this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.
"Remember, we aren't here to buy stuff for you," Nicki Bunaj reminded as August as the two of them made their way into the shopping area. August gave off a sigh and nodded in agreement. She was on an official mission and the list in front of her was rather extensive. It was going to take some time to grab it all and even longer if she stayed around to even window shop for herself.
"Won't you come and help?" she eagerly asked her familiar. It was sort of crowded inside the area with adults and children alike running around with their own lists, preparing for whatever party they were throwing of their own. She was had been given instructions to meet up with her mission partner in front of this party supply store. Sally mae had assured her that both witches had been given the same list to mull over the night before the big shopping conquest.
"No thank you," the hare replied, "I'll give my input when time requires, but I'm not going to do your mission for you." August laughed at that statement, chuckling openly in public without concern that her sudden burst of laughter had startled a few children nearby. Even though he said he wasn't going to really help, she knew that was untrue. He loved to give his opinion on everything August did. The pink-haired girl had no clue what her mission partner looked like. She only had a name, something that was not very useful when the general public did not wear names tags for the fun of it.
It was entirely her fault for not knowing, a picture had been provided to her but August had been running late and forgot to take it with her alongside the list once she left the house. There had been a massive kitchen emergency in the store and she was in the back room the entire morning trying to figure out what to do about the lack of electric mixers. She could always mix by hand, but it would take too long and be too labor intensive. Rushing to the store to get them fixed before coming over here took much longer than she had anticipated and August did not want to be late. She was new to this whole thing and did not want to leave a bad first impression.

Great. Just great. Another mission that would put her within the general populace. It's fine, mostly, as she has been made aware recently that, despite the huge number of people at her concerts... no one seems to be aware that it's her, when seen outside of the stage. Still, Raven always complains, and this instance isn't the exception. Still, she puts on a different look than usual, opting to tie her hair up in a single bun, with a portion of her hair hanging loose, like a ponytail.
The witch and the familiar has been inside the store for a quite a while now, and had picked off some items off the list... It's a long, long shopping list, so they might as well get started. No one minds Raven and Dai, and the witch doesn't know if she should be thankful or not. There are some meaningful glances at her direction, but fortunately, not one idiotic enough to just scream her name in public.
They circle the store once, and then again, until they are back at the entrance. All the while Raven has been looking for a certain pink-haired girl who is supposed to be her shopping partner for the day. Raven spots her standing outside of the store. Oh, right, the instructions.
"Wait here," she tells Dai, before leaving him the basket and pushing past the glass doors. She taps the girl's shoulder, coming from behind. "Hey," she greets casually. She takes a moment to look at the girl. She seems rushed and unsure, and so Raven takes the liberty to take the lead. "August, right, for Ms. Sally's request? Come inside, me and my familiar has started a bit early."

The sudden tap on the shoulder made August jumped slightly. She was on the lookout, yet somehow managed to still be caught off guard. Before a yelp of surprise could leave her mouth, the shoulder tapper spoke first. “Yes, I am August. It’s nice to meet you!” she beamed with a smile so wide her eyes closed. So here was her shopping partner; August was beginning to remember maybe seeing a glimpse of that hair on the documents she had been sent about the mission. Hair was one of the most distinguishing features about strangers.
“Oh, awesome! Sorry, I didn’t want to start shopping around until after I found ya. You know, just in case we ended up pulling the same stuff and had to put things back,” she explained. The list was extensive and if the both of them had started on their own she was sure there would have been some repeats. “What have you got so far? So I can cross it off mine too,” she asked. Pen and list at the ready, August followed Raven inside.
She carefully avoided the small mass of children running around the store with their parents. “Busy today, isn’t it?” she commented with a laugh as she tiptoed her way around two twin girls who were arguing about what color their invitation envelopes for their joint birthday party should be.
“I read over the list before coming here. I’m kinda jealous about the kind of party this girl is getting,” August chuckled, “I never got anything this extravagant growing up. You know, at one point I was the one baking my own birthday cake!” That last part was less of a thing her parents forced on her and more of a thing August insisted on doing in order to slightly show off to her attendees. Plus, it gave her a chance to try out weird flavors and decorations. If it didn’t look too good or taste that great, it was okay because she was her own customer. It would have been worse if she experimented when it came to other people’s cake orders.

She's here, also, probably had been waiting for a while now. Raven feels almost no guilt. Afterall, she's used to making people wait. She'd even delay her shows when she feels like it. Not the best work etiquette, she knows, but then again, she is worth the wait. Raven almost does not disappoint at the performance. "Nice to meet you too. My name is Raven," Raven manages, smiling a little just to return the bright expression. She makes sure lower voice as she says her name. They start to make their way inside the store again. Raven is three steps ahead as she leads them to Dai.
Dai nudges the shopping basket to the girls. Raven then lets go the shopping list, and it hangs at least three feet, with text too small for liking. August would have the same list, too. "Let's see, so far we got the balloons, little pompoms, glitter, and decorative paper. That's about it. With how long the list is, I won't be surprised if we get to pick up everything on this store. Maybe not the halloween ones though. Oh, and yeah, think we should add more of these thing?" Raven holds up three packets of colorful paper, dangling it with two fingers.
It's indeed busy today. What's worse, every small children looks at Dai and tries to touch his antlers. Raven knows the stag is just keeping his calm in order to keep his antlers from bursting with fire. It won't be good. "Yes, and they're annoying my familiar," Raven whispers amidst the squeals of small humans.
Raven glares at the twins screaming at each other. The girl seems to notice, and she pushes the boy out of the way. Oh, she doesn't know that would work. She is only paying half-attention to August's chatter as she is looking at the list again. The woman just want out of this cramped space. What catches her attention though, is not her sob story, but the mention that she used to make her own birthday cakes.
Raven glances at her, a fine eyebrow raised. "Did you just say you can bake?" the girl asked suspiciously, before lightening her tone. "It's okay, because store-brought cakes are either bland or too sweet. I get a bunch of them when I was a kid."
They arrive at the party hats section, and a look at the list confirms that yes, they are instructed to get a whooping 25 assorted of them. They even enumerated certain themes. Raven tchs before starting to pick. "Honestly? This kid is spoiled."

August crossed off the items on her list as Raven recited them out loud. Even though the list was stupidly long, she was happy to see that they had already made some progress on it. Luckily, it looked like most of the items would be common enough for them to find in stores, so the two of them and their familiars wouldn’t have to sit around and explain to their client once they returned with the supplies why they were missing things from the list.
“Sure!” August replied to Raven’s suggestion. She really had no idea what those decorative paper was being used for, but this wasn’t their money and they had been given a budget that was way larger than that would be needed, even for a list this size. “Mine won’t even come out,” August sighed as she watched the children mess with Dai. She thought about intervening, but it looked as if Raven already had things under control.
August began to collect more things and throw them into the shopping cart. “I have some paper crowns, fairy wings, and a beach ball over here,” she said as she started rummaging through a massive bin that was located a little to their left. It looked as if it was the return bin where people put their things they no longer wanted but didn’t want to bother walking back to the shelves where they got them to put the things back. There was such a random assortment of goods, August couldn’t imagine what else it would be for. She threw the beach ball at the cart, but her aim was off as the ball missed and rolled a few feet.
“Oh, yes! I run a bakery with my parents,” she chirped as she ran over to pick the beach ball up from the ground to deposit it gently into the cart. “Oops,” she remarked with a giggle and a grin.
“Well, it works out for us. We wouldn’t have this job if she wasn’t,” August remarked as she stood up on her tip toes to scan around the area for the next few items on their list. “Let’s head over to that aisle over there for the craft supplies,” she said as she pointed at the back wall. It looked calmer down there, probably because kids couldn’t just play with craft supplies out in the open. Most of the stuff was wrapped up or packaged and parents knew they’d have to pay for anything their kids messed with.

Around this time Raven has familiarized herself with the task. Shopping is an errand she can classify as a hobby, and that applies to whatever kind of shopping it is. Thankfully Mrs. Cloverfield's lifestyle matches hers, so the duo is just practically storming aisle after aisle getting whatever they need. With August's affirmative she picks up one more bundle of decorative paper and drops it on the cart.
"Huh," Raven muses. "Out of sheer curiosity, what is your familiar like? As you can see Dai is just Dai. He likes to dress up for occasions."
Dai is quick to rebuff such claim with a gruff voice. "She likes to dress me up for occasions." But Raven is already moving on, and instead tells Dai to get the wide-brimmed hat from the highest shelf. Dai carefully maneuvers so he could get the thing on his antlers, which Raven in turn drops on the cart.
"All right," Raven says absentmindedly as August runs off to pick up the beach ball. She skims through the long list and scratches out the four items they recently got. Dai pushes the cart with his antlers, displaying excellent maneuverability in a space admittedly narrower than what he would be comfortable with. It's wide enough to let two persons stand with their arms sidewards, so it's doable.
Upon the mention of the bakery, Raven pauses and mulls over the new information. "Hey, that's infinitely better. I'm going to assume you don't mass produce your goods, so the sweetness is on point. Remind me to order one from you." She has been thinking about it for so long... her time doesn't permit her to actually scout for smaller bakeries. She might as well give it August's a try. "Oh, I mean, if it's running up to date, of course."
Raven follows the girl, on the way picking up one packet of san rios, plain headbands... oh, these are all hair accessories. Nice. They arrive at the back wall, where the craft supplies are located. Finally the children are gone. Dai shakes his fur, wiggling his white tail last. "Huh, so what do we got here.... watercolor, brushes, crayons... Dai, can you get us another cart?"
Dai leaves immediately then... and returns just as quickly with an empty cart. Raven eyes him suspiciously. He holds his head high. "I found an empty one nearby."

“Well,” August laughed in response, “I guess I could say Nicki is just Nicki too. Although, it’s a lot easier for me to tell how he’s feeling than it is for him to tell how I’m feeling. His coat changes colors depending on his mood; that’s why he’s a mix of brown and white right now even though snowshoe hares don’t tend to stay in the mixed colored phase during their seasonal coat changes for that long.” It had been something about Nic that August noticed a long time ago, although admittedly embarrassingly later than she should have picked up on it.
“Yes!” she exclaimed happily as she clapped her hands together, “definitely stop by if need a custom order. Everything is baked that morning by hand, so we can guarantee freshness. My parents are technically the ones who own it, but I’ve been helping them out for as long as I can remember. I guess it’s considered a family business at this point.” She wasn’t sure if it was something she wanted to do full time once she was older.
August didn’t mind helping out right now, but she couldn’t imagine having only the bakery to dedicate her life and soul to. She always had felt as if there was more out there for her than just that.
Without even noticing the record speed in which Dai found an empty cart, August began to fill it with the supplies Raven had begun to list out loud. “At this rate, I don’t think it’s going to take us as long as we thought,” she chuckled. Getting all this stuff back to the house was going to be task of its own, but August figured whatever service they’d have to hire in order to transport it all was going to be reimbursed by the rich woman.
“Do you think there are any other stores around here we should visit?” she asked as she gave the list another look over to see whether or not anything else they could pick up would be lining the aisles of this particular store. “I’d assume so,” Nic chimed in as he deposited a packet of foam stickers into the shopping cart Dai had brought over, “we’ve almost done a full loop around this one and there are still a few things on there that we haven’t come across.”
Post by raven delacroix on Jun 24, 2018 4:36:52 GMT
At the new information, Raven laughs while Dai cringes. Scenes runamok on Raven's head. "Ehhh it must be hard for Nicki to hide her emotions, huh? She's literally an open book. It must be funny when you two are disagreeing and her words doesn't match her emotions." Raven shots Dai a sly glance while the buck huffs. Oh, god, she's about to say it...
And she does. "Dai is in the same temperament. His antlers catch fire when he is fired up, literally, or when he panics. It's rare, but when it happens it's sooo funny," the white-haired woman snickers. Dai just hopes she won't get too specific, like, retelling that time with a wild hedgehog.
August's parents work hard to be able to keep a business going. Judging from the crimson-haired woman's narrative it isn't a big business, and Raven respects the fact that they are still standing even with the greedy capitalists around. She has a close friend like that, and she knows the struggle of smaller business staying afloat in this world of intense competition. Ah, yes, a visit is indeed worthy. However she has to stay low-profile... or...
Wait...
Raven flashes August a genuine smile. "Your parents are lovely. I'm definitely going to pay a visit."
She has to think it through, though, especially how is she going to forward the message to August. But! First, this mission. She looks at the list, and half of the items are already crossed out. And they have... two carts full of goods.
Raven pouts. "Ah, we should check out, now, I suppose. There are a bunch of party supplies outside so we won't have to walk for a long time carrying all these bags."

"Excuse me," the rabbit huffed in response, "I have more self-control in situations regarding my emotional state than this one does," he said as he gestured towards August. The girl giggled in response as any type of verbal reply wasn’t going to paint her in a good light. It was true, but he didn’t have to go pointing it out! Her smile beamed harder when she imagined the other familiar’s antlers catching on fire. What a sight that would be to see! Maybe she’d have the chance one day if the two of them ever ended up running another mission together again.
She was proud of herself for bringing another potential patron to her family’s establishment. They could always use more business, especially if the business was happy enough that they were a repeating customer. That’s how small business had to stay afloat nowadays; while the bigger companies could bring in the casuals, the smaller ones had to develop a loyal following.
“Oh, yes! I feel bad for whoever is going to be doing the scanning for us, but I guess it’s business for them right?” she asked. They did have a lot on them, but it was all goods they were paying for. Sure, it might be annoying for the cashier to deal with, but a steady stream might be preferred over checking out one or two items per guest down a line. She started wheeling her cart towards the entrance, looking around for whatever line is shortest. “Far left,” Nic instructed as he hopped in that general direction, standing on his hind legs to get a better view.
She followed his instructions without even glancing at the other lines. With a slight kick, August pushed the cart with her foot a little faster than she had meant to and almost slammed it against a display. With a yip and a sudden swerve, she managed to only clip it slightly. The display shook a little, but nothing ultimately fell. As Nic hopped over to examine the damaged, all August could do was wince. “Lucky, lucky,” Nic cautioned as he hopped away back towards the cashier. There was barely a dent, but given it was cardboard it was unreasonable to assume there wasn’t a little bit of damage.

Oh, Raven remembers that one time with the wild hedgehog. Dai really dislikes hedgehogs for some reason. They're simple creatures that doesn't pose much of a threat, still Dai absolutely despises them and their cuddly nature. They have spikes, which Dai claims, hurts him when he's not too careful. The stag tolerates captive hedgehogs more than the wild ones, since the former hedgehogs are effectively contained inside cages. Raven giggles with that memory, and bursts laughing as the rabbit retorts to August's claim. They're so cute together.
Dai, unwilling to incriminate himself, starts to push one cart towards the counter. The children finally leaves him alone--thank Merlin--and so he is able to do the task with no relative difficulty. Right, it's time for them to check-out.
Man, just looking at the sheer amount of goods.... they're limbs are about to get some exercise. Dai manages to get the cart to the cashier's, however August seems to be having a little trouble. Raven winces in anticipation at the potential impact and the crash of the shelf... which never comes. "Goodness gracious," Raven breathes a sigh of relief. Luckily for them there is barely any damage to property. They would have to pay for any destroyed goods, after all.
"I don't think so," Raven says suddenly. "I mean, we could charge the client for... any additional charge, right? They seem gracious and rich, too, what with the amount of things they want all for a single children's part." There's just so many. Raven starts to put the goods into the scanner, to which the cashier operates with haste. Probably pressured from the two full baskets. Beach volleyballs, stickers, colored paper, glitter, scissors and plain masks, the list stretches on....
After what seem to be an eternity, Raven's basket is emptied. Now she's faced with a heavy bag of party goods. Raven moves ahead and pats the bag twice. "All right--oh Merlin, this is going to be heavy."
