet off putting greeting; she was almost surprise to hear the man return a simple hello to her words, “There’s nothing to fear.” She attempts to assure her client, her attention turning away from the looming shadows to focus on Martinez Ginkus yet her eyes seemed to linger for just a moment; a hint of red catching the corner of her eye– Kasimir.
The man seemed hesitant to trust her calming words, his own head craning to look towards the shadows before his attention is whisked away once more from her, “I’m sure he’ll arrive soon.” She makes a point to remind him to focus onto her for just a moment longer and it seemed to work long enough for the damage. A smile settles onto her lips when Kasimir slips into the conversation with ease and the startled expression from their client adding more to the shared amusement, “Ah, there he is.” She glances towards Kasimir though her attention diverted back to the conversation when her partner made the point to head towards their destination.
“Of course, best to head out now before time turns against us.” She chimes in her agreement, not wasting a single moment to move towards the entrance of the forest though she pauses for just a moment, “Be sure to chime in directions when necessary, you know your home better than we do.”

he returns aurélia's smile with a softening of his own expression, fondness winging its way through the green of his eyes before it is replaced with steady focus. a mission classed as one rank below his actual status this may be, but kasimir has not forgotten the consequences of the last time he had not paid enough attention to his surroundings. one cannot be too careful in these times.
he inclines his head in silent agreement with this partner's words as their client turns nervous eyes onto him, posture straight in a non-verbal assurance of calm and dependability; it appears to work as ginkus lets out a shaky breath and jerks a nod, turning to march his first steps into the forest that holds his home. kasimir follows, a silent wraith at the rear of their group, ever and constantly scanning the shadows pooling within branches and foliage for any hints of a threat.
'kirjava? could you scout ahead, please?' a feathersoft brush against his familiar's mind is met with a pulse of affirmation ( and a flash of fierce protectiveness, steely determination; kasimir is likely not the only one recalling the events of suixitium ). the ocelot slips into the material world with a tacit step, shadows rippling across her fur as she sinks into the darkness and streaks off ahead. so quick and subtle is she that he highly doubts their client would have even noticed her; aurélia, though, should hopefully have been made aware. 'stay within switch range.'
this time, her response is the mental equivalent of a fond, exasperated sigh and a dry reminder that she, unlike him ( and the majority of the world ), yet retains common sense thank you very much. there is a reason kasimir loves his familiar.
slipping closer to aurélia for a moment, kasimir tilts his head minutely in her direction. "i can summon a few atronachs," he murmurs, in low enough of an undertone that their client would not easily be able to overhear. it is mere habit, in all honestly. "but it may be prudent to wait until we enter more dangerous ground." in other words, once they have travelled further in.

YOU'VE WAITED IN VAIN BECAUSE THERE'S NOTHING FOR YOU
There some humor to be had with how meek their client was, how a nervous yet calm composure would unravel easily from the creaking of old looming trees or the briefest shift of the leaves of scampering animals. It was an amusing sight though it was almost pitiful how he would jump at the noise, how he made no effort to conceal his worries. She was aware of the recent monster activity though she wasn't too worried about the beasts that lurked in the shadows and she wondered if Kasimir had felt the same towards their escort mission, “Mr. Ginkus, you're in safe hands. Don't think about the beasts that are lurking here, waiting, and nearly ready to pounce.” She offered him a reassuring the smile though there was devious look that glimmered in her eyes when she spoke before she turned her head forward once again.
It was a subtle movement though it was one she acknowledged, the subtle tilt of his head and how the words slipped past his lips in a whisper. Aurélia is quiet for a moment as she listens, humming under her own breath at the possible prospect and she nearly chuckles, “Atronachs could prove to be useful though our dear client might die from shock. It's best we hold onto the idea for now, I can summon some as well if it's necessary.” She returns the glance, a smug smirk settling onto her pale lips at the hushed words; she could nearly feel the chaos in the air.
Her demeanor seems to transform as she tilts her head away from Kasimir, her posture straightening as their small group traverses deeper into the forest; the start of the path was only a faint memory now, “It seems that we're approaching a fork, which way are we headed?” She speaks up after a moment, her gaze switching between her dear partner and their sweet terrified client.

their client all but squeaks in fright at aurélia's 'reassurance', stumbling over his own feet for a measure of steps before finally regaining his ( still faltering ) stride. were kasimir a less self-contained man, he would have sprained himself rolling his eyes while probably heaving an exasperated sigh for good measure. as it is, he side eyes her with as deadpan an expression as he can muster ( though, the glint of humour that peaks through green betrays what his countenance does not ).
that, and how, when ginkus sneaks a few twitchy, terrified glances his way, kasimir stares stoically ahead as if there were nothing unusual about what his partner had said.
he does have a sense of humour, despite what some ( or many ) may say.
a slight inclination of head in acknowledgement of aurélia’s answer and he lets himself once again drift to the back, eyes constantly scanning the shifting tapestry of foliage against which placidity seems all the more deceptive for its hushed whisper of windsong, gaze lingering where the shadows pool in impenetrable depths of black, fingers never too far from the hilt of his sword strapped at his waist; the beating heart of the forest echoes in his ears slow and steady, timeless like the ancient entity it is. there is nothing to indicate even the slightest hint of danger. not even kirjava, a silent wraith darting through the undergrowth with the grace of a natural born hunter and eyes of narrowed gold, reports any disturbance or creature or obstacle in their path.
kasimir does not trust this seeming tranquility any more than he does the safety of the wild unknown.
they reach a fork in the road, both paths equally unkept, as if tendrils of unnamable green had crept out to where the tread of those rare few travellers had beaten out a trail and quietly reclaimed them. long since lost to them is the faint glimmer of light marking the beginning. unseen by their client, kasimir’s lips quirk up in a momentary smile at the flash of amber-gold eyes within the shadows by the left path; kirjava flicks her tail and disappears back into his immaterial thoughts while they await further direction.
for all his nervous paranoia, ginkus does not notice a single thing.
he stutters, skin bone-white as he wrings his hands, eyes darting between aurélia and himself in flashes of panicked brown. kasimir regards him, slightly bemused. nothing has happened yet - even their teasing is light at best. “l-l-left!” grinkus blurts out, quailing under their combined gazes, then snaps his jaw shut as if he had not meant to speak.
kasimir stares at their client for a moment more, exchanges a look with his partner. perhaps it is merely a result of the overt paranoia carved into each firing neutron, every curve of his ribs, but he is… beginning to become suspicious of the sheer nervousness ginkus displays. it simply cannot be normal, can it?
“left, then,” he says calmly, eyes settling back onto the short man, letting none of his tumultuous thoughts show through his expression, his tone. like the whisper of the wind, kirjava once again slips into reality and sinks into the shadows ahead, leaving not even the flutter of leaves in her wake. their steps resume, muffled and soft but all too loud in the quietude of the morn.
