[attr="class","gearcore"] Zephyr's shaking subsided over the course of the child's ramblings. Though he paid attention, the questions which he verbalized were few. Only when mentioned directly does he speak up: "Yeh, some 'f the plants explode, 'parently."
As he sees one of the vines move out of the corner of his eye, he quickly reaches for his bags which Sao had so kindly collected (ah... he hadn't even thanked her) to return them to their usual position of hanging from the shaft of his broom. "We got company," he quickly notes just before the distant call of another monster.
"Yeh, I'm not hangin' 'round any explodin', mana-drainin' monster plants," Zeph says bluntly in response to Star's suggestion. He'd already mounted his repaired broom and motioned for Sao to join him. If the plants got too close for his comfort, he'd go so far as to physically pull her on with him. "By the way, thanks for gettin' all my shit t'gether," he says to her just before flying forwards towards the descending path. They quickly pass the small group on foot, but slow down marginally as to not stray too far ahead. "We should git t' the buildin's quick so we've got some cover. The plants stir around her, far too sentient and intent to be considered a result of wind and she scrambles onto her feet, the trembling returning to her hands as adrenaline begins to seep into her blood. A screech of something far away in the direction of the village sends a surge of fear into her heart and she bites her lip in stress. Even if this was the Wilderness, they really couldn't catch a break at all, could they?
Xuan takes control of Adalie's safety and that, for the moment, eases Saoirse's mind for a split second. The child is taken care of for the time being. Her eyes give a brief glance at her party members, wondering how each of them felt at their current state of events. She trusts Julius to an extent, a default allowed by their membership of one coven, but for the others, hesitancy endures a little longer. She lingers around Zephyr, waiting for him to take charge and once he does, she doesn't protest when he tells her to mount his broom. Nodding at his gratitude, she smiles in response, "No worries, I'm happy to help."
She forgets her fear of heights for the time being as they do not fly too high above the ground and the village soon comes into view; a cluster of small buildings hospitable for a considerable amount of people. She doesn't respond immediately to Zephyr's suggestion of hiding within the buildings, too busy observing her surroundings. The village is lifeless and desolate. Would she come across it any other time, she thinks that she wouldn't attempt to go near it in this state. The thought that being in a building would be the easiest way to trap them all does come to the surface and she purses her lips. But what better idea did they have, other than to fight the plants with what little strength they could muster?

Julius stares when Spock offers him a hug, nearly flinching at the physical touch of another living being. But then he sighs. He's always been an animal person and familiars were hardly expects to that rule. "He'll be fine within the minute," Julius comments, and then adds a snarky "See?" when Zephyr responds to Adalie. [break][break] Julius hardly even reacts to Zephyr's comment about company- his eyes move cautiously and slowly to the source of the disturbance. His own blase attitude disturbs him, but this malady isn't something he can recognize more give due time to right now. "Need a broom--" he looks at the shattered broom that's now completely fine in Zephyr's hands. [break][break] Thank god. [break][break] Julius kicks one leg across his broom and flies upwards, swiveling towards the quicker path, but he flies slowly and takes in every detail of the landscape of the village. He hollers in response to Zeph. "Agreed. There's something above us, we should probably get under a roof." [break][break]He looks for a semi-stable house and looks warily at the sky and the hillside they just left. Was losing the high ground going to be worth it in the end? His interface buzzes besides him, sustaining itslef easily on his adrenaline rush. [break][break]

@herb hippies squad | used: basic broomstick | looks around for info and an idea of the village. is patiently awaiting doom.
when the group enters the village, they realize that the sisters were right: the grass growing over the rooftops, the undisturbed nature of the place- it had been empty for quite a long time. but once again things are off: the runic barriers around the village have not shown signs of 'wearing off' or fading or exhausting due to continued and persistent monster attacks. instead, all the carvings and stone lie in smithereens. [break][break] the sign post for the village reads BEA_M_INS. two letters have since faded off and it's difficult to tell what they once were. [break][break] but it's not. the screeching gets louder. and in the distance, they see a gigantic bird rush forth- something very much alive dangling from its talons. it's a human being, and it's screaming. the bird has almost reached the village, nearly unaware of the group of adventurers there. it'll probably fly straight past them if they behave. the screams get louder. [break][break] above them, on the hillside, as though reacting to the cries of panic and despair, the plants begin growing at an alarming rate. they are stuck in the little valley village, and adalie mouths a silent scream. there is no mistaking it. she knows the person in the monster's talons. it's someone from her village- but all she can do is stare in horror. “Glad we’re on the same page,” Astartia said resolutely, casting a sweeping look over the rest of her “teammates” if they could be called that. “Things are already far too strange and I don’t like these little ‘surprises’…” [break] Astartia just wanted to see the end of the plants at that point in time — her group members had been hurt, they hadn’t even collected the flower, were tricked, more like, into thinking it was actually there; she was, suffice it to say, incredibly fed-up. She overheard Zephyr’s vocalization of using nearby buildings for cover, and nodded her head sharply. [break] Suddenly, a bird— or, really, a monster — flew overhead, and Astartia barked out a warning, telling Adalie and the others to get under cover while she backed off just under a nearby roof to where she could still see it. There was a… person? [break] Her bow was already out and an arrow slotted in, pulled taught and steadied right at the creature. Astartia couldn’t risk hitting the man, but their best bet was for her to aim at it’s legs or— wing? [break] “Whoever has a cushioning power — like bubbling or something — if he falls, be prepared to catch him!” [break] With that, Astartia loosed two arrows in quick succession— the first speeding toward the crook of the monster’s knee, while the other raced to lodge itself into the creature’s breast muscle which, if it even followed regular avian physiology, would hinder its ability of flight by interfering with its wing movement. [attr="class","gearcore"] Zeph just gives Juls a grin (more subdued than usual) as he begins to ask if Zeph needs a new broom. Spock gives a disgruntled hum as the plants begin approaching, quickly giving Juls one last pat on the cheek before leaping away back to her human.
The village had been long abandoned, despite the girl's words that she had only been gone for a day. Although she appeared to believe the story that she was telling him, there was clearly some important details that both she and their group were missing from the series of events. Zephyr had to wonder what exactly that "priest and aunty" had done when they demanded that she leave.
Zephyr quickly zips under the shadow of a building when the giant bird releases another screech. He would have resolved to stay there, too, had it not been for the screams of a human accompanying it. "Shit..." he muttered, peeking over the roof at the bird and its victim.
Before Zeph had a chance to weigh the risks and gains of helping this guy out, Star seemed to have already resolved to take down the feathered beast. Well, maybe they'd be lucky enough to get some answers...
"Xuan, keep yourself an' her out of sight, an' Adalie," his gaze turns to the child, "Don't ya run off this time. We've got it covered."
Zeph flies through the streets to put some distance between himself and the others, just in case the bird aimed to make an attack. He then rose above the buildings on his broom. Reaching into one of his bags, his hand returns with an obsidian dagger held gingerly between each finger. Spock, Sao may notice, develops a most eager grin and dangerous glint in her eye.
The human flings the knives skyward, and the familiar takes control of the sharpened stones' trajectory, slicing them into the fleshy base of the flight feathers of the beast.
Should the alchemist also provide the duo with something to throw, they stick a few of the sharpened stones into the cork of the bottle, directing it in much the same way as the knives, but aiming for the inside of the beast's beak as it shrieks.

His eyebrows furrowed at the sight of the village's sign post. Bea_m_ins. Their situation became more and more of a mystery to him.
The hairs on the back of his neck tingled at the sound of a bird's screech. Xuan watched with suprise at the approach of the bird they had previously encountered only a day before. There were way too many coincidences for all this to happen mearly by accident or sheer luck.
"Zephyr? Is that broom still in use? Here, " Xuan pulled out Aquapyra from his improvised sack, relishing on the potential chaos that it could entrail, before handing it carefully to the blonde. "It might come in use. Just make sure whenever you throw it, leave a big distance between you and the target." He warned and he heard Xue Mei cackling at the back of his mind.
It'll be like fireworks. Xuan shot her a devious smile but chose to remain silent. He turned to Adeline, looking with horror at the unfolding scene. He patted her head and moved to blocked her view. "We'll get them. Lets move out of everyone's way, alright?" He kept a reassuring hand on her shoulder, prepared at any time to turn around and use her as leverage, while guiding her to a safer place to observe the events unfolding.
tl;dr: hands aquapyra to Zephyr Hart because he barely has offensive attacks and finds shelter for adeline
The wind whips her hair around, pink wisps fluttering as they slowly began to unravel from her bun. The increase of speed causes a chill to run down her spine as things begin to feel incredibly wrong. They aren't flying that high up, but the crosswinds are strong. Too strong. The screech repeats again, its proximity far closer than she expects. The bird takes her by surprise as it approaches from the distance and she feels her body seize up in fear. They had to get out of its way.
The broom lurches as Zephyr directs them away from the sight of the bird, dipping into the shadow of a building. Her heart thunders in her chest and she can breathe just for this moment. As she looks up, she hears screams accompanying the flaps of wings, a sound that was definitely not the bird's. "God." She can see the human hanging from the claws of the bird, dangling precariously and she's bewildered and terrified by the sight. Why did the bird have a human? Where is it taking them?
Her questions are unanswered and quickly forgotten when the broom jerks again. What's happening now? Unadulterated terror enfolds her as she sees the ground drift further and further away from her. Her voice drops to a low breath, as she whispers, "Oh god, what are you doing?" It's much less of a question than a statement of horror as blood rushes from her face. She should have told him much earlier that she didn't deal with heights very well. Earlier meaning the start of this whole debacle when he first invited her to be a passenger on his broom.
She watches Zephyr hand a knife—a knife!—to Spock and becomes wary of what the monkey familiar will do with it. Shaking, she prays that if the bird doesn't knock her off the broom, she won't faint from fear either. She still had bubbles to cast. A big one at that, if she was going to try and catch a person.

[attr="class","paige_post"] Julius doesn't bother with Adalie- he's not the kind to be good with kids so he'll leave that to whoever else. Which was, apparently, the man that had offered her candy. Totally not suspicious. Alas, he'd be playing the hypocrite if he said he really cared what happened to the girl. There was a very small space for people he could actively care for right now, and the runaway ghost of a girl wasn't one with that prerogative. [break][break] When the bird screams from the sky, Julius feels the sudden urge to laugh hysterically. [break][break] Hermione materializes at his side- her eyes are wide with caution and wisdom beyond her power. But there is not room for elaborate plans, only madness. Sometimes, he realizes, there will be no use of information. Sometimes nothing all will make sense. He'd just have to do what he'd done before in times like those. [break][break] He lifts to the sky on his broom, and Hermione flies at his side. She overtakes him quickly and spirals higher and higher until she's well above the bird that is, hopefully, distracted by all the madness being chucked its way. The owl's six feet of feathers and claws look misplaced in the spotless summer sky with the sun beating down against her back. [break][break] Remember when we used to go fishing? This is something just like that....[break][break]
Hermione tells him very frankly that the two are nothing alike and that she regrets ever telling him her true name. [break][break]Julius has no rebuttal.[break][break]
The owl descends upon the bird, attempting to rake its back and neck and inflict as much pain as possible. Julius hovers around the bird in an attempt to maintain close proximity with Hermione- he is ready to cast any spell that might save her, at any opportunity he can see. [break][break]

@herb hippies squad | used: basic broomstick | does some dumb shit. hermione tries to attack the bird. juls just flies around stupidly.
the group decides to fight, and the instinct is well-found. but perhaps not the most well thought out. [break][break] the initial attack, the arrows, come as a shock to both the bird and its victim. the first arrow meets with the thrashing legs of the prey, and slice cleanly through human flesh. a scream pierces the sky- flecks of red stain blue and come crashing down as the bird whips around, swivels. the second arrow misses the bulk of its target, but does hit something and sets the bird into a screeching frenzy, spinning in an attempt to readjust its flight.[break][break] and when the bird turns and sees them for the first time, they will be very vaguely able to register that is eyes are human. [break][break] the plants underneath them shake the ground and erupt through the patched floors of the houses- the growing moss comes to life and dozens of flowers bloom. a vine whips away zephyr's knives, though one connects and the bird screams in pain. the human drops into the madness below. [break][break] the AQUAPYRA is deflected again by the vines just as the bird nearly scrapes the ground. a huge portion of the village begins lighting up in flames. the bird nearly crash lands but is quick to restabilize and force itself upwards. just then, HERMIONE swoops downward and rakes its back. the bird trashes at first but then glances sharply at juls. a gigantic VENUS FLYTRAP encases the witch in its jaws, and the Eurasian eagle owl screeches in pain before beginning its downward descent. 1/3 wrong choices have been made so far. the group has attacked the bird. the first arrow hits the victim and not the bird, the second arrow misses. the plants seem to react to the bird's distress, and they start pulling offensive attacks against the entire group. julius kingston, in particular, finds himself encased in the jaws of a giant flytrap. zephyr's knives inflict sharp pain to the bird and as a result, the human is released and begins spiraling downwards. unfortunately, the individual seems to be falling towards a huge fire set off by an AQUAPYRA. the bird itself seems to be struggling to remain in the air but is doing well to maintain distance from the ground and is using the plants to keep the group busy. [break][break] a fight scenario has been activated. does the group continue, or flee? if they continue, what is their method of attack? their strategy will determine if the next round begins with a setback or an advantage. [attr="class","gearcore"] As the vial shatters, Zeph gets a sneaking suspicion that Xuan might have been the cause of the fire the day prior. (Thankfully, Zeph was much farther from the fire this time around). And, similar to the day prior, the plants were getting out of control at unnatural rates not too long after they were attacked by a giant bird. But which of these things were a result of the others? He doesn't believe in coincidence enough to give these situations much benefit of the doubt.
There isn't much time to think, however, as Spock leaps to the tip of the broom and shrieks in frustration as the vines flick away 3/4 of her knives. She mentally pushes the one embedded in the tip of the avian's wing to twist and slice into the flesh, as it was currently the primate's only outlet for her aggravation.
The human who'd been clutched in the bird's talons fell, and Zephyr quickly rushed his broom forward to catch them by the arm. Thankfully, humans are a much easier target to reach than bludgers, and Spock offered very specific mental instructions to make up for his own lack of depth perception. He tried to ascend to put some distance between themselves and the growing plants, but it was difficult to do at a reasonable pace with one extra passenger than intended.
As he does so, however, he sees Hermione attack, followed by the much larger bird shooting Julius a glare and a plant swallowing the athenian whole. It almost looked like the avian realized that the witch and familiar were connected, and could control the plants at its will. Actually, that was exactly what this looked like.
"This's bullshit," Zeph growls as he struggles to hold onto the stranger and keep his balance on his broom simultaneously. Briefly, his gaze flicks back to Sao. "Could use a hand here, mate."
As Zephyr steers the broom, Spock again uses her elemental abilities to lift one of her knives which had fallen. She learned from the previous attack and didn't aim it in a straight line. On the contrary, it wove through gaps in the monstrous underbrush, aiming first for the stem supporting the venus flytrap which had just eaten Juls. Neither Zeph nor Spock were plant experts, so they could only hope that chopping off the "head" of the plant would be just as harmful to the green offender than it would to a human.
They did, however, know quite a bit about how things fly. The next target -- whether it was from the same knife which hit the plant or another which had fallen, was the shoulder joint of the bird, following the same non-pattern of chaos as before. She would attempt to strike the same area with another knife, followed by a slice at the large avian's eye, holding nothing back, despite its uncanny resemblance to a human gaze.

tldr; 1. zeph catches the falling stranger guy & tries to fly upwards, away from the plants. (unfortunately, broom wasn't made for 3, so progress is slow). 2. Spock continues using lift + her knives to stab things (venus fly trap, large avian's shoulder, and large avian's eye from afar).
Distinctly human were the eyes that stared back at them in fury of loosing one's prey. Xuan's browed twitched a little in surprise but his gaze hardened the next second. Zephyr does a good job at lobbing the potion at the bird and thankfully heeds his warning about being too close to the explosion but Xuan tuttered in disappointment as a vine knocked it off its course.
He watched as the village caught on fire burning down into the ashes it was built upon. His gaze slid to the child by his side, a twinge of sympathy yet again surfacing. Losing your home, your safety mat withdrawn the second you step onto a tightrope. He knew that feeling too well by now. Of course it's a human, who else would be controlling the forest against them? Xue Mei growled and he snapped back into reality.
He is greeted by the sight of advancing plants and a witch already being swallowed by one, immediately activating skater. "We can't have another round of mana absorbing pollen again." Xuan petted Xue Mei's head and watched as his familiar disappeared beneath his touch. "We have to run." He told the girl gently before picking her up and heading to the direction of Zephyr slowly flying on his broom.
"Warn me if anything is coming on ground alright?" He called up to the flying witch as he skated closer to them.

Mana thrums in her fingertips as her hand is outstretched towards the direction of the bird. She doesn't anything yet, the jerking of the broom far too terrifying for her to be able to concentrate well. Her eyes follow the movement of the bird, seeing arrows whizz past and embed themselves into its plumage, triggering screeches. Spock's all too happy slashing at the bird, with glinting knives and when one hits true, it's a frightening moment when the human slips from the bird's claws.
Zephyr directs the broom to catch up, the sudden additional weight causing unbalance. Her hands immediately grasping onto whatever she can of the fallen human, she heaves as hard as she can to pull them across the wooden beam so that she can hold onto them properly. "Hang in there, I've got you."
The whipping vines have her holding onto the human tightly and she genuinely thinks she stops breathing for a few seconds when Julius disappears into the mouth of a venus flytrap. Her thoughts seem to coincide with Zephyr's, as she concludes that the bird is somehow connected to the flora. A highly unfortunate fact. Inhaling a shuddering breath, she braves the look towards the ground, seeing Astartia and Xuan still fending off the bird and keeping Adalie safe. As the aquapyra-induced flames rage on beneath them, she quickly stretches her hand downwards and gather as much as focus as she can. She feels the water materialise and shoots a relatively strong PILLAR towards the plant, hoping to either break its stem to force its jaws to reopen.
She nods when Xuan calls from below, slightly disconcerted that he was essentially abandoning them, although with relatively valid reasons. Readjusting her grip on the human, she turns her attention back to the bird who still lingers before them. When she sees the face of the bird close up for the first time, she is highly disturbed by its human features, irked beyond belief and she shivers. Things were getting too strange far too quickly.

“Shit,” Astartia cursed as the man screamed; while one arrow had hit some part of the creature, her other had gone astray, striking the human in the beast’s stead, though she knew it was a risk — hopefully it wasn’t a fatal wound, though Astartia couldn’t tell from her distance. The bird turned to look at them after the arrows struck, and Astartia's jaw fell slack for a moment. [break] That’s… no… animal… [break] Achelous Phorcys, she finished her thought with force, pulling Salacia back into their realm with a tug of her will. The boa materialized at approximately three feet in length, draped across Astartia’s shoulders, head raised in a protective stance. [break] What— [break] Suddenly, the flora came alive, and did so with a vengeance; out of the corner of her eye, she saw the man falling, falling, falling until Zephyr caught him, Saoirse aiding in bringing him onto their broom though not without struggle and strain on the device. She let out a momentarily relieved breath before she saw what had happened to Julius— [break] Her body swelled with mana as she launched herself forward, following up on the earth duo’s work upon the flytrap by slamming the side of it with her own water, ignoring the vines that had been chasing after her, though there were noticeable scrapes along Astartia’s legs. [break] Without wasting a beat, she forced her arms around Julius and pulled him free of the plant’s grip, grunting with the weight of him as the force pulled her back and behind, almost losing her balance entirely. [break] “Salacia— bubble!” [break] In haste, Astartia felt a sort of weightlessness overtake the three of them as a bubble of water formed around them, lifting them up into the air steadily, getting just out of reach of the plants in time so as not to be broken. [break] “I don’t have any sort of healing… spells or anything in my repertoire but I can try and help get you fixed up otherwise?” she offered to Julius, before she felt the coolness of water over her skin; Salacia was seemingly maneuvering the bubble, and eventually they made it right to the edge of a building… [break] “This might hurt a little but just— trust me, just jump or use that broom of yours if it’s still even okay…” With that, Astartia reached back for an arrow and plunged the tip through the bubble, feeling the gravity shift abruptly as it popped around them, leaving them midair; Astartia had rolled forward along with the arrow’s momentum, Salacia clung tightly to her shoulders, and met the hard surface of the building with an inelegant, resounding thud as she rolled once more across the roof. [break] Clambering back up and ignoring the throbbing of what had to be swarms of bruises swelling under her skin, Astartia slotted another arrow in place, pulling it taut and steadying her aim to fall back upon the— beast? human? [break] At this point, Astartia didn’t care; that thing was trying to kill them, and might have even played a hand in prior events, which endangered people she cared about as well, including now, so she felt no guilt toward her target. [break] For that was all it was to her: another target to be struck down. [break] Taking a breath to lessen the movement of her weapon and keep it steady, the arrow flew through the air, speeding back again toward the bird; two more would follow after shortly— out of the three, one was aimed at the head, the other two at the bodice. All she could do now was watch and see if they hit. tl;dr astartia is like "oh shit lol" @ the dude, goes to Save Juls™ for the showbizz contract and salacia comes back ayy and they bubble to safety or whatever and then astartia looses three more arrows at bird human dude guy ALSO if there are issues :eyes: just lmk and i will change ze post accordinglyArrows Remaining: 15/20

The first thought is fear, he cannot deny that.[break][break]
And then it's a total rejection of the fear as shock settles in: human eyes. Staring so intensely at him, and only for a moment until-- [break][break] The next thought is pain. The world is shut in darknes as jaws bite into his body- nothing deep; but the acidic digestive juices are enough to make his body writhe. He thinks of Hermione, but he realizes he cannot see her, and that if he opens his eyes he will see nothing but the inside of a plant's mouth. [break][break] Curiously enough, that thought motivates him to peel an eye open. [break][break]
It looks as horrifying as he'd never imagined it to be. [break][break] He's going to try something stupid and insane. In a desperate call for help, Julius would attempt to use WITCH'S CALL on objects he couldn't see-- objects that hopefully were lying just outside the plant. Objects that could dig in deep and slice its sick throat open.[break][break]
But he would never know if that really worked: the flytrap was split open by something else entirely. Before he knew what was going on, he was in the open air. Which somehow felt incomprehensibly worse than anything so far. Julius could not pretend he really heard the girl to respond. Instead, he just winced and closed his eyes, crystal clear water appearing across his body as Hermione forced a remedy on him.
