this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.
Sometimes it's hard to learn from all your mistakes
Percy was having the time of his life. In the zone he was attacking monsters left and right, mostly with his fists. He found that they weren't exactly the strongest of things, vanishing into clouds of shadow and dust at each turn when contact was made. So he kept punching, and channeling his abilities to hopefully gain the courage to use them. But he was nervous, as he typically was, because of his element. He was a hero for god's sake! Someone who used his powers for good and here he was with the element of darkness on his side!
He refused to use it honestly.
Suddenly one much large monster shadowed him, and a sinking feeling overcame him. The monster swung its arm and Percy flew, something he thought he'd never accomplish. He hit a wall hard and not only heard, but felt, a loud crack before pain enveloped his left arm. He slid down in what felt like slow motion and looked around in a daze, glancing at the hole in the sky. He heard the booming voice but it rolled off him like water under a bridge. The monster approached, prepared to make a final blow, and Percy really really needed to use something for once. To be a hero for once.
He stood up, storing energy. His skin crawled, and he tried to use his techniques but found himself.....unable. The mental block between his abilties and mental faculties was too diluted, and he stood helplessly as the monster raised an arm...
tl;dr someone save percy? hes facing something big with a broken arm
It seemed everyone had had a chance to beat up some monsters besides him, but there was still a chance to make this better. Hawk knew he had to find a way to contribute, to do something with his limited abilities; the monsters didn't seem to be casting spells, but preferring more physical methods, and the purifier had no advantage against that. But when his eyes landed on a knight who had been clearly injured - in fact, a broken arm - he knew he had a chance to help, however small.
"Hold tight!" he called out, approaching quickly and standing in front of Percy as he cast a healing spring over him.
"It won't cure it," he warned, glancing over his shoulders at the fellow witch, "but it should help the pain!"
He wasn't skilled enough to mend serious wounds, not yet. One day he would get there. But at least if the pain was subdued for the red-haired witch, perhaps he could get up and continue to fight, or at least... not faint from pain. Beau was there of course, and the river dolphin squawked at the monster, revealing rows upon rows of black teeth.
Hawk waited, and stood strong against the monster, and despite his smaller stature he held himself with such confidence that the beast, for at least a moment, hesitated in its attack. He shot more water at its face, but knew, in the moment, that time was running out. It seemed to be a matter of luck.

notes: casts a healing spring on perseus to stem the pain, uses creation to shoot some water at big monster fella
A really sketchy boy was getting dangerously close to Ling. From this distance, Vera couldn't make out his features and couldn't be sure of what exactly was going on, but him appearing out of nowhere, and then approaching the younger girl so sneakily, was the sketchiest thing that had happened in all the two minutes that had passed since the rupture first appeared above their heads.
So, obviously, Vera was left with the decision of waiting until she was close enough to properly inspect the situation, or subduing him immediately. It was an easy decision to make. With how worried she'd been in the last half minute she'd been away, Vera didn't think there was any room for question.
Restraining items were out of the way: she owned none. On the other hand, the few potions she had on her—largely because she'd brewed them mere hours earlier and had yet to put them away—were far too unreliable. They could easily harm Ling, on top of her target.
Sheerfire Dust for a good old explosion, or a pretty light so bright it would distract them?
Neither would have been her top choice, although at least the latter wouldn't physically harm her friend. Neither was her choice, in the end.
Her element was fire. She felt most at ease controlling it. Fire was somewhere deep within her even when mana wasn't. Fire was what she called upon—Fire, and her familiar. From where she stood, her range wasn't about to reach anywhere near the stranger. But Fondue, her familiar, was fast. Faster. He could shorten the distance and surround the boy in a thin wall of fire. Tall enough to keep him in check, thin enough to avoid accidentally harming anyone else.
"Get away from her!" Vera warned, completely unaware of the spectacle being put on in the skies, offered by none other than Jester's Den's own leader. She couldn't hear him, after all; how could she have known?

the voice that rings out from the sky makes him turn so quickly his neck protests immediately, but the flood of relief is almost worth it. when he turns back, the fallen witch is gone; he catches the barest hints of black smoke vanishing, and his jaw slackens imperceptibly, held together only by well-trained composure. hamster is less composed, snapping at thin air, looking as disgruntled as a giant coyote can be. his grip on the rope -- clothesline, he reminds himself guiltily -- loosens, then tigtens, because he can still here the growl of remaining monsters on the ground. the lack of reply from ashanti is troubling, but the growling ( and a loud thud ) from what seems like the street not to far away is more so.
the decision is swift, nevermind how it coils and sits heavily in his stomach. truth be told, hamster seals the choice for him, hurdling the fence once more and sprinting to the source of the sound. 'ashanti,' comes the fading yell, 'we're gonna be the next street down!' likely a poor choice of parting words, but he doesn't know if the knight catches them anyway. all he does is cling on for dear life ( giant coyotes, he reminds himself again, are not the prime choice for mounts. that's why there are horses. ). then he sees what hamster is charging towards, and he starts screaming.
it's likely an odd sight. to the witches there, they probably hear him before they see the pair: a giant coyote running full tilt towards a large monster, and on the coyote's back, a witch with his eyes squeezed shut, apparently doing his best imitation of a kamikaze pterodactyl, complete with screeching.
monster turns a tad too late, distracted by a water witch and his dolphin familiar: they collide head-on, hamster snarling, elih shrieking, monster roaring. there's no elemental finesse to the attack, despite what elih's slighter build would suggest about a preference for keeping his distance in combat. the bulldozer rush is enough to grant the witch wings -- temporary, invisible wings that disippate after a split second, and he hits the ground and rolls.
since the rupture began, two and half minutes have passed. [break][break]Then, by the help of a little speaker-charm, there was a booming voice over the sudden shower of fireworks.[break][break] “Testing…AHEM. and so our protagonist valiantly charged into the sky-” in the far far distance, Valerus had hit was appeared to be a pole and seemed to be in a downward spiral, “and vanquished the terror in the hearts of the people.”[break][break] Upon that being said, the remnants of the illusion would finally shatter, people finding themselves back to reality a few steps away from where they thought they had been-- injuries caused by the illusion would mostly disappear, though different people found themselves in different circumstances. [break][break] “Happy Joker’s Jamboree! May there be everlasting peace in Sundial for now and evermore, and please give it up for Valerus Blaze!”[break][break] The was a loud mass of a cheering (and equal amount of distraught groaning from those residential area regulars that dealt with these stunts yearly) as confetti lined the sky. Valerus himself was nowhere to be seen.[break][break] “A thank you to the various members of the Helios knights for sponsoring this, to the co-operating witches and jesters, and for you lively participation.”[break][break] An enormous flock of messenger pigeons would be released, each dropping invitations from the sky. For a moment the sky would turn to colors of light gray and white as the birds flew over, the stunning display demanding a little bit of awe even from the most dejected. Vivid blue and silver invitation cards would drop down like comically large droplets of water.[break][break] “Please do join us for the final day of celebrations in the Starshow tomorrow, the announcement of prizes, a year-overview and the handing over of the Master Trickster award.”

[attr="class","stafftempitem"]TRANSFIGURATION: SKIN TO BONE For a short amount of time, this scroll can grant the caster an ability to produce a layer of bone on their body (or someone else’s), useful for quick attacks or simple shielding.
[attr="class","stafftempitem"]ILLUSION: NIGHTMARE CHRONICLES SCROLL #2 This scroll gives the witch knowledge on the manipulation of pain. By creating an illusion of a painful event (such as a knife, falling rocks, or others) the witch can inflict however much pain that the victim believes they would feel. It can only be used against up to one opponent, and depends on the psyche of the victim. If the victim is successful in “blocking” the illusion (thinks that they were not harmed by the illusion), they need not feel any pain at all.
[attr="class","stafftempitem"]ENCHANTERS - MANA MARK A witch can mark out an item using this. By giving the mana within the substance a unique shape, the witch will be able to track and distinguish this object. However, when the witch gives the same mark on two similar objects, changes observed in one may be observed in the other for unique communication between teams of witches. This bit of evocation was the first step to building coven trinkets. Not usable on living beings.
[attr="class","stafftempitem"]ALCHEMY - VIAL OF THE HYACINTH Allows the witch to recover from physical injuries or give to other witches to do the same. Minor wounds are completely healed, and progress is shown on moderate wounds. Major wounds or limb loss, however, can not be treated. This recipe seems to have existed since the dawn of time and alchemy.
[attr="class","stafftempitem"]SUMMONING - HOMOCAST Homocast is the ability to summon the witch’s familiar’s base form. If the familiar was a gigantic goldfish, for example, this scroll would be able to summon an ordinary goldfish. Except, of course, with magical properties. The summoned animal would be able to completely understand and be mostly under the control of the witch and move large distances and carry out different tasks. The duration of the summon depends on the skill of the witch, with fledglings barely managing more than a couple seconds.
[attr="class","stafftempitem"]AUGMENTATION - ELEMENTAL SUPPLEMENTATION (DARKNESS) Thane dedicates a section of his grimoire to enhancing the potency of the elements. Despite having a general common method, since all different properties are enhances (thickness and strength of darkness, heat and intensity of fire, intensity of light, etc) he goes on to make different scrolls for each element. This one helps the augmenter enhance darkness
[attr="class","stafftempitem"]PURIFICATION - CLEAR SIGHT VOL 2 this details how to sense and understand basic charms and hexes, enabling the practitioner to have a more-than-just-fundamental knowledge on enchantment and its applications. Experts can instantly identify what type of magical properties have been added on what kind of items, and make guesses regarding charms they haven’t seen before. The same knowledge can be applied to Augmentation easily, but may be more difficult regarding Runescripting.
[attr="class","stafftempitem"]RUNESCRIPTING - 100 MOST USEFUL RUNES part of the '100 most useful runes' scrollbook, it is an ancient but still highly applicable scrollbook that every runescripter is encouraged to read if not memorise. Ansuz, meaning 'God', is commonly called the 'revealing rune', associated with vision, communication, insight, knowledge, and truth. It is typically included in arrays centred around the breaking of spells, the compelling of truth, or the focusing of clarity. By itself, its most common usage lies in the dispelling illusions or enchantments.
[attr="class","stafftempitem"]FLAW FINDER named after the theoretical puck’s flaw, this one-time use talisman can sense illusions and dispel them immediately. To activate, it must be touched-- it helps prevent it from accidentally going off with jokester friends nearby.
