this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.
[attr="class","gearcore"] Zephyr didn't consider himself a true expert on table-top role playing games. He had to consult the reference tomes and his shorthand notes on his Aethenium interface fairly often, if he decided to follow the rules at all at any given moment. However, he enjoyed it regardless, was fairly talented in making up new characters and situations in the face of the party's unexpected choices, and tried his best to allow everyone to enjoy themselves. He'd even gone and modified the blueprints he had for clockwork mice to make little clockwork figurines of elves, dwarfs, orcs, and other fantastic races to mark the positions of the party on the grid.
Spock, for once, was not perched on Zeph's shoulder, since she was playing the part of an adventuring party member -- a stab-happy Drow who knew sign language and how to write in common, to accommodate her real life aversion to verbal speech. Zeph translated the signs when needed.
Thankfully, it was late in the day and the cafe was fairly empty, allowing them to be a little boisterous at exciting points in the adventure. "Alright, so you've gone into th' forest in search of a girl who'd gone missin' from the town. How do ya plan on lookin' for her?" As Zeph asks, he pulls up an overhead map of the woods (most of which was blank and unexplored by the party) on his aethenium interface so they had a better idea of the task in front of them.
Billy Kasparianlíng lù-xī there's some rpg-ception going on rn & also, both humans and familiars can play if they want /o/
The cafe was fairly empty and that was just how he liked it. No more teen girls or middle aged men in suits hanging around being super annoying with all their bull crap interrupting the game. It was just peace... quiet... and murdering orcs with arrows. His favorite activity of course.
The young man was dressed in a hoodie with the hood currently up over his head with a little peak of black hair sticking out. He had his character sheet in front of him as Zeph did his thing. He liked when other people DMed because he liked to fuck around and see what he could get away with.
Dr Puddy was laying on the table by the Ling with a piece of paper and a bored expression on her face. She was playing as well but seemed to not really care what was happening. She never really seemed to care except when she could do something very... unsavory. Lets just say she was not in the 'good' alignment character wise and leave it at that.
"Is there anything we can easily see and how dense is the forest? Like can I see more than three trees in front of me or is it like super thick I need an axe to get through this kind of forest?"
The young man looked at the map in front of them which was mostly blank. The best thing to do was go forward. He looked at his other party members as he spoke. "We should go forward and see if we can find anything interesting? Maybe we could do some scouting or something? Up to you guys."
Dr Puddy looked at the group boredly. She didn't seem to have a strong opinion one way or the other. "Are there any living things near us. Some kind of trail or tracks or anything that seems off." She posed it more as a statement than a question. Her voice was low and sultry unlike her appearance as... well she was a house cat. Of course she was trying to push information out of Zeph without offering to roll for detection. She liked to do this often... only rolling when asked.

She's perched on the very edge of her chair, eyes bright, leaning forwards till almost all of her weight is supported by the table as she gapes at the interface Zephyr pulls up. "That's so cool," she whispers, eyes wide in awe. Sitting calmly beside her elbow, Valkea watches the entire table with the same placid amusement that he'd watch the apocalypse with, tail swishing back and forth in a slow, regular rhythm. Neither of them really know how to play, or what exactly they're doing, but Val is hella good at faking it until he makes it, and she can adapt on the fly.
Chewing on her lip, Ling tilts her head and asks, "does the forest have some sort of reputation, like, for monsters or anything like that? 'Cause I could try and scout forwards for suspicious stuff and clues." Playing a lightfoot halfling thief with a penchant for mischief and wanderlust, she can't wait to explore the area. Aaaaand to see how Zeph will manipulate his display as the adventure progresses.
Glancing at Dr Puddy, then Billy, then gaze returning to settle on Zephyr, Valkea patiently waits for the posed questions to be answered before making his own move.
[attr="class","gearcore"] Zeph was glad that Ling seemed to be enjoying her first ever campaign. Like with most hobbies, it was a bit of a downer if most of his friends showed nothing but disinterest towards it. He grins at Ling's compliment. "Right? I figured I gotta at least learn athenium for th' fancy maps since I'm too hopeless at transfig or illusions t' make myself look like different characters." He had other reasons for beginning to train in this particular school of magic, of course, but his Jester friends didn't need to know anything about that.
"Where you're standin' right now, the underbrush ain't an impediment, so you can make your way through without a weapon. That said, ya can clearly see 'bout 50 feet in front of ya, and there's def'nitely some areas that look like they'll be more 'f a struggle t' get through," he says to answer Billy's questions before turning to Billy's familiar, "An' the only livin' things ya see presently are your party an' the trees... unless ya wanna make a perception check t' make sure. Lookin' for tracks would be... rollin' a survival' check, I'm guessin'. Or search check. Whatever ya got."
Spock, meanwhile, rolls one of her dice and points to it emphatically. The top face was a 16, which was fairly good. "I mean, yeah, I guess ya can stab a tree t' make sure it's not a druid in disguise," Zeph says, uncertain if he should even be requiring a roll for that, since he did not, in fact, fill these woods with any sneaky tree-druids. "Your shortsword cuts through the bark. It seems t' be a normal tree."
Spock continues to roll, evidently stabbing additional plant-life as the rest of the party debates their course of action.
"Ya didn't get a real clear story from the locals, so ya don't know for sure, but it'd be safe to assume that they hired you guys t' do this for 'em because there's some danger involved," Zeph says to Ling to answer her question, "Anyone who has it can roll for their nature or local knowledge."
"I say we start going through the woods Lingy ling. ONWARDS TOWARDS ADVENTURE!!!!" he shouted towards the girl seated by him. His little bard character was ready to take on the world. There was the magic of the dice roll. GO DICE ROLL! "Okay rolling for a detection check then!" he said excitedly, rolling his dice like the silly young man he was. Let luck be on someone's side this day.
Dr Puddy was sighing as she got almost no information from the dm. This always happened with Zeph... unlike most of the others in this little group he had a good head on his shoulders and was difficult to trick into giving up free information. Not impossible but difficult. She didn't seem to want to put in the effort most of the time to do so.
The group was looking at a pretty much blank map so they should explore. Maybe the thief should be the one to try and scout for information. It made the most sense but then again when were they ever doing things that made sense.. The best thing to do was go forward.
Dr Puddy continued to seem bored. She didn't seem to have a strong opinion one way or the other. "Roll the dice for me human; I wish to look for tracks." She was looking at both Ling and Billy wishing for one of them to roll dice for her. She didn't have hands after all so somebody would have to roll for her. She was a familiar sure but she was still... you know a cat. With paws.

Ling grins at Spock as the monkey continues to roll for stabbing the trees; there's something funny about the fact that she can totally imagine Spock doing so in real life. Actually, she'd put good money on Spock really have had done so in real life. Valkea offers his quiet, perpetually amused agreement.
She considers the information Zeph has presented, her braid twined between her fingers as she considers what to do. "Onwards we go," she agrees with Billy, smiling at her fellow novice. Grabbing the dice, she rolls for Dr Puddy, then considers her own move. "I think I'll roll for a search check then? Is that different from a detection check?" A little hesitant about what she's doing, she's nevertheless excited about the possibilities and the beginning of the campaign. "What about you, Val?"
Her familiar tilts his head at the atheneum display, then glances down at his character sheet. "I assume, as an elf, I should have some knowledge of nature," he muses drily, tail flicking behind him. Never one for dramatics or overly long waits and conversation, he decides quite quickly - probably having already made his decision before being addressed. "Rolling for nature knowledge, please."
