this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.

a mission well done - so it’s time celebrate. well, she never really needs an excuse to go drinking, but hey, this time means she gets to drag another along with her, which is always a plus! briefly, she wonders if julius can hold his liquor, or if he's a complete lightweight - both have their own fun~ potential, but the middle ground is rather boring to be honest. whatever, she'll find out soon.
perhaps unusually, iolani's toned down her usual partying attire: red top ( the colour of blood! ), asymmetric black skirt with ruffles and a slit for days, and her favourite dagger pumps ( she likes her shoes sharp enough to stab, thanks ) - perhaps wouldn't be called more restrained by most people, but those people haven't seen half the outfits in her wardrobe. one day. one day. ( she's also got a very finely made dagger stashed away in a hidden pocket, but that's a given really. )
her heels click crisply on the pavement. it's a nice sound. "so, you go drinking often?" she asks her companion, eyeing him with a careless smirk that is probably a touch too smug to not be annoying ( or at least it should be - she hasn't practiced for this long in front of a mirror to show no results, after all ). by this time, the other witch should probably have spent enough time in her company to recognise that it's basically her default expression.
The mission had been won, and he'd decided to head out to celebrate. Cassidy had managed to already fall asleep, and he could probably tell her about the whole ordeal later. She didn't need to know about the mission...She didn't seem to be as enthusiastic, anyway. But that was a thought for sometime else. For now, he was ready to drink and have a good time with his new associate.
[break][break] He's dressed in trademark hipster suspenders- blood red against a soft white shirt, with denim jeans and a coat slung over his shoulders. He's vain, and the best part about that is that he dresses well, always. He can't really bother to judge Iolani's own style, but vaguely wonders how hard it would be to dance in heels. [break][break]
"Mmmm?" he asks, reflecting her smugness back at her with the tone of his voice alone. "Oh, only in the best of company." The response is easy and hardly any thought goes into its making. It's late into the afternoon as they walk along the pavement. As they pass a streetlight, as just enough time passes for the words to settle, Julius allows a playful smirk to crawl over his face. "Though there's always room for an exception."

YOU'VE WAITED IN VAIN BECAUSE THERE'S NOTHING FOR YOU
It was rather disappointing to learn that she would not be working with her twin sister, but rather working alongside a witch she had heard in passing though it was relieving to know that she had one familiar face; Kenneth Boyce, a previous mission partner with a rather cute face to match. She soon breathes out a sigh, back pressed against the cool exterior of the bar as she awaited the arrival of her covenmates; pale colored eyes briefly scanning across slowly darkening streets before her attention rests on two incoming figures.
She hums under her breath at the sight, the casual yet celebratory stride the pair seemed to hold an amusing sight, “Good night for drinks, huh?” Aurélia raises her voice, a hint of a smirk laced between innocent sounding words, “Mind telling me what the occasion is you two?” She presses once more, her head turning away from the pair for a moment as she glances around for the familiar faces of her coven mates.
She cocks a brow when she turns her head back at the two and it was only then that she took notice to the hipster attire one seemed to be wearing before she raises a hand to stifle a laugh, “Well don’t you look adorable.” She coos at him, her mocking words only meant to be harmless for now.
the nightclub is a hub of drunk witches, but outside of it the street is oddly quiet. the alleyway towards which julius kingston turned and where the two snakes lurked is dark and silent-- a thrum of music blares from the inside and bodies mix with more of their kind and the club culture comes to life. [break][break] the shift in the atmosphere is subtle- neither iolani kótsyfas nor Kenneth Boyce can sense it. but it occurs. the novices feel it though, a quiet disturbance trying to press on unnoticed. something subtle. something...alive? what is this feeling-- faster, quicker. but at that point, it's too late. the tension zaps like enchanted thunder, and the ground underneath iolani kótsyfas and julius kingston gives way. [break][break] at first, it is but an imbalance, but the imbalance turns into a fissure and the fissure multiplies. the fault lines meet and the rocks break through, forcing open a manhole that no party had noticed prior and likely causing the two leviathans to fall in. YOU'VE WAITED IN VAIN BECAUSE THERE'S NOTHING FOR YOU
Her attention begins to fade away from him, green colored eyes fixating themselves on an approaching individual; brows furrowing for just a moment before easing upon realizing it was Kenneth. She hums under her breath, her hand raising to give him a small wave while her smile has yet to fade away from her lips. Despite how coy she had been with him during their first mission together, she held some sort of fondness towards him though it was something that she wasn’t quite willing to let onto, “It seems that you’re missing the party.” She turns her head back towards the two, an idle response as she waits for another member that never seemed to arrive.
“I think you’ll really liven things up once you’re in the mix suspenders.” She allows a smirk to settle onto pale lips while her arms fold in front of her chest; her body entirely resting against the exterior of the club. She could hear the faint music from outside, how muffled it was through the walls though there was a disturbance in the atmosphere– something she couldn’t quite place.
It was when the earth began to crack, rumbling underneath the force that seemed to surge through it and her eyes seem to dart around for a culprit. However, the streets were equally as barren as they were before and the fissures seemed to multiply as the seconds ticked down. She forces herself away from the wall without much thought, her eyes widening when the ground seemed to give away from underneath the strangers.
Aurélia almost wonders if the shift within the air was the cause and her eyes dart towards the revealed manhole; something she hadn’t took notice before until the earth broke away in the alley, “Hey, you two, are you okay?” She approaches the edge, eyes peering down at the hole; bits of ground fluttering away from the fissure.
[attr="class","partycontent"] "Do I know you?" he asked, and the question to a point was genuine. Admittedly his partying habits had been forcibly toned down since arriving in Sundial, but he wasn't a stranger to having girls attacking him for no reason and finding out days later that it had been a once-upon-a-time endeavor in a land far far away. A quick scan of his memory and Julius found no exactly matching face, so instead, he quirked an eyebrow. Huh. That was an interesting way to approach someone.
[break][break] "Let's say celebratory. Are you the bouncer or do you just do this to anyone walking?" He seemed genuinely concerned for the stranger- perhaps she was drunk? Though, this much without even entering the bar-- perhaps he really did underestimate Sundial's nightlife. [break][break] He notices something shift and immediately his eyes turn deadly. He has just come back from a mission, but the mission mindset has not yet dissipated. He is still able to access his fight mentality- it burns quick and ready in his mind. Or it has been, in fact, ever present as of late... [break][break] The ground rips apart and Hermione appears with a flutter-- Julius's instinct forces his hands to whip to his sides and he attempts to jump backwards. His thoughts immediately go to iolani kótsyfas, and he offers her a hand should she take it. The great Eurasian Eagle Owl grabs his shoulders with her talons-- all ten feet of his wings attempt to steady him. The dust rises and the ground collapses, but instead of falling, Julius (and perhaps Iolani) tumble downwards and likely land on their feet. [break][break] He shoots Iolani a quick glance first to make sure she is okay. However, Julius's irritation peaks when the ginger from earlier opens her mouth. "Tch. Yeah fucking fantastic." My poor shirt. "You going to help us out or watch?" He glared upwards, emerald eyes piercing and accusatory. But at the same time, he was thinking. How tall was the place? Hermione took to the air, cawing and ready to either messily pull the two out or bring Julius his trusty broom.

Showing up late to things was pretty much Kenneth's jam for the most part. After all thats what all the cool guys did right? Well it doesn't matter much, he's here now after all and thats all that mattered. Though for the life of him Kenneth couldn't really remember why they were here to be honest, he saw an excuse to try to spend more time with the red haired woman and jumped right on it.
Matching Aurelia's little wave with one of his own the dark haired man finally arrived to round off the groups numbers. Taking a stand next to Aurelia he playful tossed an arm over her shoulder, letting out a chuckle before following it up with a quick "Boy are you a sight for sore eyes." With that said the man laughed yet again and pulled his arm away. At least he had a little bit of time before things actually got kind of serious.
With a quick nod of his head over at the other two witches there with them Kenneth would reach a hand up to scratch at the back of his head for a moment. "Oh yeah Aurelia, I got something actually kind of important to talk to you about sometime. I keep like..waking up in weird places and theres this equally weird scar on my chest now?"
That was the last thing Kenneth managed to say before the ground beneath them began to shake and crack, followed by the two leviathan witches falling into a manhole. While he might not of been able to notice the change in the air that preceded the earth opening up he did definitely see that. With a slight wince he looked over at the manhole, waiting to see if the other two witches were able to get out of the hole on their own.

when the ground opens up beneath her feet, her first thought is something along the lines of: 'well, that was unexpected.' though not in so many words - or any words at all, really. her second thought is vague disappointment that such a misshap had happened in front of the cute red haired girl that had been eyeing julius. her third thought is concern for her shoes - her feet and ankles too, yeah, but most her shoes ( they were expensive damnit ). its only around her fourth or fifth thought that she finally reacts something like a normal person would, with a dismayed "well, fuck."
her bastard of a familiar doesn't even materialise to offer help like julius' owl. she shoots nem the mental equivalent of the middle finger. ne just laughs at he misfortune.
"thanks," she says, grabbing hold of her fellow lev's hand. fucking huginn. if only ne would materialise nemself, they would be out of this sinkhole already.
perhaps they would've been able to escape the confines of the manhole. at worst, they would need to climb the walls themselves- which shouldn't have proved too hard barring their attachment to their clothing and continued (somewhat) clean bodies. [break][break] however, at that instant, something unmistakably golden flashes from the corner of their eyes. a spot in the vision like a thunder-struck firefly with a light the size of a human hand appears and disappears just as quickly, illuminating the sewers for a brief second before fading away. the burst of light would easily been seen by all parties peering into the hole. but for iolani kótsyfas , it holds a different significance as, in the few seconds of light, she catches sight of the unmistakable symbol of coven leviathan etched into one of the walls as though by the dying tooth of a cornered rat. [break][break] suddenly, the noise of the club seems all too far away as the one question sounds above all else- what was that? [break][break]

a flash of light like a star gone supernova, brilliant and dazzling as it blazes in her eyes for a lightning-flash of time before fading like it had never been - which, okay, what. but even weirder than that, in the few seconds of illumination, the harsh edges of a carving are thrown into sharp focus down on the sewer walls.
she recognises that carving. she recognises that fucking carving, oh my god, joining leviathan was probably the worst fucking idea she's ever had why is this her life. is it too late to skip town and vanish? fucking hells, if she survives this ( which she will, because dying at because of some random shitty sinkhole is just pathetic ) she might have to seriously reevaluate some of her life decisions.
with a sigh, iolani kicks off her heels ( they were such a nice pair damnit ) and studies the walls with a grimace. "any of you got a broom or rope or something?" she calls up to the two spectators above, not really expecting an answer. after all, who carries around any of those items around with them when heading out to the club?
turning to her fellow lev, she eyes him consideringly, and muses, "d'you think we could justify just blinking out of here or something?" tl;dr internal freak out about the lev sign, asks if kenneth or aurelia have a way to help them out, otherwise does nothing rip
As iolani kótsyfas ponders how to best escape her current predicament, the sound of rushed footfalls through the sewers somewhere not far down the pipe echoes over to the group's location. If any of them were looking in the direction from where the bright light had just vanished, they would have caught a glimpse of movement at the far intersection of tunnels, distinctly humanoid in size and shape, but cloaked in too much darkness to reveal anything further. It stops momentarily, like a deer in headlights, before rushing off past the Leviathan symbol. [break][break] Meanwhile, bystanders on the surface, albeit few at this time of night, are beginning to comprehend what just happened and overcome their initial surprise. "Are you kids alright?" a middle-aged man calls over to them as a group of teens and pair of women all look over in varied combinations of curiosity and concern. [break][break]

the sound of footsteps is quiet. soft, like a spill of rice grains across a polished wood floor. but iolani isn't a ( former ) assassin for nothing; the hair at the back of her neck prickles as her ears catch the whisper, the echo. a flicker of a gaze to the side, unease trickling down the back of her spine and hitting every single fucking one of her bright neon fucking-pay-attention-you-idiot-there's-something-goddamn-wrong-with-this-situation-and-if-you-don't-figure-the-fuck-it-out-you're-fucking-dead buttons.
of course, she doesn't let it show externally. gotta keep the cool and calm, smirk never wavering, stance never shifting from loosely casual and relaxed. doesn't mean she isn't ready to flee the fucking city or stab something in the face at a moment's notice, but hey if the others don't figure out something's wrong then they deserve whatever happens. might also be good distractions, y'know?
no one's ever said that iolani was nice. except alessia-
because she's not a reckless suicidal fucking idiot, she of course doesn't want to investigate whatever the fuck it was herself. but because she's also more curious than the proverbial cat, so fucking sue her, muninn detaches nemself from her thoughts and melts into the shadows to pursue the person. or thing. whatever.
meanwhile, she throws a dry look up at the crowd beginning to gather around the sinkhole. "some help getting out would be nice," she says, a touch of sardonicism peeking through. tl;dr: stealthily sends muninn off to investigate the mysterious person, while iolani asks bystanders for help getting out
Some of the bystanders appear genuinely willing to help, approaching the collapsed portion of the street and reaching down to first pull Julius up from the underground tunnel. [break][break] However, before they're able to give Iolani a hand -- and just as Muninn is rounding the corner to chase after the stranger in the tunnels, the symbols on the far wall begin to glow -- a light distinctly different than the one which initially illuminated the tunnel intersection just a few moments ago. Runes on the wall in the shape of an arch flash in a blinding array, causing both Iolani and her familiar to lose sight of their surroundings for just a moment, white nothingness dominating their vision. [break][break] When their perception clears, the two find themselves somewhere dark and unfamiliar... [break][break]
