The crowds keep raging on and on, still pushing away so they could get a good glimpse of what was happening. Emery's patience is wearing thin. She shoves the people away from her with great force to form a path for her to cross. This caused an uproar between the people; occasionally they would yell at her for shoving them off and creating a few messes, but she was getting irritated, so she paid those insults no heed. She had something to investigate and not even a curious cesspool of a crowd was going to interrupt her.

[break][break]There was an unconscious girl in the middle of the crowd, she could already see that, but that was it. One of the Knights tried to conjure some spell that was supposed to weaken something, but overall she wasn't paying any attention. The Knight was being shoved around again, but she managed to get her way through it once more.

[break][break]Then one of the Knights stepped in front of her and pointed his sword at her, and for a moment she was staring at the said Knight in disbelief. His eyes were unfocused and his face showed no emotion at all, remaining neutral. She heard people from nearby now mumbling to each other.

[break][break]"What's happening?"

[break][break]"Those two seem to be killing each other."

[break][break]"Are they enemies?"

[break][break]The mumbling crowds were starting to get unsettling, as well as the Knight in front of her. She whipped her head to the said Knight and grabbed the handle of her sword, but didn't unsheath it. She would only do so if the Knight was going to do something funny.

[break][break]"Hey." She whispered to the Knight, turning to the crowd with caution on her eyes. "H-Hey. What's wrong? Why're you doing this? If you're angry with me, just say something, okay? Don't pick up a fight here. It'll only frighten the crowd."

The seer was content remaining a safe distance away from the conflict and making no effort to intervene. He was convinced that this ordeal was well beyond his talents to pacify. But he would watch. After all, witnessing the world was his birthright and his curse.

"People are going to get hurt. Or worse..." his familiar whispers in his mind.

"Almost certainly," Desmond answers with cold finality.

Grendel does not bother to reply. Experience taught the spider that he could not sway the witch once he made up his mind like this, especially since they were already partly to blame for creating the hole in the street. Through inadvertent, it was still one of the unfortunate causes of this chaos and therefore a reason to avoid involving themselves further.

At most, the seer would likely retrieve Laurent from the edge of the hole in the street after the activity around there died down. He wasn't willing to take a sword to the gut or manipulative mana to the brain for the sake of the younger Silvertongue. Desmond had never been much of a hero, and decided years ago that things generally turned out better if he just worried about saving himself. Today's events further supported that theory.

Now that they had verbal confirmation from a specific person that something was really not right, Nic really wanted to go. "Come on, August," he urged once the Knight had stopped answering the young witch's question. August stood there for a moment to mull over what she had just been told. All over the city? She hadn't seen anything else strange on the way here. Maybe she had just been lucky previously and managed to avoid the other incidents? Even still, it was unsettling to here strange happenings like this were occurring elsewhere in the city. She had to wonder if her parents and the bakery were doing alright and whether or not they were out of harm's way.

Before being able to respond to either her familiar or the knight, the chaos grew. There were brawls breaking out in front of them now and August was having a difficult time understanding what was all happening. The knights were fighting citizens, but who was supposed to be the good guys was getting difficult to determine.

She took a step back when the knight erected the wall alongside the hole. She thought about turning around and leaving, but her foot hovered in place as she second guessed herself. "Please August, let's go," Nic begged. He was already turned around and had taken a few hops away from the maddness unfolding in front of them.

August made a whining noise of sorts before turning herself and following her familiar out of the area. Strange magic she could deal with, but now that there was actual fighting occurring, August knew she wouldn't stand much of a chance. Besides, with some of the knights acting weird, she wasn't sure if she entirely trusted the one she had just been speaking to either. He appeared trustworthy, but given how the others started acting who were closer to the hole, August had been hit with a wave of uneasiness she rarely ever felt.

The unhinged-looking Knight lunges at @emery, deaf to her attempts to resolve the situation nonviolently. There are too many people around to dodge. The only option, to avoid getting seriously wounded, was for her to draw her sword to block or parry.

But then, there is a shift in the scene, swift and unforeseen. The voice in the minds suddenly rises in pitch and volume, mutating into a hellish shriek, clawing at the witchs' skulls. And in that moment, that same moment when the other Knight's sword would have made impact...

Emery realizes that there is no other Knight.
[break][break]
The man whom, just a moment ago, looked as if he'd been about to strike her down, vanished from her awareness like a faded memory. If she were to think back on it, she would have realized that she didn't really know the man, but thought it might have seen around the Knights' Hall in passing. Or maybe he just had one of those familiar-looking faces, with nothing particularly noteworthy about it.

Desmond Grey and august carter, who had been standing at a distance, merely would have seen Emery begin to draw her sword at nothing in particular. Luckily for this Helios Knight, her actions were not the focus of everyone's attention, because when the scream stops just as suddenly as it started, she is not the only one who sees a change in their surroundings. The other Knights who'd joined the fray, as well as many of the civilians, were overcome by a shocked expression at best, or a terrified expression at worst if they'd seriously injured someone.

The silence only last a few moments, broken by a scream: "Medic! We need a medic!" Unlike the voice from before, this voice of a civilian in the crowd was very real.

Emery, among others in her coven, would be asked by her superiors to report on what she experienced that day. Even with so many eye witnesses, however, a formal statement would not be released for a few days, and even then only mentioned the acts of "deceptive magic" vaguely.

The most seriously injured civilians were brought to the hospital. Among them were laurent borchardt and lynnelia arnett, each with some sort of broken bones due to their fall down the collapsed hole in the road. The worst of the victims, though, were those who'd been stabbed by one of the deceived Knights. eira vadén lucked out in the fact that she only received some bruising from being stepped on... and lost that mysterious trinket that had at one point fallen into her possession, but that seemed like a petty complaint compared to the fates of some of the others.

Due to the chaos of the day, august carter, Hazel Halcyon, and Desmond Grey are able to slip away without being asked for a witness statement. However, there are some Knights on the lookout for a "giant, skull-covered spider" due to its potential involvement in the case.

Apparently, talking to the Knight wasn't helping matters.

[break][break]So was standing there and doing nothing about it.

[break][break]The crowds were starting to gather more, making it quite hard to breathe. Suddenly her vision spun, and her head was hurting, but she could still manage to stand and stare back at the oblivious Knight in front of her. He won't talk, so fine. Looks like they were going to have to do this the hard way.

[break][break]And then the Knight raises his sword, preparing to finish her with one blow. Surprised at this manner, she flinched and hurriedly unsheathed her sword, blocking the other sword from slicing her in half.

[break][break]Then she begins to grow dizzy and the things she was seeing was starting to fade away into a blurry painting. The pain floods her whole mind, and, letting go of her sword by instinct, she starts to hold her head once she hears ear-deafening screams. Emery doesn't know what to do anymore, everything was so unclear, so hard to even think about... she closes her eyes and tries to think, but no thoughts come. Only blankness...

[break][break]...When she opens her eyes, and looks up, the other man is gone.

[break][break]If she were to think about it, she hasn't really seen that Knight before. Might have seen him around the Helios Knights hall, but overall he wasn't anyone important. Might not be.

[break][break]But really... the Knight wasn't anywhere to be found.

[break][break]Emery holds her head and rubs it with two fingers, eyes wide and staring at the sword on the ground. What did she just do back then? Was she protecting herself from... something? Something that doesn't even exist?

[break][break]All this confusion is starting to make her go crazy.

[break][break]However, her thoughts were disrupted when someone tapped her on the shoulder. She shifted her head a bit, and through the corners of her eyes she could see another Knight -- a real one this time, someone she and others could see -- staring at her with worry filling their eyes. Screams and calls for medics resounded around the area, the strange whispers had gone, and nothing was happening anymore.

[break][break]The Knight speaks with worry filling their voice.

[break][break]"Hey, Emery... are you alright?"

[break][break]...She wasn't really sure how to reply to that, but as she kneels to pick her sword and sheath it back, she leaves a few seconds of silence before turning to the other Knight with an unsure nod.

[break][break]"...Yeah. Yeah... I'm fine."

[break][break]

[break][break]The next day, Emery received a message from the Helios Knights telling them to report what had happened just yesterday when the accident had happened. She wasn't really in the mood, and she was still startled about what she had witnessed before she even got home to rest, but... she was talking about the coven here. She couldn't fail her superiors right now. Besides, she was only ever rarely called whenever there was something important going on. So it was a good thing that her superiors are finally paying attention to her.

[break][break]As she was prepared to leave to give her report, her familiar, Rogue, was still ranting about not going. He had said that they should understand the "hardships" she had been through that day, and all Emery could do was roll her eyes and listen in. Rogue was always like this, loyal yet too paranoid for Emery to even try to calm down.

[break][break]In the end though, they ended up agreeing to terms that Emery should go. But Rogue was still worried.

[break][break]She'd already assured him enough.

[break][break]But really, Em... are you sure you're going?

[break][break]"...I'll be fine, Rogue."
