Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.
Heath dug a nail into Billy’s hand for a moment, displeased with the name. “Call me Heath.” He repeated as he let off. He watched his companion move slightly in the darkness, only to recoil as he realized the guy’s face was getting too close for comfort. He managed to hold back a huff as Billy assured him they were going to be just dandy. “It might help…” he replied. Heath waited patiently, his interest piqued as he heard the soft tinkling of glass. Potions? He let go of his partner’s hand to carefully take the little vials, before pocketing them carefully. What the hell had he just been handed. It’d be funny if it was just glitter water or something but it could just as well be something awful. Or dumb. Or awfully dumb. Billy seemed capable of it.
“Thank you…” he whispered back, regardless of his suspicions on the matter. He patted Billy’s arm for a moment before going back to holding his hand once more. “Well, obviously you’re the bait, kid.” Sinclair hissed while Heath snickered in agreement. “You have better mobility in here than I do. I’ll wait at the mouth of the cave for you. Follow the ice on the wall back. A little light should make it easy enough to spot the shine.” The blond explained as he idly pointed their hands to the side of the wall he’d been fondling the entire trip here.
“Or, you know we could go back and see if we can grab some of the dead sheep. You can smooth talk your way around the guards right?” Heath suggested. If that failed Heath could take a crack at persuading the guards. Or at least, distracting them but he doubted disabling a ward wouldn’t be noisy. “I thought live bait would be the easiest to acquire at the moment.” He added with a shrug and a small smile.

So that was how he wanted to play this. He'd get under his skin just like he did everyone else. It wasn't hard. "I don't mind a little pain if that's what you're into" he said with a serious face. He kept that face for a total of five seconds before he bust out laughing. Oh god he couldn't breath. His lungs man were on fire with how much he was laughing and how long he'd kept that serious face.
The black haired male watched as the other man inspected the potions. Truth be told these were some strong ones so he'd rather the boy not play with them to much. He really didn't want to have to pick up pieces of the young man up off the ground when the fire melted the flesh off his bones like it would do to those wolf creatures. Those poor monsters didn't stand a chance.
He was going to be the bait. That was fine. He would just make a pretty light show and make his way back here so that his partner could smack them with liquid fire and burn the creatures to death. It wouldn't be very hard and it would be a rather painful death to be honest. It'd be rather quick though given how weak these creatures were compared to himself and if he did say so himself his potion making skills were top notch.
"Trying to seduce one of the guards eh? Maybe some other time... I can lure them out no problemo" he said with a hammy salute motion like a boy scout would give to their team leader. Field leader? Whatever scout master or something. Who cares it was time to go wolf murdering... er hunting. You know same thing.
"Dr Puddy? If you would be so kind," he hummed, opening the large pocket of his bag for the familiar to jump in. He wouldn't really have much problem being to far away from her since the part of the cave where the creatures were wasn't super deep but there was no sense taking any chances. Better to be able to use familiar magic than not.
The cat creature dematerialized into her host before finally dematerializing on the ground in front of Billy. The small cat jumped into the small knapsack before she and the bag were slung over Billy's shoulder. It was time to be all bait and stuff. "I'm off; make sure to aim well." He was serious about that. He really didn't want to start a forest fire if he could help it.
Billy turned on his heels and drudged back into the cave towards the two wolf creatures. He used Technique: Orb Creation to produce a small orb of light that was floating in his left hand like a flashlight. It was easier to see now that he didn't have to worry about being caught... that was kind of the point. The sides of the cave had a thin sheen of ice that glittered the light any time he held the orb closer enough to illuminate the frozen water. This made navigating much more simple since he didn't have to rely on Dr Puddy.
It took him maybe two or three minutes to find his way back to where those stupid wolves were. He could hear them growling before they actually came into view. That was probably thanks to the light making it easier for them to sense him before they could see him. He gave Dr Puddy a quick pat as he made a... well to put it bluntly he made finger guns. "Pew pew..."
That is verbatim. Literally what he said as he charged mana into his fingers and let loose with two shots of Technique: Single Shot at the creatures. There wasn't much power in his attack... more using the offense to get their attention. The first beam hit its mark, striking one of the wolves in the back. The creature whimpered in pain as it was struck. The other wolf was faster and barely managed to dodge the small beam of light. The beam crashed into the wall instead and gave a brief flash of light as it dissipated. It was at this point that Billy started to make a run for it. He could only hope the creatures would follow towards Heath.
“Maybe if you were older.” Heath returned tiredly. He waited quietly as the witch got sudden giggles out of his system. Ha, ha…could he take this seriously now? What if he made to much noise?! He turned his head away in case Billy spittled while laughing too hard. The blond half considered smacking Billy with his own hand but resisted the urge. His partner took to the idea of being bait surprisingly well, and Heath smiled in relief. That made things easier at the very least. “Good. This plan is faster.” He said, happy that this was going over so smoothly. He let go of the witch’s hand and squinted at the young man. What the hell was that…? What did that even mean. He awkwardly returned the salute, not understanding why there had even been a need for it. “Right, please be careful.”Please don’t do anything stupid…
With that he turned the other way and nodded to Sinclair. His familiar moved close to his legs, pressing onto them with brief warmth before scurrying forward. The coati was careful to keep the tip of his tail brushing Heath’s legs. They kept a brisk pace, every so often, his hands would brush with the trails of ice he’d left on the wall. The reporter stumbled a few times but he never tripped and fell. Heath made it out back to the mouth of the cave without face planting on the ground, thank the gods. He squinted a little at the extra light but was relieved to be back at the entrance again. Now, to set up for his plan before whatever the hell it was Dr. Puddy had found. “Sinclair don’t look.” He ordered a few feet just before the exit. Before the coati could snap back something indignant, the witch took off into a run. He hated this technique but he needed it badly. With a burst of cold magic, the rocky ground at his feet was coated with a slick coat of ice as he used the Skater technique. The blonde flew forward with the grace of drunken alligator before he was thrown forward at the threshold of the cave. The reporter caught himself on the ground but his hands and knees weren’t spared from impact. He swore to himself having felt a rock dig itself into his kneecap.
“Ah Heath, my beloved with. A paradigm of beauty, elegance-” Sinclair began as he jogged after the man. “Fuck off!” the witch hissed as he forced himself off the ground and moved quickly. “I should’ve mentioned eloquence.” Sinclair muttered with a huff. Grass stains and raw palms aside, he could manage. What was important is- panic flared as he heard the echo of loud footsteps coming from the cave’s insides. Well, shit, he hoped the ice Skater had left over was good enough. While screaming a long line of ‘FUCK’ in his head, Heath traced a line with his palm a couple of feet long. “I’m going to pray you’re tall enough to take out someone’s knees.” He whispered as the vegetation he’d touched began growing. Within seconds a two foot long wall of thick shrubbery popped out of the ground. Now that he looked at it he felt less confident than before in his plan. With the stomping growing louder and louder Heath had to push the negative thoughts aside and back away.
“Duck to the side!” he called into the abyss before backing away form the entrance. Sinclair was already on the move, and rushed past Heath and up a tree. Seemed fine right? Heath hid behind the trunk. There wasn’t enough time to scramble up with his familiar. He shoved his hands in his pockets and pulled out the glass vials Billy had given him. “Please don’t be fucking with me…” he groaned as he held a vial ready to huck it as soon as he saw the monster rush out.

Heath currently had a 50/50 shot of using the correct potion. There were four bottles of this so called potion that looked... well mostly identical. Of course two of said potions were quite literally spring water with glitter mixed in from the craft store. Maybe if he was lucky the glitter would get into the wolves eyes and blind them for a second if his choice was incorrect when he threw the bottles.
Billy was thankful that he was a rather athletic person all his life so this entire running thing wasn't much to his body. Just imagine if he was some kid who stayed in their room all day and didn't exercise like... you know ever. They'd be so out of breath at this point instead of just breathing a little heavier from the exertion as one does when running away from wolves. Demon wolves but still same idea.
He could hear Heath shouting into the cave as he got closer to the entrance. It was easy to tell where he was going thanks to the little ball of light in his hand illuminating the ice upon the wall. There was even some ice on the ground now that he was getting pretty close to the entrance. Ice magic or something like that... cool beans. It'd be very handy for mixed drinks or ice cream making wouldn't it? It didn't really matter as he could see the entrance of the cave within his field of vision. Maybe five seconds or so more of running and he'd be outside. He could hear the wolf creatures behind him snapping and snarling as they were running after him. Good. He hadn't lost them.
"Flawless cartwheellllll" he shouted as he... freakin.... cartwheeled to the side of the cave to his left. This had to work. He just hoped the boy was lucky as he gave the young man all of his potion bottles so this was all totally on Heath now. He was not a betting man but he'd rather this work than him having to get his hands all bloody and dirty.
The wolf creatures skidded to turn as the young witch cartwheeled out of their line of vision. Given how fast they were running this wasn't likely to happen as turning on a dime at running speed wasn't something that was easy to do. Any trap that Heath had laid would probably work as long as it was quick acting. Heck he'd probably have a good shot at them as long as he acted quickly. He just had to choose the right bottle. Odds were good he'd at least be able to take out one since two of them were potions and two were water.
Heath could only stare in utter shock as Billy, almost casually, cartwheeled flawlessly out of the cave. Not that Heath could judge, he couldn’t do a cartwheel. It just looked nice. He pushed off the thought because now was NOT the time for this. Hot on the guy’s heels were two very large, very angry looking wolf creatures their jaws snapping at the witch. He felt a sense of dread so close to danger for the first time since…ever really. He sold drugs and wrote for a living. There was nothing dangerous about that. Usually anyway…
The bulking heathens were fucking slow though. As they skidded in an attempt to follow the live bait he watched one slammed into his Barrier. It slowed it down a bit but the damn thing was gone now. Heath tossed the little file. The glass bottle glinted as it soared through the air before slamming dead center on one of the wolves’ back. He barely heard the smash of glass before the little vile erupted into a raging inferno. The flames were intense as they quickly coated the entire thing. Heath grimaced as he watched the monster spasmed. It screeches and writhed uncontrollably, unable to put out the flames. As the air filled with the smell of charred flesh and singed fur he screamed at Billy. “You couldn’t have warned me about what I was carrying?!” he yelled at his partner amid the terrifying screams of the monster. He’d skated carrying this these tiny bombs. Despite the heat of the flames he felt a cold sweat.
The other wolf flinched away from his companion, rabid eyes now moving onto Heath as he stood out in the open. He’d stared at his mess for too long. Shit. Heath floundered as he grabbed another vile, equally terrified of what he was holding. As the monster ran, jaws gaping wide open Heath launched another vial at the beast. This time the glad crashed against its muzzle. A glittery, wet mixture splashed onto the wolf’s left eye but aside from aside from a growl it wasn’t really bothered. It had stopped to shake the glitter water off though. Heath’s eyes were wife in surprise. Where were the fucking flames, Billy???
“Run!” Sinclair snapped from the safety of his tree before jumping over to a different one. As the wolf resumed its run, Heath bolted at the last minute. It slammed into the trunk but was only stopped for a few seconds while the witch scrambled to the right, still clutching the remaining vials. He was too scared to drop them and get caught in the flames that would follow.

There was a plant trapped it seemed looking back at the wolves. The first wolf went right into the vines and was slowed down just enough for a vial to be thrown and smacked into it. The other boy had chosen well it seems as the wolf demon creature was quickly lit ablaze by the liquid fire potion he'd made. The creature writhed in agony as it failed to put the flames out as it was burned to death. The creature barely had time to do anything before expiring into ash.
"You never asked," he shouted in response to the attack on her person. If Heath had bothered to ask diligently enough he'd probably have told him the truth. He liked to dodge and weave around things sure but this was a mission so he probably wouldn't straight up lie to his partner. He wasn't insane after all he was just... well... he had issues.
The black haired male watched as the other wolf went in for Heath now that it had seen what the potion had done to its companion. The second potion wasn't... well a potion. It was some of his glitter water that he used to discourage stealing and pickpockets. Sure you could get a potion that made fire... or you'd get literally tap water with glitter in it and it looked the same... well to everyone else at least. He put a small black heart in sharpie on the bottom of the real potion bottles for reference to himself.
Well he couldn't very well watch Heath die now could he? That would mean he had some explaining to do and thus far he'd enjoyed teasing to poor kid. Billy hiked up his pants to reveal... a knife?? The young man hummed as he took aim at the wolf, throwing a steel blade at the creature. Truth be told he had pretty good aim and thankfully all the attention was not on him. That meant the wolf creature was blindsided by the knife.
The wolf creature howled in pain as the knife struck it's side. The creature turned towards its current attacker as Billy moved closer to Heath in a circular move. The creature didn't seem to be very intelligent. A scoff could be heard from Billy's backpack from Dr Puddy. She was annoyed at how long this was taking. Can't this be over yet?
"Try another one!" he shouted at Heath as the wolf charged towards Billy. The young man poured his mana into his hand to create another orb of light before essentially throwing it at the wolf. The orb exploded upon contact into blinding light. It wouldn't and couldn't do any physical damage but it was enough to blind the wolf creature for at least a few seconds. Disoriented the creature was ripe for a counter attack. This was Heath's chance. If only he picked well. Items Used: Alchemy - Aquapyra && a knife Techniques Used: Single Shot && Orb Creation
Heath fumbled with the vials as he tried to protect from harm but also not fall flat on his face again. He had to suppress the overwhelming urge to turn and look back at the monster. That probably wouldn’t end well for him. “I think you could’ve at least given me a bit more of a warning as to what I was carrying!” he yelled back. After all, he could have been the one burning up and turning into ash instead. That wasn’t on his list of priorities tonight. At the scream from the wolf, Heath deigned it safe enough to turn around and look.
He watched just in time to watch the wolf rear back as it was blinded. As his partner shouted at him Heath put a vial in his right hand and threw the damn thing at the demon. The glass bottle spun midair before crashing onto the beast’s shoulder. Again, no flames. Just the shimmer of glitter water flying in the moonlight. “If you’ve got more knives, now would be a great time to pull them out of your pants.” The blond called out, backing away from the wolf as it shook off the lights in its eyes. Still in its line of sight, Heath moved eager to duck behind the trees for cover.
The wolf lunged forward once again, more irritated than ever after the assault. He contemplated briefly how long it would take the damn thing to catch up if he broke out into a full sprint. Maybe he could spring an actual trap on it? At this point, he was about to get mauled either way. One vial left. Either this one was good or he could look forward to becoming half chewed up wolf demon dinner. Heath pat the ground in front of him whispering, begging for nature’s cooperation as he tried to set an Entangle trap before rushing forward. He craned his neck ready to rid himself of the vial before realizing with horror that he wasn’t holding it anymore. Before he could really figure out where it was, the monster landed in his trap, vines sprung up from the ground and quickly latched onto its legs. The sudden grip took it by surprise and it promptly fell. As its full body weight hit the ground it also crushed the missing vial.
Yet again the horrifying screams of a damned wolf rang out through the night. The fire burned easily through the fires and clung onto the monster as it desperately writhed around trying to stop them. Heath panted agitated and a little messed up, but overall fine. He stared at the smoldering remains for a moment before shuddering once more. He skirted around the ashes and carefully walked back towards his partner. “Are you ok?” he asked out of courtesy. He slapped a little at the grass stains on his knee, and made note as the small tear on one of them. “Was that it or is there more?” He asked tiredly. He didn't want more. That was enough of a scare for tonight. Sinclair found his way out of a tree and join his witch, drained form the experience. Not that he’d been in any real danger, just Heath. Oh well.

Heath was running around doing some magic type shiz. The third bottle thrown was the other glitter water bottle so that means he had a 100 percent shot of success for the next attempt. "I'll remember that for next timeeeee," he yelled back as the boy ran for his life. He'd be fine.
Billy could have thrown the other knife he had on his person. He for sure could have. Did he thought? Did he? No. Of course he did not as the young man sprinted around the battlefield trying to outsmart and out maneuver the wolf creature in order to kill it. "Sorry, good luckkkkkk!!" he shouted at the young man when asked to help with his throwing knives. He'd shout out some light magic if need be. He really didn't feel like this would be needed though. They had the last wolf on the ropes.
He could hear the wolf creature in front of him snapping and snarling as it ran towards Heath. He couldn't see the moment of impact but he could see the smoke. He could hear the cries and screams as the wolf burned to death. He could smell the burning flesh as the creature turned to ash in front of them. It was done. With the deed done he could feel Dr Puddy vanish into the void of his body knowing she wouldn't be needed anymore.
Heath walked towards Billy eventually, looking a little scuffed but otherwise unharmed. He looked a bit worn out and like he was totally done with everything that had happened. "I'm fine, are you injured?" he asked politely. He was mildly attempting to seem like he cared more than he did. He looked unharmed so he wasn't really worried. "That's all of them. You did good kid. We should let the farmer know quick and then I'll walk you home. Sound good. No? To bad let's go." He had totally decided this all by himself. He reached out his hand to try and drag the other boy along back to the farm. The mission was complete. They just had to quick report in and then make their way home.
The blond shook his head. “No, fortunately.” He replied with ease now that he didn’t have to worry about pissing off wolf demons or keeping concealed. After all the yelling from before, the guards at the wards were probably incredibly aware of their presence. There wasn’t really a point in keeping in quiet anymore. “Good.” He muttered, happy to know they were done. “Uh...thanks? It's not necessary though.” Heath grimaced as his partner asserted that he would be taking home. He would rather keep the location of his house a secret for now. Still, Billy seemed annoyingly determined and unless he broke out into a sprint once they hit the city, he doubted he could lose him. He could probably outrun him…on a better day. Great.
“Well, you certainly aren’t coming in if that’s what you want.” Sinclair huffed as he gracefully dropped from the tree he’d been hiding in. The coati sauntered over to his witch, before effortlessly climbing the poor reporter. Sinclair shot a withering glare at the stranger as he perched himself at Heath’s neck. There was barely space to contain the entirety of his fat self. Heath, already resigned to his fate allowed Billy to start dragging him away. He was too drained to object with anything more than an annoyed grumble and a roll of his eyes. Sure, he had hoped to part ways immediately after so he could quickly jot down his thoughts before he blacked out, but this was fine too. This was totally fine.
