this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.
there was an abandoned altar at the heart of the hovel, for even the penniless had time for their higher powers. despite it being semi-abandoned, the structure had not yet fallen to ruin. and kirean found himself there more often than not- on his best of days and worst of days. [break][break] footsteps echoed behind, ones that were not his own, but ones that he recognized nevertheless. [break][break] he sighed tersely, but the steps did not stop. they reached the foot of the stairs, a mere two meters behind kirean. the dark haired man lifted his hood, and the circle that he had been focusing his energies on disappeared from the ground. the light that had been enimating from the summoning circle vanished as well, leaving the two men to dance in the dark. [break][break] "dmitri. are you here to confess your sins?"
things were almost in place. in fact they had been, for a long time. silvertongue was a network, not a coven. and it was time it was utilized as such. regardless, all the moves he had made were finally amounting to something. the title of high priest allowed him many prerogatives and access to all sorts of places in sundial. yet no matter where he went, he found himself drawn to this place. [break][break] the stench of the slums still hadn't left him, like kirean's ever watchful eyes. [break][break] dmitri did little to mask his presence, walking into the summoner's turf as though he owned it. when posed with a question, he merely smiled through grit teeth, face impassive and hardly jovial at all. when the lights of the circle disappeared, it was like a dark shadow had cast itself over his face. [break][break] "only if you'll join me, kirean."
"..." [break][break] he studied dmitri's face, contemplating the nature of the man before him. he was impossible to read, even for kirean. the summoner supposed it had been an art he had to learn quickly -it had been a similar fate for him, as well. but unlike dmitri, kirean could not respond with a falsely kind smile. [break][break] he walked down the stairs, robes kissing each step as he moved across the floor. "you will fail. everything will be in vain. just like every person before you." [break][break] kirean's voice was a monotone - he didn't like letting emotions in on things that were so unpleasant- but his eyes hardened. i will not let you succeed he thought simply, although he knew that making such a bold statement here would do good for neither of them nor anyone's agenda.
ah, but kirean didn't know, did he? that was okay. he would soon find out. right now, the priest was just groping in the dark, attempting to sink the first ship out of a total he couldn't read. it was amusing, exciting, watching the unseeable emotions cross his face, flicker, then vanish away. [break][break]
but he wouldn't let him in on the excitement, instead choosing a nonchalant and almost conversational approach. "really? how can you be so sure?" [break][break]
even as kirean passed him by, he turned around, arms casually crossing over his chest as he stepped forward, blocking the man's exit. "don't tell me it's because i'm unholy." dmitri laughed. kirean's hypocrisy just got to him every time. [break][break]
dmitri was a fool. details and plans were useless if he could see through the overall effort. history would repeat itself, turning rock to soil and soil to rock. yet when dmitri blocked his path, uncertainty surged through him. fear? no. death wasn't terrifying, and dmitri didn't come close. [break][break] yet... [break][break] he sighed, the notion lost in the echoes of dmitri's laugh "no. whatever you may think of me, i am not a fool. you are unholy, you are unworthy. but that is not the reason why you will fail. in fact those are the very reasons great empires are built, the reason society shifts and turns." [break][break] he is a man of virtue, but he is no fool to believe the world will follow in his footsteps. "there is karma. but she's often late and unscrupulous. this world does not care what kind of sin you have committed, it greets filth and divinity alike with smiles and promises. you know this better than anyone." [break][break] sometimes he wishes his ethics would allow him a sneer, but his face is simply vacant as he drones on: "there is only one reason to fail in this world. you will fail simply because..." [break][break] "...you are incapable." [break][break]
dmitri's patience was tried ever time he talked to kirean. he had never met a man so wholly unable to be swayed, unable to be tricked or unable to make fall. it was an insult to his own values. it was a miracle they had ever been close. [break][break] at the man's final words, dmitri grit his teeth, forcing a smile to ease his muscles. he reached out a hand and slapped kirean on the back, probably causing the man to nearly reel over from the hit. summoners were far too weak, yet... [break][break] "i'll let that go in the name of our friendship, kirean." his tone was almost jovial. "and you can stay here if you'd like. but i came here to tell you to not get in my way." [break][break] he turned to leave, eyes narrowing as soon as he was certain the other man could not see his face. he then pursed his lips together before pausing and cocking his eyes ever so slightly to the side. he looked kirean in the eye and, smiling, he said: "hey. i know you know this better than anyone...but medeia...she...she's got quite a mouth on her, doesn't she?" [break][break] and with that, he left.[break][break]
