this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.
This early in the morning, the park was silent and empty save for a few early-risers who were jogging through or lounging about in peace before the crowd started pouring in.
At any other day, Tony would've been still fast asleep in his warm and comfy bed. Unfortunately for him, a friend from the coven had barged into his room, woke him up with a bucket of ice cold water, and begged to trade missions with him.
Tony was an easy guy to convince, and after hearing that his friend was allergic to cats and couldn't do anything for the mission, he agreed.
The second unfortunate thing was the fact that the requester demanded that the cat be found as soon as possible. Still, ever the easygoing guy, he got up and headed out with Loki in tow.
Presently they were standing in front of a large tree. On one of its branches sat a kitten who was crying aloud. Tony had tried to coerce it down, promising to catch the small creature, but it refused to do anything else.
"Come on Loki, you should be able to get up there quickly enough. Talk to it and tell it to come down."
"One, I'm a polecat not a feline. Two, it's a kitten; it'll hardly be old enough to think. Three, I refuse to climb up that tree and risk being clawed at in anger."
"So you're going to let it claw me?"
"Better you than me."
Grumbling, Tony rolled his right arm, warming himself up as he conjured a water ball in his hand.
"Forget it. Let's just see if I can hit it off the branch." He glanced up, squinting one eye as he aimed for the target.

Amagika Park was one of her favorite places, because of all the wonderful variety it offered. Polaris had urged her to go early today, and being naive, she had. Of course, when she arrived there and there were no people, she felt cheated. What was a park without the crowd of strangers? When she tried to nag Polaris, he ignored her and she was left grumbling on her own. She didn't even have the respect of her familiar, how disturbingly sad. [break][break] She was wearing casual clothes for the first time in a while after the jamboree, dressed in a loose soft pink shirt and silver capris. Her hair was done up in a ponytail (she liked keeping it loose, but it got stuck in many places these days). It was too early for her mind to fully be functioning, but after a lazy jog she was feeling better. [break][break] Regardless of her half-hazed mind, her eyes went wide when they began to fully comprehend the scene unfolding in front of her. First, it was that boy. [break][break] "Thief!" she remembered someone shouting that as a crowd bolted after him, and she remembered standing, a little shocked, as she watched him get chased down by an angry mob. She had never found what that had been about, but hopefully, the misunderstanding had been cleared. Considering he'd been given the Master Trickster Award, she hoped it had. [break][break] Secondly, there was a cat. Asha liked cats. She was told she was more of a dog herself (she assumed it was meant in good taste) but she didn't really have a preference. And the cat clearly was in need of help. [break][break] Thirdly, was there a ball of water in his hands? [break][break] Asha shouted. [break][break] "Stooooooo---ooop!"
She began a run towards the boy, not stopping until she was directly in front of him with her face flushed and out of breath and her hands above her head like some professional defensive basketball player. Only she was a lot of distraught. [break][break] "Wh-what in Salem are you doing?" she asked, her voice surprisingly authoratative.

His eye was right on the target as he calculated the trajectory of his spell, tongue sticking out in concentration. He was more than certain that he was going to hit the kitten spot on, and would be ready to catch the tiny thing as it fell.
Just as he fired the water ball at it, he heard someone shouting loudly. The sound threw him off in surprise, causing the water ball to fly right below the branch. It splashed water everywhere but failed to hit the kitten, who remained in its spot.
"Empty Night! Can't you see I was busy?" He turned around, glaring at the approaching stranger until he recognized who it was. Before he answered her, he narrowed his eyes at Loki while having a mental conversation with him.
"Why didn't you warn me of her coming?"
"I didn't think she'd scream. And I certainly didn't think you'd pay attention, focused as you were on the...prize, so to speak."
Biting back a sigh, Tony turned to face the white haired woman and scratched the back of his head. His irritation at her was gone - he could never bring himself to be rude or angry to any woman - but he still didn't like where this conversation was going. "Well, I was worried that it was thirsty, so I wanted to give it something to drink?" He grinned as he shrugged his shoulders in response.
"The spell's really weak, trust me. It wouldn't have hurt the poor thing even if I did hit it." Actually, he didn't know if that was true.

Asha looked up in despair but seemed to calm down when the waterfall missed the cat a flew under the branch. She sighed in relief despite the fact that the splash radius included her and that a portion of her legs and the ends of her capris were wet. She turned back to glare at Tony.[break][break] "Yeah?" she asked, obviously not buying it. "Well then, cats like water in a bowl or a puddle, not flying at their face, thank you." She folded her arms across her chest angrily, and seemed offended by what Tony said next. [break][break]
"It doesn't matter if it's weak," she lamented. "How would you like it if someone threw a ball of water at your face and knocked you off a tree branch?" she declared, wondered how amoral you had to be to actually defend the act of harassing another living being. The guy seemed totally all over the place, now that she thought about it.[break][break]
She sighed; arms at her sides. "Did you get up this early in the morning to harass a poor kitten?" she asked. As usual, her thoughts were written all over her face and currently, she was looking at him with a judgemental look of exasperation, thinking how lame do you have to be.

ashanti verna Don't worry. He does think she's cute whether she's mad or not XD
As she crossed her arms and glared, he leaned back away from her. She started scolding him as she went on and on, and he had to fight off the instinct to turn tail and run. It was the instantaneous reaction to any kind of authoritative figure telling him off for something he did or didn't do. Sticking around just to listen to someone's lecture was no fun at all. And at any other time he would've been out of there in a flash.
"Well, if someone were to throw a ball of water at my face - and assuming I didn't just dodge it like the sharp guy I am - I'd throw one back at them or do something equally bad." He raised an eyebrow at her. "If someone is pissing you off or taking advantage of you, you don't just sit back and cry and discuss their feelings with them." Someone with that kind of thinking would never have survived living long as a street kid. They were big targets for ass-whooping and stealing. In fact, Tony always went after the easy targets and the pushovers when he needed money.
"I wasn't doing this just because I wanted to, you know," he said defensively, crossing his own arms over his chest. "Why would I want to get out of bed this early in the morning for needless animal torture? My time is much more important than that."
With a sigh, he glanced up at the three and pointed at the kitten. "That kitten ran away from home and I'm just bringing it back for someone." He held out his arms to either side. "See? Not as awful as you think huh? You should be ashamed of yourself for jumping to conclusions."

She blinked at his response and then snorted. Did he think she was stupid? The assumption (no, the thinly veiled accusation that she was some kind of pushover) made her angry. Despite being able to dish out lectures well, Asha did not take kindly to being patronized by others. Which was hypocritical, but her hypocrisy was beyond the point here. (Right?)[break][break] "But it's a cat! An animal, and it's absolutely terrified!" She gestured to the kitten, who seemed to be dizzying at the thought of climbing down the tree. It scooted up closer to the safe end of the branch as though its long lost fear of heights had finally caught up with it. "Do you think it has the ability to defend itself right now?"[break][break]
Now that Tony had crossed his arms over his chest, they practically mirrored eachother in terms of stance and defensive tone. Oh, so the animal torture has a purpose, she thought, but let him explain without too much hitch. When he was done, she gave him a completely thrown off look.[break][break]
"Ashamed of myself for jumping to conclusions?" she asked, the growing ire evident in her voice. "You're going to use an orb of water to attack a kitten so you can bring it home?" If she's ever seen irony before this has to be it, in high-definition. She wants to laugh and cry at the same time.[break][break]
"Could you really not think of anything else? Like climbing the tree to get it back? Or making a slide for it? Or luring it with treats? Or anything that's not plain mean?" she was highly concerned for this man's capacity to think straight. But she wasn't letting her guard down (even when the situation was getting so comical).
The other's contempt was starting to irritate him as much as she seemed to be of him. Aside from relieving unwanted memories by being compared to a weak and helpless kitten, she kept on lecturing him unnecessarily.
Tony glared at her as he put his hands over his hips. "Listen here girly, what I do with that kitten isn't any of your business." He ignored the spike of guilt that suddenly lurked in his conscience when he thought that he could've killed the cat unintentionally. "First of all, you're not the one doing the mission. Second, I could've thrown that water ball and gotten the kitten faster than any of the other suggestions," he added air quotes on the last word. "That you've been telling me. And you don't even know if it'll really be hurt or not so there!"
With a huff of indignation, he turned his back to her as he looked up at the tree. Now that his plan to throw a water ball was out, he had to think of something else - something not mean - to get the kitten.
A flash of brilliance, evidenced by the sudden straightening of his body, came to him then. He took off his jacket, holding it in one hand while pointing at the branch where the kitten was on. With a twitch of his finger, he began pulling it down towards him. The branch bent with a creak, lowering but not yet breaking in half, causing the kitten to slide down, paws scrambling for purchase but failing.
As soon as the kitten fell off with a frightened cry, he released the spell and held his jacket open with both hands to catch it. His triumph was short-lived as he heard the crack, and looked up to see said branch broken off from the trunk. Without thinking he bent his body over the kitten and yelled when the wood crashed on top of his head.
"Hells Bells!" He wobbled in place, blinking away the stars that spun around his head, then straightened up as he held the jacket aloft.
"HA! There it is. I did it as per your request my lady." When he turned his gaze to the other woman again, he bowed before her with a grand flourish.

"Girlie?" she shouted, but it was more of a whine than a shout because she felt far too patronized. Despite, of course, the fact that she was being patronizing herself. "Oh, so your time is the precious thing here. I'll do the stupid mission for you!" she volunteered, plain anger written on her face. She was offended, and this conversation was clearly going nowhere when suddenly he turned his back to her. [break][break] "Hey--" [break][break] His back straightened, and he seemed to get this sinister gleam in his eye (or maybe she was over-thinking things again) and then he reached out-- and the branched dropped low. The kitten yelped and jumped off the branch and Asha gasped loudly as Tony's swooped it into his jacket. [break][break] She saw the branch break before Tony. "Watch o--ouch!" Her cry of pain mirrored Tony's own cursing and she cringed as though the branch had hit her instead. [break][break] "Oh, I..." Did she forgive him for his intent to throw a ball of water at a helpless kitten? No. In fact, his bow only irked her more. But she'd retreat with an angry pout for now. "Good job," she admitted reluctantly, before looking away and sheepishly muttering a "Congratulations, by the way." [break][break] Because, in his rush to get away from the people chasing after him the first time and in her rush to run away from the crowd and hide behind Elih at the Starshow, she hadn't really gotten the chance to congratulate him for a prank well played.

ashanti verna To be fair, how would he know she was referring to the event? XD
"Why thank you." Smiling smugly, he finished his bow and opened up the jacket, peering into the tiny creature trembling inside. His jacket was - surprisingly - in tact, instead of being torn and ripped by claws as he first feared. While Tony had been aware of the risks of using his clothes as a sort of life net, he'd planned on demanding compensation for it after the mission. At least he wouldn't have to do that anymore.
"Hey there buddy. What on earth were you thinking, climbing up such a big tree, if you were going to be too afraid to jump down?" He reached in and picked it up, slinging his jacket over his shoulder as he carried the kitten in his arms and scratched the top of its head lightly. "Silly cat. Your owners are very worried about you."
Now more than ever he felt guilty for even thinking of throwing a water ball at this helpless creature. It didn't even look like it would've put up much of a fight. All of his fears from earlier went unfounded. Loki looked just as embarrassed as he did for jumping into conclusions.
Then the white haired woman's voice brought his attention back and he looked up, blinking dumbly at her congratulations. "Uh...thanks? It's not really a big deal. I've done missions like these all the time..." Slightly confused, but also grateful for her comment, he smiled.

[attr="class","posttext"] She grinned triumphantly when Tony bowed, and peered into the contents of his jacket to catch a glimpse of the cat. "Oh gosh, it's so cute," she said, hands clasping and fingers wrapping around eachother as the rest of her thoughts faded into the singularity that was the cat. [break][break] "I'm sure they are," Asha said, eyes blinking away from the cat (rather forcefully) as she turned to look at Toy again. Rose tinted glasses were one thing, but having them permanently affixed to your cornea was another. She suddenly forgot about whatever vile intentions the blond may have had, and the prank that he'd played on her-- [break][break] Oh. [break][break] Well, maybe not. She flushed and pouted. "That's not what I meant," she grounded out. "Congrats on winning the award! Your name was Tony, right?" she asked, quickly pushing the blush off her face to replace it with a neutral to happy expression, and a kind of odd and misplaced determination. [break][break] "Oh, you probably have to go to the owner of the cat, right? How far is it?" She feels that, having shouted at Tony and assumed he was being malicious, she owed him something or the other. Though, friendship was a thing she gave away freely regardless.

When the woman corrected him, he blinked and furrowed his brows. There was only one award that he knew of, so it had to be the Master Trickster award. He grinned as he scratched the side of his cheek sheepishly. "Oh you meant that! Well, thank you. I couldn't have gotten that award if I didn't get such good reactions out of it. Like your cute one," he teased.
The little kitten began to play with his hand as he conversed with the white haired woman. He wiggled his hands around and allowed it to swat with its paw as he held it in his arms, careful not to drop the kitten by accident.
"Anthony Skies at your service. Though most know me as Tony."
It was probably time for him to return the kitten home. While he wasn't given any sort of time limit, if he handed it over now then he could have time to pick another mission to do. This job was easy enough that he had enough energy to spare. Nodding at the woman, he replied.
"Not that far. They live in the residential area, and are probably there waiting right now." He continued to carry it in his arms, afraid that it would suddenly slip from his grasp and run away. Glancing back at the woman, he tilted his head.
"Do you want to come with me? Maybe you want to make sure I don't actually attack the kitten or just toss it somewhere random," he said wryly.

[attr="class","posttext"] Asha gritted her teeth. Really, he couldn't even accept a compliment without irking her. She put on a smile and crossed her hands, pretending to be nonchalant. "Oh yeah, like you weren't the one crawling on the floor and asking me to save you from Snow," she said, smirking while looking right at him. Her eyes traveled to the kitten playing in his arms. [break][break] "I'm Asha," she introduced. Despite people usually liking to match introductions, Ashanti had grown used to omitting her last name or even her full name when introducing herself, and usually people were too socially restricted to force her into committing to them by asking for her full name. It usually worked out. [break][break] Her eyes flickered between Anthony and the kitten quickly, and she found that the little animal seemed to enjoy swatting at Tony's hands. A smile crept upon her face without her really meaning for it to. His next question made her blink back up at him, and she was about to say she'd love to but then she had to blink back he annoyance at his last comment. [break][break] "Nope, nevermind," she snapped. She had felt like she owed him something, but clearly not anymore. She frowned deeply for a few seconds but chose her next words carefully. "Besides, I have a feeling the kitten will be safe." It was all she could do to not spin away and storm off then and there, but she supposed she'd wait for a proper goodbye.
At her taunt, he made a face. "What? No! I wasn't asking you to save me at all! I - wait, Snow?" A few seconds passed before he realized what she was referring to. "You call that huge thing Snow?" The poor thing. A big, monstrous creature like that shouldn't have such a cute name. It was embarrassing. Took out the fear and horror from its presence. Tony snorted then hurriedly cleared his throat to hide the laughter.
Getting past that and controlling his face once more, he inclined his head as she introduced herself. "Pleased to finally, officially make your acquaintance Asha." He would've asked long before, but circumstances previously had cut their interaction short. This time, maybe he'd have better chances of hanging out with the other and getting to know her more.
Or maybe not.
That off-handed comment was a bad move on his part really. But the nagging had gotten to him, and his natural instinct was to fight back and defy such people. After rejecting his invitation - but telling him she trusted him with the kitten - he smiled sheepishly as he scratched his cheek.
"Well...maybe we'll bump into each other again next time," he offered. "No tricks." He grinned as he placed a hand on his chest and lifted his other one up on a promise.
It was unlikely for Asha to agree, but he decided there was nothing wrong with throwing it out there anyway, on the off-chance that she'd say yes.

[attr="class","posty"]
[attr="class","posttext"] "Uh huh!" she said, chin up and face disbelieving. Really, one of these days this so-called Master Trickster would get what was coming to him and-- "What's wrong with the name Snow!" she said, but internally she was grateful she hadn't used the name Snowflake which was technically his full name-- she found herself getting annoyed and embarassed all over again. "I gave him the name when I was small okay?" Of course, most changed their nicknames later in life. But Asha was sentimental. [break][break]
She smiled when she saw he was holding back a laugh, though, and seemed momentarily appeased to nod at their 'official' meeting. She had found the boy funny and theatrical at first, and would have honestly liked to know him better if not for circumstances. She could have sought him out again at the end of the Jamboree, but she had been too busy hiding herself in fear of being recognized as 'the victim.' All in all, she hadn't made a good opinion of Tony yet, but she did want to know more about him. [break][break] He sheepishly scratched the back of his neck and Asha felt disarmed. She huffed out a breath of air. "I can't trust that promise, but goodluck with the rest of that mission." She'd leave him on neutral terms for now, seeing how she still felt guilty sort calling him out in a park full of bystanders and shouting at him before even being a good sport and congratulating him. She buried that under an air of cool, though, and waved him off as their ways parted. [break][break] Asha wondered if she was being too judgemental because of their first meeting. She sighed and wondered vaguely if they'd ever get along. Somehow, though, she didn't doubt that they would meet again.
