this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.

Ah. Shit. Shit. Percy continues to caress her face. She's not looking at him, her eyes are glazed and blank. Percy rubs a soothing thumb to her cheek, attempting to illicit a reaction. Anything, anything. Percy's worried face stares at her idle one. Just what did she see? Her familiar materializes and nuzzles against her. No reaction.
Ling doesn't say anything. But somehow, Percy knows. He tries to deny it. He loves her, doesn't he? No, I don't. Give yourself another chance. Nothing will change either way. She's talented and pretty and reliable. She is, she will always will be. His mind comes up with a hundred other reasons, and he comes up with a thousand more alibis. Percy's eyes darken in utter disappointment--at himself, he is only to blame here--and that's what Ling sees through her tearful eyes. Shit.
The mood dissipates as Percy scrambles to console her. This time it's genuine. He pulls her into a hug, not letting anyone see her tears. It's one thing to cry, but no one else should see. "Ssshh, it's okay," Percy croons. When she's finally able to speak he pries him away from the hug. Meeting her watery eyes makes Percy so, so... defeated. Relaxed. Accepting. He smiles sadly.
Percy offers her a handkerchief and leads her away from the shop. He opts for a bench under the an the shade of an oak. He sits, and pats the space next to him.
"Ah," Percy finally says. His voice sounds faraway. He squints at the sky, blinded by the light. "I... don't know, Ling. Wait, scratch that. I know, but it's only now. What did you see?"
The brunette looks at her, waiting until her image comes into focus. Inevitably, her puffy eyes, too. "It was about us, wasn't it?"

There is a flash of disappointment in Percy's eyes, quickly hidden as he pulls her into a hug, but she knows what she saw, and it hits her like a lance of ice, seizing her lungs more than any vision ever could and sending a fresh wave of tears pooling in her eyes. She tries to fight them back, she really, truly does - but some battles are just too hard, and Ling has never claimed to be strong. Her shoulders shake and she leans into his arms, pressing her forehead against his chest while she tries to pull herself together.
She's a young, teenage romantic with dreams of the future - but even she is realist enough to see the writing on the wall, and she refuses to make Percy feel bad for it, she refuses. She might not be what he wants in a girlfriend, but she'll still try damn hard to be a good friend.
With a deep breath, she pulls away and wipes the tears away, offering her (ex-?)boyfriend a wobbly smile. There is defeat in his eyes, too, and somehow, she knows that realisation has set in for him too. They both know where this is heading, both feel it in their bones - but even now, Ling doesn't want to be the first to speak, doesn't want to be the first to set resignation into motion.
He leads her to a bench and they sit, side by side as if they were ( are ) still dating, and shadows from the foliage above play across their faces. There is a long stretch of silence, both of them lost in the narrative of their internal thoughts, before Percy once again proves he is the older, more mature one by finally addressing that which lies between them, heavy and sad.
She looks at him, and looks away. Nods. "...yeah." Her voice is quiet, small, lacking in the cheer and exuberance normally associated with everything she does. "... are you going to break up with me?" she asks quietly, eyes fixed on the play of sunlight at their feet. Selfish, it's such a fucking selfish question, she should have just done it herself, should have gathered her courage and spared him the pain, but... she just.. can't.
Too young, too small, too lost. She feels adrift, alone, and she has no one but herself to account for. But maybe that's just growing up.

During that heavy silence Percy thinks about what he really wants. He has released her... and is it even possible to miss the warmth of the hug? But he doesn't love her, not anymore. What does he want to do with his life? He wants to gain power. That's what he truly wants. Anything else will follow. But will it really? He's sacrificing too much, he knows that. His mind is trained towards that one selfish goal, and he just wasted Ling's feelings for him. It may be young love, but it is true love. Loving is never a mistake. Only the time isn't right.
Percy wonders if they had met during a different time. During a different place. If they had met when he is more successful, would he have loved her truly? If they had me in a time when being weak is okay, when power isn't a big deal, would he have loved her earnestly?
He closes his eyes for a moment. No, this can't be. Time is always right. Everything is always meant to happen, at least in this universe. It's the person. It's the heart.
She answers him in that small voice. Percy's heart doesn't break anymore. But it seems that his hands are going to be wounded as he tries to offer Ling back the broken pieces of her heart, with hope that somehow, someone, would make her truly happy. And that person isn't him.
Such a lame excuse. "I..." Percy drawls. Deep breath. He almost doesn't want to say it, but he should. "Ling, I..." Then the brunette looks at the smaller girl. A bittersweet smile. He slowly reaches for her hand, and he grips them, probably for the last time.
"I loved you."
But it's a dead end.

There is another pause, a moment suspended in time that weighs heavy with emotion on their shoulders. She glances up in time to see him close his eyes, and looks away again. Yeah... resignation tastes both bitter and sweet, like their first kisses, that first spark, and like the emptiness inside her while she forever chases after the feeling of not being alone. But she understands, she really does, she tells herself and almost believes it.
She's supposed to stop loving Percy when they break up. When it's over. She hurts, yes, she hurts and aches in a way she's never felt before, but... she still loves him, and she doesn't know how to stop. But it's the end, and she knows it, accepts it. She just needs to... grow up, move on.
He reaches for her hands. Grips them. His hands are soft, warm. She looks at him, looks at his eyes, and she still loves him. "I loved you," he says, and it's a goodbye, past tense, the end of their chapter. She knows this, she knows this; but her heart still believes in a story written in the present, still loves like it cannot yet process when her mind knows, and she wants to reach out for him, wants to be with him still.
She still loves him. But she know's it's over. "I'm sorry," she says, and smiles as bright as she can manage. "I... hope you find someone that makes you happy, one day."

Why is she saying sorry? No, she should not be sorry. He is the one supposed to be begging for forgiveness. He should be the one on his knees trying to make it up for her. But what is there to say? Everything has been done, and there is no turning back. He briefly wonders if the future is set. Perhaps not. A million choices, a million options, even a snap of the hand can change what is supposed to happen tomorrow.
He tries to think back to the chain of events. He goes through their dozens of dates and hundreds of times they saw each other just to hang out together. He remembers their fights, huge and small, and how they reconcile and decide to continue being together. Those days were the happy days. Somehow, some other way, something went wrong.
One heart fell out of love.
"You, too..." Percy manages, as he looks at her. He sees her bright smile, and oh, she is still trying to be cheerful for him. She still wishes the best for him. Percy feels like shit. Just what is he doing? Nothing. He does nothing. And for a while, he would do nothing except for focusing on himself. He can't keep doing this, he can't bear to see more tears--tears that he caused, trying to find home.
And he could tell Ling found her home with him. Ah, it's stupid. Fate is. Percy shakes his head. "I make people unhappy by trying to find my happiness in them. I can't keep doing that."
He stays there, in suspended silence, the heaviest silence he has ever experienced. He doesn't understand what possessed him, but suddenly he starts recounting their memories.
"Do you remember when we took a trip to Gale Valley? We went to a mission together to unearth a gem under a ton of mud. We were soooo filthy, but we were laughing. You even had the audacity to throw a mudball on me."

Shoot an apple off my head and a Trouble that can't be named A tiger's waiting to be tamed, singing Confusion that never stops The closing walls and the
She started this day really happy, y'know, where her biggest worry was not knowing what to wear for this date. She started this day with a heart full of stars and eyes to the sun, a loving boyfriend and a date to be had, happiness glowing in her veins and dreams to chase. And she still has most of them, still has her stars and the sun and her future to pursue, she knows this, knows that most relationships at her age aren't lasting ones, knows that this is normal, that this is one of the better case scenarios; she knows it intellectually, but it doesn't stop the hurt.
But she shoves it down and smiles through it anyway, because damn if she makes it worse for Percy, Percy who has his dream too, who didn't mean to end it this way either, Percy who looks at her with something like guilt or sadness, who deserves to be happy too. "Hey," she says, poking him in the arm even when her heart quakes; just because they're over, doesn't mean they can't be friends, right? "Hey, don't say that. We had good times while we were together, and just 'cause we're not meant to last, doesn't mean the happiness we had together was invalid. I don't regret it, y'know? 'Cause you're a good person, Percy, and I'm glad I got to know you."
She even manages a genuine laugh at the memory he brings up, shaky as it is. "That was ages ago, I can't believe you still remember." A small pause, a small sniff, and she looks up at the sky before looking back, turning to face him properly. "We've come a long way, haven't we," she says softly. Her face still feels wobbly, but her voice is clear, and she smiles at him with sun in her hair and shiny eyes. This time, it's a smile goodbye.
"I think I should go," she says, soft and light and bright, because she is certainly not going to burst into tears in front of Percy, he doesn't deserve that and neither does she. "Just- just keep chasing your dream, 'kay? I believe in you, Percy."
And in a swirl of skirts and afternoon sun, she's gone.

When he goes back to all of their memories, he can't help but smile. They were happy memories, the ones to cherish forever. It's a shame they couldn't continue it. But as Ling say her goodbye, Percy realizes he wouldn't have it any other way. Since when did the gap between grew this far?
He only nods in response--of course they would still be friends. And if Ling needs someone still, he would be there in a heartbeat. He would always be, whatever the circumstance. The time he spent with her, no minute of that was wasted. I mean, the boy was with the girl he loved. "Remember, I'm just here whenever you need me. Even if we walk separate paths," he braves to say to the maiden before him. Ling, who's trying hard not to let her voice quake.
When she said she should go, Percy nods. She told him to keep chasing his dreams, and he wishes her the same. He seems at a loss of words, wanting to say so much yet finding nothing to speak of. She stands up, and Percy stays seated on the bench. He looks up at her, like he always did. The girl is just amazing at everything she does, and that--that will never change.
She's the first one to go, only because Percy has let her go. He smiles one last time at her.
"Take care."
