this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.
Valencia chuckled as her familiar stared up at the sky with the curiosity of a child. He craned his neck from time to time and adjusted occasionally for a better view, though careful not to disturb his resting partner. The pair ventured into the outskirts to escape the noise from Sundial City. Once outside of the city's confines, Arion could return to his original size and gallop freely among the glades of flowers. He enjoyed grazing while Valencia read a book or ambling about while she practiced using her abilities in an open space.
They didn't talk very often in the light hours but once night fell, their conversations were abundant.
Currently Arion was seated in a glade of flowers and Valencia was curled up to his side. His mane was a glowing flame and his body's temperature was high enough to chase away the cool night air. Moments like these reminded her of when she was a child and preferred to sleep out on her balcony so she could watch the sun rise in the morning. Arion was her constant companion in those days and in this regard, she hadn't changed.
Valencia?
She snapped back to reality and gave his side a soft pat.
"I'm here."
He huffed and looked to the sky which prompted her to look up as well. Far away from the abundance of lights in Sundial City, it was easier to star gaze and see the world for what it was. Easier and nicer.
"The stars are like glittering diamonds," she mused. "And tiny pockets of light."
Silence continued between them until the sound of approaching footsteps roused Valencia from her daze.

eye for an eye.
It is night when Elijah finds himself on the outskirts of Sundial once again, with the spill of stars above and darkness below, and he idly wonders if he'll find something interesting this time. Ashanti's meeting hadn't been forgotten, and he finds that more often than not, Sundial has much more depth under night cover.
He pulls Vesuvia out of her plane, letting her slink around in the grass, tasting the air with a flicker of her forked tongue. Elijah slides his hands in his pockets and revels in a moment of silence.
Anything on your mind? She questions, her voice soft in his head. He shrugs. There's nothing that's particularly bothering him at the moment. He's entirely content in the darkness.
"Not particularly." He says. They let the conversation end there. No news is good news, and they're willing to keep it as such, for a revelation like this is rare--especially for a person like Elijah. He idly wanders, sturdy steps quiet against the silence. At least, until he sees someone in the distance, muted voices indiscernible in the night air. He pauses and stills, wondering whether it'd be a good idea to say something sarcastic.
Arion huffed as his watching was interrupted and turned his head ever so slightly to observe their new 'friends'. Although, he would've used the word 'friend' lightly as Valencia seemed ready to skewer the young man with any object in her vicinity. But to his amazement and delight, she backed down and returned to where she sat by his side. He looked to the sky and remained quiet while Valencia made herself comfortable. It wasn't like her to be so docile but he assumed that she didn't see the male as a threat.
"Would you like to join us?"
Arion spoke aloud to the pair, feeling the presence of another familiar in their midst. It was rather quiet but he could hear the sifting of grass and insects weren't as likely to make such noise with how small they could be. Valencia rested her hands on her lower stomach and stared upward at the skies with a renewed amount of interest.
"A wanderer just the same," she said. "Names can be given later."
Her familiar huffed and let out a whinnying laughter. Perhaps she was acting a bit out of character but she was too at peace to do anything else. There was a tranquility on the outskirts of Sundial where all of her fears and inhibitions melted away. She'd done all that she could within the city's confines for the day, so why let something stress her out to the point of ruining her evening?
"There's a place nearest to us with little to no rocks."
They'd made sure to clear out the area around them before taking a seat. And it was only fair that she warned her new companion of anything going bump in the night.

eye for an eye.
He watches as the horse familiar turns its head to them, slightly on edge. There's no telling what could happen with these strangers; whether they're keen to hostility or not, he reckons that he'll just find out. There's a moment of terse silence as they stare at each other, and he tenses, ready to spring into action if need be.
Fortunately, the horse only turns back to its seat and sits. He lets out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding, and feels a corner of his lip quirk up. Interesting. He hadn't been looking for a fight exactly, but he had expected far more.
It's not to say that he isn't happy with what happened, however.
"It'd be an honor to join you." He says, even adding a little bow at the end. It seems that this witch is also a wanderer; sometimes names aren't needed, for what they're doing doesn't need such labels. He nods gratefully, finding a place to rest his feet.
Vesuvia makes her presence known soon enough; she slithers out of the dead leaves and grass and wraps her body around Elijah's leg, climbing until she's at his shoulder. Such movements can be off putting to some, but he's gotten used to the rough feeling of her scales on his skin. She's only a snake, after all. Vesuvia tongue flickers before she tilts her head slightly to the side, eyes following the other witch's.
It's nice to meet you. She says. If snakes could smile, she'd be beaming. Elijah's always said that she's too friendly to be a snake; a dog would've fit her personality far better. He nods cordially, finding himself in a much better mood under the cover of the stars.
When Valencia agreed to accompany Arion for his stargazing she hadn't expected to make conversation with another person. It wasn't unpleasant but it was unexpected and she wasn't a fan of surprises. Nonetheless, she settled with her hands on her stomach while she gazed upwards at the expansive canvas dotted with smaller lights. He asked her what brought her here but she thought that the answer was as clear as day. Ironic as the saying must have been.
"Stars," she replied.
She tilted her head ever so slightly to look at him. The snake curled around him seemed to be at home with its head resting on his shoulder. A familiar or a pet, it wasn't vicious or seemingly going to attack her or Arion. Therefore it was welcome to partake in the show that was star-gazing.
"It's a pleasure to meet you as well," Valencia greeted.
Her elbow met Arion's side and he wriggled only to turn his head and give her a narrow-eyed stare. She raised her eyebrow in rebuttal and inclined her head towards the pair joining him.
A pleasure, he said. I am Arion and she is Valencia.
Well, that was a surprise.
She thought that this game of anonymity would hold up for a little while longer until they were all comfortable and in the midst of a discussion. However, her familiar didn't like being around the bush as much as she didn't care for 'what ifs'. And as if to make that point clear, Arion looked to her again and then focused his attention on the sky.

In response to his question, she cranes her neck back and looks to the dotted stars that lay across Sundial's night sky, the spill of white dots against a dark void. Elijah follows her gaze, finding himself observing it with the same fascination he once had as a kid.
"Interesting. " He responds back. People rarely take the time to wait and observe; even Elijah has gotten used to the daily toil of life. But on nights like this, it's nice to be able to sit back and relax. He's glad to see that he's not the only one who needs to unwind.
He can't help but grin at the way she elbows her familiar, his reluctant reminding Elijah of himself. He's been on the other side of that too many times. Vesuvia's politeness and friendliness knows no bounds, not even to her own witch.
"Elijah and Vesuvia." He nods. It's only common manners. He doesn't mind. Had he known that her familiar would give their names up so willingly, Elijah would've said his sooner. He wonders if they'll spend all night looking at the sky.
