this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.

An uncomfortable warmth seemed to radiate from Downtown Sundial, the heat from the summer sun already lingering within the thick masses that filled its streets despite the morning hours Basile arrived to the location. Basile was aware that Downtown Sundial was the denizen of businesses and bustling culture, but he wasn’t quite prepared to experience the sticky heat before the rest of the city could wake up or before the mission could begin.
He arrived to the quaint bakery earlier than anticipated though planned nevertheless, already entering the small shop and collecting the packaged desserts; he prayed that Avori would arrive in good time soon, there was no point in staying within the heat longer than necessary after all.
“I wonder when she’ll be showing up…” Basile mumbled under his breath, slowing pushing the shop door open as he stepped back out onto the crowded streets; pale colored eyes peering through the crowd in an attempt to spot the young witch though he couldn’t help, but divert his attention to the boxes held firmly within in his hands.
From his understanding, the small request the bakery sent out seemed simple enough; an easy task in essence. He originally assumed the deliveries would be tedious, instead when he picked up the packages he was greeted with the sight of four medium sized boxes that needed to be delivered to customers within the residential area. It was almost relieving that it wouldn’t take too long to complete the task or so he prayed that it wouldn’t.

Weaving through a crowd of those who couldn’t care less for the goingson of a small seventeen year old was never a strange occurrence for her, but she had yet to be as aggressive in maneuvering than she was in those moments— Avori was never late, made a point to be early to everything and anything she was involved in, though the time was moving further and further away from her. [break] You still have five minutes, Anemoi chirped from above her, having taken flight and keeping watch on her from above the masses. You’re going to hurt yourself doing this. [break] I refuse to be late to anything, how would that make me look? [break] “Sorry!” Avori squeaked moments after the thought as she collided with another witch, given a dirty look before being pushed past; she had half a mind to berate them, but Anemoi shushed her. [break] I told you that you’d hurt yourself — and don’t waste time on them if you’re so concerned with being late. [break] Shove off, Ane. [break] Breaking her attention back to where she needed to be, once the crowd cleared she broke out into a jog, the patter of her feet hitting pavement overwhelmed under the din of the the bustle hounding the streets of Downtown Sundial. She didn’t go to Downtown very often— she couldn’t really think of a reason, but it did hinder her— so she navigated the streets with distinctly unfamiliar steps. [break] Eventually she managed to get to the bakery in time, arriving just before being “late” and her eyes fell upon her partner, a kind looking man who she was familiar with, carrying four loaded boxes. Her gaze trailed to the boxes momentarily before flitting back to him, lips widening into a grin. [break] “Basile!” she greeted cheerily, Anemoi flying down and resting neatly upon her shoulder. “I would hug you but— oh, yeah, let me take some of those!” She reached out to lessen the load, taking two of the boxes for herself, almost obscuring her face though luckily they stopped at her chin. [break] “It’s great to see you!” Anemoi chirped as his witch handled the “cargo,” rustling his wings happily. [break] “Right, well,” Avori huffed once she’d gotten her situation in order, tilting her head back to the streets. “Let’s get going then— where’s our first stop?”

Basile turned his head away from the packages nestled in his arms, his chin now tilted towards the sky; eyes narrowing when he caught a glimpse of the bright sun. His partner had five minutes time to arrive to the shop though he was certain the young witch would not keep him waiting any longer, the two seemed to pride themselves with arriving early as opposed to arriving on time or to a greater extent– arriving late.
You’ve known her for quite some time Basile, she will show up on time. Avani’s calm words echoing within his mind, the small kinkajou carefully materializing to rest upon his shoulders; her soft fur brushing against the skin of his neck when she craned to look at the crowd alongside her witch.
Basile turned his head back to acknowledge his familiar, her presence soothing his worried mind for a moment; he knew that he could put his trust in Avori, there was no reason to doubt the young witch he grew found of. Almost as if the situation was timed, he felt Avani’s nose press against him in a quiet effort to turn his attention to the crowd and his gaze landing on the person in question, “There you are Avori, it’s good to see you.” He managed a chuckle, his worried nerves subsiding full heartedly when his partner arrived just in time.
“It’s the thought that counts, I appreciate it.” He assured the young knight, shifting his hold slightly when Avori reached to take two of the four packages; the weight lessening tremendously when he was left two for himself, “Ah, Anemoi, more the merrier. It’s good to see you too.” Basile nodded his head to the oriental bird.
Avani soon peered her head out further once it seemed the two were settled and greetings subsided, “Avori, Anemoi, it’s such a nice sight to see two familiar faces.” The kinkajou greeted, her voice calm though her tone was more than welcoming towards the two; there was no need to be hostile towards friendly faces.
“It seems that everyone is settled in,” Basile announced, shifting his shoulders slightly when Avani attempted to secure herself a bit more on her witch, “We’ll be heading north from here, one of the packages should be for a birthday.” He confirmed, momentarily adjusting the packages in his hold to show the list of addresses the worker gave him for their deliveries to Avori.
“Great to see you, too,” Avori returned, beaming. “Missed you, old man,” she teased good-naturedly, a cheeky glint playing in her eyes. Basile was like a brother to her — a very, very older brother — and she always found comfort in his company; she was glad he was to be her partner in the little excursion. “And Avani! Ah, haven’t seen you guys in way too long.” [break] Avori adjusted her grip a bit on the boxes, tightening her hold to ensure that the completely precious cargo wouldn’t be soiled in her hands by way of knocking down onto the pavement; they weren’t too heavy or particularly hindering, but she was on the job, and Avori was never a witch who enjoyed letting others down. [break] “Indeed,” Anemoi chirped in agreement, feathers rustling again though there was no noticeable breeze— something characteristic to him, rather. For a moment, the kingfisher left the curve of his witch’s shoulder to float around, darting quickly over to Avani before finally flapping his wings in a greeting not uncommon of him. “Yes! Wonderful!” [break] The kingfisher flipped backward then, his voice of birdsong toning out as he maneuvered back to his perch, pressing his body back into Avori’s shoulder. [break] “Oh, alright; got it,” Avori remarked with a swift, dutiful dip of her head as her eyes followed where Basile instructed. “Birthday, huh? Hope it’ll be fun— I always loved birthdays. What about you, Basile?” she commented idly once they’d begun their journey, casting him a glance from the corner of her eyes. [break] “So anyway, what have you been up to while I’ve been gone? I’m sure we have loads to catch up on…”
Well I never really thought that you'd come tonight When the crown hangs heavy on either side so Give me one last kiss while we're far too young to die.
Basile grimaced at the nickname though he was unable to prevent the lighthearted chuckle that slipped from him, “Missed you too, Kid.” He returned, a slight emphasis in his words though there was no malice behind them; it was simple interactions like this between them that made their relationship unique– or so he believed anyways. To him, Avori was like a younger sibling albeit fifteen years younger, yet the difference with their age never forced him to stop finding some solace in the teenager and from his knowledge, Avori seemed to find comfort from him as well.
“Then do consider visiting Basile and I more often, we look forward to your company.” Avani encouraged, amused with the enthusiasm behind the young witch’s words; a light that the familiar wished Basile could have experienced earlier within his life than when he had. Her attention soon diverts to the kingfisher, his excited presence enrapturing her focus before a quiet laughter left her, “I never tire when you’re around.” She manages, soon removing herself from her witch’s shoulders to take shelter in the open satchel nestled at his side; movements careful as she climbed down the length of his arm and into the bag.
He grunted under his breath at the added movement his familiar gave him, his hold on the package tightening when his arm was jostled underneath the weight of the kinkajou. His grip only loosened when Avani was settled, relief flooding over him when the packages no longer had an increased chance of falling from his hands. Basile idly casts Avori a small glance when conversation slowly built up between them, “It depends, the few I’ve been too were relatively fun though.” He admitted, briefly humming in thought before waving it away from his mind.
“I haven’t done too much since our last time together, Avani convinced me to venture out further than the Knight’s hall and my home recently; too wrapped up in my own studies I suppose.” He gently nudges the satchel, the small mammal picking her head out at the movement, “I’m sure you have something far more interesting.”
“Pfff,” Avori huffed in response, seeming indignant though her smile told otherwise. “At least I’m not qualified as a senior citizen,” she added with a laugh, shaking her head a bit with her words. Suffice it to say she was the type to tease, and relentlessly so; it was fun, and Basile wasn’t exactly a downer when it came to it. She was completely comfortable around him, which was nice; a change of pace, really, considering some people could get her on edge. [break] Like that prick in the crowd— [break] Avi, I swear to Merlin… [break] Avori shushed her familiar, before her smilewidened to a grin at Avani’s words. “Will do,” she said with a wink and a dip of her head before a giggle escaped her lips. “I just have to find more time to do that— my folks have been keeping me a bit busy lately, among other things…” [break] Avori watched Avani maneuver around her witch with an amused, though familiarly fond, look to her; Avani was so calming, just like Basile, and this was something both Avori and Anemoi greatly appreciated— especially considering how boisterous they themselves could be. [break] Avori hummed in acknowledgement to Basile’s words, a sweet smile still on her face. “That’s great— boring parties are a waste… I have to admit, though, I haven’t gone to a good one in a while. Too many weird expectations…” Lately, with all of her friends — and herself — growing ever older, birthdays had been less of a time for fun as they’d become a social function to flaunt maturity and a way to show exactly how rich people were. Avori didn’t care for it, and she’d often have two separate parties — one more of a high society “gala” of sorts will all of the various, influential and wealthy families with ties to her own in attendance followed by a party of her own design with her friends a few days later. [break] “Good job, Avani,” Anemoi sang with clear mirth in his voice, shifting his wings a bit. “Staying so cooped up all the time will drive you stir crazy, Basile.” [break] “Oh, totally,” Avori tacked on, breathing out a chuckle. “But at least you’re getting out there, even though what you do when you’re “cooped up” is interesting. As for me, well…” Avori suddenly flushed with color as the thought of what she’d been up to lately rushed to her mind, growing coy. “I, uh, I met this guy, his name is Dalton. He’s a Knight, too, and an alchemist… and we went out, it was really nice. I like him.” [break] She rushed through her words, seeming almost nervous in telling Basile about Dalton, even though he was so far the only person she’d told barring her parents, but they had to know.
Well I never really thought that you'd come tonight When the crown hangs heavy on either side so Give me one last kiss while we're far too young to die.
He could feel the dagger twist when Avori teased him about his own age, the words a small reminder with how many years he had endured though he knew the young witch held little malice behind them. Basile shook his head, his laughter dying down and simply replaced with a small gentle smile, “I'm not that old, however, I would be taking in some wonderful benefits if I were.” He admitted, eyes casting a small glance towards the young knight's way; a glint of amusement briefly shimmering within them.
Basile allowed an eventual sigh to leave his pale lips, his attention now focused on the crowded street before them; occasionally glancing towards the various streets signs while his familiar conversed with Avori. However, he was quick to turn his head towards the witch when he felt another gentle nudge from the kinkajou nestled within his bag, “It's a matter of perspective, I'm sure the parties that I would attend you would find boring.” Basile explained, a smug smile settling onto his lips.
He never experienced parties that were hosted by the upper class, he was certain that expectations differed tremendously among the higher class versus those in the lower caste. Basile was almost curious of what experience the higher of the two would bring, but it was something he wasn't particularly longing for. In all honesty, he was simply content with what he had.
“He needs to experience some fun in his life, while his research holds good intentions; keeping yourself locked up for so long isn't that good.” Avani sighed, her concern for Basile a top priority in her own book. While she understood the concept of comfort, she also understood the need to break it at times.
“Thank you, you three for willingly pointing that out to me.” Basile shot a small glare down to his familiar, similar looks being sent towards the other two in their small party. However, it was soon replaced with a look that best resembled confusion as Avori rushed through her words in her reply.
“You met someone? How long have you known this Dalton?” Basile settled his attention onto Avori, his words calm and at ease.
