Considering her own family’s staunch loyalty to the Knights and Avori’s own membership, she only thought it proper to volunteer herself for the task of guarding one of the entranceways; she knew her parents were attending the rather grandeur gathering held inside of the headquarters, so why shouldn’t their only daughter involve herself somehow as well? [break] Anemoi was nestled upon her left shoulder as Avori advanced toward the entrance way into the hall, head swiveling constantly to survey their surroundings; sometimes the small kingfisher could be a bit protective, but Avori could also take a guess that he was looking for someone else to talk to. [break] Am I not enough for you now, Ane? Avori’s smooth voice entered into her familiar’s mind. [break] I’m just looking for our partner, Anemoi sung into her thoughts, to which Avori sniffed out a small, almost condescending, laugh. [break] Whatever you say, little one. [break] Anemoi let out a borderline indignant chirp at that, though kept it a quiet one— they wouldn’t want to disturb the guests themselves now would they? [break] The beat of her shoes reverberated throughout the hallway as she went, eyes roaming along the beautifully decorated building; even though she’d gotten used to such luxuries as these, it didn’t mean she’d lost her eye of appreciation. Perhaps it was that superficial side of her that she couldn’t yet tame, at least not inwardly so, that enjoyed being surrounded by lavish and expensive environments. [break] Is this where I start chiding you for getting materialistic again? Anemoi’s almost frustrated tone pierced through her; he had evidently picked up on her reaction to the place. [break] Let me be for now, Ane; can’t a girl bask in pretty things once in awhile? [break] Anemoi didn’t answer, though she did feel a slight smack of his wing to her soft cheek instead, for which she cast him an almost dirty sidelong glance before turning her attention back to where they were headed. [break] Once the pair had reached the grand doors to the Helios Knights Hall, Avori slowed to a stop and leaned against one of the stunningly carved pillars accenting the entrance, waiting for her companion to arrive. To be fair, Avori herself had arrived earlier than was said, but considering the way she was raised, it wasn’t a particularly unnatural pattern she’d picked up. [break] Eventually, she spotted who she guessed to be her partner in the whole ordeal, and, pushing herself away from the pillar and taking a few strides further toward them, her features morphed into a welcoming, amiable smile. [break] “I’m assuming you’re here for the guard position, too?” she inquired with a small tilt of her head, her light hair falling soft across her face as she shifted; Anemoi himself even let out an excited chirp at meeting someone new. [break] “I’m Avori, by the way,” she continued, extending her hand out just as she’d been taught — be polite and respectful to others, especially to those sharing her coven ties.

Nervous didn't even begin to describe how Dalton was feeling today. Today was the day of his first official mission with the Helios Knights! The boy had been waiting for this day for a very long time, even before he was accepted into the coven he had been looking forward to his first real mission. Dalton had hoped that this day and the general experience that came with it would be met with excitement and optimism but so far all he had experienced was the soul crushing nervousness.[break][break]
Even with the new slick snow white suit that he had the nervousness that Dalton had been feeling was easily able to be seen on his face as he walked around the inside of the Helios Knights hall. His eyes constantly moved around as he scanned the area, in all honesty Dalton wasn't able to remember where he was supposed to be meeting his partner for the mission. And on top of that it didn't help much that he showed up a tad bit late for this little round of guard duty.[break][break]
It was almost easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of the gathering that they were supposed to be guarding, after all as far as dalton knew this was some important helios knights business. It was almost impossible for something like that to not intrigue the living crap out of him. However luck was soon on the boy's side as a girl approached him with a smile on her face and asked if he was here for the guard position too. [break][break]
Letting out an audible sigh of relief Dalton nodded his head quickly before flashing the girl a quick grin. "I am! Sorry that I'm a bit late, just got a little bit lost trying to find where we were supposed to meet." He rambled out with a little half-hearted chuckle, feeling kinda dumb for getting lost. Though of course there was probably nothing wrong with it he couldn't help but feel down a bit because of it. Reaching a hand of his own out back to her Dalton shook the girl's hand, still just kinda grinning like an idiot. "Nice to meet ya, I'm Dalton, Dalton Quincey."

“Oh, don’t worry about it,” Avori grinned, happy that she finally wasn’t alone. “I have a habit of getting places a bit too early, anyway; I would say it’s a bad habit, but I guess I was just raised like that.” Her hand came up to smooth over Anemoi’s vibrant plumage as she spoke, the bird preening from her calming touch. [break] “I don’t blame you for getting lost,” her familiar’s sing-song chirp sounded out abruptly as he regarded the man in front of them; Avori simply nodded in agreement. [break] “The place can get really convoluted and confusing; I even get lost sometimes and my family has been around here for years now. I only joined last year though, once I had the option to. What about you?” [break] Avori’s expression remained sweet as she spoke, a soft look overtaking her crimson eyes and a delicate flush coloring her cheeks. They shook hands then, him taking up her offer, before he introduced himself. [break] “Well, it’s certainly a pleasure to meet you too, Dalton Quincey,” she teased all in good fun, letting out a small laugh, eyes betraying her amusement as well as the beaming smile thrown his way; there was no ill will held there. “Come on, might as well go back to our ‘station’ if you can even call it that,” she continued, motioning for the two to walk back together, even if it was a short distance. [break] He seems nice! I like him. This is good. We’re not stuck with a grump. [break] Yes, I like him too— sincere, genuine, from what I can tell. [break] It also helps that he’s cute. [break] Avori. You are boy crazy. Everyone is cute to you. [break] I don’t know what you’re talking about, Anemoi. I see we’re pulling out full names. [break] You know exa— [break] Avori shushed him. [break] “So,” she began, casting a look toward Dalton once they'd arrived at their 'destination' (even though it was really only a few steps away), to keep the conversation flowing. “What made you join the Knights? I’m always fascinated to hear people’s reasons.”

"Hey being a bit early definitely better then showing up late." The boy simply blurted out with a quick chuckle as his new found partner for the quest smoothed her hand over the bird on her shoulder. It wasn't too hard to guess that the colorful bird perched on her shoulder was her familiar. Flashing the familiar a grin of its own Dalton would slip a hand up to the back of his head, scratching at his head for a brief moment. Just seeing the girls familiar made the boy miss his own slightly. [break][break]
Of course his familiar was fine and still existed he just kindly asked the dog familiar to metaphorically hang back and not do too much today. It was just his first ever mission and he had this weird urge to accomplish it on his own without any assistance from the familiar. Though it was just a little guard assignment there wasn't really anything to prove by doing it without the familiar or anything to gain from it. Well aside from a bit of weird pride in knowing that he did something by himself. [break][break]
"I joined umm..about a couple months ago? I hoped that I wouldn't be getting lost around here still by now but ehh can't have everything that you hope for I guess." Dalton chuckled out with a quick nod of his head as the girl suggested they headed back to their 'station'. "Oh right! Its a pleasure to meet you too." [break][break]
Looking down for a brief moment Dalton would adjust the tie he was wearing slightly, the tie apparently having come undone just a tiny bit while he was trying to find his way around the hall. Once his tie had been fixed Dalton would nod his head, more to himself then anyone else, before hurrying up to catch back up with Avori. Though she only had been a few steps ahead of him. [break][break]
In all honesty Dalton was feeling a bit more nervous now then he was before, it was bad enough that the first mission nervousness was getting to him, but his partner for the mission was preeeetty darn cute. For a moment once they arrived at their 'station' Dalton would find himself just kinda staring at Avori, only to try his best to hurry up and look away as she cast a look his way before she spoke. Trying to play it off like he wasn't just look at her. [break][break]
"Huh? Oh..Well ever since I was a kid I just kinda wanted to help people out you know? I mean magic can do some pretty awesome things if you use it right, so why not use that to do some actual good and help people out.."

Avori laughed a bit at his comment, eyes crinkling at the corners. “Yeah, you’ve got a good point, but hey, you’re here now, and that’s all that matters— at least to me,” she replied, adjusting the strap of her dress; she’d forgotten to have the straps tailored to be a bit tighter along her shoulders. [break] Ane, can you do me a solid and remind me to get this thing fixed? It’s so tedious to adjust it all the time… [break] Avori could already feel the bird’s response before it was said: I suppose, yes, I could do that. [break] Could or will? [break] Anemoi refused to answer her, and she made sure he felt her suspicion. [break] “Oh, I see! So you’re still pretty new here, I guess; don’t worry about getting lost, it really does take a bit of time to get used to how… expansive the place is. All in the name of looking the part, probably,” Avori continued, jutting her arms out and taking a half-turn back away from his direction, as though to encompass the hall in her words before refocusing. “I’m glad! And happy that you’re here; much better company, in my opinion.” [break] Anemoi let out an indignant chirp at that, hovering midair before maneuvering himself over and onto her head this time, taking advantage of the air as opposed to his wings, before giving Avori a small peck of admonishment. “And here I was, thinking you actually liked me, Avi.” [break] Avori giggled, though she shushed the kingfisher, speaking in a soft voice: “To be fair, we’re together all of the time.” He merely rustled his feathers. [break] “Sorry about him, he’s just teasing a lot of the time,” she addressed Dalton then, giving him a sweet smile. [break] It was only really a beat before they were where they were assigned to be, Avori subconsciously running her hand over the pillar she had been leaning on, so clean she could almost see her reflection, her back turned to Dalton for a moment before she looked back over. [break] She caught him just as he turned his head, almost as if he was a bit embarrassed, and Avori couldn’t help the blush coloring her cheeks. [break] Are you going to be the hopeless romantic here and wonder if he was staring at you… [break] Okay, but what if he was, Ane. What. If. He. Was. [break] You’re incorrigible. [break] “That’s a really nice thing to hear, to be completely honest. That you’re not just in it for the status or the name. I’m kind of the same— just want to do the right thing, regardless of the fact that my family has been Knights for generations and it was sort of expected of me, but I don’t regret joining.” Avori was not usually one to beat around the bush— she was candid, blunt… much more honest than before. She also didn’t like keeping secrets when she didn’t have to, but she didn’t think revealing how much of an elitist snob she used to be when she was younger was proper; she was different now, that’s what mattered. [break] “It’s… the Knights are a good coven.” [break] She smiled about his comment over magic, lacing her arms together and leaning back against the pillar once more as she looked at him; he was right— magic was wonderful, and held so much potential; Avori was always the one to be impressed by any feats performed. [break] “Yeah,” she said softly, feeling the weight of Anemoi lift as he dematerialized for the moment— he’d been in Avori’s realm for a while, and he liked to take occasional breaks. “Magic is… something different. It’s wonderful. I’m a starcaller— and even though everyone only sees it as an amusement affinity,” — Avori rolled her eyes as she said that bit — “I take it seriously. There’s just… it’s so much more than what people think.” [break] Avori broke her gaze away from him for a moment, peaking into the hall; might as well keep their wits about them, yeah?
Letting a slight chuckle escape his lips Dalton would lean back against one of the pillars by their 'station', he wasn't too sure on if they were allowed to lean up against them but hey there shouldn't be anything wrong with it. Its not like he was trying to knock the pillar down or anything like that. "Well..I'm glad that I'm here to help out!" The dark haired boy happily blurted out, sending yet another grin over Avori's way. Once again the grin came off pretty genuine, it seemed like just being here to help out actually made him happy. [break][break]
For a few moments Dalton stood there as the girl and her familiar had their little back and forth, laughing a little bit at what was going on between the two of them. It was always kinda nice to see someone getting along great with their familiar. Then again he had yet to meet anyone who didn't get along with their familiar as of yet. [break][break]
The very idea that someone with a familiar could not get along with it seemed kinda insane to him. They were supposed to be your partner for life how could you not be friends with them? [break][break]
"Its fiiine, you guys get along pretty good." Dalton said with yet another chuckle, his cheeks flushing a faint red for a moment at the sweet smile that the girl flashed him. Plus the little comment she made before about being happy that he was here and better company helped the slight blush appear. A moment after it spread across his face however the redness was gone again as Dalton turned his head to look deeper into the hall, trying to get a little peek at what was going on. [break][break]
He couldn't help but be a tad curious as to what all the higher up members were doing inside the halls but ultimately it was none of his business he was just here to help guard things. More then likely he'd never come to know what the gathering was exactly about and he was okay with that at the end of the day. [break][break]
"That sounds kinda cool!" The boy blurted out after she mentioned her family being in the coven for generations. She didn't really give off any kind of elitist snob vibe to him so there really wasn't any judgement to pass on how long her family had been in the coven. [break][break]
It just seemed like nothing more then a neat fact about her honestly. [break][break]
Leaning off of the pillar already Dalton would once again reach up to scratch at the back of his head for a moment. "Starcaller huh? I always thought that was a cool form of magic, i'm sure you could show people how serious it could be. Never really thought anything was just for amusement. But uhhh hey at least its cooler then Alchemy? Thats what my affinity is, I mean theres nothing wrong with it or anything like that, its just kinda bland."
Avori found the guy — Dalton — to be rather charming, in his own way. He seemed so genuine, good-natured, all traits that she admired. It wasn’t very often she met someone of her coven who was the way he was, and it was refreshing to know that there were still people who were, at their core, good. It seemed the world was always full of surprises, and Avori didn’t mind them much— when they were the good ones, at least. [break] Avori didn’t really know if she would be categorized as one of them, considering her past and how she thought of herself and others; she hadn’t fully changed— she was still materialistic to a degree, still a bit judgmental even though she did regard everyone as being on equal ground… it was simply hard to shake the attitude she was raised with. Yes, she was seventeen years old and she’d been actively trying to change her way of being for two years, but she had slip-ups now and again— she supposed that made her pass decent, at best. [break] “Hah! You should see us on the off days— always going back and forth. But hey, it’s funny to people, I guess,” Avori finished with a small shrug and a slight smirk, crimson eyes glowing in amusement. “What about you? What’s your familiar like?” Her head tilted again, her gaze locked on his, though the smirk had softened to a smile; she enjoyed talking to people, and he was certainly fun to talk to— interesting, exuberant. [break] She let out a bright laugh, eyes falling closed momentarily. “Yeah, bit boring to me but that’s because I live with it” — she let out a small chuckle, grin broadening — “I guess it can be interesting! Family history and all… Can be cool to know where you come from. Has your family been involved with the Knights before?” Her eyes sparked with genuine curiosity at that, no ill will or a means to offend. [break] His reaction to her affinity, however, sealed the deal for her— he was a good guy, especially in her eyes. [break] For a moment, her whole face dropped, lips parting as she looked at him — really looked at him — almost intensely so; that is, until suddenly her entire demeanor shifted and her whole face lit up, the blood returning to her cheeks, smile wide and eyes bright. “Really?” she whispered, almost in disbelief; she could count on one hand the amount of people who shared her views, not counting her family. “I— Tha— wow,” she breathed, suddenly turning a bit shy, breaking her gaze away to look at the ground beneath her and fight off the smile plastered on her face. "I'll be honest, I don't meet a lot of people who think that," she said softly, raising her head though still not looking at him straight on. "I appreciate it." [break] “At least it’s cooler than Alchemy? That’s what my affinity is … it’s just kinda bland.” [break] Her eyes shot up in that moment, looking him head on again with an almost stern, though still very kind, turn of her features. “Hey, every type of affinity is cool— alchemy has so many possibilities, it’s amazing what alchemists can do. I don’t think it’s bland at all. Regardless of what other people’s views are on it, alchemy is interesting, you’re interesting. At least in my eyes you are.”

“What about you? What’s your familiar like?” The question was one that Dalton kinda expected to come up at some point. Especially with how often the girl and her familiar had been talking so far throughout the mission. It wasn't a bad question or anything, it just made him feel a bit awkward since he'd more then likely have to explain where his familiar was at. [break][break]
"Oh mine? Well.." Dalton mumbled out for a moment as he scratched at the back of his head for a third time, the scratching just a random habit of his. [break][break]
"Well my familiar's named Snowy, she's a snow white dog. Oh! She's pretty smart too, not like how people say dogs who know tricks are smart but actually wise, she gives me advice on pretty much anything. Its kinda funny though, she goes from being all wise and polite to just super hyperactive and running around everywhere." The boy rambled out as a grin slowly spread across his face, he liked talking about his familiar. "I'll have to introduce you to her sometime, I kinda asked her to sort of lay low for the mission. Wanted to see if I could do it without her help for once." [break][break]
However while he expected the question about familiars he didn't expect her reaction to his support for what she wanted to do with her affinity. There was a part of Dalton that doubted the people viewing it as amusement affinity, though that was mostly just due to his general views on magic. [break][break]
They were all useful and had their place in this world, the idea that one would just be for fun didn't really make much sense to him. "No problem. Its just the truth, if you put your mind to it I'm sure you can show everyone how serious it can be. But uhh, no my parents weren't really involved with the knights. They run a little shop where they sell potions and stuff that they whip up, whole families alchemists." [/bi] [break][break]
For a moment Dalton would go to say something else before Avori seemed to get a bit more stern before talking about how alchemy, and him, were interesting. Though of course that last bit about him being interesting did make the boy redden just a little bit. [break][break]
"N-no I didn't mean it like that. I know it can be cool and all that but just comparatively its kind of bland, I just make potions and stuff. And I'm not even that good at it so far, all I know how to make is this potion called Aphrodite's Dust, that makes people more attractive...N-not that you'd need something like that or anything.." The alchemist rambled out, not even realizing what it was he said.

Avori had noticed how often Dalton scratched his head; it seemed like a habit, maybe a nervous one — she obviously couldn’t pinpoint, as they had only just met — but it was an endearing one; she couldn’t help the gentle smile she put forth. She liked his voice, especially when he started talking about his familiar; the affection was so evident, especially as his expression transformed the more he spoke of her. Of course, she doubted anyone speaking of their familiars would speak poorly of them… as far as Avori was concerned, a familiar was there with you for life for a reason, and the reason couldn’t possibly be to hate one another. [break] Then again, perhaps everything happens for a reason. [break] Avori laughed at the last bit of the description, nodding her head a bit; “Anemoi’s a bit like that too— acts the wise guy role but then you talk to him and he’s just a preening little kingfisher who just likes to make friends. I guess that part of him is like me; I like meeting new people a lot. But Snowy sounds so cute!” [break] While Avori had a soft spot for birds — regardless of the fact that her own familiar was a bird himself — all animals were adorable, especially dogs. [break] “I’d like that, to meet her someday” Avori said lowly, eyes softening; “and yeah, I remember for my first official ‘task’ for the coven I wouldn’t let Ane help me with anything! I can understand the feeling; plus, it makes you feel more independent.” She finished her words with a rather cheeky wink. [break] “I hope to achieve that one day— make people realize it’s not what they’ve dumbed starcalling down to. My whole family is kind of… well, we’re known for our starcallers, and we all take it seriously, but I guess the public doesn’t care as much as we do about that,” Avori trailed off at the last bit, diverting her gaze, her brows furrowing for a moment before she collected herself again and looked back over to Dalton. [break] “Ooh, that’s cool! A family business is always nice to hear; I might even stop by one day and say hi! I find the ‘little’ shops to be more interesting than the usuals… so much more character in them, in my opinion,” she remarked, tone almost excited; she loved the idea of a family business that wasn’t all tied in politics and investments and the like. [break] When met with Dalton’s reaction to her small… for lack of a better word, outburst, however, Avori took on an almost guilty look; she didn’t mean to make him nervous or as though he’d done something wrong… [break] “I’m sorry if it seemed like I attacked you but hey, ‘potions and stuff’ can be really awesome. Way more flexible, too; sometimes I wish I knew more about alchemy, it’s fascinating to know how to brew things to create the stuff you make,” Avori murmured, eyes intent and focused on him as she spoke; she didn’t expect a reply, really, but it was his next words that caught her a bit off guard— [break] “...all I know how to make is this potion called Aphrodite's Dust, that makes people more attractive...N-not that you'd need something like that or anything.." [break] Did he… is that… does he think I’m— ? [break] She lost her breath for a second, trying to figure out what it was he meant by that, cheeks flushed completely; she could swear she felt her heart drop — in, like, a good way, though. [break] “You don’t need something like that either, Dalton,” she said finally, softly, a small, hint of a smile playing on her lips that she — unsuccessfully — tried to fight off.

"Guess I'll have to introduce the two of you sometime after this for sure then." The boy blurted out in response to Avori confirming that she'd like to meet his familiar at one point. He was a bit more excited about getting to introduce the two of them then something as simple as that would call for. Mainly for the reason that it meant he'd get to see her again sometime. Which was a pretty good thing in his mind. [break][break]
Reaching his hands down Dalton would slip them into the pockets on the jacket part of his suit. Taking another quick peek into the hall since they were supposed to be guarding it after all to make sure everything went off just fine. Though there didn't seem to be any signs of a problem yet which was pretty darn good. Though he really didn't want to admit it out loud Dalton had kind of figured that the mission wasn't gonna be anything intense or dangerous. After all why would the higher ups need a couple of kids to guard them unless it was just your regular routine guard duty. [break][break]
Of course he might of been completely wrong with that assumption but who knows. [break][break]
Rocking back and forth a bit on his heels slightly Dalton nodded his head at the girl. "You can totally do that! I'm sure you could do it on your own but if theres anyway I can help you out with your starcaller goal thingy let me know and I'll do my best!" While he wasn't exactly sure how he'd be able to help out with something like that since he wasn't exactly capable of doing that particular form of magic the offer was completely genuine. [break][break]
Her goal was a nice one after all, it was pure and genuine. It was extremely easy to see how much she cared about starcalling and people's views on it just based off of the reaction from when it was first brought up. So Dalton didn't really have any reason, or desire, to not offer at least some kind of help. [break][break]
Grinning over at her again Dalton leaned back against the pillar behind him. "Its fiiiine, it didn't seem like you were attacking me or anything like that. It can be pretty flexible once you learn how to make more things, I gotta work on that sometime instead of my familiar magic things." He chimed out with a quick chuckle, still not having any idea of what he had said to her about the potion he was capable of making. [break][break]
For a moment he was confused by how flushed Avori's cheeks had gotten, almost asking her if she was feeling alright before she spoke up on her own. It was then that it actually hit Dalton that he had blurted out that he thought she was attractive. At least if he realized what he was going to say he could of thought of a cooler way to say it or something! Blinking a bit once she returned the compliment Dalton's cheeks would soon be completely flushed too to match hers. [break][break]
"O-oh uh..I uhh..really?" He stammered out as a hand went out from his pocket and up to scratch at the back of his head, her compliment catching him all the way off guard.
“Definitely,” Avori replied with a smile; “plus, we can see each other without being on guard duty,” she teased, giggling at the last bit. She couldn’t help to admit that she wouldn’t mind meeting him again— he was sweet, and cute, and passionate; a good person, someone to admire, and Avori did hold him in high respect because of it. [break] She did wonder, however, exactly why the job offer for guards was put out— the Hall was already so high security… perhaps they were afraid of something? Or, of course, this was simply an additional precaution should anything happen, which was likely the case. The Knights certainly had their fair share of enemies out in Sundial, and Avori wasn’t particularly keen on encountering one of them just yet. [break] Regardless, she kept her eyes roaming across the hall that she was facing, occasionally peering over her shoulder as well; mainly, she was trying to hear for something— a commotion, an indicator— that things may have been compromised, and additional assistance may be required from them. She didn’t consider it to be a real problem for them though; what were the odds? [break] Avori adopted a shy smile at Dalton’s words; he was so kind, from what she could tell, and supportive. “I… really appreciate that. And hey, you could teach me some alchemy stuff one day,” she winked, a mischievous smirk overtaking her lips. “I’m a pretty curious girl, see… But I understand, familiar magic is pretty fun; I’m an air element myself. Easy breezy,” she finished with a laugh, untangling her arms and smoothing one hand across her neck and her shoulder while her other supported the arm on the elbow, her carried hand simply resting against her collarbone then. [break] Her cheeks were still flushed and her breathing a bit thick; her heart was pounding a bit but she couldn’t help her smile as she looked at him. She knew he likely didn’t mean to say it— at least not blurt it out nervously as he did just then— but she was endeared, and the fondness she felt was clear on her face. She’d decided it then: she was interested, even liked him, and she wanted to see more of him outside of an assigned setting. She wanted to get to know him better. [break] “Yes, really,” she breathed silkily, wetting her lips before she spoke. “We should— uhm.” She stopped herself abruptly, nerves a bit on edge. “I’m— just, I’m really happy to have met you— we should hang out soon? If you want to,” she said the last part rather quickly, nervously; it seemed she was the one to be blurting things out this time around, but she refused to hide after what she’d just told him— being upfront is all she was about, and there was nothing wrong with essentially saying she enjoyed his company.
Dalton couldn't help but grin over at Avori once again as she spoke. There was just something about her own smile that was kind of infectious and just made his own smile grow at the sight of it. The only word he really could think of to describe it was, somewhat ironically, magical. Of course there wasn't any actual magic to her smile or anything like that. "Heh, weeeell I think I'd like that. We could get to know each other more or something...or just get something to eat." [break][break]
After saying that the boy's hand was right back up at the back of his head. He wasn't sure if he was being too forward or not with his ideas for what they could do whenever they aren't on guard duty. Those options sounded a little bit like actual dates instead of just friends hanging out and having some fun, which he totally didn't have a problem with. [break][break]
Once again the boy would take a few moments to turn his attention to the hall that they were in charge of guarding on this night. Everything still seemed to be going along smoothly, at this point Dalton let his guard down a little bit, feeling like he could be a bit more relaxed. Sure it was still a mission so he couldn't just zone all the way out or not take it seriously, but the pressure was definitely lessened a decent amount. There was nothing wrong with a nice quiet mission for his first official mission, it was kind of nice actually. And the company was even nicer. [break][break]
"I could definitely do that! I mean, I probably couldn't teach you much right now but it would still be fun." He chimed out with a sharp nod of his head once Avori suggested that he could teach her some alchemy stuff some time. Sure he wasn't the best at it and she could probably find someone better to teach her the stuff but it would be nice to try his hand at teaching people stuff for once instead of learning. "Air huh? Well I guuuuues my elements pretty cool...get it...cause its ice?" [break][break]
Chuckling at his own little corny joke Dalton would go to scratch at the back of his head for just a moment at the last thing that the girl said. Only to end up slipping the hand back down into his pocket, he couldn't just keep being nervous, especially for something like that he had to have some kind of confidence behind his answer. "I'd really like that actually. How about this weekend or something?" Despite saying it with a some confidence in his voice the boy's cheeks were still flushed by the time he finished the short sentence.
“I look forward to it,” she said, tone cheery— which, if she admitted it to herself, the prospect of getting to know him did excite her; part of her felt like he could have been implying a date, but she didn’t get any hopes up; someone like him could do much better than to be interested in someone like her, but she did like to entertain the possibility. [break] Avori’s ears perked at the sudden noise coming from within the hall, tensing, though it was immediately apparent that those inside were laughing. She pursed her lips a bit, eyes trained on the entrance before shrugging, dismissing her curiosity and focusing again on her mission partner. [break] “Oh, totally! Besides, I love learning new things, and I’ll take anything you give me; it’s just so interesting— fascinating, really,” she murmured, features soft and kind, eyes focused intently on him. She really didn’t expect to get a partner like him, and to say she was pleasantly surprised was an understatement; Dalton Quincey was definitely someone she wouldn’t mind — wanted to, really — to have in her life, in whatever capacity, even if she was leaning toward one… [break] “Oh Merlin, the puns are out!” she said with a good-natured laugh, as she turned her head upward slightly before refocusing once more, an amused and endeared expression overtaking her. “That was cute, I have to admit; corny, but cute,” she giggled, and resisted the urge to blurt out ‘and it helps that you’re cute, too.’ [break] Okay, maybe Ane was right about the whole hopeless romantic thing, but he’s nice, and cute, and endearing, so how could I not be a bit of a romantic anyway… It’s completely justified. [break] “I think I understand Snowy a bit better now that I know you’re an ice guy yourself,” she mused playfully, breathing out a half-laugh. [break] She was still blushing, but after her rather bold move, it seemed that the color was slightly waning, though it was plainly evident she was still feeling the same. She beamed when he, well, accepted her suggestion, eyes brightening as well. “This weekend sounds perfect— maybe get dinner and if you want, we can walk around a bit after as well? There’s a lot of stuff to do, it’s all up to what you’re down for, though.” Her smile was still rather wide, and even bashful; she was looking forward to seeing him again; she didn't even mind that what she was saying implied a date; she hadn’t even noticed the implication herself.

At this point the chances of the grin stock on Dalton's face fading away were slim to none. Unless for some reason the mission they were on suddenly took a very drastic turn for the worse this would go down as the greatest mission that he could of possibly had for his first one. Though of course this would probably just feel like a regular boring mission if it wasn't for who he happened to get paired up for with the mission. Perhaps it was fate that they both were assigned for this random session of guard duty? Or something like that. [break][break]
Contrary to what the girl might of been thinking it was less of a possibility that Dalton was interested in her, and more of a straight up fact that he was. Not only did she seem like a good person in general but she had been doing a pretty decent job at making him laugh so far, which was always a plus. And on top of that she was pretty darn cute, and kinda short which just made her kind of adorable? Basically there already was a growing list of reasons as to why he'd be interested in her. [break][break]
Noticing the raise in noise from within the hall at about the same time Avori did Dalton would also turn his attention to the hall to see what the hell was going on. Only to end up chuckling a little bit to himself once he realized it was just laughter, he had feared for just a moment that the mission actually was about to go down hill. But nope it was just some laughter. [break][break]
Turning his attention back to his partner for the mission Dalton would give her a slight shrug of his shoulders. "Sounds like they're having fun in there at least? I guess that settles it though, I'll teach ya whatever I know about alchemy, aaaand anything that I learn after that. Just let me know whenever you feel like learning some things and I'll try out teaching!" The more they talked about it the more the idea of teaching someone about alchemy was growing on him, at first he offered just because hey who was he to stop someone from learning more about it? But the idea was seeming kinda fun now.. [break][break]
"What can I say, corny but cute's my specialty." The boy chimed out as he shot Avori a quick wink, chuckling to himself during it. Unfortunately though he was pretty much out of puns already, well at least for the moment, they were a bit tricky to think of. Plus too many puns could just get kind of awkward which Dalton definitely wasn't aiming for. Then she came back with what he assumed was a pun of her own by calling him an ice guy, which ended up making him laugh a bit. It was a pretty good pun. "Guess it helps break the ice huh?" [break][break]
Okay he couldn't resist throwing out one last pun before throwing in the towel. [break][break]
Seeing how her eyes brightened when he agreed to hanging out with her again soon Dalton couldn't help but start to smile again. Not grinning like an overly happy idiot this time, but just smiling over at her. He did pick up on her suggestion for something to do sounding a lot like a date though, and while he wasn't completely sure if it was supposed to be there really was only one way to check. "That sounds sounds really nice Avori, dinner and a little walk afterwards would be fun. So I guess its a date then? W-well only if you want it to be one.." He blurted out a little bit nervously, his confidence waning slightly at the possibility that her answer could be a negative one.
Avori couldn’t help looking at him, and she wasn’t particularly trying to hide that she was— just playing it off like she was simply putting her attention strictly on him whenever she wasn’t checking around; everything seemed to be going to plan, and Avori was grateful for that; especially because it didn’t disrupt her time with the current company. Aside from that— while she was a starcaller, and could call upon Ursa Major to strengthen her abilities, she couldn’t see the sky from inside; she’d be a bit useless, even though it would still help her a small bit. [break] Oh Merlin, I think— okay, know— that I like him. Is this bad? Good? Both? [break] Really, at this point, she was taking him in; he was tall, much taller than her— which was something she found attractive— and his voice, mannerisms, habits; they were endearing and almost calming to her because of how genuine and open it made him seem. [break] Not to mention how kind and supportive; Avori couldn’t help but wonder if she was simply getting her hopes up for him, and that in reality, this was a dream or something that she wasn’t aware of… then again, Anemoi wouldn’t have been with her in a dream, at least going off of the assumption that it wasn’t possible considering that he had yet to appear in any of them just yet. [break] “Well, I guess it’s good to know it’s not as much of a bore in there than I thought it was; but I’m gonna take a good guess and say I’m having more fun talking to you than whatever it is they’re doing in there,” she laughed, a smirk on her lips. “I look forward to it; I’m sure I have a lot to learn. I think you’ll be a wonderful teacher; I like you already, and that certainly helps…” [break] Avori laughed at his next words, bright and jovial, moving her hand from her collarbone to twirl a bit of her hair. “It certainly is,” she said lowly, rolling her bottom lip into her mouth, biting it for a moment, a small habit of hers. “Hah! That it does,” she giggled at his next pun; she had to admit that he was rather funny, and that only made him more attractive to her. [break] She gave him a sheepish smile in the end, when he— in her eyes— sort of asked her out even though she kind of asked him out but he also— it’s a complicated system, but Avori didn’t care much for semantics; her heart was already beating faster at the thought of going on a proper date with him, and her stomach seemed to flip. [break] “I’d love to— make it a date, I mean,” she said, giving him a soft, even almost flirty, look. [break] Before Avori could say anything else, the doors suddenly opened and the guests began to file out of the grand hall, obscuring her view of Dalton, and she almost pouted at not being able to see him for a bit, before the crowd thinned again and she could look at him. [break] “It seems the party is over,” she snickered, a half-smile curving up her slightly flushed cheek.
