this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to

Now Water can flow, or it can crush. Be water, my friends.

The rapturous sound of the forge echoed from the front of Cassius’ domicile, a small space that would better be described as a large shed or a small workshop rather than a home. The front garage style door currently sat locked up to vent out the heat of the forge and let the cool breeze from the nice day inside. Cassius stood at his anvil, hammer in his hand banging away at a red hot piece of forged iron. Holding it to the anvil, a small group of hardened shadows made sure it didn’t move as he banged away at it, the resounding chime-like sound of metal forging metal echoed down the streets, nothing too bothersome for the neighborhood as is didn’t lie near the center of sundial.
Aloft in the rafters sat Beck, chastising Cassius for using his magic for something so trivial as holding metal. The powers of the Constantine bloodline are not some mere twine. The reasoning that you treat them as such when you do use your magic is beyond me.
“I don’t like my family’s magic Beck, you know that.” Cassius personally enjoyed the conversation, even if it was mainly just Beck rattling off insults and acting high and mighty. The noise was just different from the faint roar of the fire in the forge or the rhythmic twanging of hammer-on-metal. “Besides, this is still technically practice. And anyway, I can’t really go hunting anymore without at least a spotter for me.”
That’s why I exist, replied Beck, sounding offended. My sole purpose is to keep an eye on you and help you mature as the firstborn of the family that you are.
Cassius put the hammer in the toolbelt that sat around his waist behind the thick leather apron, sliding out a thick pair of metal tongs. A small solidified shadow came out from under the apron to help with the tongs, the one holding the blade to the anvil disappearing in a black mist. He quickly quenched the blade and pulled it back out, the oil of the quench tank catching on fire briefly. Setting the blade on the anvil, he holstered the tongs and picked the blade up in a thick leather-gloved hand, a shadow taking out a rag and wiping excess oil from the blade. He eyed the length making sure it was straight as he replied. “That may be so, but I’m not with the family anymore am I?”
I suppose-, began beck before craining his head towards the pathway up to the open door, his own form nearly invisible except for the faint red glow of his eyes in the rafters. Someone approaches.
In a deep voice Beck calls out from the rafters before Cassius has a chance to stop him, his voice dark and gravely with age, yet at the same time a chilling softness to it: “Who goes there? State your business.”

Okay, he came here to inquire about a blacksmith, not to be scared to death by this scary voice.[break][break] With the family having come along for a business trip here, Rowan was left to his own devices. Free reign to do anything but disturb them and bring them disrepute. And so, he'd ventured around, hoping to possibly find a blacksmith.[break][break] He vaguely remembers his sister saying she wanted a small dagger to keep in her boot. And though she could have gotten any famous blacksmith to do the job for her, she'd never told anyone but him about it. He decided he'd try to get one made for her birthday.[break][break] But now he was having second thoughts after approaching this store. It had looked nice enough, and he'd heard talking and hammering going on inthe back, but that voice - it creeped him out. Gulping, he squeaked out a "Nobody," in reply as he slowly backed away, being careful not to make any sudden movements.
Cassius let out an aggravated sigh as Beck’s words obviously got through to the person heading out here. Shaking his head, he set down the now quenched piece of metal upon the anvil so that it wouldn’t fall off and wiped some of the oil off of his hands. He came out here for two reasons really. The first was simply a request, as he was one of the only people in Jester’s Den with forge experience when someone called in for a sub out in this town, so naturally, Cass accepted, enjoying the thought of getting out to see the countryside. Of course, getting to hunt on his time off of the forge was nice as well.
Regardless, he couldn’t have Beck scarring off customers. He quickly walked out of the forge, calling out to the sounds of the person who sounded too scared to come in now. “Hey, hey, sorry about that, Beck can just get a little off-putting-,” rounding the corner of the entrance to the forge, he saw a familiar face that happened to be scared. “Oh! It’s, uhh, Rowan right? I think I bumped into you the other day while I was in the center of town?”
A smile replaced the worried look on his face as he began remembering the whole event with regards to the stranger. “Fancy running into you again. What brings you all the way out here to Gale Valley?”

A person pokes his head out and Rowan, still backing up, is surprised. He nearly trips over his robes in his shock, and he quickly flails his arms to keep from falling. The face that stares back at him is not one he expected to see again, much less here.[break][break] He blinks once before he hastily composes himself into some semblance of togetherness. "Cassius?" he asks, bewildered. He gestures his hands to the blacksmith shop in a hapless manner. "I - yeah I met you in town. I'm here to get a dagger..."[break][break] The Leviathan boy squints his eyes for a moment. "What are you doing here?" he asks, genuinely curious. He doesn't mean to sound condescending, and he winces when his tone nearly comes off as such. He simply wants to know what Cassius is doing out in Gale Valley. [break][break] "What a coincidence," he mutters under his breath. It's indeed strange to meet someone he'd only just met days ago so far from the main city. But he supposes fate works in mysterious ways. He glances at Cassius' outfit, then at the blacksmith forge, and some pieces click together.[break][break] "Would you be able to make a dagger, then? It's not for myself," he adds quickly, shaking his head. "It's for my sister. Um, a birthday present."
Claire's flail is broken. She lost her calm and panicked, picking up each broken piece gingerly. Her hands shook as she held the pieces. Claire knew that the stud was damaged. But she can't afford to go to a blacksmith and have it fixed. It costs too much money, and so she did everything she could to 'fix' it herself. She casts scrolls on it, enchanting it to hold itself together.
But all enchantment fades, and it's about time, really.
In the end she broke the remaining stud attached to the chain. She'll get it fixed, eventually, she has to. She does not need it in battle. She has her affinity and her familiar magic. But it's sort of her last resort if her mana runs out. But exactly how would she pay... that would be the real question.
Well she hopes to put it off when she gets back to Salem, but apparently she is overwhelmed by the sound of forging. A blacksmith, her exhausted mind whispers, and against her better judgment her feet brings her closer to the place.
Making a loud entrance, Claire shows up at the door, eyes hopeful. Her disheveled hair, casual appearance, blunt edges and curves and somewhat panicked look would surely be a shock to both me. One look at the place, and Claire holds her breath. It is indeed a forge... if eyes are on her she would them, before speaking direct and polite.
Cassius nodded, a huge smile upon his face. “A Dagger? Simple enough. I’ll need to run out and grab some materials for it in a bit here, but you could probably help me out with that.” He walked back around to the inside of the forge, waving for Rowan to follow him. As they got inside, he set his glove down on the anvil and walked over to the drafting table, pulling out a large swath of brown drafting paper, and a charcoal stick for doodling. “So, what kind of a knife did you have in mind? A cooking knife, a hunting knife, something she could just carry on her person? And on top of that, we’ll need to settle on a style of knife after we figure out the kind. Cooking knives are fairly simple once we figure out what you want to use it for, but personal or hunting knives have a great deal many more options in design…What does she like? What is her personality? I like to take these things into consideration when I design…”
He rambled on for a while, with questions about his sister, about the different kinds of knives, about the art of forging and comparing it to classical sculpture. It was a miracle he noticed the lady when she came in. Her appearance didn’t bother him in the slightest, mainly because he was so enraptured with the questions about the knife, but as soon as she mentioned a flail, he stopped, dropped his stuff, held up a finger with a “one second,” to rowan, and headed over. Surely enough, it was a flail, but the tips had broken off. He observed it for a minute, looking it over and rotating it in his hands. “Yes…yes…there are multiple fractures along the striking head, and signs of splintering along the chain…yes, it will need a complete reforge…” He set it down thinking of what to do. This was the most work he had all day.
“I’ll tell you guys what. You’ll need to put down some money so we can get it to the actual shop owner, he could use it anyhow, but we can forgo the majority of the payment if we hunt the resources down ourselves…If you guys want, I could definitely wave it if you help me hunt down some creatures in the forest here that grow ore on their skin and shells. If you guys help me kill them, we could bring the ore back here and I could definitely cook it up into some good gear. And on top of that, it would clear me the expense of having to pay someone else, and would save the owner a fair expense for the future.”
