this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.
The sun hadn't risen yet but Lazarus was awake before most of Sundial. He ran the back alleyways of the Hovel and through the city's center. Even making sure to take a trip through the cemetery with Bagheera on his heels as a motivator when his body became sluggish. However, once he came to a halt, he was back in the Hovel and having to take deep breaths as he ambled towards a shop which was closed for the night.
These midnight runs were a precaution. Or at least a way to keep his mind from wandering into dangerous territories. But they were exhausting and he found himself out of breath when his body wasn't accustomed to running them. It'd taken quite some time to get back to where he was physically as the rehabilitation was brutal.
Be satisfied with the progress you've made thus far.
His mental chiding came to a halt as he watched Bagheera slink past him. Unlike himself, they seemed to be in tip top shape and was quite happy to show it off. If it wasn't for Bagheera then he wouldn't have made it through most of his training.
So shouldn't you be thanking me?
He opened one eye and looked at them only to be rewarded with a toothy grin. Rolling his eyes, he gently pushed the panther's head away. All was well for the most part and they enjoyed the early morning before the town came alive. That is until the sound of metal clanging and muffled cursing roused Lazarus' from his thoughts. He stood up and walked to the mouth of the alleyway.
Someone fell.
He looked to Bagheera who sighed and stood up, walking into the alleyway themselves.
There are some things about you that will never change.

What exactly was Anass doing climbing the fire escape to his apartment? Well the idiot had forgotten his keys, and so the cracked open window was the only way in at this point. But why was he up so late? The salty taste in his mouth would attest to his midnight escapades, and he wiped his mouth on the back of his hand for the thousandth time before finally sighing and spitting over the edge. No matter how hard he tried he couldn't get the crawling feeling off his skin.
He climbed up another rung, but his foot slipped. He lost his grip and fell down the fire escape, with a loud thud onto the alley below. He groaned and sighed, laying there on the ground with his eyes closed for a few seconds, before hearing a noise. He opened his eyes slowly, already coming to terms with his death, before deciding to say anything.
"If your going to stab me I feel like I could convince you not to because I am a great lay."
Honestly he felt it was the only thing he had going for him at the moment, which was really pretty sad.
Out of all the things that Lazarus expected to hear from someone that had a rather high fall, that was not one of them. His eyebrow quirked and Bagheera's eyes widened to the point where it could've been comical. The panther looked between him and the fallen young man before looking up at him again.
Did we hear right or did I miss something in my old age?
He shot a glare in his familiar's direction before looking down. This person seemed rather lackluster in voice and appearance. Almost as though he had all of the will sucked out of him and was just waiting for something to happen. Nonetheless, Lazarus wasn't in the mood to lay with anyone especially someone like this.
Picky, aren't you?
He glared at Bagheera again and offered his hand to the stranger.
"Where were you climbing to?"
When he looked above, all he could see were fire escapes that belonged to various apartment complexes in the Hovel. If his judgement was right then the stranger could've been living in a number of those. However, the fall from that height could have broken something and he'd been lucky if he wasn't injured in the slightest.

Peering up at the guy who was possibly going to kill him, he hesitated for a moment before grabbing his hand and hauling himself up. He stumbled for a moment before brushing himself off, shaking out his hoodie and looking around. There was no one else in the alley so, still a good place to get killed. But at he eyed the guy he noticed he seemed like one of those nice characters, not belonging in the slums.
"My apartment is up there."
He decided to tell the truth.
"The window is always cracked open because let's be real, I got nothing worth stealing anyone can find easily. But I left my keys in the apartment and accidentally locked myself up today, and slipped off the escape."
He rubbed the back of his neck, a light dusting of pink settling over his cheeks and neck. He looked off to the side before furrowing his brow and mentally assessing his own damage, shifting on his feet subtly to make sure nothing was broken. He was fine until - fuck. The left arm.
Lazarus listened intently to his tale while giving a cursory glance at the fire escape. It didn't seem very safe and could've been something that would take some time to climb. And looking over the young man's physique, he didn't seem to be the most athletic of persons. Bagheera yawned with a wide opening of their maw before brushing their paw over their face. This wasn't exactly what they had in mind for their outing and it was dragging on.
So, why don't you go and let him in his home?
The leopard tilted their head upwards and moved to stand next to the stranger.
I'll stay here with him, make sure he doesn't get into any more trouble.
Well, it didn't seem like a bad plan in truth. But he'd rather not leave him alone with the state that he was in. Glancing up at the fire escape again, Lazarus conceded with the idea that he didn't have much choice.
"We should take care of your arm as soon as possible," he said. "My familiar, Bagheera, will stay here with you. And I'll see what I can do about this."
Bagheera raised their paw and gave a light wave.
Happy trails.
Lazarus resisted the urge to roll his eyes as he turned his back to them and began his ascent up the fire escape. It was a little hard and some of the steps were missing along with the rungs on ladders. He could see that it was rusted and some parts were difficult to hold onto than others. Muscles straining, having to pull himself a little harder every so often, but he kept going.
"Tell me when I'm close, alright?" He called down to them.

Anass loved cats, but Bagheera made him nervous. The cat was just so big and all those teeth.... Anass gazed over the cat with a wary glance, but nodded anyway. The guy really didn't have to do this, but he decided against commenting. He'd learned long ago to bite his tongue when necessary.
"I mean like, go for it if you want."
He mumbled before shifting on his feet. He watched carefully as he started scaling the fire escape, with much more ease than he himself had. It almost made him angry, but he was far too impressed to stay that way for long.
"Second on the left, one more floor."
He called up, cupping his hand over his mouth. His arm radiated pain and he grimaced, but then schooled his features. He could get used to this, he couldn't exactly afford to make it better the old fashioned way. How was he going to repay this guy anyway?
"Don't suppose you'd accept repayment in the form of a blowie huh?"
