this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.
She's very glad that he's laughing now. Matteo doesn't seem to be trying to hold back his laughter anymore, either, which is a very good sign. "Truly, you will?" she brightens up at this small but meaningful promise. It means he's willing to put up with her in the future, that he's willing to become her friend, that she's going to get another chance to pull him over to her coven. "I will hold you up to that promise, then. No backing down, now, Matteo."
Vera thinks she can hear a bout of disappointment from him, though why she cannot begin to fathom. She tilts her head, pensive, as she says, "I'm never too busy for my friends, though." If Matteo ever felt lonely or sad, she wouldn't hesitate to come to his side anytime. If that was even what he was worried about. She really didn't understand what was going on in his mind, but made sure to squeeze his hand in encouragement.
"Besides, most days I only have one or two classes in the morning. Really, do feel free to send me a pigeon letter anytime."
Matteo sounds quite interested in her chocolate-making hobby, which returns a smile to Vera's freckled face. She nods, clearly partial to the idea of bringing him chocolate. "Consider it done." After all, he had offered to help her with what he was good at; it made sense for her to reply in kind. "Do you have any flavor you prefer, or would you be willing to try a few new recipes of mine?" Besides, she just loved cooking all sorts of experimental goodies for her friends and family to try.
There's a soft tug at her arm that Vera's rather tempted to slap for interrupting their conversation, until she realizes it's actually Matteo being eager about this tour she promised him. So eager his eyes were actually twinkling. "Oh. Oh! Right. Sorry, let's get going," she says, and she has to look away from him because the sight is too endearing. She steps forward into the large entrance hall. A giant version of Vera's Knight's Crest greets them immediately upon stepping foot in it. "This is the Hall's... main hall, I guess? Ironic play of words, I know."
Light shines down on it across a set of beautiful stained glass windows on each side of the room, while two imposing sets of staircases as pristine white as marble lie at the very back. "Not much to see here, actually. Unless you're really into stained glass. Most of the fun happens upstairs—Do you see those twin staircases? The one to the right leads up to a conference room and a bunch of administrative offices I've actually never gone into." Vera pays this part of the tour little mind, as she leads Matteo to the other staircase.
"This is my favorite place in the entire Hall. We spend a lot of our stay here in this room I'm about to show you," she tells him as they make their way up.
Finally, after climbing up a very long set of stairs, they finally reach a reception room filled with velvet cushioned chairs, the same bright red from the coats of the Knights occupying them; white coffee tables sprayed here and there, some holding drinks and others scrolls and books and plumes and a wide variety of magical objects; even more statues; and a small, curtained stage. "Isn't it lovely?" After a dreamy sigh, her eyes are settled on Matteo, waiting expectantly for his reaction.

There's a rush of happiness and he can feel himself smiling - oh, they're now most definitely friends, are they? He can't deny he's happy to make a new friend so quickly. She gives his hand a squeeze, almost as if to solidify the fact, and his smile widens. "Of course," he says in response to her offer. "And the same goes to you."[break][break] He watches as a smile flits over Vera's features at the mention of her chocolate. He's hungry to try, and the prospect of new and innovative delicious flavors wins him over entirely. "I'm always up for new things," he says. "Though I do quite like chili chocolate." He vaguely gives the thought that perhaps the two of them are quite alike some notice - they both enjoy new things, obviously, as she's willing to try new recipes. And he his inventions.[break][break] Before him looms a much larger version of the Knight's crest he's seen before, fleetingly, on the streets on passerby. It's a beautiful ornate thing, and far larger than he would've originally imagined it to be, if he'd known it to be here at all. The stained glass is breathtaking - it's intricate and so seemingly perfect, with all the colors blending together seamlessly, creating an array of multi-colored lights. He wonders if it's due to some enchantment or whether it's an illusion - it seems too beautiful to be true. He scans for that puck's flaw that's rumored to be in illusions, but he can't find one.[break][break] The twin staircases are in perfect symmetry, hence their name, he supposes wryly. As they climb, he brushes his hand on the marble - it's cool to the touch and smooth as can be. The architecture here is absolutely amazing, he thinks as he admires the carefully cut stone.[break][break] The room that greets them at the top is stunning in its size and its luxury - plush crimson couches, tables for drinks, marble statues...the list goes on and on. Matteo's eyes are wide as he takes it all in, and he barely registers Vera's words as he stares in amazement. "Lovely indeed," he echoes back in an awed whisper. He sees a woman pass by with a piping hot drink, and it looks like a lovely hot chocolate. He's reminded of the Sun Cafe, except this place is on another level of luxury. It speaks of mountains of money and resources, and for a moment, he thinks to his more humble origins. Is this where all their tax money goes? He feels a brief flare of anger, but it's quickly abated - this is just how the world works. Always has been. And Matteo accepted this fact a long time ago.[break][break] He points to what seems to be a stage at the far end. "What's that used for?" he asks, genuinely curious. Then he adds on his real question: "Also, where can I get me a drink? That looks delicious," he says, nodding towards the direction of the woman who just passed.
Few things were better than having one's feelings returned. To Vera, that was what Matteo had just done by agreeing to exchanging letters with her. Mind you, these feelings were of friendship only, but they felt just as pleasing as she imagined romantic feelings being returned to be. Not that she knew much of that; she had little time for romance between classes, research, helping out at the family business, and her missions as a Knight. A busybody, that she was.
"I wouldn't say that unless I was prepared to receive twenty letters a day," she jokes. Or not really, no. She had once managed to send that many to Alric, when she refused to open the door to her apartment for the brunette. It was entirely possible given enough motivation.
"Chili, huh? You've a brave soul." Spicy chocolate was one flavor she had yet to try making. Her family members had never been quite fond of spicy food. It sounds like a challenge, though, she has to admit. "I'll make sure to bring you some whenever I receive an invitation to that shop of yours," she offers.
Her tour takes the pair up into the reception room, where their mission board just so happens to be, and Matteo seems transfixed the most at the promise of hot chocolate, which has Vera laughing again. "There's a self-service bar at the back, through that door over there," she answers, addressing the question of clear highest priority. "Come on, I'll take you there." Vera takes Matteo's arm once again, before he can even protest, and leads him towards the double doors as she answers his other inquiry.
I couldn't get enough, so I had to self destruct, The heat was on, rising to the top Everybody's goin' strong That is when my spark got hot I heard somebody say Burn baby burn! Disco inferno!
[attr="class","jarburnbbrp"]
Matteo gives an easy laugh at Vera's joke. "Don't worry," he reassures her. "I won't barrage you with quite so many letters."[break][break] Probably more because he lacks enough paper to send off that many, and in any instance, it's poor etiquette to send so many. He doubts he'll have that much to say, anyway. But he'll send her those letters he's promised.[break][break] At Vera's offer, Matteo visibly brightens. He loves chocolate. Absolutely adores the stuff. "Please do," he says, and the desperation for chocolate is badly concealed in his voice. "And thank you in advance."[break][break] Her laugh really is quite a pretty one. Matteo's reflects on his own style of laughter - it's not bubbly or anything. More like a loud, noisy guffaw with several squeals in between as he tries to catch his breath. He frowns at the thought - is it possible to change one's laughter? He's not sure.[break][break] The mention of the self-service bar perks him right up, and he follows her obediently as she loops her arm through his and pulls him towards it. They barge through double-doors of elegant mahogany - how he knows this, he's not sure, but the wood looks like it could be called mahogany. And the designs - dang, how on earth did anyone carve those? There are petals upon leaves and flowers upon branches, ivy-like vines twisting their way in and out of the wood. It's absolutely magnificent, and he would've loved to ogle it more had the self-service bar hadn't appeared in view.[break][break] So, of course, he started making himself a big cup of hot chocolate. He didn't stop there - he grabbed several cookies that were available and began chomping down. Man, this place was nuts! Yes, the Sun Cafe obviously had its own food, but this place was so goddamn posh. [break][break] "The performances," he says around his cookie, "Are amazing. You have to come see one sometime. Heck, I'll even take you." He takes another bite of his cookie. It's only fair if he shows her to one of the Jester performances at the Cafe. Or even the juggler, maybe. She's done quite a lot for him today, and he fully intends on paying her back.[break][break] Still, he can't shake off that jealousy that comes with envy for riches. He's not from a wealthy household, and while they fare all right, they don't exactly have the most comfortable lifestyle, either. Their money seems to go and funnel straight into self-serve hot chocolate and cookies rather than better living conditions. Matteo takes another two cookies without an ounce of regret.[break][break] This lounge area is just as impressive as the other, and though the room is smaller, the polish of the wood and the quality of the couches is no less ornate. The red velvet carpet follows along the room floor, past more stained-glass windows, and towards another set of doors. These ones, however, look far larger than the others, taking up nearly the entire wall. It's massive, and after quick scrutiny, Matteo can see that there's a sign that reads 'Library'. A grin quirks on his face, and he points to the door, his excitement palpable.[break][break] "Are we allowed to go in there? Pretty please?" he asks. This day has just been getting better and better, and though he honestly isn't a bookworm, there's no denying that he loves new knowledge.
Matteo goes straight for the hot chocolate. If Vera hadn't been clued in on his love for chocolate in their conversation, this action sure would leave no place for doubt. She lingers by the table as he takes one of the bigger mugs available and starts to fill it in with the delicious liquid. She notices the cookies, too. If she has anything to say to Matteo's seemingly bottomless appetite, she chooses to keep it to herself. Instead, she focuses on his verdict regarding Jester's Den's performances. "Really?!" she asks, hands clasped together in excitement.
"Please do. I'd love to see one. Just give me a date, and I'll be there. I'll even bring some chocolate." Surely, chocolate would be able to convince him of anything. "Oh, should I dress up for this? What kind of costume should I take?" Her mind's too busy fantasizing about the moment to realize Matteo's attention has been caught by another set of doors. A particular set of doors she herself had crossed a reduced number of times.
He really wants to go in, comments Fondue. Vera can see that, too. She frowns, reluctance for once keeping her from diving right into whatever was suggested.
She stares into Matteo's eager grin, and she honestly can't bring herself to say no. "Um... maybe?" she says instead. She doubts it'll take him much more to run for the door, but there are conditions she must ask of him before they actually go in. "Ah! We can't take any food inside, though, obviously, and also most sections are off-limits, so don't be disappointed if we end up having to look at the many history books in the first few aisles."
Different areas of the library were restricted according to rank, and some weren't really restricted but required a formal permit in order to read or take books from them. In the end, Vera preferred checking out the Sundial Library, or Lux University's own, when research was needed. It sounded silly now that Vera thought about it, but she was so used to this arrangement by now, and didn't question it. Not that she had reason to look for books inside the Knights' Hall, anyway.

Matteo nods eagerly as he sips his drink. "Yeah totally!" he replies, flashing her a large grin. "There's one happening in two weeks' time - I think it's something like a rendition of A Midsummer Night's Dream? I don't think you'd need a costume," he says, though a sly grin snakes across his face. "You're welcome to, if you'd like."[break][break] He's ecstatic that he'll be bringing a pretty girl with him, and that she'll also be bringing chocolates. One couldn't say it was impossible to bribe Matteo Garcia. Plus, he'd love to show her something of the Jester's Den in return for her showing him the Helios Knights headquarters.[break][break] Matteo's smile dims a fraction when he hears he has to finish off his food and drink. Of course. No library would allow one to bring in beverages and food. It'd ruin the books. He'd gotten so used to eating in his workshop and handling his notebooks and things that he'd not really thought of this. He quickly polishes off his drink and snacks, undaunted, and sets the mug down in its proper 'dirty dishes' tray.[break][break] "No matter," he says to Vera, grinning. "I'd still like a look. We can ridicule Sir Cornelius Grunting the Third later or something." He didn't know if there even was a Cornelius Grunting the Third that had ever existed, but he didn't care. He just wanted to elicit a laugh before he pushed open the Library doors.
