this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.
Well the first mission he took was definitely not what he expected. From crazy alchemists apprentices to magical storms in the sewer... At least he got a taste of what a witches life was like. And of course there was still the nightmare he had to endure. But that was in the past and he had to stop thinking about that time or he'd never move on. Sybil wanted to laugh and smile again, do something he enjoyed. So obviously when he saw this mission posted, he snatched it up without a second thought.
Spending ages in the library surrounded by magical books and looking for a runaway one just sounded amazing! Maybe if he sorted it out quickly, he'd be able to spend the rest of the day reading? There was no time to waste, Sybil hurried through the doors like a little boy running into a candy store. "Wow..." he'd mutter under his breath, taking in the gargantuan size of the place and the huge shelves full to the brim with books.
"It's... Huge." he'd say in awe again, not even sure where to begin. Well actually, first he had to find the other person joining him on the mission, and then maybe find the person in charge? So for now, Sybil would wait near one of the tables near the entrance, hoping he'd be able to spot someone who looked fairly 'missiony'.

Julius missed libraries. The library at MU had some of the fondest memories, and libraries, in general, were just part and parcel of the hipster aesthetic that clung to him like flies to trash. Well, that would be a comparison Erin might throw around, anyway.[break][break]
Anyway, the runaway book deal was as good of a deal as any other to spend more time in the library. He had been researching the library itself the first few rounds, but now that he had accepted the Sundial Library to be up to standard, he roamed around in search of good guides to add to his growing atheneum database.[break][break]
He had to catch up all those years he'd missed out on after all. [break][break] If Sybil was looking for "missiony", Julius could not be it-- dressed without a cape or a wand, he only had a v-necked black shirt with a white tee on the inside and casual trousers to go with. From the distance, he looked like he was walking while engrossed in a book. [break][break] He set the book to one side and looked around. When he spotted Sybil, he waved casually before an approaching. [break][break] "How's the dashing knight doing these days?" A lot had likely changed since then, but Julius's shitty grin had not.
This was so cruel! Sybil wasn't even allowed to look at any of these books, he just had to wait here for his partner and then search for a book that he probably wasn't allowed to read either. Ugh! He'd slouch a bit, resting back on the table with his hands either side of him, supporting his weight. Every time someone walked in, Sybil would do his best to make his presence known, hoping they may ask him if he's on the mission as well... But so far, all he saw were groups of families and the lovely Julius. Oh dear.
"D- Dashing knight?" he stuttered, only to remember their last encounter and how he just spent the entire time winding him up. "But I'm hardly a part of the coven still, I- I just... Never mind, there's no arguing with you is there?" Sybil had a feeling this would be a long day, especially if he had to do a mission with Julius in the same building as him. All he could think of is how him and his partner would be hard at work while Julius keeps following them around making life harder for them.
"Anyway," he said boldly, acting all smug, "I'm on a mission today, so don't be pestering me while I'm on official business."

"Aha!" Julius said, words themselves a snicker. "So you've finally learned." He had lost count about the number of times he had argued people down to the point where they had walked out of the room to not have to deal with him; Sybil's reaction to his presence was a triumphant reminder of this depressing acheivement.[break][break]
"Mission?" Julius asked, blank and genuinely curious. What kind of missions did grand knights of the order do in libraries like this? Oh wait. He almost forgot who he was dealing with. "Official business?" he clarified, and the curioisty turned to a slight provocation- cool and clearly insinuating. "Does that consist of finding a runaway book in this mess of a library?" [break][break]
He smiled and, from the pocket of his trousers he removed his witch license and flashed it briefly to Sybil (really only enough to catch sight of the shape and the meaning and hardy much of the details within). "Regardess of whether or not I'm correct, I'm afraid even I have "official business" to be attending to." [break][break] If he didn't get anything more than a confused stare, he'd take the reaction and disappear into the shelves to begin what would inevitably be an arduous journey [break][break]

Sybil Chime | juls going fastfast lmk if u want edits
Sybil wanted to just run off into this labyrinth of a library and stay away from Julius the entire time he's here. Once he gets the book, he can go and not waste another time in here with him. The witch shuddered, remembering the time Julius tricked Sybil into going into a brothel in the more unsavoury part of Sundial. He could never forgive him for that, the poor boy was so embarrassed by the whole situation that he almost started crying. He was just thankful that nobody really knew about that.
"Book?" He'd ask slowly, eyes widening within fear. Oh merlin, he thought, his mind scrambling as a piece of his soul broke away from him. "I have to work with... You?" He'd say, utterly shocked in disbelief. Sybil was so shocked in fact, that he had to pull a chair out and sit down on it, groaning with his face planted firmly in his palms.
"This is so unfair." A little whimper would escape from his lips as he looked up to evil incarnate, "Please just... Don't do anything stupid." And with that, Sybil would push his chair back and stand up, wondering over to the reception area where he could ask where it was last seen.

He hadn't really expected to run into a victim of his little misdirections again (it was supposed to be a big city, wasn't it?) but just because he did come face to face with someone he had tricked did not mean that there was much reason for embarrassment. His grin did not falter even when the brown haired boy had to sit down to relieve himself of shock.[break][break] Julius rolled his eyes, having hoped against all hope that maybe the boy's lament would be something useful. "Did you think you'd get paired with a lovely lass, hopefully around your age?" His smile returned at the next words the brunette muttered. "Sure, sure." [break][break] Julius watched the brunette get up and move to the receptionist. He didn't bother following Sybil- that would just be wasting time. Instead, he spotted a small map of the library some ways away plastered onto the wall. It gave a vague idea of where each aisle and shelf was, and Julius quickly stored it into his atheneum interface for future use. [break][break] He turned to where Sybil would probably be coming back. "Where to?" he asked, distracted and habitually readjusting his glasses in the manner that suggested he couldn't really care less about the mission's proceedings [break][break]
"Please stop talking." He'd mutter to himself, a fair distance away from Julius as he spotted a woman behind the counter. Sybil wondered if that man had a single working cell in his brain, or if he did, would he use it? Rolling his eyes at that thought, the fledgling flashed a friendly smile before leaning forwards a little bit. "Morning! I'm here on a mission to find a lost book? Thought I'd let you know me and..." he glanced at Julius with a straight face, "My partner have just arrived."
Grabbing a small leaflet with a map of the library, he'd unfurl it and place it down. "I was wondering if you could tell me where it's supposed to be, and any locations that people have seen it perhaps?" There was a pause before the woman flicked a finger and a pen started marking down crosses on the map. Three of them, then a circle which probably indicated where it should be.
"Uuhh? Thanks?" he'd reply, awkwardly grabbing the leaflet before walking back to where Julius was headed. "Just follow me." he said quickly, head buried in the map as he started heading into the labyrinth of books and scrolls.

His smile flickered and vanished from his face at the boy's dismissive remark-- he supposed there was little use in making small talk where it wasn't necessary or really needed. He wasn't really good at chatting up boys years younger than him anyway.[break][break] Julius rolled his eyes at the boy's self-important manner, although he supposed he hadn't exactly helped. Regardless, there was no reason for the mood to go sour. He smiled and when he said "Sounds like a plan" it almost (almost!) didn't sound sarcastic. He shoved his hands into his pockets and then trailed silently after Sybil.
Or really, you know, he would have. He honestly would have- but at that moment he caught sight of the spine of a palm-thick informative book and blinked; letting the brunette continue on without him. "The Untold History of Sundial" - or so the book's cover read. Now Julius had read quite a bit into the current affairs of Sundial since moving in, but hadn't really bothered with the history of the place. Outside from the typical legends of the heroic knights and the all-protecting pillars, and the dreary whispers of leviathan, he knew next to nothing. [break][break] And he hated knowing nothing. [break][break] Ignoring Sybil and whatever else the mission was, he pulled the book from the shelf and cracked in open- and in that moment he was swept into another time and another place. Sybil Chime | PLS LMK IF U NEED MORE TO WORK WITH ADSGAL
So far so good? The little witch wandered around with a place in mind and was not going to mess around. The routes were being sent straight to his head where he started making mental images of it, barely looking up to see where he was going. Luckily, he trusted his intuition and skills so much that he could probably do this without the map now. Everything was locked up there in his noggin, safe and sound!
Because he was so glued in getting to the marked locations, Sybil had absolutely no idea that Julius had decided to just... Well, stop. This whole time he had thought that Julius was being a good person and doing as he was told, little did Sybil know, he was relaxing a little bit too much.
"We're here!" he said excitedly, looking up to find himself at the edge of the library, the pathway stretching all the way down both ends. "Julius, you look that way and I'll go-" His face went blank. "Uhhh..."
Typical, trust that man to just vanish on a mission! How did he think he'd become more skilled if he just lounged around? "Fine!" Sybil huffed, gripping the map tightly from frustration and stomped off, eyes scanning the floor and shelves for any signs of movement.

The book was fascinating. Well-written too. An author he had never even heard of, but the language was excellently apposite to the task at hand. Which was, he registered vaguely, something of a semi-satirical account of the bloodied history of Sundial, mildly anarchist but still tasteful enough to keep nosy knights out of arm's reach.[break][break]
Julius only stopped reading to occasional adjust his glasses or lean into the seat in a way that was more comfortable-- wait, was he sitting on the floor? Julius did not really notice. The world faded, his atheneum interface grew weary with his idleness and flickered away. People crossed the aisle, mouthing causes as they had to hop over his outstretched feet.[break][break]
Behind him, outside of a looming window, the sun made its path downwards (or, he supposed, it was the earth moving instead, but that was only a supposition he could make if he had been paying attention in the first place). He was a good midway through the book when he did notice something, finally. [break][break] He noticed he was starving. [break][break] And when he looked up, he saw Sybil, the knight. His partner. Huh. Was the mission done then? "Oh, you're back alrea--" [break][break]

Sybil Chime | idk now im just assuming things dies
Nothing. Not even a little sign of this mysterious book. He had looked all over the place for it, bent over backwards trying to climb shelves and duck under tables. "Ugh." he grunted, rubbing his temples with index finger and thumb. Maybe he needed someone else's help? The corners of his mouth curled downwards into a frown -- he needed Julius. No! He didn't! But it would mean it would be a lot easier to do so?
With one big final sigh, Sybil started to make his way back, weaving in and out of the aisles until-
"JULIUS?!" Sybil's jaw dropped, eyebrows furrowing and hands balling into fists. Was this man really just sat here reading a bloody book this whole time?! "You've been sat here, reading! Do you have any idea how hard I've been searching?"
"SSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
It rung in his ears like a gong, people all over the show telling him to be quiet?! Did they not realise he's trying to find a missing book? Sybil was now very red with embarrassment and annoyance, he really did look like he could blow. Just one little thing and Sybil would fly through the roof.
"Oh you've got to be kidding me."
Hopping across the floor like a fish out of water, a large tome with a leather back slowly made its way to Juls, pages glowing with each hop. Much like a cat, it would land on Julius' lap and turned around a few times before settling, almost as if it were going to sleep.
The poor witch was utterly paralysed with shock, his eyes wide and practically white with rage, you could almost see the thunder cloud raging above his head. There were no words. He was speechless.

[attr="class","paige_post"] Empathy was a taxing skill. Julius had only ever really managed it for two people: Cassidy, and his sister. When the man shouted his name, he only felt a vauge sting of something remiscent of shame (the sensation of when, at the millionth trial, you have gotten used to the needle's pokes) and a very large assault on his ears.[break][break] Ironically enough, Julius was one of the people ssh-ing Sybil. [break][break] He supposed, in some cases, you could not help but move with the crowd.[break][break] He began thinking of a very good response- yes, it was on the edges of his tongue. Something about not really being pressed for time and how the knight really needed to learn some chill and not get too upset because he hadn't hindered their investigation, per se just--[break][break]
And then something thudded on his lap. It was leather backed. It felt nice. Julius looked down at it and tilted his head, still half-drunk on the adventures the book he had been reading had taken him on. He seemed dazed, but the furthest thing from livid. "Oh hey, isn't this the thing we were looking for?" He seemed to have forgotten all about Sybil's torture. [break][break] "All's well that ends well. Now, I don't know about you, but I could go for lunch right about now." He grabbed the book and began walking to the counter. [break][break] 50% Oblivious. 50% Unempathetic. Or perhaps, just 100% asshole. [break][break]
