this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.
Okay. Nana knows that Cadbeary is a bear. It's in his name! Cadbeary! But seriously, he was way too into the park. Here she was, sitting on a bench, pouting, while her familiar was having the time of his life rolling around in the grass and swiping at the pond nearby. Honestly. He can go from "big bad papa bear" to "childish baby bear" in .5 seconds and it gets to her. Of course, he only ever gets playful when they're at the park, but still!
If it wasn't for the love she had for him, Cadbeary would be sitting his fat bear butt in her room while she watched her soaps. Nana sighed at the thought, glancing at the basically prancing bear. Can bears even prance? Is that a thing? With a shake of her head, the girl turned back to staring at the park inhabitants. Not many people were around today, strangely, but maybe that's because there was a bit of a chill breeze. For her, that was perfect, but other people were weird...
Nana did a double take and looked at the person she had been eyeing. He was hot, in a grumpy looking way. And he had cat ears... well she assumed they were cat ears. And a tail. A fluffy as all hell tail. That. She wants to pet that. And stroke it. It's probably really soft. Holy shit.
Pushing off the seat, Nana began making her way over to him. She was gonna talk to him. Whether he liked her or not, she wouldn't care. She wants to fondle that tail, and she damn well will.
"Hiya. You got cute ears." Yes. Perfect. That's how you start a conversation Nana.
This was called a park was it not? He really liked the whole place. If he were able, he'd build his own place here to live. It wasn't dense with trees, but at least it was still packed with nature. It wouldn't compare to the sprawling forests he and his nomadic group traveled around in, but it was a start. People were beginning to show concern when they saw a literal cat man in a tree sleeping and lounging on a thick branch. Some small kids immediately took to the long fluffy tail that dangled from it and it'd be the only time skimming their hands over it was possible with him sleeping.
Nonetheless, there can only be so much children that touch it until a hard yank would send him nearly jumping from the tree itself on to the ground to begin with. While landing on his feet effortlessly, the look of irritation on his face was high class and the kids ran away back to their parents at the first growl from his mouth. "Maybe this isn't such a good place to set up camp..." He wouldn't readily admit he missed staying at Maddox's place for its own benefits, but these inconvenience's really had to end.
Schatten graced his shoulder, popping into existence with just a mere thought. Perhaps you should acquire your own place? It will take work, but you won't have to worry about these things if you did. It was a fair suggestion and one that Lars felt was needed. He'd get a new place. His own place. Sure, technically he could build it on his own if he had the right materials available, but he wanted to see his options.
Well, he would've pondered over them if a girl hadn't came over to him and merely said that his ears were cute. He pursed his lips, those very ears she spoke of rotating just slightly and twitching against his own heard. "Uh..." Schatten looked to him and then back to the girl. Thank her however strange the compliment is.
"...thank...you." He bashfully looked away, not really understanding how they could be cute. They're just ears after all. Not human, but just a tool for one of the main senses animals and humans enjoy.
Oh my lord- they twitched! Her first reaction was to question them. She had originally thought, maybe, that they were just a headband, but after further examination (which she was frankly bad at hiding), she noticed that no, they were attached to his head.
Of course, Nana took this all in stride. Transfiguration was a thing some witches dabbled in, he probably did something with it. There, an explanation easily provided and she didn't freak out. And- Oh gosh. This boy was being incredibly awkward about this. Was he never complimented on his ears? Oh, who was she kidding. If they were real, other people might not be too accepting of them. Honestly though, this boy was gorgeous and he had cute cat (cat ears, right?) to boot! Bonus!
"No problem! I say it like I see it! My name is Nana." She neglected to introduce her familiar, who was now watching them in the meager distance. "May I ask how you got such ears? And the tail too..." A brief glance was sent towards the slowly flicking appendages way. "You don't see such things around too often. I'm curious- but oh! You don't have to tell me if it's a bother." With a rub of her head, Nana grinned a bit awkwardly. "You did just meet me after all..."
Thin darkly colored brows were beginning to lower further on his face. She was staring so intensely that even his normally rigidly disinterested countenance was beginning to crumble. It just made him uncomfortable, unable to look upon her for too long before he wonders what was even her deal. With some sort of cheer in her tone, she gave her name which only caused more confusion to him. What kind of person introduced themselves without giving the other anything proper to work with? Were women normally like this here? Finding something and just going towards what they like without any sort of direction.
Now she was asking how he received the ears and tail in the first place. His lips pursed multiple times, as if trying to find the right time to speak but only being interrupted by more words of this Nana. If Schatten had a pair of human like eyebrows she would've raised them at the end of her words. Amused if nothing else, but jumped off of Lars's shoulder only to catch some bear looking at their direction. Curious...
"Transfiguration. It's part of my culture to look this way." He didn't want to bore anyone with the details, but it wasn't a complicated affair...at least to him and his people. To others? Permanent transfiguration seemed to be highly frowned upon here. "That's all." His upper lip flared from the side, looking as if he was snarling, but it was a mere defensive mechanism and merely to keep busy. Did showcase one of his fangs however which looked as sharp as it should. There was more than just his ears and tail at work here. "I noticed. I'm not used to this." As in, not used to no beings without animal traits like his own. What a strange world beyond his woods.
He was scoweling. Was that bad? That's probably bad. She backed off a bit from him, but didn't let her smile falter. Disregarding the approaching bear of hers, Nana listened with rapt attention. Transfiguration wasn't her affinity, but she was interested in it. And he's from a different culture? Maybe another country or something? Nana for sure hasn't heard about any cultures that use transfiguration in that way.
The fangs were noticed, but quickly thrown onto the back burner. She didn't care much for any threat he could be, because they were in public, and he didn't seem like the type to simply attack her. Everything would be fine as long as she didn't get offensive. When he commented on his lack of experience with the place, Nana couldn't help but frown a little. "It's not too overwhelming, is it? I came from the countryside, far away from here, so it is different... I'd be interested to hear more about your culture though! It sounds incredibly interesting." Her smile was back on. "I'm sure having another person that understands will be at least a comforting thought."
Cadbeary came up next to her finally, and nodded in greeting to the male and his cat. Her hand absentmindedly motioned to him. "This is Cadbeary. He's my familiar." Nana noticed though, that the male had yet to introduce himself. Pushing for his name wasn't her style, so she'd let it slide until he wanted to tell her. Suppose she'll just have to refer to him as sir or something. What's a respectable title for a cat dude that you just met and is also new to the city? She'd have to figure that out...
She may not have known it, but she most certainly was aggressively coming on to him out of her own curiosity. It was...unsettling. Despite not giving her much to go on, she still insisted on telling her about his culture and past. Lars sniffled just a little, pulling up air through his nostrils. They flares, and his tail was still instead of relaxed. He really didn't understand this woman, not a bit. She did give him some space, but his mind was a whir of cogs that were now working on overdrive to decipher this enigmatic being in front of him.
He did so all in some intense silence and had anyone know any better steam would come out of his ears if he were some machine.
Merely shrugging at her question of it being overwhelming, Lars gave off the impression that it wasn't anything he couldn't handle. Besides, he wasn't going to emotionally tell her that this whole experience was so damned weird that he had trouble finding his place. He still technically hasn't though joining up with Leviathan was a step somewhere at least.
The introduction of her familiar had Schatten tilt her head just a bit. What kind of name was this? "A bear." Lars looks intently at the creature. If there was anything Lars readily enjoyed, it was that familiars were in the guise of beings of nature. It was spectacularly interesting, much more than other human beings at least. "A silent familiar? I can understand. To think they take so many different forms than the ones I know..." For once, his eyes showed more than what was initially given. Now they had a brightness of interest.
