this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.

it was madness to repeat the same thing and desire different results.[break][break]
for julius, even the slightest act of repetition was madness- he disliked having to repeat what he said a second ago to someone that hadn't been paying attention. but this was above and beyond- the repetition of an entire experience he was certain no one wanted to go through again. [break][break]
but some kind of irresistible curiosity had made him accept the mission- it was a paper on purification and the anti-magic movement a century ago. also known as- a topic he had no idea about and had volunteered himself as an expert in with the hopes of picking the brains of whoever was his partner. [break][break]
hopefully, the essay writing hell would be worth going through.[break][break]
the prospects of meeting his partner and learning something exciting had julius walking with an unassuming expression of mild optimism plastered on his face. he turned when his interface signaled him to turn and then knocked at the door of the house where the student they were supposed to be helping lived.[break][break]
it was about an hour past noon- they had the rest of the day and all of the night to start their work.

Astartia hadn’t touched any schoolwork for ages — something not exactly uncommon for a twenty-six year old witch — but she couldn’t help the chuckle parting her lips when she’d read over the request. She remembered, back in her own university days, how she’d procrastinate to the last minute only to rush off something half-decent to turn in; somehow, things worked in her favor, but she supposed this sort of luck would always be entirely circumstantial for her. However, the topic did intrigue her, especially on a personal level; as a purifier herself, and someone deeply concerned with history — a subject she held a fondness for, especially considering the history she’d been deprived of in her own life — she couldn’t help but be drawn to the plea. [break] She might even learn a bit more herself in the endeavor, after all. [break] It wasn’t long before she’d reached the provided address, strolling casually to the door of the building; she caught a glimpse of a man — likely her partner — ahead of her, having already knocked to signal their arrival. [break] “Hey,” she greeted plainly, breaking the silence, a small smile stretching her lips as a gesture of genuine interest. “Guess we’ll be writing this together, yeah? I’m Astartia,” she continued, easing a hand forward, opening the opportunity for him to shake it as a form of welcome. [break] Before she could say anything else, the door to the home opened, and they were welcomed inside; she cast the man an imploring look, tilting her head forward to urge him in before her with a slight smirk on her face.

julius spun at the sound of a voice, face breaking into a grin to reflect the girl's. "yo," he greeted, one hand removed from his pockets to wave at the girl. she came closer, though, and julius found himself shaking her hand instead. "i'd say you have a pretentious name but hey. i'm julius. and yeah, good to meet you." his hand retracts from the shake and he seems to regard her for a moment. "hey have i seen you somewhere?"[break][break]
the girl was distinctly familiar and even though julius was bad with faces and names, he felt like if the thought for long enough he could place her somewhere. only he didn't quite get the chance because soon enough the door opened and a tallish male invited them inside, begrudgingly hospitable and clearly stressed.[break][break]
the girl seemed to want him to go in before her despite him naturally waiting for her to go in first. being an asshole weighed heavy on his shoulders, but having been smacked manners by an angry journalist sister weighed a little heavier. he shrugged at her gesture and stepped inside. the home was wooden and crammed with different photos and furniture. it was clear the boy had been living here for a while- a likely sundial native. after all the ones that came from the villages for education tended to do their work on time.[break][break] "anyway," he said, and julius shamelessly looked up from his examination of the comfy-looking sofas. "this is my workspace--" [break][break] the door opened and inside was more a mess of books and papers than any actual space, but the raven-haired male could hardly judge. "the books are there. uhhh. goodluck."[break][break] the door creaks shut. "huh i wasn't expecting him to be this anti-social," julius remarked, sighing as he scanned the room, apparently lost in thought. suddenly, he clasped his hand together. "the library!" he exclaimed as though having a eureka moment of clarity, pointing at astartia. "you work there, don't you?"

A laugh bubbled through her chest at the man’s — Julius’ — words, her free hand waving the comment off in the air. “You can say it,” she shrugged, swaying her head to the side as she regarded him. “I have yet to meet someone with a name as flamboyant as mine, not even my sister’s,” she continued simply, laughing again, good-natured. “But Julius…” she trailed, teasing his own name, though her expression held no ill-will; she was simply too much for her own good when she was being mischievous. [break] Give me an opportunity to be a little shit just to have fun and I’ll take it. [break] Her brows furrowed for a moment as she regarded him following his next comment— or question, more like. Had she seen him before? Astartia wasn’t the type to have a bad memory, especially not with faces, but she couldn’t figure Julius out for the life of her. She was about to say something before the two of them were interrupted, the front door swinging open with a slight rush of the air as another boy stood in the doorway, looking haggard, and invited them in, however reluctant he seemed to her. [break] You’d think the kid would be more grateful that someone actually responded to his request on time. [break] She stepped into the house after Julius, eyes flitting over the home before following the two others into the, as the boy stated, “workspace.” The boy himself seemed to dissolve, letting the two in with a haphazard farewell before the door swung shut behind them. Astartia let out a short breath, almost a bark of a laugh, as she circled the room, eyes roaming over the novels found there. She ran her hands along the spines until she found one that looked promising on the purification front, delicately pulling it out and balancing it open on her palm while she rifled through. [break] “I can’t say I’m too surprised,” Astartia murmured off-handedly, gaze skirting the pages. “Dude seems a bit strung out.” [break] She took a few steps forward, fingers turning a page as she kicked a chair out and sat herself on it, leaning her head further down as though she had found something… [break] “I think this might he—” she began, though was quickly cut off as Julius seemed to have an epiphany, head shooting up to look at him. “The library? I only go there to visit my…” [break] Lucena. [break] “Oh! No, no, no, I don’t work there,” she continued, laughing for a moment as the realization hit. “Sorry, I’m not laughing at you, it’s just… well, my twin sister works there. Lucena— not as pretentious as me, yeah?”

"what about julius?" he pressed, his smile mirroring the girl's mischeivous smile with another no less so. [break][break]
when they head into the room, julius snickers. "very strung out. clearly has no idea what uni's all about..." his voice trailed off as he eyed the book the girl picked up. was she just skimming around, or was she as clueless on the topic as he was? julius had no idea, but he'd be angry if someone else had stolen his idea of turning a mission that required expertise into a learning venture. [break][break] he asks her about the library and she seems confused at best. huh. did he jump on the wrong broom? he's about the retract his statement but the girl begins to laugh. juls isn't quite amused yet, but astartia gets the benefit of the doubt. he gives her a blank smile. "huh?" he asks, and then blinks rapidly.[break][break] "oh whoa, that's neat." he laughs with her. "oh no, i don't think anyone's topping astartia yet." [break][break] well then, another pair of twins to add to the tally. he hums a bit, thining about the girl in the library and then his thoughts sort of zone out a dozen times over before his attention bubbles to the surface and he looks back at astartia. [break][break] "so. are you from sundial? i never took history of magic to be blunt. did you take the same classes? do you take the same classes?" [break][break] she looked young. kind of. honesty he'd have better luck guessing her affinity than her age. and using atheneum would be cheating, so he'd let her pick.
