this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.
he was ready to die, but he did not plan on dying, he planned on living, and he planned on doing great things while he did.
“The only crush I have is the crushing weight of my existence.”
Melvin looked at Diya with an inscrutible expression.
"Sir I don't think that's true."
Diya sighed dramatically, fixing the crop top he was wearing down and adjusting his witch hat uncomfortably.
"Listen, kid, crushes are....kinda lame. Love in general? Good but lame at the same time. Just, listen now, stick to what you think is right I guess? I'm not good with love advice."
The two had been talking about a crush Melvin had for a while now. Some kid in his school older than him with straight thick hair and killer eyebrows. Diya poked his tongue through the slight gap in his front teeth as he considered what to say next, but felt relieved when they approached the apothecary.
Melvin was distracted immediately and it gave Diya an excuse to depart from his son's side to look around. He needed a few things here and there and soon was juggling a few jars, catching Melvin's attention and stepping aroud the boy, handing him some of the jars in his arms.
They did this dance for a while, skirting around the entire store until their arms were precariously full. Diya set the things on the counter at the back of the store, expertly adjusting everything to fit from his own arms and Melvin's. He made nice conversation with the attendant and smiled brightly as his things were wrapped up and placed neatly into paper bags.
Grabbing them he and Melvin made their way toward the front of the store, weaving between people and continuing (to Diya's despair) the conversation.
"I just, Sir what do I do?"
"We can start by you stopping calling me sir? I told you, you can call me whatever you want."
Diya brushed by someone, adjusting his shoulder but in the wrong place. He bumped into the stranger and sent the jar in their hands to the floor, blinking as powder spilled all over the floor.
And here comes yet another boring day for a certain witch.
The light-haired witch strolls around Downtown Sundial, looking around for any signs of fun to be with. She was in a bad mood, and always walking around with no clue where to go was definitely annoying. She should be out of this place, fighting monsters or bad guys! She should be talking to other witches near here! She shouldn't be out here buying whatever to kill her time!
Obelisk, though, needs food, She suddenly thought to herself. A sigh escapes her lips once she remembers why she was out of here in the first place. Argh! Who am I kidding? I've gotta buy some food for Obby! He'll be hungrier than a hippo, that's for sure!
The downtown was crowded with so many people, as usual. Jelly looked around the stalls, trying to see if there were any pet food out here. Was there sea bunny food, she wondered? Regardless, she kept prancing around, and while occasionally bumping with people because of the tight spaces they were in, she managed to get to the other stalls safe and sound.
The witch shook her head as she tried to remember some things. What does Obelisk eat...? Oh, right. Carrots. Carrot bits. She told herself, a smile of determination suddenly appearing from her face. She started to make her way towards the vegetables stall, about a hundred steps away from her right from her spot. For Jelly, it was only right for Obelisk to like carrots. He was a sea bunny, after all--
Someone brushed against her shoulder, almost making her trip over her step.
The girl looked around, blinking. Who was that just now? Scanning the area, she tried to see who the culprit to her almost tripping was.
She didn't need to ask twice.
A man was bent over the floor, trying to salvage the contents of some jars that are apparently now toppled over. She assumed it was his jars, and he bumped into her which sent those into a frenzy. There was a boy, too, a younger one. Perhaps his son, or nephew, or just a random boy coming over with him?
Deciding to help, she ran over to him and helped him with things. Jelly wasn't the type of girl to just leave someone in a quite difficult situation. A few minutes pass by and she was done helping him. The girl stood up and brushed the dust against her clothes, then turns to face the man.
Here, post from a jello X3 and let's just say she thought Diya was the one who bumped up to her, considering the guy bumped on someone else too, not Jelly XD
he was ready to die, but he did not plan on dying, he planned on living, and he planned on doing great things while he did.
Someone approached them and just like, started helping clean up? Which was weird for where they were, honestly, considering the guy who Diya had bumped into had muttered something under his breath then fucking skedaddled before repercussions could be pinned on him. Diya rolled his eyes as Melvin hovered nearby nervously, but once she approached everything went much faster.
Diya smiled at her in the friendliest way possible, dusting off his hands and standing back up, towering over her slightly.
"Hail and well met friend! I'm Diya, this is my son Melvin, thanks for helping me clean that up."
He inspected his nails for a moment, satisfied that the paint wasn't chipped, then glanced back at her when she asked her question.
"Nope! Nothing Diya can't handle."
"Sir, should we pay for that...?"
"Nonsense Melvin we didn't drop it."
Diya waved a hand dismissively and shrugged as Melvin looked on helplessly, arms heavy with bags.
Well, that went well. She was glad that the guy wasn't hurt or anything, nor is his son. Jelly perked head over to the young boy, then turned back to the man and smiled. "Well, glad I can help in some matters," She stated, the smile still there. She wouldn't tell him that he bumped on her... not yet. For starters, she knew that strangers aren't really good people to accuse mistakes on. Especially if they hadn't really done something bad to you, i.e. bump into you accidentally.
Jelly nodded at both of the people in front of her. First things first: She has to start with asking the man's name. The light haired witch takes a deep breath, before finally turning to him with a curious look on her face. "Ah, so it is Diya. And the young boy, Melvin. Very nice to meet you." She asked, then turned to the boy whose name is Melvin. "That's good. My name is Jelly Parim, a witch from the Coven Leviathan. I would like to remember some names before I leave to fetch some food for my familiar."
A sudden thought occurred to her then as she said that. Walking around Downtown Sundial with some company would be nice, and can develop a good friendship between mere acquaintances. Holding a finger up, she began to suggest something. "Oh, where will you be heading next? I'm still going off to find some food for my familiar, but other than that, I will be going home after this, that is unless I could think of more errands to attend to. Would you like me to accompany you in your endeavors as well?"
She wouldn't be shocked if he refused to answer any of her question and would disagree to her suggestion. They were still technically strangers to each other, after all, and one wouldn't suddenly come and say yes to the suggestions of a stranger. She hoped that it would turn the other way around, though. The guy seemed nice, as well as the boy, and it would be cool to have someone to talk to until the end of the day.
Instead of saying something, though, she waited for his response.
he was ready to die, but he did not plan on dying, he planned on living, and he planned on doing great things while he did.
Leviathan eh? Diya grinned at Melvin who seemed to blink owlishly at Jelly. Melvin seemed a little at loss for words with her being so just....open about her coven. Diya playfully pinched his cheek and the small lad jumped a bit, looking at his parental figure helplessly.
"See? Told you we didn't need to hide it."
Diya waved a hand in the air and grinned at Jelly in pure delight.
"I'm in Jester's Den. Melvin likes to pretend that I'm cooler than that though sometimes."
Diya winked and Melvin sputtered uselessly, trying to portray that he wasn't ashamed of Diya's choice in coven. With a look of exasperation, Melvin fell silent as Diya ignored him in favor of his curiosity.
"Oh? What kind of familiar do you have?"
Diya leaned forward just barely, hands clasped behind his back. Oh, she wanted to accompany them during their shopping? Diya tilted his head and readjusted the hat on his head, considering his options. He could say no, but what was the fun in all that?
"Absolutely! Maybe you can help us with a problem we're having. See Melvin here has a crush on a student that goes to his school, killer eyebrows I hear. He needs some advice."
Diya waved a hand and some of the bags compacted into smaller bundles magically, easier to carry and leaving their arms less heavy than before.
Jester's Den, hmm? Interesting. She never really thought of bumping into a witch from the Jester's Den coven, but here she was. It was interesting to know more about these witches. She heard they are always fun to be with. She smiled and nodded at Diya, then to Melvin. "Interesting. I never really thought I'd bump into someone from the Jester's Den coven."
A small chuckle escaped her lips once she saw Melvin stuttering to himself. He was trying to say something, she observed, but seemed to go against it too. Then she was asked what kind of familiar she had. "Oh, my familiar is one of the most unusual, yet the most lovable. He's a jorunna parva, or sea bunny. They're like little black and white slugs with what looks like bunny ear appendages in them. Have you ever heard of sea bunnies, Diya?"
A wide grin spreads across her face once Diya agrees to have her in their trip through the marketplace. "Sure thing! I'll come with you!" She says enthusiastically. Walking next to Melvin, she heard Diya speak about a girl his son is having a crush on, with killer eyebrows. Now Jelly wasn't really one for romance, as she hasn't really been into relationships before, but she can still give out some tips on how to win a girl's (or boy's) heart. She was a girl too, after all.
Jelly grinned and kneeled in front of Melvin, face to face with the young boy. "So, you've got a crush on this girl, eh?" She asked Melvin, with a smile on her face. "Tell me, what does she look like? And for you, what do you see in her that makes her special?"
he was ready to die, but he did not plan on dying, he planned on living, and he planned on doing great things while he did.
"Well lucky for you, you met the best member of Jester's Den."
Diya cackled as Melvin rolled his eyes, and the two seemed so perfectly in sync at that moment that it was a wonder they weren't actually related.
A sea bunny? Diya made a face, he'd never seen one but it sounded like it was going to be really weird. Melvin smiled though and pushed his glasses up on his face, tugging on Diya's skirt.
"A sea bunny is actually really cool, I promise."
Diya hummed thoughtfully and crossed his arms as he began to walk once she confirmed she'd join them. At the mention of the classmate, Melvin sputtered, before sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck.
"Err, well, not a girl per se...."
"This kiddo took gender and tossed it out the window. They use they/them pronouns and everything. Great kid from what I hear."
Diya piped up and smiled encouragingly. Melvin took a deep breath and kept pace with Diya with a bit of difficulty (after all Diya was incredibly tall and had incredibly long strides) before continuing on.
"They uh....they have dark hair and purple eyes..."
"Sounds stellar."
Diya piped up, grinning as Melvin groaned.
"And well..they're so....confident! They just - they know what they want and they know how to get it! They're so cool!"
Melvin gushed.

The Leviathan witch chuckles heartily at the statement. Best witch in Jester's Den, eh? She would have to test that, if she had the time. But for now, all she still needs to do is walk with them in the marketplace. She knew it wouldn't be a boring walk, just to stroll around with them.
When she told him what type of familiar Jelly had, she caught a look from him that clearly said he was quite confused as to what that was, but then Melvin told him that sea bunnies are actually pretty cool, even promising to Diya on it. So the young boy knows what sea bunnies are. She smiled, glad to know she wasn't the only one to know about such a bizarre animal. "Seems you know my familiar's species well, Melvin." She said. "Would you like me to show you my familiar once -- if -- we cross paths again?"
Then came the topic about the girl. The talk of the town. When she had asked him about it, Melvin suddenly scratched the back of his neck and told her that that person wasn't a girl. Wait, what? So Melvin had a crush on a boy, perhaps? For a second she thought of it that way, before Diya then confirmed another conclusion before she can stick to it. Well, that was a relief. She certainly didn't want Melvin to end up gay, if she does say so herself. But still, there was still confusion. Using they/them pronouns...
"Hmm... quite the person she is, eh? Using they/them pronouns? Not saying it isn't unusual, cuz some people act like that too, but I didn't really expect that."
Then the boy started describing this person, and Diya remarked them as stellar. Jelly smiled and nodded. "Yep, I can agree with that. She sounds pretty awesome enough to me, too."
Then Melvin continued to ramble on about how confident they were, how they got everything they wanted, etc... and he put in the end that they were cool. Jelly grinned and turned to Melvin. "Yeah, great person. I can tell why you like them." She commented, before continuing. "Listen, you gotta act confident of yourself, too. Not too confident as that would make you be full of yourself, but not too low in confidence that you'd end up hiding in the corner to not show off your abilities or something like that. What I'm saying is, you gotta be confident enough to tell them about your feelings. You don't have to rush yourself, just take it nice and easy at first, then tell them when the right time comes. Don't rush the process, too. Like I said, take it nice and easy. You can tell them your feelings once the right time comes. Like, just tell them that you've got a crush on them for -- whatever time -- but like I said, no rushing. But then, I'm not telling you to just listen to me like that. I might be wrong."
...Was she even doing this right, or was she just babbling to herself?
