Copperhill Ranches, they didn’t tell you, was hot. Sweltering almost, but especially so today with the sun beaming down its heat on the land. How did the sheep stand it? Maybe that’s why sheep didn’t object that much to being shaved and groomed for their wool. He waved idly at the farmer, covering his mouth as he started to feel the infection cause form the farmhand they were substituting. “Ya’ll don’t worry about it. Gotcha the sweetest ponies and packed some lunches. Careful not to herd them into bushes, they might get stuck.” He said, standing a healthy 15 ft away. Corvus appreciated that. He tightened the knot on his flannel around his hips and tipped his borrow cowboy hat to the owner of the place. “Thanks for the advice.” He said politely as the man pointed over at his companion, the one in charge of this whole operation.
He was just here to assist. Which he would gladly do. Hopefully, he could assist REALLY well and he wouldn’t get bruised or his face wouldn’t meet the floor. Then again, had he really ever figured out Siobhan’s moods? Nope. And he likely wasn’t going to anytime soon. Hopefully she’d at least wait until sun down to knock him out and didn’t just leave him on the trail for the wolves to eat. At that point he doubted Philippe would help either. Corvus shook his head, pushing away the negative thought and instead focusing on the horses they’d be dealing with and checking that all their ‘lasso supplies’ were in place. He was afraid to start off the mission wrong if he stood too close to Siobhan at the start.

Ranch hands. That was the main goal of this mission. Of course she mainly signed up to pet the cute little sheepies. YES YOU ARE SO FLUFFY AND CUTE YOU LITTLE LAMBY YES YOU ARE! How could you not love such adorable animals? Like they even made her dislike her annoying cousin lessen. Okay maybe he wasn't that annoying compared to... some others *cough* maddox rothscus ✨ *cough* but still.
At least it was sunny outside. The sun made the air so warm and pretty. Like it was a great day to do this. She was in her stretchy black pants and rain boots just for this. He was in a fake cowboy get up... okay not really but that was the best way to describe him. He was like a gay trying to be country and it was kind of ridiculous. She wanted to laugh so hard that her sides hurt from holding it in. She would mock him later.
The ranch man walked them through what they would do today. Let them out to feed them. Let them get some sun. Keep away any wolves or wolf like creatures that might try to prey on them. Then finally get them back to where they belong. It was pretty simple even this monkey could do it. Then again monkeys were smart.
"Thank you again sir." Time to get to work. Just don't screw this up young man or she'd for sure smack you into next week. Heck she might do it anyway but still it'd probably hurt less if you did this right. She pet one of the horses in front of her and seemed to be in a good mood at least. Well Corvus would screw up eventually so it probably wouldn't last.

Once given the ok, Corvus waves at the old man and then takes off in a jog towards the fence gate. He gives it a glance over before popping it open and pushing it open so all the sheep could stroll out of. With a small clack, some of the nearby sheep lifted their heads and began trotting towards him, other remained placidly baaing at one another, probably sharing sheepy gossip. He then jogged back towards his horse. A bit dark brown one with a but white spot on its head. He reached up to pat it before moving along to hop onto him. He gave the horse another pat between the ears. “Alright Pablo. Help me get them out of here.” He asked, hoping it was polite enough before tugging carefully on the horse’s reins.
Pablo turns with ease, probably used to newbies riding on him and begins to clop towards the standing sheep. As he passed Siobhan he attempted a friendly smile at her before asking, “You want to lead the pack? Or do you want me to do it?” The first chill spot was pretty close, but he figured he’d better ask. He was kind of the baby here.
Figuring she’d probably take point if she really wanted to, he continues on, Pablo easy carrying him around the sheepy congregation. The baas get a little louder as Pablo gets closer. He snorts at a few clueless ones but setting the mass of wool into a gentle walk towards the exit is easy enough. They were sheep sure, but there wasn’t anywhere else to go but out. This was around the time they were let out anyway, they should know.

The young man let the little sheepy baabaas out of the gate. They were so cute and yet so stupid. Like half of Corvus just minus the cute part. She really should stop disrespecting him in her head but what are you gonna do? Continue to disrespect him like the yeehaw twink he is of course.
The cute all brown horse of hers was ready to lead the charge. She wasn't going to but he was ready. It made the most sense for the weaker member of the team to take point since enemies usually attacked from the rear. It was best to put Siobhan in the back to fend of anything that wanted to pick off stragglers like wolves would probably do.
"I think you should stay in front while I come in the rear. Most likely they'll attack from the rear guard anyway." Her logic was fairly sound. They should get to the first grassed feeding and lounging area fairly quickly. It wasn't that far from the farm after all. There was also little danger this close to the humans of being attacked. It was when they got farther away that the problems would no doubt surface.
The young woman hopped on her horse and tried to huddle any stupid sheepies that tried to wander away. Maybe a bit of fire magic here or there to scare them back into line wouldn't hurt. Plus it wouldn't use much mana and was much better than trying to carry the sheep back into place which would involve her getting off her horse. Let's yeehaw.

Corvus is quick to give Siobhan a thumbs up and a nod. “Alright, I’ll pull up then.” He replied before turning Pablo towards the entrance. The sheepies parted like the sea for Moses as he clopped slowly into the mass of fluff. Corvus took a moment to reach back into the supplies he’d been given for their day trip to pull out a map and start familiarizing himself with the place. There was a huge red dot on the map marker YOU START HERE along with a route drawn in light grey for the trail they would be lapping. The next place was just a grazing area with a huge tree in the middle in case the sheepies got too hot and wanted to nap. At least, that’s what he assumed from the tiny sheep drawing on his map with the little snooze z’s above it.
He folded up the map small enough and pocketed it before patting Pablo and getting him to speed up just a smidge. He clicked his tongue encouragingly at a few of the slower sheep before taking up the front. Front there on it seemed like auto pilot. Unless Corvus tugged too roughly, Pablo already knew where to go. The quickly caught up to the first couple of sheep. He turned to his pardner and called out, “Shout if you want anything.” Before turning back and appreciating the scenery. The sheep could barely keep pace with Pablo, but it seemed it was excited to get going.
It only took a few minutes, maybe ten at most before the sheep seemed to speed up into a run. Going as fast as its little legs could take it, it sprinted into the clearing and made a beeline for the big tree in the middle. Corvus slowed Pablo and made him stop by the entrance to watch the rest of the sheep file in and wait for his cousin. Quickly glancing around, he noted there wasn’t really any fences but maybe some thorny looking bushes. This is probably what the rancher had meant when he said they ‘get stuck’. "Good job Pablo. You really know what you’re doing.” He said, praising the horse who gave no indication whether her really cared or not.

The first leg of their little adventure was... well kind of boring and uneventful. The area was well lit and fairly flat. There was a lack of many trees in this part of the area which wasn't shocking since there seemed to be quite a bit of farmland around. No doubt parts of the forest nearby were cut down to make for these farms.
The cute all brown horse of hers was just happily trotting along. She didn't really have to guide it much as it seemed to know where it was going. It made sense since this was probably a daily trail the horses took with these sheep. It was ingrained in their horse bones to just go this way. Hopefully this would all be that easy.
"K." They made it to their first destination and it was a small clearing with a large tree and some bushes. The sheep seemed to run up to and congregate near the large tree like it was something they just had to be around. Maybe they worshiped it as their god? The ancient tree god whom would give them plentiful grass to eat and protect their young from illness/wolves. They must bow and pray to such a great and powerful god of the forest. Or at least that was the story she would tell in a book.
The young girl may have used a spark or two of fire to disuade some of the straggling sheeps from going into what looked to be thorny bushes. They didn't seem to like it very much but... I mean they were sheep they had an easy life. They would spend a little time here before moving on. "The next trek is near a more wooded area so watch out for wolves. Don't want to have another family member missing a limb right?." Coming for your brand maddox rothscus ✨ aren't we?

Corvus hopped off Pablo once he spotted Siobhan. Pablo turned to him to snort at him before nipping at his hair. “Wait- hold up!” he said pulling away from the impatient horse. He reached into the horse stores. The old man had probably packed snacks, that’s why Pablo was being antsy. After a moment or two of digging he pulled out a rather large, red apple. “There’s not many in there so you gotta make them last.” He said. Though, something told him Pablo would squeeze them out of him at his own pace. Him being a newbie rider and all. He held out the fruit carefully before the horse pulled it away from him and then walking off to sit a little ways away from the sheep, cronching on his own apple.
Well. “Right, I’ve got some back ups-” he piped up as Siobhan spoke up before cutting himself off. “I-I’m not losing one too!” he protested. Could wolves even rip off limbs like that? He thought they just kind of rag dolled things until the blood loss got their victim. Then again, that didn’t sound pleasant either. Like being thrown around by a beartrap. No thanks. “If I see a wolf I’ll get behind you while you crush it or your horse does the same.” He hoped they didn’t see any wolves. Pablo would probably take off and leave him with his luck.
“Anyway, I can’t exactly do much unless you want me to start a forest fire.” Ha! As if his elemental magic was that strong. Hopefully it was enough to deter a wolf from biting his face off. In any case there were more important matters at hand. Like, how he was going to pet the sheep before Siobhan. Ha! Watch this Sio. He went over to test the bounciness of a sheep’s wool for a bit before they were ready to set off again.

"You say that now." she said with a laugh as she dismounted her little pony who was such a good boy. Yes he was. Or she? Wasn't really sure to be totally honest. Well it was sheep time. SHEEP TIME. They were so close she could almost taste the fluff in her hands. Who cares if that doesn't make sense? Not this girl!
"And if my plan is to beat the wolf off with your body??? That does sound like a good plan." She watched as he got closer to the sheep. He was going to pet them. He was going to pet the fluffy little minions that they had been sworn to protect. HOW DARE HE! No wait. She didn't care. She actually didn't care.
"If I really need to I'll use some strengthening magic on you so you don't die. It'll make your punches less wet noodle and more like a soft pillow. Still weak and like a little boy but better." To be fair he'd notice the difference if she did given their vast difference in rank and general magical power at this point. She of course always thought of herself as stronger than a lot of her family but this happened to be fairly true in this case.
She'd save her petting of the sheep for later. She wanted to pet their fluffy wool when they were tired and ready to sleep. Maybe it would give them soft dreams and then wouldn't fight back. She secretly kinda hoped they'd bite her cousin for trying to pet them. Secretly. Very secret.

He didn’t like that his cousin was insinuating he’d be the first to get dragged off by wolves. Then again, she could probably tell how weak he was. Orwell, she already thought he was a big weakling, so it’d make sense he still was on missions. He pouted, annoyed that she was right, but it wasn’t like he could improve over night. Everyone started at this level! Whatever else weak people said when they were cornered about their weakness.
“That’s a terrible plan! Why can’t you just use your fists. Or like, a stick. Some rocks? Pretty much anything besides me??” he asked, appalled she’d even consider that. Then again, this was Siobhan. Of course, she would. He didn’t like the thought though. It felt ominous. Now that it was out there, she would try to make it happen. Damnit.
“I can punch! Not through rocks like you but I can still break someone’s nose if I hit ‘em just right.” The young man protested. She was just tramping all over his ego today. He’d thought the sheep would appease her. He was wrong. He turned back to the sheep spotting a couple of babies wandering after their mom. They were laying down pretty calmly and the mom looked like she was baaing for attention. “Hello, Mom sheep., nice to meet you.” He said carefully as he reached to pet her side. She baaed at him but it didn’t sound aggressive. Nothing felt aggressive to him, until she turned towards him and bit him on the wrist. She clamped down until he pulled away with a yelp. “Jeez, mom!” he hissed as he wiped off sheep spit from his limb. That could’ve gone better.

She will not laugh. She will not laugh. SHE WILL NOT LAUGH. HE JUST GOT BIT BY A F@#$ING SHEEP HOW FUNNY IS THAT. She started breathing heavy to contain the laugh. Tears started welling up in her eyes. She could contain this she was so strong. She contained it for now. She'd totally use this against him later though. She'd make sure to let it slip in front of her brother... their aunt... and whoever else was in earshot. So like... everyone she knew.
"I never said it was a good plan but it's a plan none the less." She was right. This was technically a plan. Not a great plan since it would probably very much injure him and probably wouldn't do that much damage to the wolves. He wasn't particularly sharp or anything and a branch would probably do about as much blunt force damage without breaking.
The sheep seem appeased by the tree. Their ritual of the tree must be nearing completion since the group seemed to be growing restless and the horses seemed to be nearing ready to go. Maybe it was time to go to the next stop? They did have a lot of path left to cover. Oh well.
"Well those rocks shouldn't be in my way." It was true that she was physically one of the stronger people around town thanks to her own training, innate physical strength and specialization in strengthening magic all combining into the perfect hand to hand witch. It was just something she always knew she wanted to do and how she liked to fight. Boy did she like to fight. Corvus could tell you that growing up. So could any of the other boys she grew up in the circus with.

He continued wiping his hand on his clothes, half because that’d felt gross and half to hide is from Siobhan. She wasn’t laughing at him. Yet. But she’d seen it right? He looked over at her as she began to, what he could only imagine, was hyperventilate. “You asthmatic now or what?” he asked, half concerned, half convinced this would lead to another dig at himself. He put some distance between himself ang the touchy mother sheep and her little baabies. “It’s a sucky plan that I think we can discard.” He returned. A sheep better be about to die before he allowed himself to be no more than a noodley club.
He moved back towards Pablo who had already gotten up and was waiting for his rider. He gave the horse a pat before hopping on once more. That was now two animals that had nipped at him in some way. Pablo his hair…and that sheep mom his wrist. Ugh. “It might be a lot less effort to just, you know, go around the rocks? You don’t need to break all of them.” At that point it as less to get rocks out of the way and more to just show off. Strong or not, he didn’t appreciate it being rubbed in his face all the time. It wasn’t like it was motivation to get better. He didn’t particularly like augmentation magic anyway.
Corvus muttered to himself as he double checked the next stop, not quite having the route memorized. “Alright a huge riverbank clearing or whatever.” Pablo began to take lead once more, moving around the mass of sheep and leading towards another exit to continue on their day time grazing trip. It was pretty wooded, but not incredibly dark yet. Sunlight filtered through with ease. The path was wide, and well worn. He could count on his horse to keep going while he surveyed the shrubs right next to the path. He wondered if a wolf really popped out of the underbrush would it be able to snatch a sheep that easily. You would think the wool would make them choke or something. Like a small bouncy shield. Oh well. “I think I saw a fox.” He called out not really catching anything out of the ordinary.

"Nope." Her tone was cutting. Her eyes like the steel she'd bend around his torso as a child to trap him. Or was that just a dream she had? She couldn't remember. She reveled in the thrill of battle... found comfort and solace in knowing she could use her power to fight. She wanted to be powerful. She wanted to be strong.
"You can't always go around things. You need to be strong to survive. You know that as well as I do." It was drilled into her head as a child. It was drilled into all their heads. Strength maybe didn't trump all but it was needed to protect the family. To be strong was to be a wall for the benefit of the family. She took this to heart probably more than anyone else in the circus. She was to be strong. She was to be a wall.
She'd get up on her horse as they started to make their way along to the next destination. The sunlight lit through the magic of the forest. It was still light out so there was little movement of the problem creatures. They riverbank wouldn't be much of an issue since it was a large open area. It was easy to see an attacker coming. The forest was the most dangerous when it became darker. There was small movement in the underbrush. It was barely noticeable but it was there. Something may be following them.
She kept her eyes on the sheep in front of her. The small marsupial on the back of her horse took point. Sheila sat with her back to the young witch and watched behind them. She was trying her best to be vigilant from the rear of the rear but nothing was there. There wasn't anyone following directly behind them at least. Maybe through the forest.

Corvus tries not to roll his eyes at Siobhan. She was right and all, but it was annoying to have to admit it so he didn’t bother. No matter what he said she’d be right anyway. She was strong, and he liked to think he was too in his own ways. Ha! he would hear in his mind as Phillippe took a grand old laugh at him. They both knew that was a stretch. He’d never been particularly good at any strength related activity. Lifting things? No thanks. His talents had been more flexibility oriented. That was ok. “You can survive just a much on other things too.” He muttered mostly to himself, huffing at his own lack of strength and his cousin’s tiny lecture.
The walk was quiet, and he wondered if this was on purpose. Like, lure them into a false sense of security and then CUT through He wondered if Phillippe would be more harmful than helpful in this situation. After all, he was pretty big. Could he see through the trees and the underbrush? Probably not. Given his size he might just scare off all of their sheep and then what. They’d have to track all of them down before something devoured them. With this many he doubted they would last long if they wandered too far away.
The bushes rustled and a sheep baad loudly setting Corvus in high alert. The sheep seemed to be getting upset and it’s emotions were contagious to the rest of the flock. Corvus turned towards the source in the bushes and Pablo veered off as well. The sheep in the front continued, still not yet infected with the irritation of their fellow sheep. Corvus watched one of the sheep closest to the rustling yelp as it got tugged towards the bush before dragging itself back onto the path. Pablo neighed loudly stomping on the ground and sprinting slightly as if he knew what it was. As hooves smacked dirt and the sheep baad indignantly, out of the bushes scurried out a brown fox before it skittered deeper into the underbrush after what Corvus assumed was Pablo’s equivalent of a ‘Go on, git ya mangey varmit!’ from his horse.
“You ok Mr. Sheep?” he asked allowed, bending down to look at the sheep that had been almost yanked off the path and into the jaws of death. It seemed to limp forward before following the rest of the woolly mass forward, undeterred. You know, until a couple of other foxes tried to yank back another sheep on the opposite side. “Crap!” Corvus yelped as he looked around for the only thing he could come up with: a large stick.

"I want to be powerful." She said this off handedly. It was something she really wanted and desired. It was just a simple little thing that came out of her mouth. She wanted to be strong. She wanted to be feared. She wanted to be powerful. Power was the only way to be safe and keep everyone safe.
The next small leg was fairly quiet. It was kind of nice to not have to really do much besides watch around. The sheep pretty much kept to their line and so far Corvus didn't get them lost. I mean it was kind of hard to do that on a well traveled path the horses knew quite well... but he'd find a way she was sure of it. Okay maybe that's being a little harsh but still.
It started off small. A tiny fox like creature trying to grab a sheep from the underbrush quickly. Then it came again after it failed. Then again with more than one fox creature. Okay now she was getting annoyed. Stupid fox things. "Well this is annoying..." The young girl pushed her palm onto her horses back in order to quickly swing her leg over the creature so she could easily dismount with her familiar still on the thing. She did this all in one fluid motion as she poured mana into her body thanks to AUGMENTATION FOR DUMMIES #1 to increase her natural strength quite a bit.
She bolted at the stupid fox thing using her enhanced strength to essentially jump the distance before slamming her fist at the fox creature trying to attack one of the nearby sheep. Stupid fox thing. She was only using a single enhancement spell at least so maybe it wouldn't kill the thing. Maybe? She wasn't exactly sure. Her familiar happily continued riding on the back of her horse without a care in the world.

Pablo is busy stamping his feet on the ground, agitated at the fox’s presence and probably trying to rush the congregation of sheep forward into the clearing where it was probably safer than being stalked by foxes. Corvus clung to the reigns glancing at Siobhan, but she had already taken charge. He didn’t know when, but his cousin had already hoped off the horse. Unfortunately, he had turned just in time to watch the younger girl land from her leap at the fox and smash its head in, literally. Bits of blood seemed to spray outwards from impact, it was just a regular ole fox after all, and he heard a distinctive crack.
Corvus gagged, pulling tight on the reigns for Pablo to steady the horse who was still trying to whip the sheep into a hurried frenzy to escape any more attempted jaw snatchings. The sheep rushed towards the river and seemed to settle in the middle of the clearing all looking out cautiously from the center. The remaining foxes, however many of them were still there after the initial squishing of their brethren whimpered and ran off not wanting to have their brains ooze out of their eye sockets either.
Gross. Pablo paced back and forth quickly a few times before leading his rider into the clearing and circling the sheep who had been upset by the commotion. Corvus slowed Pablo to a stop who kept circling the flock at his own pace and went to usher the rest of the sheep in and meet up with Siobhan again. “Hey, you’re gross, but ok right?” he asked making a face, grateful he hadn’t been that close to see the fox.
