this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.

[break][break] Day one of the Jamboree: Pranked from head to toe. Apparently, toting around her Knights Crest wasn't going to save her from public ridicule (somehow, the days she wore it she felt like more of a target), so the only choice Asha had was to thoroughly camoflague herself into her surroundings and become your most typical Sundial resident, maybe even pretend she was Jester! Day Two would have to be better than day one. [break][break] The only problem? She'd never set foot in the Sun Cafe. And right now, attempting to set foot in it, she realized that she was a tiny little girl and it came in handy. Ashanti weaved through the crowds, using her probing hands as the needle and the rest of her body as the thread. She snuck all the way to the front of the line at the Sun Cafe, but despite being at the front, her voice was drowned out by the noise of all the other patrons. [break][break] Things were exploding, sparkling in the distance as people forced their way through magical meals. Everything smelled delicious, and everyone was laughing and talking to each other. In other words, something Asha'd never seen in her life. It was truly a place without any kind of prejudice or pretense and certainly had no room for inhibition. [break][break] Besides-- delicious food at 50% off, and an atmosphere this lively? Ashanti wouldn't miss this for the world. Which perfectly explained how less than a few minutes later she was carrying a tray of all her goodies (it was open service, save for the drinks) to anywhere where there was space. [break][break] And she stepped on a couple dozen toes, bowed frantically in apology and shouted a few excuse me's before finally arriving at her destination. A seat in the furthest corner or the cafe, in front of some random stranger.
a quiet, rarer variety of a jester; typically with dark hair, darker eyes, and lips that appear confused about whether they ought to smile or grimace ( and try a mixture of both, only to grant him an expression of perpetual, vague discomfort ); typically with a first name that has four letters, starting with 'e' and ending with 'h' though the last letter is often negligible and his name sounds the same in its absence. elih retreats to the back of the sun cafe after a prank or two, heart matching the rapid drumbeat of jamboree entertainers outside. to his dismay, and begrudging acceptance, the cafe offers no refuge from the chaos. in fact, it seems even worse on the inside, like firecrackers contained in a tiny box.
he is thankful to have enough knowledge of the cafe to carve a path for himself, squeezing his way to the back of the cafe with his food ( a selection of local sweet treats ) safely nestled in his arms. elih sinks into his seat with all the relief that a man in quicksand finding solid ground would feel, and abandons propriety a moment to slide down the wooden chair. a moment or two later and his spine begins to protest, so he finally straightens up and begins to enjoy the first sugary treat of the day, a colourfully decorated cupcake with a dollop of pastel pink icing at the top.
perhaps it is the fact that he has forgotten to eat prior to this, finding himself discouraged by the sheer amount of people gathered around the food stalls; he takes a bite too large of the cupcake, and had he not suddenly registered the presence of a stranger in front of him, the day may have passed by without any social mishap. as it stands, a wayward strand of pale hair catches the light, and his attention with it, and prompts him to narrowly avoid choking on a mouthful of cupcake. he opts for a well-contained cough instead, eyes still wide and almost watering with the effort. 'uh, hello,' he manages, with a degree of inflection that suggests a not-quite-question. and, at a loss for words and desperately wishing she would not comment on the gracelessness of his initial reaction, says, 'please, feel free to take a seat. it's quite, um, busy, isn't it?'

[attr="class","posttext"] Stranger wasn't a term she liked to use, though, because it sort of implied an invisible barrier. The kind that made other people seemed grayed out and lack lustre in contrast to the few you knew well. Asha wasn't that kind of person, preferring to take all individuals in their full resolution and hi-definition.[break][break]
The man seems to struggle with forming words, but Asha doesn't quite take a bite of her food yet, preferring to let him speak first. [break][break]
"Hi!" She said, way too eager just to punch out that monosyllabic word. As always, upon meeting one of those so-called strangers, she tried at first to lull them into her own fast paced conversation, judge how well they could keep up and then adjust the tone accordingly to match them. This wasn't really a conscious act though, it was something ingrained into her being like how a leaf knows to change colors come the autumn.[break][break]
"Isn't it just? The Jamboree is amazing. The Jester's did a really good job this year! But then again, it's my first time seeing it, so maybe my opinion doesn't count for much." She laughed at herself good-naturedly, offering him one of the many little pastries on her tray with a mute gesture before firing off another question.[break][break]
"What about you? Are you a regular here?"[break][break]
She was excited to get to meeting these Jesters-- apparently, they were all over the place. A lot of her first friends had been Jesters before she had joined the Knights. She wondered where they were now. That was okay. What was Sundial City to a former resident of the Metropolis, after all.
she only says a word -- a single word, a simple greeting -- and he's struck with the impression that a conversation with her is akin to a whirlwind. or perhaps that is an exaggeration: he is reminded of strong autumn breezes, the ones that pull red-gold leaves into dizzying eddies in the backyard. when his greeting ( customary, far from creative, with some attempts at warmth ) is met with enthusiasm and a hearty laugh, he is all the more convinced.
a question is making its way from his mind to mouth -- it is stopped midway by a shift in focus back to himself. "i, uh, guess you could say that," he pauses to take the offered pastry with a silent smile and nod of gratitude. "headquarters and all, you know." his gaze sweeps across the room, the hustle and bustle not entirely unfamiliar nor unlike the popular cafe, but there's an unmistakeable difference between an afternoon buzz and the restless crowd of festivities.
elih's eyes return to her. he is almost hesitant in his question, as he typically is in many forms of conversation, but curiosity is rather persistent in this situation. or perhaps it is hamster's voice at the back of his head, phrasing the question for him. the question is asked, softly, head tilted ever so slightly. "you said it was your first time seeing this -- are you new to sundial?"

The boy seems neat and kind, and automatically Asha feels a burst of warmth from him. It could also be her rose tinted glasses acting up, but she swore she could feel the warmth beneath the awkward expressions and the inability to speak too quickly-- on second thought, it's definitely those glasses acting up. Polaris informs her she ought to get her eyes looked at by an alchemist, and she tsks mentally at him. [break][break] "Oh wow, so you're a jester!" That's probably a new reaction, considering Jester's Den is the most populous coven in town. She's done enough kind hi-hello socializing to have met a lot of them already, but the meetings weren't quite as deliberate as this. She follows his gestures with her eyes and smiles. "Isn't it great when people are about?" [break][break] Ah, but she's not tactless. [break][break] "Even if you're not really talking with them, it can be fun to just watch them go about their lives, no?" She hopes that at least, the boy will be able to relate to one of those. Her eyes drift back to Elih, and she crosses a leg over the other, the characteristic sign that she's starting to get closed off. [break][break] "Oh, no. Sundial's still somewhat new to me. I've only been here for about a year...and let's say I've been busy for the most portion of it, ahahah." No need to tell anyone she'd been living as half-vagrant half-mercenary half-merchant of whatever she had left. [break][break] "But what about you? I guess you've been here for a while...what was your favorite Jamboree like?" Had there been something exciting? Some cool decorations or maybe a special meeting with--- huh. She was already thinking too personal too fast. She tried to back pedal herself from such invasive thoughts, and gave the boy a polite and encouraging smile instead.
[attr="class","econtent"]SHE IS MORE ENTHUSIASTIC than expected, but it is, surprisingly, something he can still withstand ( for reasons unknown; perhaps today is simply a good day ). the conversation doesn't overwhelm, not yet, and the relief is almost palpable. "it is, honestly," comes a quiet agreement. as always, elih is content as the observer. in some ways, the background hustle and bustle of the cafe is therapeutic and comforting -- it's alive, and that's something so very different from his family that it's rather enjoyable.[break][break]
( huh. he's never really thought of that before. )[break][break]
if he catches any change in demeanour, he doesn't give any hint of it. quiet contemplation suits his features easily. "well, it's a big city. plenty of places to explore," he offers, before the question that follows causes him to lapse back into silence temporarily. it's a surprise to him. frankly, conversations stop before such questions turn to him ( either by his own lack of participation, or the other losing interest ).[break][break]
there's a brief attempt at mirroring her smile; it settles awkwardly, and he trades it for a vaguely sheepish, apologetic expression. "well, um, it'd probably have to be my first jamboree? not too long ago, really." cue an unwilling flashback to the chaos of the crowd, then unfamiliar to brand-new societal initiate, fresh out of the strict regiment of the household. "it was, well--" he tilts his head pointedly towards the multitude of people milling about-- "crowded. one of the other jesters showed me around, which really helped, i guess." there's an odd inflection to the end of his sentences, evident hesitance, as though asking a question.
