A feud is how Gryffin came to be born into the world. His mother's family, the Albatrois proud and ever-boasting of their mastery over the arcane, was one whose history was deeply intertwined with that of the Leviathan coven. They had an ancient feud with a house of honor, trust, and bravery -- and just as powerful as hers. The Bordeax were ever vigilant Knights of Helios who used their public figure and name to gain political and financial power; all on top of their magical strength. Their target was, and had been for quite a while, a daughter of the Albatrois.
In an apparent call for peace the Bordeax offered a marriage proposal the Albatrois. It was an offer that could not be refused, for they would be killing two birds with one stone: First, their enemies would be downed in one fell swoop, and second, their most prized daughter would married off to a suitable suitor from a pwerful house. Things seemed to have fallen into right place for the Albatrois.
The night of the wedding was one of laughter, joy, and unbearable tension. The bride's family had been drinking the night away while the Bordeax kept to their own, eyes shifting to and fro. When the lovely couple were finally married, the groom picked the bride up and carried her off to the bed to consummated. It was in the room, the members of both families behind the closed door, where a horrific scream pierced their ears. Throwing the door open to see his daughter, the father saw dark energy swirling around the groom as he consummated the marriage, a devilish grin on his face. The act was done, the seed planted, and with that, the two families were brought together forever. Until, of course, they slaughtered one another over the deceiving ways of the Bordeax.
The now pregnant woman was ashamed, but knew she could not give the child up, and locked herself away to live her pregnancy in silence and solitude. Nine months passed and the child was born, alone. His mother had died, both sides of his families had destroyed the other, and only the midwife was their to hold the disgusting child. Wrinkled, a sickly looking gray, and bearing piss yellow eyes the child was truly a demon that needed to be put out of its misery. Yet, true to the mother's wishes, the midwife cared for the thing until it was large enough to gather food and the likes for itself. She also, under the last wishes of the mother, named the horrific babe "Gryffin".
Years passed and the midwife "cared" for the child. She was terrified of the brat but the ever looming portraits of his proud and powerful parents kept her in check. Gryffin's mother was no fool and knew better than to trust anyone, especially after the events that led to her pregnancy. She set a curse upon the midwife in her dying breath: As long as her child was safe and alive so would she be, at least until his familiar and magic manifested itself.
She died. The curse killed her when Gryffin's familiar manifested. Even if it hadn't, the Silvertongue would have. What better way to raise a child of Leviathan and Helios than with them?
a house of forbidden knowledge,
