this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.
The bed was white. It was kind of angelic. Red hair forcing the eye to dance towards it in contrast to the pureness of the bed like the redness of the suns flames. A fitting match to the now golden blonde hair upon his own head. Eyelids closed, fluttering softly like a dream. It was like watching sleeping beauty slip off into a peaceful dream.
There was the gentle beep of the iv pump slowly pushing fluids into the young mans veins. Nothing but some much needed hydration after the blood loss he had suffered. It was the least of his worries. Healing magic is really something he should buckle down on more. He felt like with this boy he would need it.
"Hopefully this helps..." He said with some of his mana pouring into a crystal on the table near the bed. It glowed with his touch as he used Crystal Shard to help gather mana to the area to aid in his friends recovery. While it wasn't helpful with his physical wounds it would help his body recover its mana and stamina.
He was the only one in the hospital room at the moment with the boy. He was one of the few who had not left the hospital grounds since arriving. Word had spread with the events of what had occurred. He didnt pay any mind to them. What mattered was aiden emerson was nearly killed. Tha was something he could not abide.
Death. The Hanged Man. Judgement. These cards were the closest to his feelings at the moment. He would have to consult them later on what to do. What he should do now is wait for him to wake up. He cannot sleep forever after all. Right? Right?

[attr="class","a1scroll"] Consciousness came in waves. At first, it’s the vague stopping of the dream state, there’s not dream anymore just darkness. Then its slowly opened up: the beeping of medical equipment, the vague smell of disinfectant, the coldness of unfamiliar sheets. Aiden was unwilling to open his eyes, squeezing them shut selfishly as he clung to the last dregs of sleep. And then it hits all at once as his eyes open and he’s overloaded with questions. Green eyes darken with panic and confusion. His heart rate sky rockets, and his body tensed shooting out pain from his side as he begins to move more. He turned his head scanning the ceiling of the room before looking over at his visitor.
[break][break]
He doesn’t recognize Charani in his state, and only after noting the same eyes, the worried expression, he relaxed. “heEy-” he stopped himself abruptly noting the scratchy feeling of his dry throat and the hoarseness of his voice. He can tell he’d been patched up, wrapped in bandages and cotton. The exposed skin on his forearms are covered in almost gone pockmark scars. Whether it was form magic or time he couldn’t be sure. He sat up, pushing up off the bed in what he had hoped would be a fluid movement. It wasn’t. His body shook as he moved his side. His arms trembled as they tried to support him, protesting for his body to stay still. Aiden ignored the order, moving despite it. He managed to get himself seated, resisting the urge to press on his side despite the flaring up of sensitivity. “Hey. How long have you been there, Charani?” he asked, mustering a well-rested smile for his best friend.
[break][break]
He could get a better look at the room. Definitely a hospital. He remembered this form the incident in the house of mirrors. Concern came over him for a moment before he pushed the thought aside. He didn't want to think about how he’d ended up in the hospital. Instead his eyes travel around the room. It’s small, but private. Just him in this room, with a nice window view that had been left open to allow some cool night breeze in. The sky outside was purple, the furthers edges from his vision black with night. Had he gotten a fever? He looked at his clothes, which for the most part were just a long hospital gown and his underwear. The ones he’d worn to the tournament…?
[break][break]
He looked back at the blonde, staring at brand new golden locks and then, riddled with guilt, searching for roots to see how long ago it had been. Aiden hadn’t seen Charani in weeks, and now…he was meeting up with him under tense circumstances: after their awkward dream conversation and after he’d gone down in the arena. Ease yourself into it. McKenna whispered into his mind as he began to spiral inside his own brain. Aiden averted his eyes, looking down at the crystal his friend had been messing with. Was that why he felt refreshed despite his wounds…? “Thanks for visiting me. How've you been?”

There was stirring in the bed... the monitor spiking as it often did when someone was in pain. This was not the first time the thing had done this very thing. Someone would probably be in if it alarmed for enough time. They had before.
His right arm remained outstretched as he finished his crystal spell to promote stamina regeneration. Aiden was staring at him before he finished. He looked better than the young man though he would given his injuries. That was a plus. The red heads voice was hoarse... dry. It was kind of cute to hear despite the sadness behind why it was like that.
"You had us worried..." He said with a calm tone to his voice. His eyes showed only a small trace of worry in them like they were trying to hide a lake by making it look only like a puddle. Deeper than it looks.
"How is your pain?" he asked to boy as he took his arm away from the crystal. It continued to glow without his input indicating the spell was complete. It was kind of pretty... sparkly. Completely different from the very medical looking room around them. Sterile. "I feel better now that you're awake."

[attr="class","a1scroll"] Us. Plural. There’s a crack in the smiling facade as the realization dawned on him. Of course, Charani would be informed of his injuries. They were part of the same coven…but his grandparents? The tournament had been publicized to the entire continent, practically. He’d told them to watch. He’d told them to watch-“Yeah…” The smile is forgotten briefly as Charani’s words sink in. He’d almost died. He- He’d seen his mom. He’d been on the precipice of existence itself and he’d miraculously bounced back thanks to Miss Lunacea. The redhead swallowed, struggling to get down anything.
[break][break]
“Minimal. Just some aching around the stab…” he explained trying to keep up an upbeat demeanor. It wasn’t easy, but I mean, he was alive right? He could probably walk. He could see clearly and he wasn’t missing anything or note. The ginger did his best to gage his friend who lacked the usual cheer. Though, given the circumstances he didn’t blame him. Aiden would just have to take it up himself, if only to lighten the mood. He wondered if Charani had been there himself or if he’d watched it on a screen. “That’s good. I’m fine now, anyway.” He stated with as much confidence as he could pull form inside himself, which wasn’t much.
[break][break]
“Charani, you didn’t answer me.” He prodded as he raised a hand to touch the crystal next to his bed. It kind of reminded him of the warding crystals they’d set in their dream. “How long have you been here? Did you eat or sleep while I was out?” he asked, basking in the coolness of the crystal as he pressed a fingertip into it. He thought he could feel it pulsing with energy. “I’m…kind of relieved you’re here, but don’t skip meals on my behalf…” he added hesitantly.

His pain was minimal. Good. That means whatever the doctors had done with their magic worked like a charm. That or whatever pain suppression they were using on him was working like a champ. Thank god for alchemy.
"Good... then...." He said quickly shooting his arm forward towards the other boy grabbing for his ear. Unfortunately for Aiden he was injured so it was just a roll of the dice if he could avoid his wrath... and the odds didnt look good.
If he managed to get his fingers around the boys ear he would pull like a parent dragging their child out of the store for misbehaving. He would pull the boys face towards his own, eyes staring at him.
"Dumbass. Don't worry me like that...." he would say with a stern fatherly voice. He had obviously been very worried about the other male's condition. His eyes looked red but otherwise fairly okay. He was a little tired but he had stayed up for days at a time before thanks to his previous nightmares so one day was nothing.
The crystal would glow brighter when touched by the other boy reacting to his mana or touch perhaps? Who was to say. "Your grandmother is in the cafeteria now getting food." He was hands to himself by this point at the very least. He was only being a little mean. Of course who knows when the boys grandmother would come back with her snacks. He had the strange feeling she was taking a while on purpose. He wasnt sure why though.

[attr="class","a1scroll"] He’d been so calm before…he hadn’t realized there’d been danger lurking just below the surface. He idly looked up at Charani, staring as the hand darted towards him. He began to twist out of the way only for his injury to protest, sharp pain shooting through whatever haze of numbness his body had been put under. “AAAH! Cha- Charani stop!” he whined, as he leaned into the pull to lessen the strain on his beloved ear, one of the things he hadn’t hurt in the fight prior. Forced to look at his friend he grimaced, one of his hands on Charani’s as he attempted to regain control of his ear not enjoying the scolding.
[break][break]
“D-Didn’t you fight a giant duneworm?!” the redhead added in protest. How had this been any different. It seemed like both were close levels of deadliness, in his humble opinion. Aiden had worried all the same when he’d shown up at his home. Thankfully, he hadn’t needed a lot of medical attention. Just a lot of antiseptic and a nice bath. Then again, stepping up to a terrorist and taking her one hostage probably wasn’t the same at all.
[break][break]
“I won’t- now let go, I’ve been hurt enough!” he continued, almost petulantly. Hopefully no medical staff was nearby. He didn’t want them to witness him getting reprimanded by Charani. Too embarrassing. “It’s not like I planned this happening anyway!!” He had barely thought anything out at all. Any and all plans were quickly scraped one way or another. Still, it’d been serious and there wasn’t really much he could do about it. Not with how publicized the whole thing had been. “I-I’m fine now. So, you should rest.” He added, ashamed he’d even worried him this much. “Rest and release my ear. I’m still a patient-” he coughed, all the talking forcing that uncomfortable itch in the back of his throat to get worse. A wheeze slipped out and he covered his mouth and turned his head to avoid his friend’s face. He took a moment to gather his voice and settle his throat before lowering his hand and speaking slowly. “I know, and I’m sorry.”
[attr="class","a1notes"]enjoy the uWu softboi content Charani Petrov
"You deserve this completely I hope you know that. And that duneworm is totally different and you know it." He was never very close to that worm during the entire fight to be honest. He was also pretty much just playing support in a group of very powerful witches not single handedly trying to go after a terrorist.
He would release the boys ear and try to pinch his friends cheeks with some force like he was a girl in an anime scolding a boy for being dumb. He was dumb. Very dumb.
"Okay. I think that's enough punishment for now." He would totally keep his hands away from the other boy now, grabbing a bottle of water from the nightstand where the crystal had been to give to redhead for his throat.
"Promise me you will be more careful from now on." They were still alone at this point. So he had time to bully the redhead like he deserved. And boy did he deserve it. Useless.
He was not really tired at all. He didnt feel like he could sleep even if he was tired to be honest. "I'm not tired thank you." He would sleep when he left. He would sleep so much easier later knowing Aiden was alright.

[attr="class","a1scroll"] Aiden did his best to nod in agreement. The last thing he wanted to do was worry his friends and family. He barely asked anything of them nowadays. Slipping like this was unseemly. It hit hard in different ways, and after Charani’s display he knew more of this was waiting for him the minute he went home. And he would be going home, else the Cunninghams showed up at the Helios Knights and barged their way in like the crotchety old people they were. There was a pause in that train of thought as he remembered the Emersons and that headache that was waiting for him as well. He looked about the room again for a sign of their presence, a card or a piece of fruit. He spotted in the corner of the room a vase of flowers. Calming whites and soft periwinkles and light blues. Not visitors, but a warning to come home immediately no doubt.
[break][break]
He winced as the blonde moved his attacks from his bright red ear to his cheek letting out a complaint. “Taaa waaahneeeee!” He covered his face as soon as his cheek was released, rubbing hard to help dull the bite of the blonde’s nails in his skin. “For now?!” The guy was probably waiting for him to be fully recovered before he really let him have it. How he would do that, he had no idea. Charani never came across as the violent type. Aiden took the bottle, fumbling with it for a moment before taking a cautious sip. When that went down smoothly he tilted his head back and began chugging until he was about halfway before letting out a sigh of relief. Now his mouth didn’t feel stuffed with cotton. “Yes…I promise.” Next time he would plan better, be more prepared. He would divert some of his time from purification to healing magic. Any kind really. What he’d had was sufficient, but it was only really effective for himself. Others? He only had spools and they could only do so much on severe wounds.
[break][break]
Oh- He hadn’t even looked at his legs yet. His calves had been punctured to shit back there… Then again, the doctors were also witches. He didn't know about magic that regenerated lost muscle tissue but, if it didn’t feel like a problem now it was probably fine. He set the bottle on his lap, quirking a small smile at his friend before shrugging slightly. “Alright, if you say so.” He hoped the dreamcatcher was still working. And after what he’d witnessed, he would probably be making more of them for him, just in case. “Nice hair by the way. Why’d you change it?” he asked after a while, nodding at Charani’s newfound gold locks. “Getting ready for spring?”
[attr="class","a1notes"]enjoy the uWu softboi content Charani Petrov
"You didnt think this would be enough punishment did you?" He had a small smile on his lips with this phrase. It was devilish... almost wicked. Unnerving. Unlike him... or at least unlike the lovestruck boy Aiden was very used too.
The redhead gulped down the water he received like a man who spent the last thousand years in the desert wandering. Waiting for death to arrive but it has abandoned him. Green eyes just stared at the young man as he did. Comfortable silence save the sound of drinking.
"Good. I'll be holding you to that promise." He would totally hold his friend to that promise. He could expect a punishment when he broke it... or worse yet interference from the seer when he tried. Nothing was more dangerous to your plans than a psychic who didn't want them to happen after all.
"I just wanted a change. Do you like it? Its a lot more... golden than I thought it would be." Not that he had been trying to go like bleach blonde but it did turn out more sun colored than he thought. That kind of bright gold that matched very tanned skin more than his own olive skin.

[attr="class","a1scroll"] Aiden tried to suppress the shiver that threatened to flow down his back, if only because the trembling would’ve irritated his side. Still, it was an odd change. He tried to remember the last time Charani had been like that with him. Then again, when had been the last time he’d acted so recklessly? It kind of reminded him of the costume party, when their costumes had begun making them act weird. Then again, maybe it was just Gloria Silverleaf pulling on parts of their personality that had been there all along. He averted his eyes as he made a mental note to review those notes later. “I- Uhh…I had hoped it was-” he returned pathetically.
[break][break]
The knight cleared his throat. Why did he feel a bit worried? Not like he intended on acting recklessly- Or well… the thing with his dad would probably be dangerous, but there was still time before he made it to that. He couldn’t in this state, so easily defeated with nothing to show for it. No information on Metnal or the terrorist, unsuccessful in protecting his charge. A total bust as far as he was concerned.
[break][break]
“Oh- Well it’s a nice change.” Aiden replied as he gave a nod at Charani. “It’s different, but I like it.” The change had been jarring at first, but it was still his friend. He fell silent unsure what else to say. Would he leave now that he was conscious? They hadn’t spoken face to face in so long. Even Christmas gifts had been sent in the mail instead of personally exchanged. The messages between them had been few and far in between. It was his fault in the first place for avoiding it all, so he shouldn’t complain. Still, all that time spent away, and he still didn’t know how to remedy it. He took another sip from the bottle, brow furrowing as he tried to think of something to say again.
[break][break]
“Let’s catch up- I mean, if you have time right now.” He blurted out flashing a nervous smile at his companion as he turned his head back to him. “I wouldn’t mind hearing what you’ve been up to lately. You know, I-” He didn’t have a right to say that. Not after what he’d done. Not after he’d stayed away. ’I missed you.’ was too selfish to utter. “I got…a job.”
[attr="class","a1notes"]enjoy the uWu softboi content Charani Petrov
"Hopefully that will keep you out of trouble." He doubted it would. Aiden had never acted so recklessly since they had known each other at the very least. Well there was that time with the haunted house and possible zombies but he had been blinded by his crush at that point...a mistake he wouldnt make again.
The redhead at least agreed that the look was fine. He wasnt going to change it regardless but it was nice to know the other boy didnt hate it. It kind of reminded him of Percy. It was similar in color at least though not as shaggy or natural. It was oddly comforting.
He wanted to catch up? He was fine with this. It had been Charani who had stubbornly waited for Aiden to initiate contact. He did... just not in the way he hoped. So maybe it was a little bit his fault that they didnt spend time together since the incident. At least more than should have probably existed.
"I don't have anything to do today so that is fine.." He wasnt going to admit it was because he had cleared his entire day when he found out about the male's hospitalization. No. That wouldnt help the guilt that was unspoken between them. It wouldnt help at all.
"A job? Like for your family? Or something else?." He had avoided saying what he had been up too. Not on purpose. He just hadnt been doing much different than he normally would. Learning more about divination from Ezra when she found the time. He had forgone his purification training for healing magic. He felt it was a better use of his time... of their time. Not to help heal Aiden or anything. Nope.

[attr="class","a1scroll"] The redhead nodded, not wanting to think about his consequences. It wouldn’t do him any good to imagine what Charani could or would do to him for almost getting himself killed. It was probably just better to accept it and move on. He wouldn’t think on it now in any case. Instead he fiddled with his pillow, resting against the headboard of the bed so he could lean back. He was careful not to tug on his IV drip, though most of the bag was used up anyway.
[break][break]
He hadn’t been looking forward to trying to fall back asleep and perked up when Charani announced he was free, miraculously. How lucky for him. He didn’t even think twice on it, glad to have someone to help distract from his own thoughts for the time being. As awkward as it still sort of felt. “Yes- well, kind of.” Aiden began as he tugged the sheets closer to keep from getting too cold. “It was a family recommendation…but I work without interference.” He began. “I’m more or less an assistant/bodyguard to the Mr. jiayi lin . He’s an heir, and a longtime business associate with the Emersons…I guess?” How else would they have found him the vacant position so quickly if not from hearing about it at some gathering he’d not been present at. Of course they had volunteered and accepted the job for him, so it didn’t really matter whether he was there or not.
[break][break]
Despite the lack of choice around it, he didn’t mind his employer too much. Despite being a businessman, he seemed pretty relaxed at times. Aiden did his best not to disappoint anyway. “It’s a lot of time management and phone calls to make or cancel appointments.” He hadn’t needed to bodyguard but if the opportunity showed up he was more than capable. It was just a bonus on the resume at this point, nothing more. Especially not in his current state. “It’s a lot more business than I care for.” He went quiet, looking over at Charani and taking in once more the new hair and calmer attitude. He didn’t seem upset with him. Nevertheless, he felt on edge. Or maybe it was just a strange paranoia that he was dreaming all over again and he really was dead. Or on the verge of it anyway. He swallowed, pushing away the thoughts and trying to calm down. “You?”
[attr="class","a1notes"]enjoy the uWu softboi content Charani Petrov
"That sounds... interesting. If you need me to give your employer a talking too let me know." He cracked his knuckles at the idea. He could sick his grandmother on the poor man. It wouldnt be the first time she had used her... influence in a way that was... lets just say less than reputable.
The redhead went on to explain what he did. It sounded all fairly mundane... though he was not that big a fan of the bodyguard part of it. That probably had more to do with the current injured state of Aiden than anything else. At least he knew the name to go to if something ever happened to Aiden. Whose limbs to break.
"Sounds like a lot of secretary work. How's school going? Or are you still doing that?" He wasnt going to admit to having checked up on anything like that. Maybe cornering someone for information or helping out when the opportunity arose. He hated how the redheads family probably approved of the lengths he would go.
"Hmmm. I spent some time with Ezra. She says hello by the way and said you need to visit. Ive been here a lot too." He had been working to get better with medical magic... he was so very tired of fighting. Being able to heal Aiden was just a bonus. A very big and loved bonus. Maybe he should think about going back to school.

[attr="class","a1scroll"] Aiden watched quietly, caught off guard by his friend but nevertheless choosing to assume it was a joke. Even if his words really didn’t feel like a joke. “I… don’t think it’ll come to that. He’s a good employer. His family’s just…tough to deal with I guess. I dunno. Not really my business.” He said trying to give Mr. Lin a bit of slack. After all, it wasn’t his fault if he got hurt or sick. It was Aiden’s own for being irresponsible. “Yeah it’s pretty much that…” he said with a small sigh. Tedious, but easy enough to handle while balancing schoolwork, personal studies, and knight duties. For the most part he didn’t get much of that since he was a student…and now that he was injured he got the feeling the next few months would quiet, with management keeping him further and further away after the failure in the tournament.
[break][break]
“School’s alright. I’ve taken to signing up for the bare minimum to ensure I have enough time for everything else in my life.” Aiden replied. His classes were easy enough to understand. Not to mention he had access to an array of personal tutors if he didn’t. And of course, the vice grip his family’s influence he saw peeking out when he wasn’t careful. He liked to think they had more honor than that, but he’d already watched them try to cannibalize each other’s status as their last Christmas dinner. It had…not gone well.
[break][break]
“Ohh- Oh??” He wasn’t exactly sure how to take Charani’s mentor asking him for a visit. Frankly he was terrified of her, not wanting to displease or insult someone Charani looked up to. He wasn’t the smoothest of edges when it came to that. “Of course! If Lady Ezra wants me there I’ll… um…I’ll make time for it. If you say its ok- I don’t want to intrude on your studies with her…” He said, looking down at his lap already feeling the pressure. He definitely couldn’t fuck this up. He was already in hot water with Charani. Not that he’d done much to make him feel it but he’d made a questionable choice, and he knew he had to remedy it.
[break][break]
“Here? You’ve been interning in the hospital?” the witch asked, tilting his head. It seemed even if the tournament fight hadn’t been publicized, Charani still had many means of quickly finding out. Aiden made a note of this. He’d have to work harder keep himself healthy if he didn’t want Charani to punish him inside a hospital room once more. “I hope its been going well then. Sounds interesting.” It suited him. He could have easily pictured Charani as a nurse or a doctor taking care of people. He had the personality for it anyway. Then again, the whole ‘punishment of the injured’ thing may not do too well.
[break][break]
“Is that how you knew I was here…?” he began after staring for a moment at the flowers in the corner of the room. “Or did you…watch?”

"As long as you're being a good boy I'll take your word for it." There would be dire consequences otherwise. He wasn'tsure what those consequences would be but they would be very bad. Super bad. The baddest. Huge.
School was going well. That was good. He was glad the other boy was keeping up with his stuff. He better keep it that way... though given his family he wouldnt put it past them to do something... less than reputable to help him without telling him. Not that he wouldnt do something like that... just probably not nearly as illegal or morally bankrupt.
"You're fine. You wouldnt be intruding. Its a lot of her trying to gently lead me to an answer instead of just telling me. It can be kind of boring sometimes." He wasn't going to lie and say it was all fun and games when he learned from her. Sure she was very respected and good at what she did but aside from the more tangible powers like telepathy Ezra wasn't the most direct when it came to teaching. Maybe it was a seer thing?
"Yes. I wanted to learn more about healing magic so this seemed like the best place. It's how I got better with this crystal spell truthfully. Stamina and mana regeneration boost." He might even go back to school to learn more about this stuff. He did have all those credits that he kind of just let go when he dropped out.
He wasn't exactly sure what he should do. He did know he wanted to help... and he wasn't much of the temperament to fight despite his copious amounts of combat experience. It just didn't sit well with him.
How did he find out? That was easy. Neither option was correct. "You're grandmother told me. That is how I found out you were here." He had of course heard about something bad happening but he didn't much care for the arena fighting since he lost so he didn't watch or go to see it.
