Heath bowed slightly feeling a shade embarrassed at the unfamiliar gesture but is quick to shake it off. There were more important things to worry about. He did say to himself he wanted a chance to participate, if only to get closer t the more powerful combatants for interviews. Still, there was something exciting and a little nerve wracking abut participating himself. He didn’t really know much about his opponent off the top of his head, and maybe given a little bit more time he would’ve researched and put together a strategy. Was that illegal? He didn’t know. Nevertheless, he supposed winging it would be fun too.
Sinclair stands poised and ready for their first move. Despite all his teasing while Heath attempted to spar, the familiar was itching for a good fight. Heath wondered if sending off a spell successfully felt as good as landing a right hook. “Right then.” He said as he held up his wand in his opponent’s direction. Green energy began to spread from the tip to the rest of the wand before an ivy vine shot out towards Charani. Heath squinted, focusing on the plant life that had burst into existence before watching the vine begin sprout sharp thorns out of it.
“I ask you to figure out a plan and this is what you come up with?” Sinclair’s voice hissed in the recesses of Heath’s head. “I’m working with what I have.” He said back, not entirely focusing or even lamenting his lack of strategy.
"May fate be just in this fight," Charani said with a solemn smile on his face. He had dreams about this fight. Dreams about many possible fights during this tournament. Some were not terrible. Most were the worst possible outcomes. In one of them this boy had his arm crushed by a rock beyond what magic could repair totally. There was another boy using some kind of magic circle to heal him when he woke up.
Dreams don't matter right now. What matters is what will happen in this time... in this reality. Teddy was standing by his side so... everything would be okay. Everything would be fine. The canine familiar stood at the ready, looking like he would rip the other boy to shreds if given the chance. He wouldn't though. Well... no he wouldn't.
The young man... um... Heath? Yes that was his name. Well Heath made the opening move, his wand pointed at Charani and a spiked vine shooting out of it towards him. Don't get touched. Don't let anything come near you. That was the goal of a duel right?
"Lets go Teddy," he said as he pointed his wand towards the other boy and the spell being thrown at him. It was plantshaping no doubt. As far as he knew no other affinity controlled plants like that. If he just put up a wall then the thing might be able to go around it. The best bet was to stop the spell. A bright white light glowed like an ember on a cigarette on his wand. PURIFICATION: BREAK FLOW, the spell to disrupt active spells by cutting off their mana supply. This should stop his spell in its tracks.
He needed to counter though. The young man really needed to fight. Regardless if the purification worked this spell would probably help as well. He pointed his wand to the ground and the tip glowed an amber brown color. TECHNIQUE: EARTH SHOWER would lift a bunch of rocks into the air and shower them down towards Heath. He didn't have a lot of control of where they'd hit other than the general direction and area of effect. Oh well.

He watched as the spell combination reaching out to slap his opponent squirmed wildly in the air. It didn’t quite reach his opponent and he wasn’t sure it would anymore. Whatever interference was going on, better move on. With a swipe of his wand, the end of the vine spell to the ground. “Run!” Sinclair ordered, eyes on the rubble that began to fall towards them. “Get closer to them.” Heath replied as he broke into a sprint to the right, eager to get out of the impact zone. His feet glowed faintly with magic before the blond slid forward, skating after his familiar who was already doing the same. The majority of the rocks crashed behind him and he already pictured bruised rib at the very least. Duels were way quicker at inflicting pain he supposed. He flinched feeling a stray rock smack him in the shoulder blade. Great.
Sinclair was already moving on, undeterred by the harm that had come to his witch. Their timer was ticking already no doubt. He slid to a stop, calling off the skating technique before lifting his tail and flicking it in Charani and Teddy’s direction. Spots around them glowed fiercely for a moment before spikes of ice jutted out different directions as Sinclair attempted to trap them into a smaller space. Maybe if he managed that Heath could actually hit something. Heath’s roughly stopped next to Sinclair, barely managing to catch himself from tumbling forward. He lifted his wand again, only to pause as he realized Sinclair had moved for them.
The rocks sailed downward towards their target only for the witch to make a huge break for it. The size of the place certainly help as at Charani's current level he couldn't blanket the entire area in front of him with stones. That would be insane. He did however get a strike in... or at least that was how it looked to him. It is hard to tell though as it was still kind of far away.
"Teddy get ready," he said as he pointed his wand towards the other boy as he froze the ground and skated away to escape. The familiar was closer to him of course. Maybe he could dematerialize the creature first? No it was a much smaller target to hit and while he had very good aim... at this distance it was hard to aim well at something that small.
Spikes of ice began to erupt around him... trying to close him in. Teddy jumped back as the ground below him froze and spikes rose from beneath where the canine had just been standing. Trying to box them in. Smart move he had to give it to the older witch. Given his size this was the best way to land a hit as it would be hard for him to jump out of the way without getting a face full of ice.
He didn't need to escape though if he just hit him with a good spell or so. The young man threw his arm back and launched it forward like he was throwing his spell instead of just casting it. With a good old flick of the wrist he let loose with bright, lightning like energy in the form of GENERAL: VIBRIONUS, the spell to disarm and cause the target to spasm. His plan so far was to just keep throwing this spell at Heath and pray he'd get a hit in. Teddy was his backup since he was pretty well boxed in by the ice.

Sinclair darted away from him as Charani prepped another spell all too quickly. Heath followed his partner’s lead eager to side step whatever was next. The wand pointed at him and there was a flash of energy. Heath hit the ground hard, and he vaguely recognized Sinclair shrieking in pain. He felt something go numb and something else shake. Wait, not, he was shaking and whatever was numb was just his face on the stone floor. At least it had been quick, if not intense. Still shaking Heath forced himself to his knees eyes darting around in confusion. He was still conscious and therefore he still owed it to Sinclair to keep his end of the deal and suck it up. Heath scrambled to snatch up his wand that had rolled away a few inches after his hand had loosened its grip.
Meanwhile, his familiar huffed in irritation, black pelt bristling as energy coalesced from every hair before floating upwards into the sky for a moment. Still on his feet but determined not to stop until they were forced to stop. Energy solidified to tiny bird needles, a good enough group on its own. The magical swarm took to the air, spreading out only slightly before finding Charani and beginning to crash land. “How are you holding up?” Heath asked his companion as he stood in place trying to regain control of himself so he could at least run to safety before the next round of spells came through. “WHY DIDN’T YOU DODGE, HEATH?!” Sinclair’s voice boomed inside his skull. He flinched. It was a good sign at least if Sinclair still had enough fury in him to lash to telepathically, they were probably fine for a few more smaller spells. Maybe not another big one though. Please not another big one, Sinclair. Griping his wand once more, Heath pointed it at Charani again. He didn’t want to take another shock. Instead he simply hoped their wands were similar in material. The tip of his wand let off a green light once more as he focused on the other witch’s wand, willing for it to, hopefully, grow spikes.
His spell had hit. What luck actually. He honestly wasn't to sure he'd be able to do it with the ice all around him limiting his mobility. Well that was one shot for him at least... then again the other witch was not down from that attack. He'd have to try again... and possibly again. It was so much easier on non human enemies who tended to run in fear after being hit by that kind of spell.
Heath still had enough energy to cast off spells fairly quickly after being hit with his magic. He admired that kind of fighting spirit. It reminded him of Miss Claire... one of the greatest witches of the current lot. Sure he was kind of in her fan club but that didn't skew his opinion... right? Right! Hahaha. The ice came for him. He couldn't dodge it without injuring himself on those ice spikes. He was taking to long to think. He felt one whiz past his ear and hit the ground, ice shards breaking off as ice hit ice. He put his arms up defensively without thinking as two more ice birds came in. One ripped at his side... fast enough and the ice sharp enough to draw some blood. Fuck that was going to hurt. The other cut his left leg enough to bleed but the wound itself was minor. Damn that was going to hurt. It already hurt.
This entire time Teddy was gathering mana before jumping in front of Charani using TECHNIQUE: ROCK SATELLITE. Three large chunks of stone and earth ripped from the arena ground and formed a barrier between the ice birds and the witch. Chunks were torn off the stone barriers upon being impacted but let's face it ice is much more fragile than stone. The three barriers quickly hovered around the witch like they were planets orbiting the sun. Large wall like shards of planets at least.
He felt some pain in his hand as the wand grew spikes. He dropped it out of instinct, seeing blood as there were thorns pricking out of the wand he had. Well shit. He kind of needed that for Vibrionus... well for any kind of accuracy at least. The spell tended to run wild without a medium like a wand.He just needed to be able to move.. distract. Something. Purify the spell placed on the wand. 'Teddy, hold him off for a second while I get the wand back,' he thought to his faithful hound. The small canine simply grunted as it used mana to push the rocks outward in an effort to break up some of the spikes on the ground... and possibly hit the duo they were facing.
Charani on the other hand just needed to place his hands over the wand and break the plant spell. It looked like a very simple spell so it shouldn't take much mana to break. He placed his hands over the wand on the ground and let them glow with a white light as he used PURIFICATION: PURGE to attempt to purge the spell from his wand so he could pick it up again. Teddy in the meantime was charging himself with mana as he went on the offensive. He was out for blood.

Heath was grateful for the brief respite. It gave him more time to figure out what the hell he was doing. With the shock of pain gone, all that was leftover was a burning sensation where he’d taken the spell directly and a soreness that spread throughout his legs and his arms. He didn’t want to run anymore, and he was half hoping they would call the duel already. Besides, Sinclair was handling this fight beautifully. No doubt the ingrate would be biting his ankles later though. He hadn’t sounded happy right after the last spell they took. “I think I made contact!” Sinclair announced as Heath moved towards him, eyes on his opponent and wand at the ready.
His familiar’s enthusiasm was cut short as the other pair quickly turned to the defensive, and easily blocking the attack. Sinclair hissed a cursed into Heath’s mind, but he was more focused on the large pieces of floating rock. “No.” he said to himself. The downpour of rocks was one thing but that, that was definitely bad shit waiting to happen. That would totally splat Sinclair. The coati however, didn’t see an issue, already beginning to circle their opponents to find an opening. Heath’s feet began to glow. IF speed was a necessity then he’d have to skate again. Before he took off the other way, maybe hoping Sinclair and him could try to pinch them, he watched the slabs move forward. Ice easily smashed against it. The soles of the witch’s feet began to glow once more as he tried to side step one of the satellites. He tensed, the sound of a rock slab just barely hitting him too loud and too close for comfort. He spotted the opening briefly, ironically it was the way Teddy had made by sending back the rocks. He’d go through there, he thought before a sudden pain shot through his head and his shoulder. The surprise sent him stumbling forward, the ice under his feet dissipating.
Sinclair hadn’t dodged that. Instead, the familiar had tried the brilliant idea of sliding on ice and whizzing underneath the attack. Cool in theory but judging by the squirming coati on the ground he’d totally been nicked by a passing rock. Or was it that he’d been brushed aside. Sinclair was too busy cursing up a storm to really clarify. The pain numbed quickly at least, now that adrenaline was working hard to keep him focused. This was going to suck when it was over though. Regardless he would at least try, if only because if he rushed to Sinclair’s side now he’d get an earful out of him. Heath flicked his wand at Charani, barely keeping it from flying out of his grasp before another vine snapped into existence and rushed forward at Teddy.
The purge spell was taking to long... in a battle that could be decided in seconds he needed to work faster. Smarter. Something better. He had no choice. He left the wand on the ground and would just have to make due as the clocks ticked down. Who needed a wand anyway? Well he did but still it wasn't going to help now.
Heath was flying around like a ballerina on skates. A figure skater? Yes that was the correct term. He was dipping and weaving and trying to find an opening to assault either Teddy or Charani. Naturally Teddy was the better choice given he was in closer range than the young witch was. He was running towards the man when a vine started coming towards him. He was close enough to Heath at this point that really he had no time to react. As long as Heath didn't trip or like magically get smacked in the face with a salmon the dog was gonna get vine whipped as the young pokemon trainers say.
Charani couldn't put up a purification spell fast enough. His body was slowing down, the cut on his side screaming at him to stop moving so much. The adrenaline was wearing off and his injuries from those stupid birds was actually being felt instead of just being annoying paper cuts that bled a little. Only choice was Vibrionus. Without his wand he couldn't really aim well or control it. It was just luck and hoping. He concentrated his mana into his hand, shooting out VIBRIONUS like lightning. It was larger and weaker than the spell before. It was also wild and out of control. It was all up to luck if it would hit anything. The dog would no doubt try to get back up if hit or if captured by the vine gnaw down and try to break free. Who knows... all anyone knows is time is up.
[break][break]Charani Petrov's eyes turn white and he appears to lose all strength in his legs. He is overcome by a vision more severe than any he has experienced before...
[break][break]The counting woman's voice is vaguely familiar, as if you've heard it once before in a long ago dream.
[break][break]"eleven... twelve... thirteen..."
[break][break]You see a war occurring all around you between strangers dressed in fashions long past, but the spoken numbers are all you can hear. Swords cleave through flesh and bone, and the ground below morphs unnaturally as opposed witches fight for magical control of the battlefield, both strategically and literally. The metallic tinge of blood stings your nose, mingling with the scents of upturned earth and burning flesh.
[break][break]There are not just warriors in this fight, but the very old and young as well. A bolt of ice slices through the skull of a stunned teenager standing in front of you, its tip coated crimson. You cannot close your eyes. You cannot move.
[break][break]The eyes of many of the fighters seem dazed, devoid of feeling as they fell the opposing witches (screaming, pleading, weeping as if they had lost someone dear). You cannot hear their anguished voices, but you can see the pain in their expressions.
[break][break]"one hundred and twenty... one hundred and twenty-one..."
[break][break]And then without warning, as if a switch had been turned on, the woman's voice is drowned by the sudden roar of the fight. Any lingering sensation that this might just be a dream or illusion is gone. You are there, immersed fully in the chaos. And you realize now, these faces are no longer strangers. You see friends and covenmates, all slaughtering each other with little discrimination.
[break][break]You cannot speak as Percy approaches you, so calmly, so quietly, and impales tendrils of solidified shadow through your chest.
[break][break]The fight freezes, and all is silent. But the pain lingers.
[break][break]"two hundred and four."
[break][break]A feminine hand, the only moving object of this scene, reaches from outside of your field of vision and pokes Percy gently on the cheek. The inexplicable thought that she must have cerulean blue hair passes through your mind, but it is swiftly banished as she walks into your view and you can see her entire head is nothing but a ram's skull.
[break][break]She stares at you -- no, she stares through you, with those empty sockets revealing nothing of her intent.
[break][break]"have you already forgotten us? All of us from Metnal?"
[break][break]The skull nears your face, and you feel her fingers press against your forehead.
[break][break]"two hundred and... five."
[break][break]You succumb to the irresistible urge to close your eyes.
