Cassidy has never been a morning person.
Even when she was in uni, she'd struggled. Despite being studious and dedicated, she could never be on time. More than once did she arrive a few minutes late, blearily blinking, a cup of black coffee in hand--and her friends had often poked fun at her because she'd love sleeping so much.
When she arrived at Sundial City, she was eternally grateful for late evening missions, pasta nights, and everyone's care-free attitude. She could sleep in as long as she liked, and there's no one to tease her about it. Well, bar Erin and Juls. Her dear friends ( and well, boyfriend, as much as she hates the title ) whom she'd followed to Leviathan. Their interactions are a never ending stream of pokes and jabs, although she has to admit that she herself participates in the light bullying, too.
Unfortunately, she can tell that she's going to be at the brunt of this today. She wonders for the seventh time this morning, why she'd volunteered for this stakeout. It had been the only shift open and she's keen to prove herself but...
She just hates being up so early.
The sun has only started to peek from it's slumber, and she shivers against the chill morning air. There's few people in the park but them, but Leviathan figured that the conspirators are more likely to do this when it's early or late. She sits a little closer to Juls and huffs, slivers of white frost latching on to her breath.
[attr="class","jcontent"] Morning person or evening person aside, Juls was simply not a person that got sleep. He could run smoothly on five hours a day without coffee (though any more and the beverage was greatly appreciated). Hours when the sun had left the sky were filled instead with cigarette streaks and endless discussion with Hermione. Cass's sleeping habit perfectly contrasted his own - but on occasions like this it was fun to poke fun of her. [break][break] "Rise and shine," he said as the sun rays hit the corners of her eyes and made her twich in frustration. One of his arms relaxed and, completing an upwards arc, it came to rest against the back of the park bench. "Too early?" he chided, eyebrows raised but a gentle smile on his lips. "You're the one that slept through the other hours. The sun is already breaking---" His outstretched hand moved past Cass to block the sun for a bit, casting a shadow across her eyes. He quickly let the hand down to annoy her, however.[break][break] There was a hoot from the sky and Julius looked up-- Hermione shoved his head down by landing on it quickly afterwards. "Yeah, yeah, I get it," he grumbled, swatting above his head to get the owl to fly off. He sighed and turned to Cass conversationally. "Apparently, the area's been quiet for hours. Everyone checks out as entirely normal--" he hasn't finished his sentence when suddenly two people dressed in stiff, formal attire appear. They move quickly to the side of a tree where the sun has not quite reached. [break][break] Julius leans in towards Cass, pulling out his palm as though showing her something small and delicate. In reality, it's a palm-sized athenum interface, and it begins to change as his Observatory scroll begins to work... [break][break] using: observatory vol 1 scoll 3
She doesn't understand how Juls can go on such little sleep; while she needs at least ten hours, Juls can function and perform just as equally with half as much. She stifles a yawn, just as the sunlight rays hit the corners of her eyes.
"Way too early." She says, temptations of sleep lingering on her eyelids. "I couldn't help it." There's a moment of bliss when Juls moves his hand to block out the rising sun, but like the tease he is, takes it away just as quickly. She wrinkles her nose and reaches to slap him on the shoulder, smiling in spite of his intentions.
"Thanks, Hermione." She says. She's always been fond of his familiar ( even moreso than her own at times, as much as she would loathe to admit ). Jokes aside, it doesn't take long for them to regress back into mission mode; her eyes following his as it flickers towards the strangers.
Their shoulders touch, and he flips over his palm, showing information about their height, weight, and age. Around middle-aged, both of them stand taller than her. Useful information. She's always been impressed with Juls' affinity, but she is far too restless and offensive to replace it with augmentation. Cass would rather leave the data processing to him.
Her gaze never lingers on them, and they're by no means suspicious--but they're one of the only people in the park. She supposes that it's enough to garner their attention. These suits certainly think that they'll get away with such intimidation.

Julius lets out a huff of air from the girl's little assaults, smiling despite himself. He thinks that they inevitably look like the cereal packet image of a couple- they don't really have to try to fulfill their roles well. Being a spy...the thought crosses his head... Leviathan. Confusing thoughts. He sighs when he realizes his little show might have been too suspicious. [break][break] Or maybe the assholes just want the park to themselves? [break][break] At the least, that's what his angle will be. [break][break] "Hey, you," one of the men says, dressed in a short cape and a shirt and tie underneath. He has a jagged, scarred face. Easily recognizeable, easily stored to memory...the kinds of wonders you can do with information, really. [break][break] "Who me?" Julius asks, a smile on his face as he leans into the back of the bench. Hermione takes off, disappearing into the woods. The other man notices the tactic immediately and turns to look at the owl, clicking his tongue when he loses sight of the witch's familiar. "Is there something I can do for you officer?" he asks, tone sarcastic. [break][break] Intimidation doesn't quite work on someone who is used to routinely defying authority, after all. [break][break] "If not, we'd appreciate if you could leave us alone..." He pauses. "Or stay, actually, you're doing a great job of blocking the sun..." [break][break] He really, really needs to take a lesson on when to shut up.

She has to admit; couples usually don't hang around the park at six in the morning, sitting idle when it's chilly and the sun has barely broke past dawn break. They may look like a typical couple in theory, but it's like having a duel in a middle of a field of flowers. Unlikely.
Which may explain why the men come up to them, as dubious as ever.
Hermione's nearly silent when she moves, and Cass only knows that she leaves because of the slightly brush of air against her neck. She flighs off into the woods where Vali waits. He's patient, at least. They agreed to put him where he wouldn't be noticed. Having a giant, rebellious tiger familiar would entirely destroy their illusion of subtlety, and he would rather be outside than in his own strata.
When the men ask who they were, Cass opens her mouth to at least explain that they're only a regular couple, and that they mind her own business, but it's obvious that Juls has other intentions. He never changes; and offers back a sarcastic response in return to their not-so-friendly greeting.
"You've got a problem with us?" They say. Cass shifts slightly, glances at Juls with a look of trepidation and do not mess this up.
"No, of course not. We're only enjoying the view."

Julius is surprisingly quiet when the men speak, daring the two of them to pose a challenge. Unfortunately for them, Julius did not know very well when to back down. The casual indifference in his eyes, however, changes to something else. So these were the people defiling Leviathan. It had taken him and Erin a good long while to figure out how exactly to join the real coven, and this coven was one of the few things in this world that resounded with Juls on multiple levels. [break][break] So was it real anger he was displaying? Probably not. But there was s shift in the mood, a little change in the beat of the setting. [break][break] "No, of course not. We're only enjoying the view." Cass speaks and Julius's arm wordlessly retracts itself from her back. He smiles at Cass. "Don't lie now, Evelyn. What if they end up believing us?" He stands up from his spot on the bench, turning as though to fix his shirt and giving Cass a quick 'look' as he did. [break][break] Julius turns back to the men at hand. "We've heard the rumors. Let's just say we're interested in what you're selling." [break][break] There's a rustling in the trees, and Julius wonders if Vali and Hermione are doing alright. [break][break] "Leviathan, was it?"

Cassidy patiently waits for the men to stop speaking--and she's surprised that Juls does, too. She doesn't hear any quips or comebacks, but she can feel the subtle change in the air, something dangerous. Juls fits seamlessly into Leviathan's ideals of anarchy, and he doesn't take kindly to those who align themselves against them.
His hand slithers away from her, and he ends up calling her Evelyn. When Juls stands, his hands moving to brush away imaginary specks of dirt, her turns. Their intense yet brief eye contact is a message in itself.
"Aww, but I was just testing them, Rory." Cass says. Juls is much better at improvising than her, but she catches on easily enough. Confusion is clear on their faces, and they exchange looks before turning back to Juls, a glint in their eye.
She hears rustles in the brush where Vali and Hermione are supposed to be, but she doesn't look back. They should be fine by themselves.
"Yes, Leviathan...How much are you willing to pay?"

He sighs dramatically at Cass's little extension of their charade, but a cautious eye is kept on the men at all times- wary of the type of movement that he knows from experience will lead to trouble. Becuase he's been there before. And he'll go there again without much hesitation. [break][break] Because what's being a smart-ass without the ability to back it up? [break][break] However, the men's tune changed so sharply Julius was momentarily thrown off. So his little bullshitting skills hadn't quite gotten rusty. That was good to know. The raven haired male felt a near-tangible rush of adrenaline as he felt the stakes of the situation rise. Leviathan had prepared for this, of course. They had a sack of counterfeit coins in Cassidy's purse. [break][break] Yet they couldn't risk the fallout of being caught; by these goons or something else entirely. [break][break] They needed to flip the table in their favor. In other words, they needed to draw an advantage from the two men's lack of foresight. "Oh, our boss has more than enough for you, don't worry. We need to make sure the thing is real before we can present you with the generous offer, though..." [break][break] He gives Cassidy a quick look- she hadn't wanted to bring in the counterfeits in the first place. After all, this was supposed to be a 'stakeout'- but Julius had thought up the possibility and insisted. It was time they put it to good use. The sun now hovered a few feet off the horizon, as though ready to take flight into the skies beyond.

hile she's glad to have to have counterfeits with them, she's still unhappy that they had to use them in the first place. They weren't supposed to get involved--they're only fledglings, after all. Fortunately, it seems to have worked out in their favor; they've managed to bullshit their way into some information, and in exchange for practically nothing to boot.
They're not out of the woods quite yet, though.
Cass stands and holds up the sack of coins from her purse, counterfeit --hopefully they wouldn't notice. "The info." She says, her voice firm. She hides behind a facade of cold formality and professionalism, hiding her rapid heartbeats behind crossed arms.
"Alright--some of these guys, they're reviving the Leviathan name again." He says. Cass's eyes widen slightly in surprise, before she smooths it over. "They're doing petty crimes to spread the name. Won't be long until Sundial council notices. The boss is supposed to hit the Bell's Bar in about a week or so, actually." He snickers.
Cassidy looks at Juls uneasily, and throws the sack of coins in their direction.
"Thanks for the info. I believe these will suffice." Cassidy says before motioning Juls over with her head, leading them away with swift steps. But they're not twenty steps away when she hears one of them yell, and she turns only to push Juls out of the way of a stray fire ball.

The information is analyzed and copied word for word from his mind, his interface and thereby a portion of his permanent memory which he could remove later. "Thanks," he says, only seeing Cass's glance out of the corner of his eyes. The coins are tossed at the goons in an un-Cass-like manner, and in the vaguest hints of his mind, he registered that she must be feeling uneasy. [break][break] They break into a run as soon as they are out of sight and Julius calls Hermione to him telepathically, urging the bird to take flight even though an owl during daylight is as conspicuous as a bear in the city. He supposed Vali will be off worse. [break][break] "Go my ass" is his annoyed hiss when Cassidy attempts to push him out of the way. Julius grabs the offending arm and pulls her towards him, the fireball grazing the back of her head. Their eyes meet-- and then Cassidy is likely to feel a rush of cold water against her neck as Julius douses any sparks the fire might have lit, and anything that moment might have meant for them. [break][break] His hand slips to her wrist and suddenly he's dragging her through the alleyway shouting "Thank me later!" as he dashes through the winding alleyways that connect the residential area to the Hovel. It hasn't taken long for Julius to figure Sundial's messed up connection of roads despite hiding his appreciation of the messy city sprawl under a thick veil of disdain for the same. [break][break] His mind whirrs- he does not know if he can out run them. Cassidy is not a liability, but the issue is simply them against two thugs that are likely trained for this kind of situation. [break][break] As he runs, he catches sight of a street vendor nearby. Apples and oranges sound like the perfect recipe for disaster. Attempting to use magic in an accurate and stable fashion while running at high speeds isn't likely to work out well. Thankfully, he does not need stability. [break][break] He uses WITCH'S CALL haphazardly on the fruits, trusting Cass to apologize for his sake.

T
hey run away quickly, and she calls to Vali to run. He bursts out of the cover of the bushes and sprints, and Hermione's shadow passes over them as she takes flight. It's a jarring sight to anyone who catches sight of them, like something out of a fairytale.
Cassidy reaches to push him out of the way, but instead he hisses and pulls her towards him, the fireball inches away from her scalp. She feels the immense heat barely brush past her, and when she smells the burning scent of scorched hair, she thinks she would've rather taken the fireball to the back. She wipes away at the water left at the back of her neck, furious at how the mission has spiraled out of control.
Juls' hands wrap around her wrist, and she hastily trails behind him as they lost themselves in the maze that was Sundial's inner roads, twists and turns that are foreign to her mind. Funny, she thinks, because it could've been somewhat romantic in any other situation. Adrenaline pumps through her body, lungs burning with energy.
They soon pass by a street vendor, and when Juls catches sight, she knows what he has in mind. Fruit magically come towards them, rolling into the middle of the road where they'd just stepped. The thugs hadn't anticipated, and stumble across the arrays of fruit.
A couple more steps, and she suddenly stops and turns, casting KNOCKERBACKER at both of them. With the fruit and the push, the fall is practically unavoidable. They hit the ground ( rather painfully ), heads lolling to the side as they nurse head injuries.
She sighs and relaxes, calming her racing heart. She glances over to Juls, turning her head to lock eyes with him. "Remember when that happened to you?" She snickers, recalling their pasta night from before. She takes a deep breath, walks forward, and casts an augment, reversing their strength, making sure that they'd stayed down. She'd had never been so close danger. A date in the park gone awry, if they could even consider it one. They'd narrowly escaped today, but had it not been for that street vendor, she wouldn't have known what would happen.
But this could be considered a success--they'd gotten information and have managed to catch two thugs. She breaks into a smile and revels in the victory--at least, until she hears the angry yells of the vendor.

The thugs start stumbling and Julius and Cassidy race on forward, leaving them in a trail of figurative dust. It is only when the couple reaches the end of the alley that Cassidy spins around and launches a quick knockerbacker-- the thugs hit the pavement and fruit juice of all colors stretched beneath their still bodies like cartoonified blood. [break][break] Julius sighs and runs a hand through his hair- but Cass's words make him smile vaguely. "Like it was yesterday," he says shamelessly, chuckling when her facade breaks into a gleeful smile. Cass has always looked the most radiant without pretense- her smile is more than enough. When the vendor breaks their little moment of victory, Julius winces and tugs on his girlfriend's wrist again. [break][break] He starts up slowly on the backward run, smiling at the vendor. "Hey! Just call the knights and tell them you have a delivery of two free goons. They'll reimburse you!" [break][break] That is when the angry shouts turn into vivid profanities as the vendor gives chase. Julius expects no less, however. He's been ready for a long time. His gentle tugs turn into a pull as she whisks Cassidy away and darts out of the alley, feet thudding against the colorful pavement of Sundial's busy marketplace. [break][break] He does not know what it his. The logic in his mind tells him that it is because Sundial is associated with relief, reprieve, and other pleasant emotions. Maybe it's because the place is home to Leviathan. For whatever reason, he has come to like the city- as breathless as it makes him. [break][break]
