this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.

It is night when he descents into the outskirts of Sundial, moon hanging high above, stars spilled across the void that he calls the sky. It's a crisp summer night; warm enough to warrant only a light jacket as protection. Windless but not idle, it's a night perfect for a stroll across Sundial.
He slides his hands into his pockets, casually making his way towards the outskirts of town. In such a quiet stretch of concrete and street lights, Elijah can let out his familiar freely. Vesuvia's head peeks out from hairs brushed up against his neck, and they silently find comfort in each other's presence.
It doesn't take long for Elijah to see something unusual; interesting. The white tufts of fur so familiar he couldn't ignore it; the telltale signs of a polar bear right above him. Elijah looks at it curiously, taking closer steps until he's right up to them. He walks closer until he sees Ashe of all people, and blinks.

She's been here for a good hour now, idly reminiscing in the past.
[break][break] She remembers when she was afraid of the dark. Funny how a week or so of constant traveling through the woods in the rain and thunder changed her perception on the dark entirely, to the point where she ended up liking the nighttime more so than the day. At least, the voice inside her head had taught her to treasure the stars. [break][break]
Polaris, despite knowing and caring little for other things in the realm of human existence, seems to have a deep fondness for the stars. And Ash remembers when counting the stars and learning their names had kept her awake (because god knew when her driver would decide to whip that poor little horse again). So she traces the names in her mind....Betelgeuse, Sirius, Polaris...
[break][break] Her eyelids are heavy, and Polaris's coat is soft and fuzzy.
[break][break] But then there's a voice and someone calls her name. She jumps around, Polaris whipping out a COOLANT across the roof of the tower to take the sleepiness away, even if it's for a brief moment. She's sprawled on the stone floor of an old, abandoned watch tower, and her eyes flash with fear before she gives Elijah a look.
[break][break] "Elijah?" she asks, a bit redundant. "W-well, I could ask you the same thing," she says sheepishly, fixing up her skirt and turning back, a bit defiantly, towards the radiant full moon. "I visit this place a lot...not in a creepy way, though.. I mean. Ahhh. Why are you here?"
[break][break] But then again, it suited him more. The quiet, diligent mercenary would belong in a dark yet moonlit environment like this. She's the one that looks out of place. Polaris grumbles out an "Ashanti..." and Ash sighs, letting out a whiff of chilled air thanks to the previous coolant. [break][break] "Thanks by the way. For the mission gone mostly well." She chuckles at this, one of her violet eyes trailing away from the moon and turning to look back towards Eli.

Ashe jumps, and her familiar instantly starts to cool the roof. Elijah struggles not to wilt under the sharp breeze of cold air, a contrast to the summer's air he'd been walking through before. Her expression is wild and fearful until she recognizes Elijah, suddenly looking sheepish.
He tilts his head slightly to the side and wonders if anyone's ever found Ashe here before. That's not unlike of her, he realizes; she's seems like the type to go frolicking in the middle of the knight, disregarding the dangers that Sundial's wilderness is known for. It's extremely reckless--although, he has to admit there's novelty in the sense of being on edge all the time.
After all, that's why he's here.
"I couldn't sleep." He says, casually sliding his hands into pockets. His eyes scan the area, and he sees that it's an old, abandoned fort, slightly cleaned and something that's obviously been occupied. "Nice place." He murmurs thoughtlessly, without a trace of sarcasm. It doesn't take much to connect two and two; Ashe must visit this place regularly. For what, however, he doesn't really know.
Vesuvia leaves from her perch on his shoulder, and sets on exploring the little crooks and crannies. The wind blows, and he watches as her polar bear gruffs out her name. Ashanti turns, thanking him for the mission with a little laugh.
It's somewhat unexpected--he didn't really expect a thanks. Elijah pauses before nodding, a side of his mouth quirking into a grin. He meets Ashanti's eyes and takes a couple steps forward, leaning into the wood railing on top of the tower. It's a nice view; they could practically see all of Sundial here if it were day. He hums thought before speaking again.

"So you wandered all the way out here?" she asked. [break][break] The tower was high and not quite crumbling, but it had been flatly abandoned because Sundial's border had increased. The tower clearly used to mark the edge of the city, but now it was tucked safely quite a while away from the wall. But it was still tall and away from the real city, making star gazing completely possible. [break][break] "You say that like I own it," she teased, but she sighed tiredly, too asleep to really continue on defying her attachment to this place. "But yeah. It's nice." [break][break] Elijah grins and smiles in response, glad he seems to be expressing himself better than the awkward wall she had to deal with on the mission. He walks over to her and passes her to lean on the railing. Maybe she would have shouted about the dangers of doing that if she'd been awake. Or not. Who was she kidding? She leaned like that all the time. [break][break] Her eyes drifted to the city, smiling lazily for a minute in silence. For once, the silence was bearable. [break][break] She blinked at his question. "Yeah. I ended up giving it to a mender. Couldn't even do it myself, hah. What was I expecting anyway?" [break][break] She leaned into Polaris's coat, feeling the cold surge through her and give her strength. "You? How've you been since then?" she doesn't know why, but in this darkness she feels like Elijah is familiar, and that she can skip the prerequisites and talk to him like an old friend. [break][break] Isn't it one, by her standards?

Elijah nods and cranes his head to look on the path he'd taken. The long winding road at led all the way here; he's a person that usually is very meticulous--someone who always has a plan. But sometimes, there is satisfaction in laying his path to the fates. And today, the fates have led him to Ashanti.
He shrugs, eyes scanning the place. "I don't think anyone else other than you would claim a place like this." He teases, the edge of his lip quirking into a small grin. He would never venture so far for such a drab place, but he supposes that it's somewhat charming in it's own way, especially if nobody else knows about it.
The railing creaks as he leans on it, but Elijah pays no mind. Chin on his hand, eyes lidded into a lethargic gaze, he's perfectly content in this moment of silence--at least, until a question pops in his head. Ashanti blinks. She'd ended up giving it to a mender, unfortunately. Elijah shrugs.
"Who knows, maybe you'll be able to do it someday." He says carelessly. The night's stripped away his professionalism, and he feels free to say whatever he feels. Elijah can't be so picky, especially when Ashanti is his only companion for the night.
"I've been doing well. Missions and training and such, nothing very interesting."
have i always loved you? have i always known? / have i always loved you alone?
[attr="class","posty"]
[attr="class","posttext"] She frowned at his insight. Some place like this? Why would she be one to claim something this lonely and desolate. "You really don't understand people at all, do you?" she asked, but even as the words escaped her lips she found her mind wandering, imagining what kind of place this would be like if she really did lay claim to it. It was a great place for a bonfire. It was a great place to talk and drag your friends for the weekend...Her violet eyes went to Elijah, but she said nothing. [break][break] She doesn't know what's more annoying-- the fatality of his tone or the quiet and bored way he offers the suggestion. But she can't summon up the energy to be annoyed, so she laughs instead. It's a dreary and wistful laugh, but a laugh nonetheless. "Yeah. Someday." It's strange to not be talking and full speed. [break][break] Ashanti pressed her nose into Polaris's fur and breathed out loudly, like a muffled snort or sorts at Elijah's next words. A payful air returned to her as she sat more upright and cocked her to the side. [break][break] "Ah, what else could I have predicted? Really, that statue was more interesting than you," she teased, but the oddest thing about her statement was that she absolutely didn't believe in what she was saying. In fact, she spoke in the opposite tone and mannerism of someone accusing Elijah of being boring- she spoke like Elijah was in fact the most interesting person in the world, and she was the one being sarcastic and she spoke like she didn't have a single doubt about this reserved conviction.
[break][break] And if he'd turn to stare at her, she stare back into his eyes. A cool breeze kickstarted across the plains, but Asha seemed unaffected by the chill. "So," she said, an upright determination now resounding from her voice. "Do you live around here, or something? You said you couldn't sleep." [break][break] Or did he wander all the way to the outskirts because of some kind of insomnia?

Elijah raises his eyebrow. Perhaps he'd said the wrong thing again; he's often a victim of such things--but he wasn't ill-meaning what that type of comment. "...Explain?" He says, because Ashanti seems like the type to explore and find a place like this to spend time in; she's too free-spirited to be held in by the confines of coffee shops and restaurants.
And when he makes another comment, he's suprised at how carefree she sounds. Her laugh, slowly and wispy, follows a voice that's too tired to say much more than a few word at a time. He rolls his eyes, because she still hasn't understood that it was supposed to be a serious mission. Such sentiments had led to the artifact breaking, for one.
"That was simply the nature of the mission, Ashanti." He scoffs, his tone flat. Despite being a sarcastic person himself, he doesn't realize her tone, and answers it as if she had asked seriously. He turns back to her with a lidded, somewhat bored gaze, and watches as she lays back on her familiar.
"Kind of," He says, pausing to sit down and lean against the railing behind him. "I live on the outer part of the city, but I've just been walking a lot because of nightmares recently. What about you?"

[attr="class","posttext"] She eyed Elijah for a while before pouting, unable to admit she'd been rash in her judgement of his character. "Nevermind. I'll tell you someday," she said, reminding herself rather awkwardly that patience was a vritue. She had an eerie feeling that eventually what she said would make sense-- a different place, a different time. [break][break] She blinks at his statement, and maybe a few days ago she would have laughed in his face for being such a nerd about things. Instead, all she can do in the middle of the night like this is smile wryly, a touch of it was sorrowed because she knew at once what he was getting at. Her mistake, of course. Or maybe he didn't even care. Maybe she was the one over exaggerating. She turned back to the scene in front of them, the little lights of Sundial looking as though the could be blown out by the wind. [break][break] "What's wrong with making a few mistakes," she asked. The sentence was spoken only a decibel louder than the others, with a touch of seriousness. It was blunt and flat, but it echoed; like a rock hitting at a metal gate. [break][break] She hugs her knees and Polaris makes a noise akin to a grunt, curling up despite being a gigantic, sheer-white bear with a mystical aura glowing off of him. Yet the two seemed perfectly normal despite how out of place the scene was. "Nightmares? So I'm not the only one..." she murmured, wondering vaguely what kind of nightmares Elijah saw. Anyone could see nightmares of demons and death, but sometimes she wondered what other people saw in the corners of their mind. [break][break] Then she realized what he had meant. "I- I mean. I live in the residential area, not here...I just...visit. Sometimes." Ah, there she went, unraveling her previous stance and looking like an idiot again.[break][break]

Elijah raises an eyebrow, but he doesn't question it. Ashanti will explain it to him one day, but he's certain that she won't divulge in such observations if he pushes. He understands people...mostly. At times, when he feels like he's missed part of a convesarsation, he wonders. People are easy to analyze. He can tell what their motivations are or why they did something--but socially? He'd rather go up against a monster.
He pauses. Perhaps he shoudln't have said that; he hadn't meant it maliciously. Far from it, actually; they completed the mission, and that's what matters. He has to admit that when he had completed it that day, his mind was buzzing with annoyance, thoughts of what could've been a routine mission. But it did make time go faster, to his chagrin--he appreciates life just a little more. And yet he doesn't know whether or not he'd redo the whole thing given the chance.
When Asha responds back, it's surprisingly somber. Eli has to take a moment to think about it. "Mistakes can cost missions," He starts, because it's true. Some are more impactful than others, and their past mission was thankfully, forgiving.
"But everyone makes them." He says, and shrugs. The giant polar bear behind her grunts, and Elijah wonders what it's like to be paired with such a large familiar. He licks his lips, remembering the nightmares he'd seen in his dreams. "I--"
He's cut off when the wood behind him suddenly splinters and creaks. Before he can react, it's snapped in half. His back meets the air, and he falls backward, off the cobblestone walls of the tower.
