☂ The Delacroix family has long been known throughout Salem as a family of powerful spellsingers. The first generation of the family used to sing for ceremonies of the church founded upon the Cross. It was believed that Meredith, lost in the depths of woods, slept beside the Cross for nights, each morning waking up safe and sound. Eventually she found her way home, dragging the Cross with her and spreading its words. The church grew, and a village centered around it flourishes as people seeks the Protection of the Cross. [break][break]
☂ Ever since the establishments of the watchtowers, the church ha slowly lost its member base. Today only the Delacroix family is aware of the long lost church of the Cross. Even then nobody in the present generation actually believes in the Cross, but they tend to it nonetheless as part of their rituals as well as respect to the Voice of the Cross, Meredith. The Delacroix family today still practices spellsinging, performs rituals to the Cross, as well as safekeeps the wealth accumulated through centuries of offerings and sacrifices believers spent for the church. Most of the Delacroix spellsingers nowadays are either in theaters or up in the ranks of covens. [break][break]
☂ Raven Delacroix was born underneath a starry night sky. She was raised and trained to sing passages to the Cross. She was gifted with natural angelic voice, and the affinity is easy for her to learn at such a young age. She was good at it, but it was not what she wanted. She admires the night sky the most, music only coming as second. Her family discouraged her from pursuing the art of Starcalling, and was forced to choose. Raven did not choose, instead she took Starcalling as her affinity and Spellsinging the second. At the age of nine, it was her first contradiction.[break][break]
☂ Unlike Spellsinging, Starcalling does not come to Raven naturally. She spent hours and hours learning how to gather the elusive mana of the heavenly bodies. Everyday people came up with new reasons to call her out on her choice. But she did not give up. Her passion for the art burned fierce. At the age of fifteen, she embarked in the journey to stardom equipped with her passion for the night sky.[break][break]
☂ It went considerably well. Financed by her family, gifted with an angelic voice with the flair of Starcalling and her element, burning red whenever she steps on stage, Raven rose to the top in a blink of an eye. She starred in countless dramas, performed in countless ceremonies, invited as guest in countless conferences. Soon Raven Delacroix is known not just for her name, but for her talent and her flair. At the age of nineteen Raven thought her popularity would silence questions regarding her diversion to family traditions.[break][break]
☂ From spending just an hour preparing for shows, now Raven would spend two to four hours in the backstage. She started showing up late for her concerts, not caring about time spent by her spectators waiting. Then she stopped staying for post-performance conferences, avoiding questions she hated so much: all the whys, all the hows, all the what ifs. She would always be the subject of ambush interviews. Over and over again she would give the exact same reason, the exact same answer to the exact same question. Somehow, people aren't satisfied. At the age of twenty Raven wanted to have a choice, but she is not offered one.[break][break]
☂ The decision to join a coven. Storm is blowing over Sundial, thus all of Raven's appointments were cancelled. She stayed in her spacious but empty room all day, basking in the much-appreciated, needed quiet. When everything was finally calm she knew what she wanted. A change. A refuge. A place where she would be able to juggle all three without prioritizing the other. At the age of twenty-one Raven received the Knight's Crest.[break][break]
☂ It was fate, Raven thought, that she had fallen within the richest, most influential Circle of Sundial. Here she is able to maintain her prestige, yet at the same time grow as a witch. Here she is able to find stability, to establish loyalty, to let go of her facade and be herself: fool-proof, filtered, uncaring. Afterall, it was the only way to survive in her world.
