this is Salem, a land filled with magic and maladies. It is a place where witches and their elemental familiars gather, a home to legend and
lore that predates time itself. Yet of all the wicked and wonderful stories the past can tell us of, the most magical are the ones yet to happen.
This is Salem - this is the start of your very own journey. Welcome to starfall
Starfall is an animaga witch roleplay set in mostly modern times. Members play as witches in a world plagued by monsters, where the only safe spots are walled cities. Starfall strives to be a character-driven roleplay with expansive lore and a highly interactive plotline. We want to allow members to
create and look back on a magical journey, and mold the site and its plot as their characters grow.

He managed to move quickly and unnoticed, avoiding fire from other teams for the most part and swapping an occasional nod or a wave with other solo purple players. They’d at least been nice enough to give him paint refills or at least tell him where to get more nearby. He leaves the tumultuous red and green behind and managed to avoid tripping on the occasional yellow mouse. Phillipe at one point or another swoops in and grasps the little bugger before roughly tossing them against a wall, much to Corvus dismay. “They were the enemy” he stated as Corvus let out a small whimper. He hadn’t even got a look up close. “But…they were cute….” [break][break]
He doesn’t hear Phillipe’s irritated response as the message form his cousin seeps through, distracting him from other stimuli. It’s fuzzy and it tickles somewhere inside he skull that he can’t quite scratch well. He still manages to turn just in time, stumbling into a mostly clean alleyway. “Uhhh??” There’s not really any instruction if he can speak or even reply but he felt happy and excited that Madds had at least turned him to the right direction. It felt strange but he nevertheless tried to send a message anyway before moving forth to roll a paintbrush on the walls, stolen from one of the mice bots Philippe had brutally murdered. The paint shifting from a leftover muddy yellow to a vibrant purple. [break][break]

He continued outward rushing by the occasional witch or two. Despite being more than happy to go about simply painting around, Philippe continued to urge him to be a little more aggressive when it came to. “The least you could do is try, you have no other techniques that are helpful in this situation.” The bird hissed flapping his wings idly as he more or less glided from one lamp post to another. “F-Fine! But if I can’t and she finds out we’ll both be feeling it.” He hissed stopping at a refill point. He gestured idly at one of their larger containers. Focusing on the mostly clear sky, he tried to ask for help form the bear. He thought he vaguely saw the constellation appear and he felt a little bit energized. With a grunt he hefted a paint drum full of paint before proceeding to run off to find a larger area to splash it around. Quickly, while his concentration with the new spell lasted.

[attr="class","pipostpost"]The Hail of Spikes hover over the vicinity of the circle, ready to rain down on Aiden at no given time. Claire's not about to antagonize her comrade, though Aiden doesn't seem to reciprocate her feelings. He switches with his familiar. Claire cranes her head up to see him perched on the roof with visible distress on his face. Maintaining the magic seems to take a toll on him. It would've been so much easier if he just dispel the magic and they go on their separate ways.[break][break]
But no, he doesn't, and that's when Claire is reminded that the man is a hard-headed one. "Syke," he says, and gulps down a vial of who knows what. Claire feels the once waning spell strengthen. Ah, must've been a mana replenishing one. [break][break]
"Aiden, you know this isn't necessary," Claire says dryly. Claire foresees that he also had a paint bomb on hand. When Aiden proceeds to throw the bomb, Claire does a light pirouette and throws her own paint bomb away, somewhere landing on the roofs and painting them red. She keeps a check on her physical strength, and right, nothing has changed.[break][break]
"If I were you I would cut it out. You're losing as much time as I am, and look at that, you're also exhausting your mana. Who's the loser here?"[break][break]
Claire isn't so sure she can wait any longer. So she proceeds to back away until she's out of the range. "Aight, Imma head out," she says with dry humor, and then with a light nod, she looks at the stryx perched atop a balcony. "Yeah, Caramel, you can pour that paint bucket on him now." And so Caramel, unnoticed with the silence of her wings, turns the bucket upside down. She's several meters above Aiden, not exactly on a point that would make her hit Aiden bullseye, and she squawks as she pours the paint.[break][break]
[attr="class","gearcore"] "Sounds like a plan t' me," Zeph says as he activates another gate hanging from the opposite side of the airship, letting more sunflower yellow pour over the city, "I'll keep a couple gates in reserve for when we get there."
Sprocket climbs midway across one of the airship's wings, stretching out her arms and letting the wind rush through her fur as Ox ups their speed. Her finger-like toes cling tightly to the wing's main support to keep from falling, though it posed little risk to her, being able to vanish from the physical plane at will. Meanwhile, Zephyr scans the streets below, searching for pails and drums that look like they're filled with yellow paint. When he does, his hand flicks upward, and the metal containers fly skywards, splattering the nearby walls with their contents.
"We will be arriving shortly," Ox announces a he allows the airship's speed to slow, "I believe this is the district which contains the Ventarium building."
Zeph's head perks up at that statement, then starts glancing around to get a better idea of where they actually were. "Oh! Yeh, that's it over there. Good observation, Ox," he says, offering a thumbs-up to the automaton. The tin man seemed to respond well to positive feedback, so Zephyr had started to make an effort to point out things he did well. "Did ya hear that place lost a sky narwhal some months back? Still haven't found it-- 'least, I haven't heard a thing about it since then," he mentions as he grabs the ladder and tosses it over the side.
The half man half Zephyrs experiment used wind magic to swoop down from the roof down to him. Explore he said. That sounded like something that had nothing to do with this paint contest. Nothing at all.
Serenity hummed at the idea and jumped off her master towards maddox rothscus ✨ when he spoke to them. “You wish for the young masters assistance in exploring? May we assume this is not in regards to this contest?” The raccoon was rather eloquent for... you know a raccoon. As they were on different teams for sure on this she assumed this had to due with their shared connection of another... ‘club’ per say.
The young man chucks the paint can away from himself, paint splashing along the street they were in. ”What are we exploring?” Mickey said with a wicked smile. He hoped it was something fun... or at least something useful to the coven. Maybe help map the city? Find some object or something to help the coven. Maybe a lot of other things it could be.
If they searched the city maybe even if it didn’t help the coven to much he could find something Lady Fane would like. Something that would please her once she got out of jail. She would get out of jail of course. There was no doubt someone as beautiful and strong as her would or could do so anytime she wanted. How much was fact and idol worship was anyone’s guess. You never know with someone like her.
The raccoon sighs as it seems that it was decided anyway. Well whatever... she’d go along with his whim for now... after all this young man was quite powerful from what she could recall. It was safer to have the young master travel with him than alone.
[attr="class","pipostpost"]Claire's getting tired of this stand and wait situation when she sees no reason behind it. She didn't plan on attacking Aiden. She didn't want to stand here unable to use her magic power. Just what is Aiden thinking? Ultimately, it will be him that would get the short end of the stick. The red team might not win, but Claire is pretty sure Aiden will drop limp after this whole fiasco. [break][break]
She feels really irritated with this guy, at the same time realizes her own powerlessness at this kind of situation. Claire sighs. She continues walking out of the circle until she's free from the entrapment. Vani trudges ahead and does his best to spew paint all over, tho that isn't the most effective of the techniques. He shrugs off the paint buckets and slices them with a quick flick of smooth ice. The buckets would topple and spill paint all over.[break][break]
If Aiden chooses to stop her--and don't he even dare, my goodness--well, Claire wouldn't do anything, really. It's so much easier to just let the spikes rain down on him--good luck dodging that and maintaining focus--but for the sake of comradeship, she wouldn't. So she just walks away.[break][break]
Claire really hates this feeling of powerlessness, and so she decides, at this instant: ah, she should learn purification. [break][break]

He seemed to shrug at Claire, kicking his legs on brick. Though if she didn’t get it at this point, he doubted explaining it to her would help. “Dunno. I’ve used my time pretty wisely. Have you?” He can’t help but call out. It's frustrating, and he doesn't have the patience for it, but this is all he had left. Sometimes you just need to wait things out. Aiden isn’t intent on following her. Not when he felt the last bit of energy around his flicker, and then fade. As Claire speaks again, but this time not to him he has just enough time to look up at the small strix before paint fell. It’s surprising, and cold, but he simply shakes his head like a dog. His clothes appear slick with paint before it starts to slip onto the brick and down the wall, magical threads refusing to stain with red. He wished he could say the same for his face though. There’s the soft sound of him spitting off the roof before he wiped his face with his sleeves, streaking the paint. [break][break]
McKenna sits in wait, unaffected as she was far more observant than he was, and this wasn’t dangerous anyway. “A warning would’ve been nice.” He jabbed at his familiar as he stood up, wobbly at first but managing to keep his step. The antelope let out a small chuckle before replaying with, “I didn’t want to interrupt.” Aiden didn’t reply, already lost in thought again. He’s nervous, hoping any time stalled had gotten his team a lead at least. Hopefully they could keep it. Either way, he’d done his part and done his best. Sure, if they didn’t win Marjorie would be angry he hadn’t kept to the knight’s team, but covered in sweat and in serious need to find a paper towel, he didn’t care in the slightest. He shoved his hand in his bag of holding trying to call up a bottle of water, even if it was half empty as McKenna moved back down to the ground. He took a deep breath, clutching his water bottle tightly before snapping through a switch.
Aiden managed, though he didn’t stay standing. The boy found himself laying on his back on paint slick ground, panting for a moment before his familiar nudged him. “Kay, let’s go find a break area. I can't do another one of those for another day.” He heard Majorie voice in his head ask Why not just a few hours Aiden? and he scowled while letting out a yawn. There had to be a neutral zone somewhere, or at the very least a witch offering water refills. He sat up, digging into his bag once more before yanking out a longboard and letting it clatter onto the street. McKenna did him the favor of stopping it so he could get on. Unceremoniously, he lay down on it, pumping his super soaker while McKenna began pushing him into a cleaner area. Meanwhile Aiden haphazardly began letting out stray shots of green as they went. Scribbled black leaves that dotted his hands began to glow and fade as his body began absorbed the bit of mana left in the ink painted on his skin.

Purple splatters on his clothes and walls, and as best as he can Corvus took off running down the street with Philippe shrieking and taking to the air to help his scared off any witches aiming to trip up his own. Corvus grit his teeth slowing down to pull up the weird map his cousin had put in the network. It’s still awkward and he felt like he had somehow opened it up and closed it at least four times before finally getting a good glimpse and moving towards area with little or no paint at all. After a few minutes he could feels the drum lighten, which was great because the power in his spell was fading. He was starting to feel a bit more strain on his arms. [break][break]
“Philippe I need a minute! 😫” he yelled at the bird that was currently streaking the sky with flames as a warning to other witches to back off his one squishy boy. Corvus stopped tossing the last few drops of paint onto the ground, though it landed on his shoe instead. He carefully set the drum near a wall to keep it out of the way before taking looking around to take a seat. Very little was left untainted. In fact, he had thought he’d been wandering into a clearer zone. Quite the opposite thought. He heard the laughter and shrieks of witches rushing towards him and Philippe is gone, materialized into the astral unwilling to get paint on himself. In comes flying one color not his own, then two then three. It’s an all-out war and Corvus sis panicked and scared, having simply wanted a moment of peace. [break][break]
“Time- time out! 😱😱😱” he called out holding up his hands as witches with messy face paint barreled towards him with all sorts of tools of mass paintstruction. His familiar hisses in his head to defend himself and Corvus once again panicked, locks eyes with one witch then another and then another shouting orders to stop while his fingers twitched and mana innately moves, invisibly swirling and locking onto his targets. In moments one after another fell unsure how to tell which was up or down, world spinning. Corvus didn’t stick around. He pulled for a memory of the map before picking a spot and rushing out in that direction to find somewhere clean to take a short rest in. "Sorry!! 😭"
[attr="class","junescroll"] there's a little blip in the shared interface, and he pauses briefly in his approach to consider corvus' response. that's one heart — and another, and yet another. distractedly, he thinks back a response ( c: ) as the ink on the map settles into a coherent shape.[break][break]
( gonna be distracted for a while. give a shout if you need a hand and i'll try to send moosely. )[break][break]
he eyes the raccoon that approaches. wishes, momentarily, that his own familiar bothered with such eloquence. he can feel the moose still stampeding about the place, absolutely delighted by the government-sanctioned chaos. moosely, blissfully still unaware of this exchange, can be heard clattering about nearby rooftops, steps only occasionally interspersed with the sound of wings and the splatter of paint.[break][break]
"yup," he confirms with the raccoon, "thought it might be worth making use of the, uh, more relaxed rules." [break][break]
maddox steps closer, offering mickey a view of the map as well. there is a smile to match, sharp and bright. here, the ink converges, and runs like rivulets across the paper — stretches like veins along the skin of some great beast. "oh, that's interesting."[break][break]
but his attention is focused on a spot nearest to them, a dull hum in his vision. a magical wall? he motions to the younger witch, and there's a sharpness to his voice now, drawn taut with tension or excitement, it's difficult to tell. "found something. reckon it's an illusion of sorts."[break][break]
he raises a palm, and slowly, carefully, begins to tug away at the mana that surrounds it. not breaking it, per se, simply redirecting it sideways. the wall smoothly gives way to an entrance, lit only by the sunlight that filters dimly in. there's a pause. then a huff, light with disbelief. "shit- don't know what i was expecting," he murmurs, stepping forward before casting a quick glance over his shoulder. there's something that smells odd about the place, but he can't quite place what. "coming?"[break][break]
The man looks at some map that looks vaguely magical in origin. A MAJEEK ITEMU (super anime voice) that glows and looks to have some kind of lines. He can’t really see from where he is to be honest.
The raccoon and witch watch as he talks to the air... or maybe some kind of communication device? Or something like that. Anyway he talks to that and then says something about a magical wall. Illusions always hide something. He would know.
The wall slowly gives way to an entrance with the power of maddox rothscus ✨ magical power. It is lit only by the sunlight that filters dimly into the structure. The older witch makes to go in asking the boy if he’s going to follow. ”Yeah yeah coming.”
The air smelled thick of something. It felt familiar. The place was hard to see in... very dark. The smell reminded him of his childhood. What was that smell? He knew it but couldn’t put his finger quite on it.
The raccoon of course could smell it quite well... her sense of smell much sharper than the two witches. “Be careful... it smells like blood here...” the raccoon familiar said her fur visible on edge and sharper than normal... alertness at full visibility. That made sense it would smell familiar though. Like childhood.
As the sun sets and the day's paint war comes to a close, there is some time of relative silence as a team of athenian witches scour the city for an accurate percentage of each paint color. There are some arguments, and a need to double check some areas due to it being such a close call, but eventually they arrive at a consensus. As the painters wait for the final verdict, they relay stories of they day's antics, and smear paint on their friends who somehow managed to avoid the worst of the chaos. [break][break] And then, finally, the winner is revealed by the first whistling fireworks of the night, which burst through the sky in radiant shades of green.

an aside...
The purple-painted secret entrance which maddox rothscus ✨ and Mickey Hassan enter, at first, appears to be little more than a long-abandoned store. Only the illusion-covered entrance and the fact that the floor does not share the same film of dust as the counters and shelves indicate there is more going on here than meets the eye. [break][break] Perhaps the duo look into the storage room and find the opened cellar door and a large carpet flung to the side, or perhaps they look elsewhere first. Regardless, they are close enough to hear the sudden shouts of a woman who has lost all composure echoing from the cellar below. "Why won't you talk? Just tell me where they kept you! Give me something to work with! Agh, you're absolutely useless!" The sound of a metal clang follows the frustrated questions, further followed by silence. [break][break] It matters little if the duo decides to follow the sounds or hide, because, one way or another, the young woman will cross their path. She has brown hair tied back in a practical manner, and would appear fairly unremarkable if it wasn't for the dark red liquid (which you're fairly sure isn't as innocent as paint) drenching both of her arms. Her furious gaze snaps towards the Leviathan pair, and not a moment later they'd find their active spells and ability to cast magic blocked completely. Her hands are already midway through the process of embedding a pair of throwing knives between their eyes before halting mid-throw, eyes narrowed at Maddox. [break][break] "Oh... you're from that other cult, aren't you?" [break][break] She examines him a moment before deciding to lower her weapons and offering them a cheery smile, which felt entirely out of place given the circumstances. "Well I'm afraid you've already missed all of the fun, but I'm feeling generous today so you can still take the credit if you'd like! Straight down the cellar hallway, second room on the right. You can't miss it! Have fun being heroes or something." She offers them a wink, and vanishes in a puff of colored smoke. When she does, their ability to use magic is returned, though there's no magical trace of what just occurred. [break][break] In the room which she mentioned, if the two were bold enough to look inside, there is a body laying in a pool of blood. It was... probably human, though at this point maimed well beyond any hope of recognition. Additionally, there are two children no older than the age of 12 sitting in a cage. Though the door is open, they do not leave. They merely continue to sit, staring off into a middle distance, alive, but unresponsive...
