this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.
THERE WAS NO LIGHT I SWEAR I COULD SEE A REARING FEAR
Lucena could feel her own chest rise and fall, her breath wavering as she steps towards the arena; her small and nimble familiar materializing on her shoulder when she had stepped in the sight of the spectators. She had been certain that participating in The Emperyal Cup was something she wanted to do though she couldn’t prevent the nagging thought in the back of her mind that maybe she rushed herself into this. She tilts her head towards the spectators for just a moment, red eyes lingering on them before she forces her attention onto her opponent.
She offers a small smile to the purple haired stranger before bowing her head respectfully towards them, thin delicate fingers wrapped firmly around the base of her wand and she adjusts her body into the proper voice. Silas flutters away from her shoulder as she extends her arm outwards, the tip of the wand directed towards her opponent without much hesitation. (Show them hell.) She hears a gruff voice in the back of her mind and her brows seem to furrow in acknowledgement; Silas had always been a hell-raiser after all.
“Good luck.” She calls across to the girl before she allows the mood to shift, her mind focusing on the task at hand; eyes briefly locking to signify she was ready. The tip of her wand soon begins to crackle with an air of electricity, sparks fluttering across the dark crafted wood before it juts towards her opponent without warning. A flash of light shoots across between her and the girl all while her eyes remained fixated on the girl– she had sent out Vibrionus.
Zari made sure to wave to the audience as the entered the arena. Both she and her familiar looked as though nothing in the world could bother them—like this was the greatest moment of their lives. After all, regardless of whoever won this thing, it was important for everyone to have a good time. So why shouldn’t she be excited?
The more rational side of her personality knew the chances of being the new champion were low. Zari never really cared about learning how to fight until a few months ago, so any seasoned pro would mop the floor with her. As long as she got one good battle in before going home, she’d be better prepared for next time. She didn’t really know anything about the person she was fighting, but it was always safer to assume they were at least slightly competent.
“Of course” she responded, mostly out of habit. Luck was for lesser witches, and she wouldn’t dare to imply that either of them weak enough to rely on such an imaginary force. Zari twirled the wand in her hand and considered how to begin.
She had no intention of dodging the attack, but her familiar seemed to have other plans. Being roughly the same size, Galaxaura had little trouble in using her head to knock Zari over. The girl slid across the ground as the llama took most of the blow. Dazed, she almost turned to begin fighting the animal before remembering they were in the middle of a duel. There was another opponent and—
And she let go of her wand.
Not wanting to lose in the first five seconds, Zari grabbed blindly and found the wand almost immediately. Still kneeling on the ground, she attempted to return fire if only to gain some time to reorient herself. A burst of wind flew out from the end of her wand in the general direction of the other witch. Later, she might say she was trying to miss on purpose, because it probably wouldn’t hit anything unless they actively got in the way.
THERE WAS NO LIGHT I SWEAR I COULD SEE A REARING FEAR
The air seemed to crackle as the lightning darted from her wand and she had anticipated for her opponent to move though certainly not in the way she had especially with how the other familiar nudged her away from the attack without warning, (How lame, the llama had to save them.) Silas mocked, his voice smug within his witch’s mind and Lucena seemed to tense at the words.
‘This seems a bit poorly timed, Silas.’ She quickly moves to chastise him for his poor behaviour; the turmoil between them distracting her briefly.
It was when the air around them that began to thin that notified her of the attack though it was a bit too late. As the blades approached, she dumbly moves backwards in an attempt to dodge the attack. However, she stumbles in her movements and she can feel the dull ache as one of the blades graces across her arm.
Her mind races for a moment and Silas can sense the dull ache as he flutters just above; her grip on the wand tightening a bit more. Lucena soon forces her arm out towards the other girl, the tip crackling as it produces a sudden and an abrupt force. A force made to push her opponent back, flying even.
With all the excitement coursing through her veins, Zari didn't know how to tell if the technique actually landed. Guess there would be a judge or somebody to point out that the duel was over. Since no one told her to stop, might as well try again, just to be sure.
First, though, she had to check up on her familiar. The stunning spell should be mostly over by now, and there was time to stop and ask. Turning back towards the llama, all Zari said was "You good?"
Aura shook for a moment before replying "Never better."
It seemed like the opponent knew a lot of fast spells, as this next round also came out in a hurry. Once again, Zari did not know how to block and wasn't interested in failing to dodge, so she braced for impact.
The small girl found herself knocked back, even lifted slightly off the stage. Before things got too out of hand she brought her hands together as a small cloud formed beneath her feet. With that, it was easier to float back down a few feet behind where she originally started.
Her eyes narrowed a bit as Zari nodded her head. Since there was no way the familiar in front of her actually saw the motion, she repeated the command telepathically.
This, was time to begin the real offensive maneuver. The llama pawed at the ground twice before breaking into a run. Head down, she did not plan on stopping until she passed the other team. Without hitting them, of course, because that would be illegal but attempting to do so?
THERE WAS NO LIGHT I SWEAR I COULD SEE A REARING FEAR
She suppressed the sigh of relief that threatened to slip past her lips when she noticed her opponent had gone flying when the spell made contact, she was not out of the competition yet and she almost wondered if she actually could stand a solid chance in the cup, “Close call, Silas.” Lucena managed out a laugh, red colored eyes briefly watching the bird take slightly higher ground than he had when he was forced away.
It was the slight pause between their spells that soon raised an alarm in her head and she eyed the other duo suspiciously arm poised defensively as she waited the strike from a spell though that doesn't seem to be the case for her opponent’s familiar. The dust that lie scattered on the ground soon scatters towards the air as the llama goes barreling towards her and she could vaguely sense the fighting spirit in Silas start to rise.
Her mind soon begins to race between the options, unsure if she should approach the situation with an offense spell or play defensively. Was her opponent’s familiar charging at her even legal in the duel? She couldn't recall the exact protocol, but she supposed it didn't quite matter in the situation anyways.
The distance between her and the llama begins to grow small and instead of entrusting Silas, she forces up a barrier in hopes the animal would collide into that rather than her own body. Of course, she didn't know their true intentions if there were any.
She didn't have time to stand here and wait for everyone to get into position. Those half-remembered rules said something about making contact--about having few moments to return fire after a hit, or else lose the round.
Zari would have tried earlier, but the after effects of that last spell still left her a little dazed. Now, she had no choice but to attempt something.
The llama tried to turn right, to go around the white-haired witch. Aura knew that getting too close ran the risk of accidentally tackling the girl, which was the last thing they wanted to do.
The magical blocking square was unexpected, but could be worked into the current plan. Ideally, it would move along with her, to stop her progress. To be honest, it didn't matter as long as the familiar got out of Zari's way.
The witch held her wand trained on her opponent, not risking to move any more than necessary. Magical energy built up, gathered, crackled before she finally allowed it to burst forth. The lightning attack arced its way towards the enemy, but Zari did not really care if this instance of Vibrionus landed.
As long as she didn't wind up hitting her own familiar in the process, this match was totally going her way.
